NOTE 1: The International Ancient Mew is the only version with 'Wizards' in the copyright. NOTE 2: The language on Ancient Mew isn't "Made up". Its actually Futhark Runic and Gothenburg Runic.
Whats funny how one of text describing Mew as an evil god. some peoole theorizes that mew is the primordial chaos based on hundin from chinese myth. It fits perfectly for the ancestet to pokemon
The rarest version and most valued is the CORRECTED version. I have talked to people who've paid for or were selling misprints for a lot of money and they had no idea the CORRECTED version even existed. So the CORRECTED version sells high which causes people who don't know the difference to accidentally buy misprints for way more than what they're actually worth.
Yes absolutely. That being said, the error copy tends to steal the spotlight, that’s what most people want. I wish I worded it differently in the video. My writing needs a lot of work!
@@MrCody6925 you know that from the kind of foil, the absense of 'nintedo' and the copyright date. The combination of the three uniquely identifies that one
As a kid I took very good care of my cards. I always kept the rare cards in sleeves, and even kept my ancient mew completely sealed. If I recall, I think even as a 10 year old, I was thinking about the future and how valuable my cards could be. Glad I did! I still have all my cards today. Including shining Charizard, shining Celebi, shining Magikarp, and so on. So proud of my collection. And it keeps growing to this day!
When I was a kid my sister and I participated in a Pokemon TCG competition at a toy store called Zany Brainy. The grand prize was a 3-foot long wooden chest filled with Ancient Mew cards. My sister, somehow, made it to the final round but lost. To imagine what it would be like if she had won that prize.....
One other pretty noticeable difference between the original Japanese versions and international are the borders - the Japanese version has nice tight borders with no gap in the edge graphics, whereas the international version has a fairly noticeable gap. I have a corrected version, beautiful card 😄
There is also the Meiji Movie Promo Ancient Mew, which is the only other time Ancient Mew was printed on a card. The international versions sometimes show up sealed with different language cover cards which increase their value. You can also occasionally find bootleg versions of this card that are pretty bad, but some people (like me) will still pay good money for them.
There are literally hundreds of versions of this card to chase. These six are just the start, you could have any of them graded 1-10, meaning there are 60 possible cards per grading company. You have printing errors and miscuts, cosmic swirl patterns that make unique cards and sealed packages from a dozen different countries. There are autographed ones out there, as well as bootlegs that somehow hold value for being fake. The Meiji Movie Promo version has its own variety to chase, and there are also custom fan art cards in this style that are worth looking into.
This card played a crucial part in my childhood…when my oldest brother was getting out of Pokémon and was throwing away all of his cards. I asked for his mew and he ripped it in front of me and laughed…that night a villain was born 😂
Going to have to check mine later. I lost my childhood one but I bought a graded copy a couple years ago. In my mind the one I had as a kid was the lighter japanese glitter foil version but obviously thats probably not true. Such a cool video.
People imported the original error card from Japan thinking it was going to be the most expensive card ever. When it was released later in the US the price tanked hard and this card showed up cheap in thrift stores and card shops around the states. You may have had the glitter foil if you didn't stand in line for it at the movies.
I consider the meji promo ancient mew to be a version as well. Its different but as a big ancient mew collector i wouldn't say collection is completed without that one. Then there is also the topps its not over yet regular, foil and rainbow wich show the ancient mew card in them. I also think there must be a film card of that scene from the movie but never seen one and might never. Then there are variants like the missing white layer print. And if you talk about sealed variants thats a whole other part.
@@sleevenocardbehind btw, do you collect bgs slabs? The slab size and dimensions are the same, but if you examine the fonts, clarity, see-throughness, etc…you’ll find 2 different kinds of slabs bgs uses, unless the other one is fake. The ancient mew II from back in the day is also a sticker and not an actual real card. I had 3 when I was a kid and experimented on one after we saw the movie and yea it’s a sticker
Why are there > 1700 PSA 10 graded Ancient Mew II Japanese version, but only 3 BGS 10 all graded before 2003? Looks like BGS did not grade such cards afterwards, is that possible?
Video starts off incorrect- the most desirable and rare japanese version is "ancient mew 1 corrected". Not the error that says "nintedo" those were actually more common.
It appears that I have the International US version still wrapped in the original wrapper. Should I open the wrapper and send it to be graded or keep it in the original wrapper? Is there any value to the companion card?
Ultimately it’s up to you but if it looks good I would send it in with your next submission. Personally I like to keep the companion card but they don’t carry any value
I can’t speak to the specific listings you’re looking at but since Ancient Mew is a promo, they got delivered to the cinemas in huge quantities. I’ve seen many posts online of people who have boxes of Ancient Mews that were never handed out back in the day
First movie promos were Mewtwo, Pikachu, Electabuzz, and Dragonite. Ancient Mew was for the second movie, to the point the villain of the movie has a copy of the card and cites it as the reason he started hunting the legendaries.
tfw yes i knew about all of these loool funfact this card is actually banned in actual play because of how its made another funfact is if you really want one there not really expencive ;3

Ancient Mew Two, not to be confused with Ancient Mewtwo

Sounds like the Zelda 1 carts in grey being a lot more rare than the gold versions 👍
How do you know what one is the CORRECTED version? 😂

4:12 love this! Screenshotted.
Now I just gotta get my hands on a black label and my life would be complete.
I might be able to help with that
Nintedo error is highly sought after, but the corrected Mew is far more rare as the print run was smaller.
I had no idea and I have been collecting forever! Niceeeeee

I like the Ancient Mew (II).
I’m really not a fan of the glitter foil so I’m so happy they had another version.

was there a sticker variant? i swear as a kid i remember seeing others at school peeling the front of the ancient mew off
No official stickers but I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some bootleg sticker versions out there

My brother sold his entire pokemon card collection for $12 when we were kids just so that I wouldn't end up with this card.

I thought that the "Nintedo" cars was given for Mewtwo strikes back, but it was only for the Lugia movie. "Mew II" is just the corrected version

They are worth about $2 each in near mint rn which is not bad for a filler card. You can also find them in other languages, and they can be pricey.
Is it me or the erro version is more rainbow colors, the corrected on more rainbow blueish and 2019 and 2020 more dark rainbow?
