I always thought it was kinda like Moslem/Muslem since we have to convert the words from another alphabet there could be various ways to express the sounds. Thanks for the lesson though.
rottenfinger Not exactly. "Allahu" is how you say Allah in Arabic, so far as I can tell from the lyric of the anthem Allahu Ackbar. It's not a pronunciation thing, as it is an actual word. Of course, this is nothing more than a vaguely interesting fact for those of us who don't believe in Islam.
Even though arma 3 has a much better game engine and physics. (most of the time anyways :P) I still prefer the vibe that arma 2 gave off. It feels more closer to reality than arma 3 does, arma 3 is a tiny bit futuristic.
I've been a battlefield player since my boyfriend got me into it years ago and never really knew about Arma until I happened across your videos. I like how you guys have organized and intelligent play as opposed to what I tend to contend with most of the time lol. Makes me want to give Arma 2 a try!
Thank you for the quick response. I read your guide and have since improved dramatically. The only thing I would suggest to fellow newbs is not to get frustrated and give up. The learning curve is steep but well worth it.
Really interesting to see the planning and deployment that goes on in these missions, I've been absolutely loving your recent videos Dslyecxi, the changes you've made have really upped their quality.
If I remember correctly, that was explained in a video long ago. Someone asked about using optics and marksman weapons. I think Shack avoids using them since it turns the matches into plink-fests where each side just stands off and picks each other off. That may be fun for getting kills and such, but you don't get the cool close combat and heavy weapons usage that makes these videos fun. Hope that answers your question :D
Enjoyed the fast forward so as not to sit through the hiking simulator part. One thing I liked in previous vids is where you walk us a bit through your thinking. While some aspects are obvious to some folks, others may escape mere tactical mortals. Not asking for blow by blow, but just enjoy insights in to decision making (for right/wrong, 20/20 hindsight, etc). Thanks for the vids, beats TV any day.
Easily your best video yet. I find it funny how your kill-to-death ratio seems to be far greater than that of your peers on the opposing and also probably own team as well. Keep on producing, producing, producing!
that sounds similar to my cousin, who was a translator for afghan and American soldiers. His favorite thing during the war was how the afghan soldiers would yell at the Taliban over who's radio channel it is. "This is our channel get off" "no you get off" and keep on yelling at each other over the possession of non-secure channels.
No problem, never hurts to have one more comrade in the glorious fight for Takistan. ARPS has now holds unofficial I44 Saturdays, if you want a WWII flavor of the same sort. (Invasion 1944 is a WWII modification in development for ArmA 2: Combined Operations) As said, United Operations is a pretty cool community too. Despite the illusion ArmA has a small niche community, it's pretty varied and there's definitely a flavor for you. The Bohemia Interactive forums are a good place to start.
8:19 Reference dip in mountain horizon 12 o'clock. Left of dip is large rock formation. Right of rocks is small group of trees. Footmobiles are silhouetted moving moving left to right from trees.
A bit late but you definitely should! Its an amazing game, but is a huge step up in realism. I would give it a shot (if you haven't already) and maybe you`ll make the change.
wow bro now that was intense. you picked off a whole much of them. I am looking forward to seeing your team play on arma3. its cool that your team also play opfors against others.
ARPS and FOLK are both wonderful public communities. Anyone may join, they hold sessions on Sundays and Tuesdays (about 7:20 GMT). You don't need mods, either. They do vanilla Combined Ops, good stuff. For information, see Arma forum section of Rock Paper Shotgun forums or the ARPS steam group.
Awww...I thought this was going to be a cool one. I read "Bar" and was thinking you guys were really defending a Bar. After all got to protect those booze!
I was there and this was the basic plan: Delta and Machine gun team provides overwhelming fire from the North, while Bravo and Charlie assaults from the west. Alpha's job was to try to sneak from the east to support and distract during the assault.
25:51 smoked his ass with a UGL. When he sat down with his cup of tea or can of coke all excited at the start of the game he thought he would be sucking on the wrong end of a golden egg. Wrong place wrong time. Love your work.
I think it would be funny if they had Dyslecxi and Stewe (Dyslecxi's prodigy) as a sniper team vs the rest of shack tac on a VIP mission. Have the rest of shack tac try and defend a VIP from a sniper team while transporting them somewhere. It would be cool to watch from multi perspectives! Like if you think this is a good Idea. I am just putting it out their as an idea.
I get recommended these old videos. Interesting watch. Looking at the map, the town itself is poorly planned. It is very disorganized, and if you compare it to Zargabad, you see a very organized building layout across the whole map. Bar Kanday should be reformatted. It's REALLY strange in terms of building layout.
All these arma vids are really interesting. im from a big military family and soon expected to be joining the army soon so my dad teaches me alot about this kind of tactical stuff, weapon advantages, different kinds of explosives, etc. and the thing that really amuses me about this game is that its almost as similar as a real life battle zone. there are still a lot of things that are inaccurate but its really close to the real deal.
Really enjoyed watching this video, however i have learnt 1 valuable lesson.... Never never try and drink coffee whilst watching these videos, at 31:29 i went to sip my coffee at 31:30 i spilt half the cup over my lap as unexpected grenade went off nearby which made me jump a mile :P
Oh all right, I was curious because the last bit shows BluFor basically swarming the place and I was wondering if the attackers would take the extra time to have a team go around to the other sides, cool!
So good, I love Arma 2 but I hate how people clutter the mic or call out contacts and not giving grid reference and expect you to know where they are. It must be awesome to play with disciplined players who use professionalism and understand tactics.
true because there are no civilians here, if there were civilians like in most every urban battle I've ever heard of, it can be quite difficult to get an airstrike approved.
im in UO its hella fun. However if your stuck with the right or wrong pl/sl then you better know your formations and commands lol. Other than that theres alot of cool guys!
This may seem like a silly question but why do you not assign a grid over the location you are defending like one compound, building or 100 meter square has a specific name, from east to west A1-A2 etc than north to south A1,B1 etc. If everyone has maps than this should not be a problem and it would help keep everyone clear on which location to be in (building northeast corner of A1). If you used something like this instead of relative location there would be less confusion. Just a thought.
Dslyecxi, are there any other groups you can recommend for Arma 2? because when i looked on the internet most are formed into companies and stress a lot on ranking and such. i was looking for more social gameplay but you usually do shacktac stuff when i am going to bed.
Hey dsylecxi, i'm not sure this is the best place to ask you this question, but this mission seems to be right for my question. Wouldn't it be easier to defend a village or place with a few ( < 10 mines). Of course, the way the mines are hidden in arma2+ace makes the game kind of hard and that is probably the reason why I haven't seen any mines in a shacktac mission but your opinion on this topic. btw. most of the times the lower ~3cm are missing in the recording.
Hey Dsylcexi nice video, i have a quick question. How do i place C4s or Mines down? Before I installed ACE i would just scroll up and select "Put C4" but after i installed ACE that option is no longer there? Thanks
I do love the player vs player stuff. Nothing like human tactics and brutality.
Bar Kanday
Kanday Bar
Kandy Bar
Candy Bar
They protect candy bars!
allah akbahr
rottenfinger It's spelled Allāhu Akbar, actually.
I always thought it was kinda like Moslem/Muslem since we have to convert the words from another alphabet there could be various ways to express the sounds. Thanks for the lesson though.

