HondaPro Kevin Im looking to get my first motorcycle and I'm looking at a lot of brands but for Honda I can't decide between this and the 2016 abs cb500x for my first motorcycle if I go with Honda. The 500x would be 800 more what one do you think is better between the 2? Also my rides would mainly be to and from work during the week so this would be my daily commuter
fukthegoog well the cb500x isn't extremely quicker than a Yamaha r3 for example or other 300 cc bikes but yeah you're right since I'm a total beginner it would probably be better to start on something like this bike
Jeremiah Johnson yeah I'm now looking at the Yamaha wr250r now too it's more expensive than the Honda but supposedly also a better bike in terms of suspension ,top speed, engine and some other things going to be a tough choice. I think I'm definitely leaning towards a dual sport now though.
After more than four years of following the evolution of this bike, I finally bought it. It is the new version 2017 Euro 4, with detachable ABS. Right now, once the KLX 250 and WR250R are discontinued, it has no competition. It's what I expected and wanted, a bike light enough, and versatile, with better performance than the basic 125, and very little more weight. For me, the ideal motorbike for excursions and departures on tertiary roads and natural and rural environments. Anyway, regarding its reliability or if it is worth or not for other tours, ask Steph Jeavons or PeterLeonie, who have been around the world with this bike. Of series, I see two shortcomings little autonomy and little load capacity, but almost everything is correctable because the amount of auxiliary industry accessories for this bike is overwhelming. In short, very happy with her. I hope to have a lot of time, many routes and many experiences ...
+Jeff Ferguson I agree 110%! I'm still surprised Honda didn't throw the CBR300R engine in it and make it a CRF300L with the other changes they threw it at this year. A 2017 CRF300L and CRF300 RALLY would've been awesome! Hopefully Honda's plan on keeping it a 250cc was so they can release a CRF450L & CRF450 RALLY for 2018...
Jeff Ferguson for me the 250 is perfect. I'd need a different license to ride anything bigger than 250 (also have to be older). Maybe they kept that in mind
Oh yeah, I'd love to see a CRF300L and CRF300 RALLY! I think that would've been enough to make some that were hesitant on the 250cc versions to make the jump and buy. Maybe they are finally working on a CRF450L and CRF450 RALLY to match for 2018 and that's why they didn't build a 300 to better help keep the engine size spread far enough apart. Thanks for the kind words and for posting up too! Appreciate it.
HondaPro Kevin No problem man! Do you think the stock suspension would hold up on it. I weigh about 220... I've heard that the suspension is pretty soft for the 250L. I just don't want to buy it if I bottom out a lot over small jumps and stuff.
My opinion is no one is doing dual sport bikes properly. They all have at least one serious draw back. That stems from then not listening to their customers.
IRQ1Conflict Dude, In Europe Honda is the only one left selling small ccm dual sport bikes for a relatively normal price! All the other manufacturers don’t sell their cheap dual sport bikes in Europe even Yamaha :/... so the King is dead- long live the King
+Johny Cash Heck yeah, congrats on the new toy! How are you liking it so far? Lol yeah, sometimes I think they have competitions to see who can design the ugliest rear tail light fender assembly.
I have to believe it's there for a reason no? Because only a dumb ass would place it there. Maybe I'm the dumbass for not knowing why it's placed there
Was annoyed by it at first too. But i'm used to it now, who keeps checking the display all the time anyway (especially while riding). Just a quick glimpse is enough while riding
Oh yeah, you're definitely tall enough to ride it. You won't technically be able to flat-foot on it but you'll be able to touch unlike the other CRF450L / XR650L dual-sport models from Honda.
+André Herculano Thanks bud! It's a Samsung S7 with a DJI Osmo gimbal. It's crazy how far phone technology has came that we can get this kind of quality out of them.
Is there any talk of Honda evolving the XR650L into a CRF650L? The styling of this CRF250L wins hands down over the current XR650L, which now looks so dated.
Depends what you will use it for the most. Daily use, certainly not. Recreational use, say in controlled environments, it'll be ok.. I'm 6ft, its ok for me, but have to stretch my legs a bit when I stop on uneven surface, where the two wheels are placed on a high ground and there's a bit of a lower surface in the center..
+thomas laux Hmm, that's a good question. They are extremely close when it comes to exhaust sound but I'd say the CRF250L is a touch quieter, you'd have a difficult time distinguishing between the two though on sound. Power up hills is going to depend greatly on how much weight she's pulling up that hill. If it's an extremely steep grade and you're 240+ lbs you'll lose some of your momentum and will need to downshift if you want to keep the same speed. For most people though I'd say she has more than enough power on hills to keep you happy.
