As a recent Ardbeg convert, I recently had the opportunity to compare the Uigeadail to the Corryvreckan and so far, for my money, I prefer the Uigeadail. I find the Corryvreckan lacks some of the drama of the Uigeadail, which is what I enjoy so much about it. The Corryvreckan seems to be the more balanced and dare I say, "muted" of the two. I guess when I'm in the mood for a peated Scotch, I'm not really looking for subtlety.
Guys what’s the glasses used? Glencairn cdn whiskey? Or other? I have the typical glencairn glass...looking for something a bit more relaxed for regular sipping/sniffing.
Whiskey PPMValues. How peatted-smoky-they are. (Islay scotch). PPM values Here are some examples of PPM values of some well known distilleries. I know it is probably shocking for those not used to Islay peated whiskies, but I find the current 10 quite elegant - like a quintessential scotch. I don't find it harsh and/or bold. It's just nice and balanced.
Finished off a dram of Uigeadail (with a touch of water) whilst watching your video. Made me appreciate it all the more. I found that the reasons for your liking it matched my own. Thank you for that!
Just purchased Ardbeg uigeadail for the first time last night and it was Amazing. Up until last night, Ardbeg 10 was my favorite but the complexity of the uigeadail is amazing. I don't get "sweetness" from the uigeadail, rather I get a nice dark red wine note from it that I interpret as more "rich fruit" than "sweet". The front palate literally tastes like Im drinking dry sherry wine, and its not until the mid palate where that tangy/meaty and rich ardbeg smokieness comes in. The finish ends with a salted bacon note, grazzed with bbq sauce that was mingled with rich dry red wine. Simply Amazing.
Ardbeg 10 is really great, isn't it? :D Just tried it first time about 2 weeks ago, I'm in love with these peat infused isles scotches now. Haven't even touched my Wild Turkey Rare Breed bottle in this time xD Got the Corryvreckan on order atm, I love the lack of sweetness of the Ardbeg 10, the strong peat smell, and the bitter taste at the end. Corryvreckan should be just that, but one level higher. I'm excited not gonna lie lol
@@em4703 I have a bottle of Corryvreckan that has 1/3rd of the juice left. It is the best whisky I have ever tasted, even better than the oogie. I still enjoy a good cask strength bourbon/rye, but Islay...Islay has my heart.
Slowly binge-watching all your videos. Really enjoying the quick hitters and the shootouts. The livestreams are lots of fun as well. Thanks for all the information and ideas for new whiskeys to try. Well cool. I was just trying to find a comparison of the ardbeg line and this was an awesome video. I know this is an older video but it still carries today. Ha. I got a chance to taste ardbeg 10 and laphroaig 10. Went with the ardbeg but I’ve been trying to decide between the uigeadail and corryvreckon. I think you all helped me decide on the uigeadail. Thanks so much. Love all your videos by the way
I'm drinking the Ardbeg 10 for the first time while I'm watching this. it's like someone shoveled an ashtray in my mouth. I love it!. I finished off a bottle of Laphroaig 10 in record time a few days ago. I am hooked on peated Scotch but I'm not sorry.
Record time I have like 7pc 10's and my third uigeadail right now. That's a record now damn I never drink so much but today I said f*ck it. Also I'm not sorry. And I'm drunk. It was a long time ago now actually but yeah Monday starts dry week.
They're all great, imo, but for me the added brine notes and punchiness of the higher abv in the Corryvreckan just add some magic for me putting it ahead. No bad options in the bunch though for sure.
as I watching this is decided to have some Jameson black barrel (yes I know it's Irish whisky not scotch) but could you guys do Jameson caskmates and black barrel.
