I visit Stockport in Manchester. This town 10 years ago was grim, with no investment and boarded up shops...apparently Stockport has had lots of investment and new shops and pubs are popping up everywhere!
Join me as I do a pub crawl through Stockport to see if this Manchester town really is on the way back up!

The Banshee looked like a proper Irish Pub! Best one I've seen in the UK tbf. Live irish music, Murphys and Mr. Tayto's behind the bar. Those pours of wine the ladies had were massive😂

I saw Stockport County play last April. I never realised I was so close to the Pineapple. A good opportunity missed. It is what it is. The town centre was bangin' mind.
I've lived in Edgeley for a few years now, and the Pineapple is the one pub I've always avoided.
I imagined everyone staring at a stranger walking in and everything going quiet.
Like its a local pub for local people from the League Of Gentlemen. 😂

Bloody hell my old stomping ground. It has indeed come a long long way since the nineties. Loads of scraps in the White Lion back in the day and Yates wasn't much better.

I drank in the market 30 years ago. The original Bakers Vault was superb. In the days before round-the-clock drinking, we would go to the Bulls Head, and for a quid you could drink in the upstairs bar until 3 or 4 in the morning. The Three Shires was a right honeypot for "the classier" type of bird!

It looks miles better then it used to too when I worked there I spent many Friday nights after work with my mates at the garrett and the goerge witch I think is shut now good times!!!!

This is your best video yet. I think having some mates to banter off, and in the form of an evening crawl works better.
I lived in Edgeley for 10 years, but I never went drinking there. Used to drink in Stockport a lot though. The Crown under the viaduct is a great pub, I didnt even know it had an outside space, looked great. In Underbank we used to go to The Queens next to the stone steps. Had a famous "toilet for thin gentlemen", as well as a haunted room. At the top of the steps you had the Egerton Arms which had a good duke box, and loads of goths. The market place was where the real action was. The Bakers vaults was our main pub there, Yates's if you wanted a fight!

@@honestplaces I like the craft beer and real ales. In Manchester i'd check out the local brews like Cloudwater, Seven Brothers, Lees and Holts etc. Also best clubs there and the Manchester women ( although they'd probably end up giving me a heart attack).

@@michaelroberts7374 I'm going on Ratebeer. In spite of its being owned by ABinbev or partly so, it's still a good guide to beer and places to drink.. Wherever I go I'll check out its recommendations. Once you're in a top gaff recommend in Ratebeer you'll find people clued up on the clubs, free parties etc. The good pub and club demographic overlaps considerably.

Stockport is Cheshire as it is south of the river Mersey. North is Lancashire. Greater Manchester is a metropolitan borough that has nothing to do with the actual ceremonial counties.
Same in the north east. Anything south of Tyne was County Durham anything north was Northumberland.

Bask is my favourite haunt in stocky, it is a bit pricey but a few good times in there, Clint boon has done a few gigs there as well, I must check that Irish bar out as well, looks bangin! 🤣🤣🤣
The Nelson used to have a high wall round the back where all sorts of shady deals were done away from prying eyes. It got knocked down the late 90s to stop that from happening. I went to art college across the road and all my tutors would drink in there.

Yeah, I studied design at Stockport College, and we were in The Nellie all the time. It was heaving with students.
Stockport was for Robinsons beer, especially Old Tom dark barley wine 7% ABV which was on handpump in their pub called The Three Legs of Man in Salford. No carpet, used to hose the p1ss off the floor and out of the door after chuck-out. Youngsters know nothing about real rough pubs as were! BTW, I remember the Pineapple as a Wilsons pub, OK beer from Newton Heath.

I've been to a couple of pubs along the main drag in Edgeley years ago when we played at Stockport. One was called the Robert Peel.
Many years ago used a pub in Brum close to the football ground mainly on a Sunday..The owner at the time was an elderly Irish lady who owned a few pubs in Brum..Occasionally she'd put Irish mist.. A liquor in your Murphys ( on the house)...Was bang on..Hard to get either nowadays but was a lovely combo...!
