Reflecting McGilchrist's insights on L-R brain assymetry back on this conversation, it may be that our right-hemisphere manifests broad, unconditional curiousity (dancer, lover), while our left-hemisphere is limited to narrow, utilitarian, goal-focused interest (the hunter). I would call the former "awareness-based" curiousity and the latter "attention-based".

BTW, while the open, unconditional and flexible R-brain awareness facilitates syntropic relations (growth, life), our mechanistic left-brain mindset provides entropic capacity for dominance (power, control). In this regard, our R-brain, syntropic "paths" and "walks" will be spontaneous, creative, unique, abundant and open to all. But mechanistic causes, because of their inherint capacity for harmful entropic effects (concentrated power and control), should follow paths that are more uniform, planned, disciplined and restricted to those few with proper training and expertise. Being mindful of the overall context (living things versus technology/tools) ought to guide the type of paths we walk. Being spontaneous and free with dangerous technology is reckless and likely to harm, but being rigid and dogmatic in how we relate to other living beings is also unfortumate and damaging in its own way.
Keeping this distinction in mind can also provide clarity on ambiguous terms like "creative", "productive" and "cooperative" which seem to be positive and life-affirming, but somehow also seem often associated with harm. If we are "creative and cooperative" in wielding technologic power and control (i.e. our industrial economy), and if we call this "productivity (as in GDP), then we are, in fact, being cleverly destructive not creative. We are increasing entropy on our planet. On the other hand, if we use our capacity to cooperate with the planet at large and small levels, then we can participate in her syntropic creativity and productivity. Again, these contrasting capacities for entropic control/power and syntropic flow/love are provided by our left and right hemispheres, respectively.

Fundamentalist left-wing atheists raised me, and my curiosity was also stifled-extremes of any sort set rigid limits.

Thank you for sharing this. So true about the extremes, especially when we do not know they are extremes (does that make sense?)

@@waymaking23 it makes perfect sense. So does the overreaction. Sometimes we have to explore both extremes to know how to navigate the space between.