I don't like the sweetness of the Uigeadail... I'm with you, bart. The ten is a keeper, and the Corryvreckan is more complex, but the Uigeadail just doesn't agree with me as much as the Corryvreckan... So, how about your takes on that Laphroaig triple wood? LOL
My first Smokey scotch was Ardbeg uigeadail, it was super heavy smoke at first, made me think I was more of a sweet, smooth guy. I tried Redbreast 12 Cask strength and Lustau, Glenfiddich 12,Bruichladdich 2010 Organic. Which I love, then something happened, came back to Ardbeg Uigeadail, and I loved the smoke. Now I'm a heavy Peat lover..
Thanks Simple! That one is a good one. If you can find one, the Dark Cove Committee Release (higher abv) is outstanding. We have a sample of the standard Dark Cove and are getting ready to compare it to the committee release.
Hmm I'll keep my eye out but I can't recall seeing those in my area. Gonna pick up some Laphroaig 10 today and give it another shot! Last time I had it I wasn't a fan of the finish but may appreciate more now.
This is an oldie but goodie!! I love all of these Ardbeg expressions and I think the UIG is my favourite!. I do love the higher ABV in the Corey but there's something that really grabs me with the UIG. The peat is a bit harsh in the Ten but someone could pour me any one of these beauties and I'd be happy. To be honest I really like the punch from the Ten. I usually want more peat, more smoke, a nice tar peat, a delicious cigar peat, but still the UIG is lovely and it's pulling as my fave of the 3 right now. In Canada the UIG is about $160.00 plus tax right now. Single malts are going up so much in price. I do love these! Terrific tasting notes guys from the palette! Hey I am in Vancouver so I noticed the RCMP cap right away! Cheers!
The peat is not harsh in the 10 you need to let it develop in the glass for 10-15 minutes and it's a completely different dram with a long aftertaste, nothing short about it at all. It blooms long and slow.
@@ScotchTestDummies Right, that makes sense - I've been respectfully working my way through a airport one-liter bottle over a longer period of time approaching it in different ways and I honestly find it almost smooth (within the style) when you come at it in certain ways and the layers of the smoke on the aftertaste I find quite delicate and velvety and subtle, compared to the bonfire style of say some Laphroighs. Some of it's ashen sure (though not ashtray, to me - lifelong non smoker here) but not limited to that - and the lingering sweetness I think carries it beautifully and in simple honest way ... straight from the bottle it can be a bit short-lived up front and I agree perhaps harsh if you will, but that really changes A LOT with time and gives way to something else ...

If it doesn't state on the bottle that no colour is added, you have to assume that it is. Laphroaig is in a green bottle too but even the 18 says on the label that it has colour. It just doesn't say it in English. (German and Danish, as far as I can tell).
Certain countries have rules that it has to be on there. USA doesn't. You are correct if it doesn't say no colorant, assume it is in there. Thanks Colourless!
Interesting review! Most of us brits find the two NAS expressions to be vastly different from the dry smoke if the 10. Both corry and oogie have a strong saline punch on the face that is unique, the oogie has a sweeter complexity due to the sherry casking. Corry has no sweetness at all, it's like being punched in the face and then laid down gently on a bed of cinders! If you like slightly peated sherried Islay malts try Bunnahabhain 12. Personally, corry is the king of peated islay but that's the fun we all have different tastes!
Had the Uigeadial for the first time, this afternoon...& 100%, completley LOVED it! This is coming from someone who has only had LESS THAN 10 Scotches! The Uigeadial is (as Bart keeps saying) "PHENOMENAL!"
@@ScotchTestDummies Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Your videos are ALWAYS a blast; BUT the thing that I enjoy the MOST, is your friendship! Have a GREAT evening- Peace!
@@ScotchTestDummies You're most welcome! Started following you guys, around late June, 2019 (,VIA the Whisk(e)y Vault/Tribe) & consider myself fortunate, thankful & blessed, that I found your channel, soo early in my whisky journey/adventure- which is for the rest of my life. Again: thank YOU!
