  • The boys dive in....or not...into the Ardbeg Corryvreckan to find out where this pit leads. Do they find something good at the bottom of the whirlpool? Check out the review to find out.

It's always fun to guess how much you've been drinking before the camera started rolling... Rosy cheeks, lazy eyelids, less coherent speech... it's all good 😄 Love your dynamics, love the difference in opinion and love the obvious friendship. Thnx guys, Ardbeg is defenitely on the list!

Guys, I think it's a bit unfair to ding it because of the closed nose. The bottle was freshly opened & the abv is around 57% => of course it's closed down.
But in the end your scores are fair :-)

I love this stuff: it is my current go to bottle in the $80-$100 range (unfortunately it's $93 + tax in my area). A few drops of water seem, to me at least, help bring out the Ardbeg/waxy flavor... If that's what I'm chasing but I've got the 10 for that and it's only $45.
Cheers guys and thanks for the great review as always, keep it up!

Yeah. They dont keep that as a secret. From those you have both the sweetness and spicyness. ;)

My favorite Ardbeg.. so complex.. but in a great way. Love the Ten also, but this is even better.

Check the laser code below the rear label and report back. I've been drinking Corryvreckan for years and nearly every bottle had a black pepper spice that really balances out that sweetness and creates a more complex taste but I haven't opened my most recent bottle from last year so it could have changed.

It's great to see you back together and as always your reviews are entertaining. However until you live with the bottle and see how it develops once open and only do your reviews just before Shaun kills it they are always going to be flawed. I have had 5 or 6 bottles of this including the first release and it needs time. This is a 3.125 but Fumare is a 3.5!

Bought a bottle of this today. The website says it's finished in ex-bourbon casks. My bottle does say non-chill filtered. I'm obviously commenting 3 years after this video, so they could have added this since.

      $92 a bottle here Michigan

    • @utoobia

You got that right. There is definitely some younger, hotter whisky in there, plus high ABV, a lot of spiciness (from the French oak casks?) and a good dose of peat. Needs to be cut down to 100 proof and let air work on it gradually. Sipping a dram over an hour and it’s constantly changing (most than most). Your mileage may vary.

This is surprising. Usually the Cory is crazy spicy. It will benefit from time in the bottle. My Oogy got significantly better.

I've never had it but intend to someday. I did some digging on the casking though a while back out of curiousity. There's a few older videos on youtube that talk about the French oak influence in the Corryvrecken with Mickey Heads and Hamish Torrie. A recent one with Brendan McCarron says that the original recipe was to use 100% new French oak barriques but they settled with 30% fully matured in new French oak barriques and 70% ex-bourbon. The French oak species in the barriques was confirmed to be Quercus Robur by Cameron George. Hope that helps! Cheers
