@@mxsebasmx01 I take back what I wrote, after a few days I reached a wall and it was impossible to play it faster and clearer than the technique you wrote about I started practicing it and it is suitable for this purpose, it is difficult and requires many hours, but it gives results
When I reached 80% of the original speed, I thought I wouldn't be able to go faster. Your advice regarding the picking pattern was crucial for me, it allowed me to play along with the song. Now it's just a matter of making everything sounding clean. Thanks a lot!
Ben, i have watched a lot of your videos, and i cannot begin to describe to you how much you've helped me with playing. And the fact that this video taught me a solo i never thought i would be able to pull off, in the period of about an hour, just proves it to me. I think it's safe to say that you are easily the best teacher around here on TH-cam. Your videos show all the technique and all the explanations in the best and most clear way. Everyone else just somehow make it confusing. Thank you so much for making these videos. Keep up the amazing work.
Oh my god, I thought those arpeggios had the same note length. Therefore, I could not fit 5 arpeggios into a 4 quarter rhythm. Thank you so much for explaining the timing.
Love the Suhr, incredible lesson. You got a talent for teaching. I loved how you were looking out the window whilst playing the arpeggio at the beginning, you made it look effortless.
@@BenEller Are you sure he doesn't hit an extra note on the second time he plays the arpegios? Start on the first arpegio like you do, 12th fret (b string), 10th (e string) 14th, pull off but the second time 12th (b string) 10th (e string) but 14th (picked) and 14th pull off to the 10th. Then like the first run of the mill. It makes it harder but I hear it this way and I sped the original track way down and I think he does play it. I don't hear anyobody mentioning it and it is a detail that makes it harder and throws you off a bit if you try to do it fast. But hey it's John Norum he is amazing. I think you can also see it on the live wacken 201X something version that is on youtube.
I think you may be the best guitar teacher on TH-cam. Seriously, I mean you can definitely play, but you also know the music theory and can explain it in simple terms. The slow downs, video angles, and tabs are so helpful. You have patience and a sense of fun that is infectious. Thank you for doing this!
fazeel ashraf yep. I'm really into these melodic solos, and some of them have techniques I havent thought about before, like the wait solo from last week :D uncle Ben roles
Do the Bark at the Moon solo! Another great video this week Uncle Ben, thank you for your hard work and dedication on these videos. You deserve way more subscribers!
Eight months later I stumbled upon this tutorial. My son loves this song (I love it, as well. I was in high school when it came out). I'm having fun learning it, and my son thinks I'm a god now. Thanks Uncle Ben!
Fantastic coverage and instruction! Would love to see some Vito Bratta solos for octave and legato tapping - ala Wait, Hungry, Little Fighter, Tell Me, or Radar Love.
I saw a different video on this solo before yours and they made it complicated, only a 9 minute video, with you telling us tips on the arpeggios and taking your time really helped, now I have it under my fingers and just need to work on speed! Thank you so much!
Thanks so much for this tutorial,we are doing this song shortly in my band and although I can shred , sweeping has eluded me ,I can do slow sweeps but not at speed ,this helped a lot 🤘
That rhythm always twisted my ear. Now, thanks to your breakdown, I can hear how the phrasing is the same as a classic, stock pentatonic blues lick , only applied to triads. Excellent presentation, and thank you.
After watching this(a few tens of times though), I feel like finally I can do this. With hard work, yes, but it has been explained and demonstrated so well that I don't really have any excuse not to learn it! Thank you!
thank you sensei, for teaching me this awesome solo. great job with all the simple explaining and whammy tricks with the hand mute to isolate the one string you play.
Excellent lesson. Thank you! I've always wondered why I could never make the first section sound quite right - I was just blowing through it without the timing. Also shows how the composition is not just blowing through notes. Nice job John Norum.
Dude, I've been looking for lessons like this for a long time! It's really showing me how shitty my playing is/was and how to make it better! Fantastic work and thank you for taking the time to make these vids!
For the triads, why remove the B string finger after every strike as you move up the fret board? Is it not easier to just leave it pressing the string down?
Personally I love Ben's lessons. But one thing I noticed if you play that first part and keep your index finger down, well it sounds sloppy. If you watch Ben closely in the half speed solo, you can see he is slightly lifting his index finger when he drops down his middle finger in this riff. This is separation of notes so it does not sound sloppy at full speed. This may seem obvious to Ben but maybe he should point this out???? Thanks for the great lesson Ben
in the sweep section you can stick your second finger down and leave it down without tacking it of it might be easier for some to get the fastest sound. Also many others I have seen don't even pick the pull off, just hammer on and pull off no up stroke.
Very glad you mentioned the economy picking in the arpeggios! This isn't a million miles removed from the third section of the Ride The Lightning solo. Again, since my economy picking is absolute balls I'll probably try how this works as tapping ;-)
Nice work Uncle Ben. Jon Norum knew how to put together a great solo. If you fancy tackling another one of his, give Wasted Time from the Wings of Tomorrow album (which is chock full of great 80s guitar) a try.
Was a little nervous going in to this video, because (almost) everytime I see someone try to play this or even teach it it´s wrong (like you pointed out), and I really didn´t want you to do the same, after watching your brilliant breakdowns of other things like overture 1928. Really glad to see we do it the exact the same way, because it both confirms my technique breakdown abilities and that your videos are very reliable. Many thanks for all the work you put into theese videos!
I'm hearing (and have always played) the f# twice (instead of you playing f# d) before the last section (f e d b e b d e) of the blues lick in the middle of the solo. That would kind of correspond to the double a near the end ;-) ). Great tutorial!
Great video and tutorial! My left hand was no problem..without picking,my picking was also ok without left hand!Tricky thing was to put it together..especially second note(my second down stroke picking was not hearable). But,with daily practice you will get it much faster than you think!Once again, best lesson on youtube so far, thumbs up!