100% agree with Bart. The 10 is a magic drink with a singular character. It's delicious. I tasted the Uigeadail a few years after drinking the 10 religiously. For the first few drams I couldn't get my mind away from the 10... The Uigeadail seemed like a confused younger brother... BUT after a few drams I got it. Uigeadail is complex and really tasty with a little sherry influence, treacle and salty caramel influences. It's delicious.... BUT....BART.... you are on the money. The 10 knows who it is. It's simple and it's sensational. The Corryvreckan is just a gimmick...
So was the Royal Canadian Mounted Police cap AND use of Canadian glencairns just a fluke? Thanks guys. I just bought myself a bottle of Uigeadail and Ten year in prep for an online Ardbeg tasting tomorrow. I'm thinking we should also be using the spelling Whisk-eh! for Whisky up here but whatever. Slainte Mhath!
Love the ardbeg 10 and I really really love the uigeadail. Good comparison. I think couldn't wait till the comparo was finished. lol. If you guys like the uigedail, then you need to try both the glendronach peated and the bunnahabhain moine oloroso. Both give me a wow factor. They are young, but exceptional with the peat and sherry combo.
Enjoyed the Uigeadail! The weird thing is the first dram from the bottle was massive sherry, than the rest of the bottle I never got the same sherry experience. I just finished a bottle of Bowmore Darkest 15yo, very good but a different peat than Ardbeg.
I can't believe I haven't tried the Ardbeg 10 yet. I'm picking up a few new whiskies tomorrow and Ardbeg 10 is on top of the list. I'm also hoping to pick up a bottle of Peat Monster. I guess I'm in the peaty, smoky camp with you, Bart.
I have never seen enthusiasm to this degree as Bart's. I take it he likes PEAT, SMOKE. So do I but I will have to work hard to get the enthusiasm to 11. Great "vintage" review guys.
I'm with you, Bart. The Ardbeg 10 is amazing and incredible value. Uigedail is nice but I'm not sure it's worth 50% more in price for me. Time will tell. Have a Corryvreckan but haven't cracked in open yet.
@@brendan3518 I agree - not harsh at all, you just need to leave it to develop in the glass for 10-15 minutes and wee miracles begin to happen in my opinion. I never drink it right away.
i have all three in my collection . like Bart the ten is my fav. there is an underlying reason as to why i did not get dark cove.the very high prices for non age statement bottles really tick me off.I'm all done paying top dollar for fancy names.the best deal is the ten.for islay it is ardbeg ten and laphroaig cask strength ten.both non chill filtered.great review.
Uigeadial is like BEING at a campfire not EATING a campfire - you guys don't pickup any hit of smoked meats, like bacon? (From the Uigeadail) I haven't tried the 10 yet.
I love Ardbeg 10 and buy it regularly out of all the heavily peated whiskys its still by far my favourite. The Uigeadail ive had several times and never been a huge fan of it to be honest id rather have the 10. I love sherry'd whiskys but something about ardbeg peat and sherry just didnt co-mingle for me that good. Id rather have my heavy sherry whisky's and heavy peated whiskys seperate. Its deffinently worth the try but not a bottle id buy again. The Corry I had once and it wasnt anything special. A good whisky but id take 10 or Uigeadail over Corry anyday.
This was a really good one boys. Scott had me cracking up watching him after taking swigs off any of them,..closing his eyes and kind of powering through the experience. Lol -- fun shoot out.
Isn't it great when you can buy a 10 yr scotch and love it. How often can you say that. The only peat scotch that I've had was the Famous Lagavulin 16 which was hard for me to finish and the Talisker 10 which wasn't to bad. Both of which are well under $100. Anyway's the Ardbeg Uigeadail is on my list being sherry influenced, cost me about $70 and rates as 97.5 PTS - 2013 WHISKY BIBLE WORLD WHISKY OF THE YEAR. Great video.
I think I'm not going to try the Ardbeg 10, sounds to peaty for me. I left a comment about the Uigeadail on your other video. Just the right balance of peat, nice complex and a nice sweet note. I will have to pick up a 50ml sample of the Corryvreckan before I commit to a 750ml bottle. Uigeadail cost me $60 what a steal. Will let you know what I think about sampling the Corryvreckan before I spend $74.