Thats why Dsylecxi is so good with the map and directions, he was reading them and giving directions for 4 years in the marines. God damn.
I loved the intro and organising bit you did - really gave you a good overview of what the defenders were planning to do and how they positioned.
Really interesting to see the planning and deployment that goes on in these missions, I've been absolutely loving your recent videos Dslyecxi, the changes you've made have really upped their quality.
I don't even play Arma2 that much, but this video makes me want to change that. Great stuff!
If I remember correctly, that was explained in a video long ago. Someone asked about using optics and marksman weapons. It does, thank you! I haven't seen all of his videos, so I missed that. =) Thanks again!
I really like your videos, one can cleary see that you love leading fireteams and you definately have a good sense of tactics. Great vid
This was pretty intense. Love the laughing towards the end. You seem genuinely nervous.
That was amazing to watch, better than most battles i have seen in films, great entertainment.

17:18 That guy has that door locked down. Brilliant.
Aww the I44 Mod does look really cool, i might try that. Thanks Mr Strange
Wow I really want to be a member of Shacktac now. this is my kinda thing!
No problem, never hurts to have one more comrade in the glorious fight for Takistan.

Great stuff , really liking the editing! ..as always keep them this long .
That was some very intensive stuff, loved it.
LOL "Don't worry about returning fire, alpha 1"
"Copy, returning fire."
25:50 fucking nailed him.
8:19 Reference dip in mountain horizon 12 o'clock. Left of dip is large rock formation. Right of rocks is small group of trees. Footmobiles are silhouetted moving moving left to right from trees.

Well, thank you for your service.
Thanks alot man! keep doing what you do and good luck in the future :).