+Jay _ I'm right there with you! I think Honda is gun-shy on bringing the CRF250M to the USA with how bit of a flop the CRF230M motard was back in the day. That doesn't paint the whole picture though as it wasn't the fact that the mortard just didn't sell well in the USA, it wasn't a good bike and was overpriced for what it was both in motard form and the dual-sport CRF230L version. The CRF250L was 10 times the bike and was cheaper the CRF230L when first introduced and the sales have been unreal for the bike so I think the CRF250M would follow in the CRF250L's footsteps if they'd give it a shot here in the USA... Thanks for checking out the video and for posting up too!
+mike brennan Sadly that'd be a no go on easily swapping out the 2017 CRF250L and CRF450R plastics. That would be awesome though as the plastics look sexy on the 2017 CRF450R! Honda did take a step in the right direction though on the changes to the plastics on the 2017 CRF250L. Now all they need to do is throw the CBR300R engine in there and create a 2018 CRF300L as well as a CRF450L for 2018 and we'll be taking another huge step in the right direction haha.
I think I’m gonna make the number plates red but is there a way I can get Honda red stickers, wrap, or paint. Idk how I’m gonna do it but the motorcross bikes with the #1 red plate look dope. If I ever get new wheels I’ll make em red too
Pro Kevin...just got my new bike last week.. I love your review and video u made... Got a question for you tho.. if I install a hmf exhaust on my 17 crf250l do I need to install efi programmer? I read yes and no.. you did say 2017 is all new and has different mapping and ecu.. so my thoughts was ejk wasn't necessary... What's your thoughts? I'm looking at the q4 slip on pipe only.. kn filter upgrade too in the future... Let me know please.. thanks.
250l engine is from cbr250, 450l engine is from crf450 motocross lineup. maintenance intervals of 250l and 450l are also very different. 250l engine oil change interval is around 12k km, 450l oil chage is around 1k. so yeah. ill chnage my crf250l oil every 6k tho
I just bought a 2017...has anyone heard of Yngwie JDJetting Power Surge 6X.. safe enough to slap on and open this gutless wonder out of a deep sleep!?! It has an FMF header and can on it. It's been geared down. CA. I get a thumbs up for this JD power Surge!!?! Thanks for the vid by the way 🙏
Pretty much the same bike as before now you just don't have to get an ejk, fmf full exhaust, and a standalone tach from what it sounds like by the numbers. I like the new additions but I'm sure it's still lacking on the torquiness you need to get the front tire up without dumping the clutch.( or ripping it into second gear xD)
Signals looks terrible, they still havent updated it in USA models :D Suspansions are too soft, you cant lean it on corner and when hit the brakes, bike stops very late.
+Thanh Ha It's not literally cooled by "water" per say. It has coolant in the radiator etc but water-cooled is common terminology for something that has a radiator instead of being oil-cooled or air-cooled.
+Mark Abreu Haha hmmm... Might be a problem there bud ;) There are some lowering links on the market for them though that could help get you closer to fitting on it comfortably. At minimum get you to where you could side-saddle it when you stop or on the tip of your toes at least.
+Canadian Dave She's not a light girl by any means but I've got to give Honda props on hiding her weight as if you get a chance to ride one you wouldn't think it tips the scales at what it does.
I haven’t ridden it yet but I bought one earlier and I sat on an ABS model and leaned it around and pushed it s little, the weight wasn’t an issue but it’s the widest bike I’ve been on I think, next week whenever mines ready for pickup I’ll see how it rides
Nope, didn't start any rumor. Just stating a fact from Honda like I have many times for more than a decade now. Thanks for being so kind and telling me I should be ashamed of myself, it's greatly appreciated!
HondaPro Kevin How could you pass on a misprint as fact when know better. A water cooled 450 with a 12 to 1 compression ratio easily makes 45. I managed a machine shop for almost thirty years....I even made parts for nuclear weapons...I know Honda would never make such a inefficient engine. My XL500S THAT I HAD THIRTY YEARS AGO HAD 32 HORSEPOWER. It was 9 to one compression ratio. it was aircooled. When I saw all of you idiots saying it had 25 horsepower? I was rolling on the floor. Maybe you Should remove the "pro" from your name..maybe that would serve you better.