+Scotch Test Dummies Tried a 50ml sample of the Corryvreckan last night while watching the Warriors. Tried it neat and with water. It was to sharp, to strong even with water. If you add to much water you will kill the scotch profile. I can't imagine paying your scotch prices. I don't know why Kansas charges more than Ca. Our gas prices are higher, so is our housing. I guess that's the trade off?
Thanks! I appreciate this. I have the 10 and the Uigeadail, and I don't think I need to purchase the Corryvreckan (maybe some other time) based upon this comparison. I like the idea of the Laphroig 10 versus the Ardbeg 10. That would be a great taste comparison. Keep up the great work. Thanks.
Uigeadail is my fav ardbeg... I always get a bandaid adhesive on the nose with the Uigeadail which eerly I find appetizing! not so much on the 10. Still both awesome scotches.
For the record, I am not anti "body-putty". With that said, I'm still looking for that 1970's unleaded gas waft. ha ha Enjoyed this. I have a question which is slightly off topic, but related. I'm a bit of a comic book and retro game collector. When you collect things of this nature, there is the whole cost/space issue. Just ask my wife. With the amount of Scotch and Whiskey you review.. unless you're borrowing it, how the heck do you store it? ha ha I mean, at some point, you reach critical mass. Had to ask...
+Sal Renzulli ....well Scott has about 1/2 the bottles and Bart the other half. Bart just built his bar and has room for about 300 bottles. Maybe someday Scott will build his bar.
Just watching your video again while sipping on the Uigeadail... Man for being a sherry guy, this scotch marries the sweet and smoke like no other. The Corryvreckan is good, just sharper and stronger in abv. The ugi is a very nice balance. Loving it.
Scott, i like the way you say uigeadail :-) this stuff is just amazing, full bodied, complex, the peatiness is not so pushy and it has that hint of sherry sweetness and friendliness no other ardbeg or laphroaig offers. I'm not a peathead or a big Islay Fan,but this is the stuff that reconciled me with the old smoky island
I've heard my pronunciation is off 😀 I also like the Laphroaig Triple wood which i just picked up another bottle of. good sherry and peat, not quite as "dark" as the ardbeg oogy.
Such an interesting comparison. Great video but i just gotta say...dail....uigeDAIL. as in tail or Dale. not doll. lol made me cringe every single time i heard it lol. Slainte!
Thanks Katelyn! We are not professionals at the pronunciations, but are learning. Bart did a parody apology for pronunciation video. Check it out if you get the chance! scott

Personally, corry is the king of peated islay but that's the fun we all have different tastes!
what did you think about the Kelpie?
Scotch Test Dummies not tasted it! One that I have that's quite similar again is Laphroaig quarter cask.
I love how Scott is just sitting there to shoot the opening and he's completely not ready for Bart to start shouting SMOKE!
smoke baby smoke
Ardbeg 10 is light flakey buttery biscuits I feel like I’m immune to peat
Had the Uigeadial for the first time, this afternoon...& 100%, completley LOVED it! This is coming from someone who has only had LESS THAN 10 Scotches! The Uigeadial is (as Bart keeps saying) "PHENOMENAL!"
Very nice Ben!
@@ScotchTestDummies Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Your videos are ALWAYS a blast; BUT the thing that I enjoy the MOST, is your friendship! Have a GREAT evening- Peace!
FYI the friendship that both of you have- Scott & Bart
Thank you Ben!
Thanks Rob sounds like we have similar tastes. Thanks for watching and commenting. bart
I love the 10, and I love the Corryvrecken, but I haven't tried the Uigeadall. Dang, I better get to work.
yes you should Jeff!
A Canadian buddy sent new the hat and not sure why we used the other glasses. Fluke I do think.
Corryvreckan says non chill-filtered on the box. Ardberg ten is my pick
nothing wrong with the 10 at all.