Keep it up, love these videos!
This was epic. Well done.
in games like this the more people in the game the better/more fun it generally is.
Awww...I thought this was going to be a cool one. I read "Bar" and was thinking you guys were really defending a Bar. After all got to protect those booze!
16:54 I laughed when the guy just goes in the room and looks out
I was there and this was the basic plan:
Delta and Machine gun team provides overwhelming fire from the North, while Bravo and Charlie assaults from the west. Alpha's job was to try to sneak from the east to support and distract during the assault.
hey Dslycxi i love the vids. there amazing to watch so keep them coming XD
"Just give up!"
"Never you fucktards!"
Priceless.
Great editing of video
great vid dude i support all of shacktac you CHkilroy and beagle idk if youre beagle but ya all of shacktac
Some good ol' Arma 2 RPing
This is great!
These vids are so good!
25:51 smoked his ass with a UGL. When he sat down with his cup of tea or can of coke all excited at the start of the game he thought he would be sucking on the wrong end of a golden egg. Wrong place wrong time. Love your work.
like the yolololo song? We're all over that mate

ah! It sure looked like an incredible match. I'm jealous haha

How old are you?
Thanks
nice, love it
This is the best style of gaming IMO.
Is ShackTac an open community? I'd love to joint it when I get my new computer build up!
played this mission as a delta guy, pretty interesting to see what the defenders saw
You damn near took out 23 by yourself so I guess it almost even, minus the serious disadvantage of having that damn mountain right above the town.
"Fuck! Fuck fuck fuck fuck!" lol I thought your mental breakdown/laugh was pretty funny at the end there.
it would be awesome to see you play with some of the guys from Devil's group
Playing with other communities is generally a recipe for drama, so there's no real interest on our side for such a thing currently.
reasonable
That would be great!
I think he means something like "Ragtime Piano" by Scott Joplin.
So good, I love Arma 2 but I hate how people clutter the mic or call out contacts and not giving grid reference and expect you to know where they are. It must be awesome to play with disciplined players who use professionalism and understand tactics.
that was intense
very cool
what a firefight :)
It would have been awsome to see this from the attackers view aswell.
You know when I saw the title I was thinking you were defending a bar from a bunch of drunks, but I seem to be mistaken.
Anyone else love the grenade launcher reload sound?
Amazing :D
Holy Moly that's alot of enemies
this is the best
25:50 Nice Shot :D
Holy shit, Dys, you kicked some serious ass. What'd you do, account for half of the Marine casualties all by yourself?
true because there are no civilians here, if there were civilians like in most every urban battle I've ever heard of, it can be quite difficult to get an airstrike approved.
I like these small town attacks
Your videos have inspired me to purchase and start playing ARMA. Do you have any advice for new players?
that shot that killed you was amazing and i hear Kilroy
im in UO its hella fun. However if your stuck with the right or wrong pl/sl then you better know your formations and commands lol. Other than that theres alot of cool guys!
Didn't know that there was a website about it or anything.
Oh Dslyecxi, cold blooded at 31:00 hahhaha
True dat, homie. Or what was left of 'em.
Hahaha "foilage" @ 0:52
that sounds amazingly funny
KANDY BARS!

Lol at 32:34 "Killroy's goin around, executing the injured..."
Holy fuck that was intense
Dslyecxi, are there any other groups you can recommend for Arma 2? because when i looked on the internet most are formed into companies and stress a lot on ranking and such. i was looking for more social gameplay but you usually do shacktac stuff when i am going to bed.
you should of played old timey music durring the sped up parts
Haha oh Chkilroy, executing the wounded and just being an all around maniac.
Hey dsylecxi, i'm not sure this is the best place to ask you this question, but this mission seems to be right for my question. Wouldn't it be easier to defend a village or place with a few ( < 10 mines). Of course, the way the mines are hidden in arma2+ace makes the game kind of hard and that is probably the reason why I haven't seen any mines in a shacktac mission but your opinion on this topic.

oh damn... those UGLs
* Motivational to you*
Do you ever use snipers in Arma 2? It seems like they would be pretty useful.
He does seem to know what he's doing doesn't he?
What was the BluFor attack plan? It seemed like they just rushed from two directions.
The fast-forward parts need more yakety sax.
Hey Dsylcexi nice video, i have a quick question. How do i place C4s or Mines down? Before I installed ACE i would just scroll up and select "Put C4" but after i installed ACE that option is no longer there? Thanks
No, they do a lot of missions versus the AI as well.
31:16 "just give up"
dslycxi " NEVAAARRRRR!!!!!1"