Lol call me an idiot all you want bud if that makes you feel better about yourself. I'll say it to you one more time though in case you didn't understand the first go-around, I'm just passing along the info given from Honda. It is not my opinion nor what I "think" something should be because this engine made X amount or that one made Y amount or this person said it should be around this amount etc.
HondaPro Kevin I feel awsome about myself. It's you I have doubts about. I just hate to see you be so easily fooled by a some info to you claim to have the inside track on, spread it. Then you and cyclecruza start the lemming parade. So, get your facts straight. Idiot may have been a strong term but, you sure did not come out of this looking like scholar.
There is a BigBore kit if you want change to 300cc but to be honest, I really HATE Honda is obviously giving a shit about the demands of ppl riding the CRF since years...like I do... some suggestions Bigger Tank like on the Rally plastic bomber... I dont like the Rally, would have bought it if the headlights are on top of each other and not so fucking unsymetrical..makes it an ugly looking ride...also too much colour, blue red white...i dont like blue :D fine bike but the tank is anoying on longer trips
+BWX Thanks bud... No problem at all, thank you for being appreciative and saying "thanks" instead of being rude like guy above for no reason. I've been slacking because of the cold weather but I've got loads more videos to finish up once the cold finally breaks. Thanks again for not only taking the time to watch but comment too...
Srsly, 22 hp? Buy a 2017 crf 250r and get 38 hp and also weighs less, who cares if you gotta revalve it, buy a street set and a dirt set of tires/wheels, youll have more fun, this bike is for the everyday loser honestly what were they thinkin, 22hp? Srsly? Same price too, scored my 2017 250r brand new for 6 out the door 😂

Does anyone else hear Bill Clinton giving a great review ?? :)
Nice!!
changes are good but the bigger 300 cc engine and a 3 gallon tank would be nice
+Jeff Ferguson I agree 110%! I'm still surprised Honda didn't throw the CBR300R engine in it and make it a CRF300L with the other changes they threw it at this year. A 2017 CRF300L and CRF300 RALLY would've been awesome!

300 ? at least a 400 , retake the throne from Drz
Jeff Ferguson for me the 250 is perfect. I'd need a different license to ride anything bigger than 250 (also have to be older). Maybe they kept that in mind
If it ends up weighting 180 kilos it may take the throne from the Goldwing! XD
huh? GW weights 300 plus kg ,always , even a old skool xr4 weights 110 kg
I'd like a 300 but the improvements to this one were very much needed. Thanks for the review
Oh yeah, I'd love to see a CRF300L and CRF300 RALLY! I think that would've been enough to make some that were hesitant on the 250cc versions to make the jump and buy. I just picked mine up yesterday and can't wait to cut up tail light mud flap assembly.
+Johny Cash Heck yeah, congrats on the new toy! How are you liking it so far?
Lol yeah, sometimes I think they have competitions to see who can design the ugliest rear tail light fender assembly.
Honda please do something with that damn brake line.
+My Damn Channel lol glad to see I'm not the only that it drives crazy! Horrible placement.
Agreed. I have a 2014 supermoto and it bugs the shit out of me. Always blocking the mph or neutral indicator.
and the TANK please... 0,1Gallon more is laughable, make it 10L like on the CRF Rally and go 300 instead of 150km
250 ccs is more than enough for a trail bike. I got a dr650. Great bike. But it hurts when it falls on you. 250 is great.
Honda CRF450l is what we need, something with a bit more go on the roads, come on Honda hurry up with the 450 and take my money
yeah wtf honda is thinking , people like me are prepared to throw money ,lol
I personally would just like a 300 because 450s scare me😂
300 ? wtf , at least a 400 , to take over xr 4
Jay Ash good looking bike .
I know this comment is a year old, but your wish has been granted. Honda announced their new crf450l, so go check it out.
Picking my new 2017 today!!
+wjb111 Heck yeah bud! Congrats!
Are they sold in Dallas i can't find them
Sharp lookin bike. Wish it was a 450.
Nice overview, thanks!
SeeK Thanks for the kind words. Makes the effort worth it when people appreciate the videos. Thanks again!
Would I be tall enough to ride that I’m 5’5
Oh yeah, you're definitely tall enough to ride it. You won't technically be able to flat-foot on it but you'll be able to touch unlike the other CRF450L / XR650L dual-sport models from Honda.
Awsome - what has been needed. thx for posting
great video, what is your camera?
Awesome camera quality man.