Solid review gentleman.
Thanks Watch
Enjoyed the Uigeadail! The weird thing is the first dram from the bottle was massive sherry, than the rest of the bottle I never got the same sherry experience. I just finished a bottle of Bowmore Darkest 15yo, very good but a different peat than Ardbeg.
+Dan E ..the Bowmore Darkest has been on my list to try for awhile now.
the Bowmore Lamrig, cask strenght and so much better than the Darkest. More rich and more complex. If you can get your hands on it, it's a must.
+coachace123 ...both good choices. One of Bart's favorites if not his favorite is the Laphroiag 10 year Cask Strength.
Someone should do something sacrilegious like blending the Uigedail and the 10 together into one dram...
don't think thats sacrilegious at all! blend away!
Corryvreckan is not chill filtered. Only under 46 they chill filter it most off the time
Thanks
Corey weekend is like drinking poison or your tongue getting attacked by angry hornets esp compared to other ardbegs
I have never seen enthusiasm to this degree as Bart's. I take it he likes PEAT, SMOKE. So do I but I will have to work hard to get the enthusiasm to 11. Great "vintage" review guys.
Bart loves the peat.
You went Spinal Tap on him. Yeah!
I'm with johnnie smallberries, Ardbeg 10 is the go to. The Oogie is good to but I tend to gravitate to the 10 most frequently.
+cato cato ..scott says oogie.
My first Scotch tasting...Ardbeg Uigeadail and Lagavulin 16...WoW...what a way to enter a black hole...what in the hell was I thinking...
Genius
I'm with you, Bart. The Ardbeg 10 is amazing and incredible value. Uigedail is nice but I'm not sure it's worth 50% more in price for me. Time will tell. Have a Corryvreckan but haven't cracked in open yet.
I also don't find Ardbeg 10 harsh at all for what it's worth....
all the Ardbegs do well in our blind peat shootouts!
@@brendan3518 I agree - not harsh at all, you just need to leave it to develop in the glass for 10-15 minutes and wee miracles begin to happen in my opinion. I never drink it right away.
Great review guys!
+Benjamin Diedrich ...thanks for watching Benjamin!
i have all three in my collection . like Bart the ten is my fav. there is an underlying reason as to why i did not get dark cove.the very high prices for non age statement bottles really tick me off.I'm all done paying top dollar for fancy names.the best deal is the ten.for islay it is ardbeg ten and laphroaig cask strength ten.both non chill filtered.great review.
+speed rack ...Thanks Speed.
Preach it Rakk. Preach it! Bart
Great video 👍
Thank you
Uigeadial is like BEING at a campfire not EATING a campfire - you guys don't pickup any hit of smoked meats, like bacon? (From the Uigeadail) I haven't tried the 10 yet.
thanks Candy Monster, might not have gotten it at the time. Our love of Ardbeg has grown since this video too!
Love the Lid BART ! Canadian POPO !
haha thats an old one!
your Rick impression is great :)
Rick?
Just can't watch the entire video, cause I keep on restarting it to see Scott laughing at Bart's show on intro!!! You guys simply rock.
+marleon1074 ...awesome! thanks for that compliment.
+marleon1074 Thanks marleon...Bart
Ardbeg do not add food coloring. So Scott is right. That's why their bottles are dark green. Long Live the Peat!
Thanks Shmulik!
Lads, dont know what all this campfire smoke is about...Ardbeg is all seaweed, oyster beds, saline....and sweetness.
making me thirsty!
drinking a dram of the Uigeadail while I watch your review. You guys are great, good companion to my scotch on my Friday night. Slainte!
thanks Patrick.
I love the 10 too. I like it more than the Lagavulin 16 even. after this, I have to try ghe Uigeadail. thanks guys
+chiz_whiz thank you for tuning in whiz!
Ardbeg 10 the scotch "kickin chicken" love it.
that it is Yitshak.
