    "All we need is 90 seconds of your life, Johnny."
    Those 90 seconds ended up getting all of the robbers killed, and Johnny quiting his agency job.
    90 seconds. That was all it took.

    point break is why movies are art. people say it's some dumb action movie but it's so much more than that. It's this beautiful friendship between two people on opposite sides of the law.

      And a character study too. You watch a straight laced federal agent go from thinking he knows himself to questioning all his ideals and all he stands for. In upholding the law, he also forged a unlikely friendship and a relationship (Bodhi and Tyler) and he realized there’s more to life..albeit at the cost of losing people from his life and also making changes

      Treblaine Well, nobody said anything about heists or capers, the guy simply said "2nd most influential (or coolest) bank robbery scene". Point is... Dog Day Afternoon, in my opinion, has more influential bank robbery scenes than Point Break.

    • @Treblaine

      ***** Well then you are talking about the influence on yourself.

    • @adizmal
      @adizmal 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Treblaine ...na... 6 Oscar nominations, won 'best screenplay'... Point Break on the other hand, had both Reeves *and* Swayze nominated for "most desirable male" at the MTV Movie Awards. Not that any of that matters, I'm just sayin man. Just sayin.
      Point Break is great, but it's not influential cinematography like Dog Day Afternoon is. It is quite influential in its own right, though, I would definitely give it that.
      So, Treblaine, in that regard I've been comparing their influence in film making, rather than anecdotal preference. Quite the opposite of your insinuation... anything else?

    Everyone is looking at the trees, not the forest. The important part of the scene is Bohdi stating you project strength to avoid conflict. He had more guys (5) than before, so he was projecting stronger. He knew if Johnny didn't join his gang he couldn't come back to California. So he needed more money. Hence going for the vault. Despite his "peace thru superior firepower" theory. He didn't count on the more time he burns the more likely the unpredictable nature of humans factor in.

    I loved Patrick Swayze in this movie I think its his best performance. He is one bad guy in this and both he and Keanu Reeves were spot on in Point Break. This scene Johnny is being taken to a bank robbery with his girlfriend Tyler being held hostage. The Ex Presidents were superb at robbing banks but this time on getting into the bank with Utah coming along too, Bodhi takes it too far. He breaks the rules his team set. They are unaware an armed police officer is present among the hostages in the bank. While the clock is ticking the officer decides to try to stop the robbery with a security guard and shoots Bodhi and Utah. This robbery has gone badly wrong and when the 2 men Bodhi has sent to the vault return one is shot too. Bodhi recovers and kills the Officer but cannot save his friend who is dead because of him. So the team escape with what they have but this robbery was a total disaster. Great scene!

      Well, he’s not a wanna be. He’s a cop. To be fair, he made a bad decision. The real hero was the security guard. He could’ve laid low and not got involved. He’s just a security guard and has no duty or obligation to die for money that is insured anyways. He got involved to help the cop out and maybe died because of it.
      The cop was out numbered, outgunned and surrounded. He was a great shot and put rounds on center mass and if those guys hadn’t been wearing vests, he would’ve prevailed.

    You are right that this situation is different. In a situation like a bank robbery, there is a very high likelihood that if you do just give the robbers everything they want they will not hurt anyone. According to FBI statistics, Bank robbery deaths are virtually nonexistent, and when they do happen it's usually the robbers who are killed.
    However, to criticize the one person who stood up and fought back is ridiculous.

    I don't criticize his intentions, but I criticize his judgement. As a police officer, he should have been fully aware that not only did no one stand to lose anything (anybody who's taken high school economics knows about the FDIC), but also that fact about bank robberies you mentioned. Add to the face that he and the security guard were outnumbered by about 3 to 1 by men with vastly superior firepower, the only reason for him to do what he did was so he could be the hero, and it got him killed.