+André Herculano Thanks bud! It's a Samsung S7 with a DJI Osmo gimbal. It's crazy how far phone technology has came that we can get this kind of quality out of them.
according to your camera, they've also now made it PINK! :D
Lol yeah, there's about 3 different shades of red on the bike and one of them is pink.
yo bro how many strokes is it im looking to buy a bike and i like this one, great video btw!

Is there any talk of Honda evolving the XR650L into a CRF650L? The styling of this CRF250L wins hands down over the current XR650L, which now looks so dated.
Weight is about the same as a 1983 xl 600 how does Honda do it?
Adam Batchelder water cooling, electric start, abs and more fairings.
Im like 5 foot 4...do you think that this bike would be to big for me even if i trow on supermoto tires????
Depends what you will use it for the most. Daily use, certainly not. Recreational use, say in controlled environments, it'll be ok.. I'm 6ft, its ok for me, but have to stretch my legs a bit when I stop on uneven surface, where the two wheels are placed on a high ground and there's a bit of a lower surface in the center..
I agree, the 300cc engine would be the perfect and easey opgrade 👍
How does the new and improved CRF250L compare in power and torque to the wr250r?
can u open the cover set if thier is ubox or compartment,, why this japanese never put a ubox or compartment in this big bike,,??
Is the 650 or this one thats quieter? How is the power up hill?
+thomas laux Hmm, that's a good question. They are extremely close when it comes to exhaust sound but I'd say the CRF250L is a touch quieter, you'd have a difficult time distinguishing between the two though on sound.

mom walked in on me watching this and i felt embarrassed.
Really would like to see the supermoto version of this bike for sale in the US.
+Jay _ I'm right there with you! I think Honda is gun-shy on bringing the CRF250M to the USA with how bit of a flop the CRF230M motard was back in the day. Thanks for checking out the video and for posting up too!
J
can u put does plasticon the rally ????
Hey what plastics and graphics from the 450 are interchangeable? Thanks!!!
+mike brennan Sadly that'd be a no go on easily swapping out the 2017 CRF250L and CRF450R plastics. That would be awesome though as the plastics look sexy on the 2017 CRF450R! I think I’m gonna make the number plates red but is there a way I can get Honda red stickers, wrap, or paint. Idk how I’m gonna do it but the motorcross bikes with the #1 red plate look dope. If I ever get new wheels I’ll make em red too
Honda Pro Kevin im about to buy one. Whats the topspeed bone stock?
Where are they sd in dallas
How much cheaper would a brand new 2016 enduro like this cost in 2020 compared to a 2020 model....
how tall are you ? because I am thinking of getting a Honda CRF250L :)
+The MotorradAbhängig I'm 6'2 and fit comfortably with my legs slightly bent.
5"9 own the 2017 and it's a bit tough to mount.
I'm 1.80m , I'm thinking to buy it, however I'm not sure if it fits for me
Pro Kevin...just got my new bike last week.. Let me know please.. thanks.
It’s weird that this bike is actually heavier than the 450 L. What’s up with that?
250l engine is from cbr250, 450l engine is from crf450 motocross lineup. maintenance intervals of 250l and 450l are also very different. 250l engine oil change interval is around 12k km, 450l oil chage is around 1k. so yeah. ill chnage my crf250l oil every 6k tho
I would like a 400cc supermoto
Then you don't need to look at the Japanese dual-sports. Husqvarna or KTM is your choice.
There is no 400ccm Supermoto or dual-Sport!
+Julius Baumgartner Suzuki drz400
I know I'm.pretty late, but can you turn off the abs? :-)
What’s the top speed on this bike?
Mine does ~130kph on the straight.
Thanks for the vid by the way 🙏
I think I’m gonna get a red light cover/number plate i think it’ll look sick
Why you no start it
If they would just make a 350 with a 3 gallon tank, 6 speed
I would be happy
I made some Wallpapers in 1440p for those who want some. Credit obviously goes to HondaPro Kevin.

Like to see a drz 400 next
Pretty much the same bike as before now you just don't have to get an ejk, fmf full exhaust, and a standalone tach from what it sounds like by the numbers. I like the new additions but I'm sure it's still lacking on the torquiness you need to get the front tire up without dumping the clutch.( or ripping it into second gear xD)
Honda Plz launch CRF 250L in India in 2019.... We need this bike.....
I really like this bike but would not even think about it since they have this Brake line infront like it is..
+Cruiser John Haha yeah, that one has baffled me since day one. I would like to talk to whoever made that decision...