This was a really good one boys. Scott had me cracking up watching him after taking swigs off any of them,..closing his eyes and kind of powering through the experience. Lol -- fun shoot out.
+Billy Hughes ...thats exactly what i was doing, powering through!
+Keith Petersen ...great comments Keith, whole heartedly agree!
You are talking about Lagavulin 16 right! I don't know where you live, but Costco in Danville Ca, sells it everyday for $55.......
Try "The Whisky Exchange" & "Master of Malt" online. You save S/H costs when buying 2 bottles or more.
+Keith Petersen ...Scott agrees with you Keith. I wish we had those prices around here. Uiegi is $90 and Correy $110.
I'll take it (the trade off)!
+Scotch Test Dummies With a trade off like that, I would be buying scotch as often as you guys and doing videos also :) Keep up the videos.
+MRKTM690smc SMOKE Baby...SMOKEEEEEE
+Scotch Test Dummies I laughed out loud at that opening in the shootout! SHOOTING SMOKE baby! Smoke!!! Haha
can't do the bandaid flavors. not to mention creosote or tar.
Ardbeg 10 with sprite. 👌
may have to try that one
Laphroaig and Ardbeg are doing a joint release: LaphBeg. Reminiscent of what goes on in bedrooms worldwide!
+Nokomisclub ...hey, you can point just don't laugh.
Oogie doll! 😂
we've learned since this review!
Yeah.. I had a feeling that you'd have to eventually account for how and where to store that many bottles. Thanks for the response!
Just watching your video again while sipping on the Uigeadail... Man for being a sherry guy, this scotch marries the sweet and smoke like no other. The Corryvreckan is good, just sharper and stronger in abv. The ugi is a very nice balance. Loving it.
....The Ugi is a nice balance. Scott
Scott, i like the way you say uigeadail :-)
this stuff is just amazing, full bodied, complex, the peatiness is not so pushy and it has that hint of sherry sweetness and friendliness no other ardbeg or laphroaig offers.
1:08 I think you got those mixed up
verbally yes!
Dude freaking drink sparkling water between drinks but really nothing is necessary...
I'd enjoy watching you guys a lot more if you didn't make so many mouth noises. What's up with that?
sorry Sam, sensitive microphone and all part of tasting!
Oog-a-dal
we've learned since this video!
I like both but my bottle of ARDBEG CORRYVRECKAN is noticeably better and deeper taste than my Ugy...............
i think in our blind peat shootouts the Corry did better too
Agree, but it needs to be dialed in. Liked it best, but only after letting it sit in glass for 15 minutes, then adding 3-4 drops of water.
If there is food in front of Bart he eats it. It's automatic.
no control
Corry, all day
nothing wrong with that.
Goddam oogey doll 😂😂
we know that now! haha
Octomore is A REAL BOMBBBBB
Very much so
Actually, I have been sipping on the heel of my bottle of Compass Box Lost Blend while watching... Which is a totally different experience :)
+foodquig ...yes it is.
Check it out if you get the chance! scott
Katelyn Brokaw dal not dale!
Captains WILL follow you now.. CORREY is a waste.. OOGGIE Deserves OSCARS...,an improvement to ARDBEG 10
It's oo-gee-dal not doll!
we're learning as we go Steve!
2:16 Haha!
smoke baby smoke!
@@ScotchTestDummies I actually considered getting both the Oogie and Corry until I saw your video, now I'm thinking the Oogie would be fun to compare to the Talisker and Lagavulin Distiller's Editions instead! Three sherry-finished peat monsters head-to-head 🤘
very nice, would be good indeed!
Ah okay, to take more flavour pult of the Spirit ?
+Paul Klimm ..thats' what he claims.😀
American PISTA salty with OOGGIE and ARGY 10
"oogey-doll"
Oogey boogey 😁
ARDBEG!!!!!!
Peat!!!!
maybe we should not have called it a "shootout"... just sayin.
that may have saved some conflict!
