3 things to consider and test, 1: shoot without the can(harmonics), 2: shoot from a soft surface to decrease vibration(bag or matt) 3: shoot at longer distance(boat tail projectiles release gas pre maturely and can wobble the projectile but correct eventually like a arrow) or possibly a simple break in period Love your vids, hollering from Australia

One thing I would try, given that there basically is only the precision Hunter. Seat them a bit deeper and try again

  • @buckhunt917

I have the same exact gun, and let me tell you, I broke mine in with 40 rounds of the Precision Hunter. Shot 5, ran the bore snake through, shot 5. Did that for all 40. Pretty sure the last 15 went through the same 1” hole.
I started doing my handloads for it, and it tightened up drastically. I used two different powders and two different bullets. 24 additional rounds. No cleaning between shots. Every single group I shot that day was .75” or less. Just need to give it a good break in. That Precision hunter ammo isn’t super consistent.

  • @withinrangellc
    @withinrangellc ปีที่แล้ว +4

I always do a barrel break in before putting it on paper. It sucks but I run 20 rounds through it, cleaning between each round and letting it get stone cold before the next round. I have had great results from that method. Maybe try that. Just my 2 cents.

  • @Accuracy1st

Some barrels take quite a few rounds through them before they demonstrate what they can do. Case in point, my 7PRC (Hart barrel) had to eat 40 rounds before it performed. I was getting 2" groups with both Hornady ELD X and their Match ammo. After shooting a box of the match, then another 20-24 handloads which kept getting better, I took another box of Match ammo out to the range and got multiple 0.3" groups with it - same LOT number as the first box. Went back out the next weekend with the ELD-X ammo and shot two 1/2" groups. Simply turned out to be the barrel needing to be "seasoned" as they call it

I have a go-wild in 308. I took the stock off and re-torqued the action screws, and one of the screws was kind of loose. I would recommend using the plastic things the gun comes with to remove the mag release and re-torque the action screws. It may help.

Interesting. If you would have told me a Mossberg Patriot would outshoot a Ruger American, I would have said you are full of it. Comments referring to the can may be relevant but you used it on both. I have been considering a 7mm PRC and leaning towards the Ruger but this video does give me some pause. You may need to remove material from the stock. Check the bedding. A lot of things could be going on. It may just not like the pod. As halfmile would say. Load the pod.. Look forward to seeing things develop hopefully it becomes a shooter. Them first two shots looked like it was going that way. Im sure you will work it out.

Any day at the range is a good day. You have it on paper. Now you just have to find the right ammo, or combo on your rifle. The harmonics may be off with the can you have. May have to try it without the can, or a different length or weight of can. Plus there isn't a large selection of ammo for the 7mm prc yet. Still a great video. Keep up the good work and thank you for all you do.

Not having watched your other videos I’m not sure if this is your typical shooting style, but I have learned in several long ranch courses that getting your thumb over the stock on harder recoiling rifles can make quite a bit of difference in groupings. And I always use a rear bag for support when firing off of a bipod. Having 2 shots dead on each other makes me think it has the potential to be very accurate

    • @WHOTEEWHO

Maybe it will straighten out after more rounds are put through it and cleaned at least 40+ rounds Hornady is great ammo and they do supply the military; so it can't be all that bad and get rid of that cheep stock and go with a MDT chasse like the LSS gen 1 but you can also get it in gen 2. With the chase's they shoot much better; if y'all have noticed the military are using chase's on most all rifels

It's no surprise, it's all about proportion. When we talked about some rifle brand/model accurate or not, it just means the majority or some proportion. Even certain Hi-Point carbine could be very accurate.
Ruger American is entry level rifle, I would say, probably 60% sub moa, 30% 1-2 moa, 10% beyond 2 moa.
While for Mossberg Patriot, another entry level rifle, probably 40% sub moa, 30% 1-2 moa, 30% above 2 moa, sort of thing.
So it's just about batch accuracy, and that batch percentage.
So far TC Compass 2 should have the largest sub moa propotion, approximately 70-80%.

Take the bipid off and shoot from a rest. Forend is flimsy and can cause vertical stringing when shooting off a bipod.

Also I don’t trust those cans hanging off the barrel,if it get loose it will totally change the harmonics of the barrel?

My other 7mm prc, same can, loves the can

7mm PRC Hornady ammo has been having major velocity swings from round to round in the same box of ammo. Wish you would shoot some over the chronograph. Seen one guy post 150 FPS between 2 rounds. Some are finding a box of ammo showing pressure signs and pulling bullets and lowering the charge. The suppressor can also be affecting your accuracy

You need a taller table? How about setting some concrete blocks under the spool that you are using for a table? That would be inexpensive.

Don't forget to add the suppressor

Wow. My goodness, that is a big set of groups. Let's see it with different ammo.

Try some group testing with the muzzle break or just the thread protector.

Did you check barrel clearance on the stock? Ive had to shave down the the stock on all my americans to get fully floated and it helped.

Thanks for your video and information. Maybe try shooting with out your can. And see if they are any different.

It's disappointing that 175g ELDX won't group out of the 7mm PRC , but You know Yourself that some rifles preferer X type of ammo over Y type of ammo , so I hope you stick with it at least till You've given it a chance to redeem it's self . I'm sure there will be loads of viewers like Me who would enjoy watching You test different rounds down range . Just put it on a back burner till more varied ammo types become available . Thanks WTW , catch You next video . Shoot Straight Stay Safe & Stay Well.

I expected the thrid shot was going to do that because i thin barrel and a hot round will make itvwakk when it hot perfectly fine for hunting though

I was thinking the same thing? I shoot suppressed on my precision rifles with thicker barrels but would never consider doing that on a hunting rifle with a thinner barrel? Shooting suppressed causes the barrel to heat up much faster which will definitely affect accuracy! Like you said probably fine for hunting?

Magnum rifle, since its personally owned try glass bedding and double the amount of free float the barrel has (2 playing cards worth of space)

Did you shoot the rifle again? I find that the factory triggers just aren't the best and that is where these mass production rifles fault the most. I always change out the triggers when I purchase an off the shelf rifle. I had the same issue with my Browning X-Bolt Hell's Canyon. Upgraded to a Timney and now I have sub moa. I know you know this, but it's mostly for the viewers.

Could it be the barrel break-in problem? Does Ruger require barrel break-in process?

Did you try it without the can????? The gun has a thin barrel so the can may be causing issues