Hacen envíos a Nicaragua
your voice sounds like elmer fudd
Signals looks terrible, they still havent updated it in USA models :D
Suspansions are too soft, you cant lean it on corner and when hit the brakes, bike stops very late.
Does it have any storage?
max m trigga is that a joke?
Richard Crawford ????
Minimal. You can put for phone In there.
steven metz thx
On the number plate opposite exhaust I can fit my phone, wallet, gum, and inhaler. Under the seat I keep registration and insurance
Why you sound like Casey Affleck?
My dad just got that exact bike today
is it truly water cooled?
+Thanh Ha It's not literally cooled by "water" per say. It has coolant in the radiator etc but water-cooled is common terminology for something that has a radiator instead of being oil-cooled or air-cooled.
Can it sit idle? or do I need to keep moving like my Harley?
Thanh Ha no its afake one!
Yes, it can idle all day.
better design than xr 650
I wish it came in another color besides red!
John Wesley . . .Red is the international color of honda, thats why most honda bikes were RED color hilights always..
John Wesley just buy new plastics.
As well as user friendly its a really low maintenance bike.
I'd put a 450 engine in it. That would be awesome
+Stuff stuff and More stuff Ohhh yeah, we desperately need a CRF450L! While they're at it we need a CRF450M and CRF450 RALLY too lol!
HondaPro Kevin yeah most deffinetly haha
MY HONDA CR250L GOES 300MPH ITS SUPER MEGA SUPED UP.
Love it but wouldn't buy it just because of that front brake line.
What? You can just tuck it away with a loose cable tie or something
Dumbass it's called a cable tie... How can that incredibly easily fixed flaw be a complete deal breaker...
Love this model. Inseam 30 inches. Seat height 34 inches. Hmmm.
+Mark Abreu Haha hmmm... Might be a problem there bud ;)
There are some lowering links on the market for them though that could help get you closer to fitting on it comfortably. At minimum get you to where you could side-saddle it when you stop or on the tip of your toes at least.
It's just so damn expensive here in the UK.
Icansee u isn't that like the U.K. motto?
sweet I like mine too its payed for lol 2014
I have the 2014
this 320lbs with 250cc my xr650L is 346lbs much better suspension
I'm like 5'7 or 5'8, I'll be tip toeing, huh?
TeamWake-N-Bake sure will be
where the hell is th crf400 with low maintenance scedual?????????????????? come on honda.....250cc????? thanks for making awsome girl bikes Honda
Mines being assembled right now
How i wish.
I think it's 320 pounds and that alone sucks
+Canadian Dave She's not a light girl by any means but I've got to give Honda props on hiding her weight as if you get a chance to ride one you wouldn't think it tips the scales at what it does.
I haven’t ridden it yet but I bought one earlier and I sat on an ABS model and leaned it around and pushed it s little, the weight wasn’t an issue but it’s the widest bike I’ve been on I think, next week whenever mines ready for pickup I’ll see how it rides
Damm..i want this as 50cc with akrapovic silencer=wroooooooomm nnnnn Bum
You are the one that started the rumor of the crf450l having 25 horsepower. You should be ashamed.
Nope, didn't start any rumor. Just stating a fact from Honda like I have many times for more than a decade now. Thanks for being so kind and telling me I should be ashamed of myself, it's greatly appreciated!

Chuck Bowen
The fact doesn't come from nowhere. It's 25 hp here in Europe and in Asia as well.
FI??
I hate FI in dual sports..
5 grand for a 250 cc bike ? wholy crap ! not worth it .
The Versys series is crap offroad. Its a road bike with a dirt bike look. Terrible low end torque as well.
Its a Honda, deal with it.
Omg this is bill Clinton
for $500 more you could get the best: Suzuki DRZ400S
There is a BigBore kit if you want change to 300cc but to be honest, I really HATE Honda is obviously giving a shit about the demands of ppl riding the CRF since years...like I do...
some suggestions
Bigger Tank like on the Rally plastic bomber... I dont like the Rally, would have bought it if the headlights are on top of each other and not so fucking unsymetrical..makes it an ugly looking ride...also too much colour, blue red white...i dont like blue :D
fine bike but the tank is anoying on longer trips
Man what's with your voice..?its irritating
+Rajath K S Thanks!
No it's not. thanks for the review.
HondaPro Kevin I am sorry for being rude...but I didn't know your voice was bad because of the cold...... Peace ✌️
