      Buckin' Billy Ray Smith the manufacturers that have outboard clutches weren't really looking at the in the field serviceability like when a bar and chain gets stuck in a tree to be able to quickly swap the bar and chain and keep going unlike the models that the clutches are in board just my opinion

    I love simple genius things....using one of the steel chain guides as a bar slot cleaner and pitch scraper is a black chip move! I got my first Mcculloch prepped and ready to add to the working chainsaw collection this week, changed the worn out rim drive, cleaned the whole saw and now I have a Pro Mac 55 to try out as soon as the snow melts! I appreciate the lesson in how to outsmart the chain and rim drive ty for the video!

    love it when you show us your favorite ways to do things, doesnt mean its the best way or the quickest, or whatever. I just mean, here you are, a professional woodcutter, logger, etc, and you are showing us things that you have learned and experienced over the course of many many years of actually doing these things on a daily or weekly basis. Thank You. Here is to hoping that 2019 is a more productive and enjoyable year for all of us, me included. Be Kind.

    I was so pumped the day my PM 55 came in the mail. I got off work w/ about an hour of daylight left, never got to run the saw. I couldn't get the chain tight, couldn't get the adjuster lined up properly. The little trick of setting the adjuster up before putting the clutch cover on is the only way to do it. That first time running a mac was amazing, the sound the smell, the power. The torque these saws have is somethin else. Thanks for introducing me to the old macs and the axe building. I used a splitting maul for 20 years till I found this community, double bit now. Only bring the maul out for quarting big nasty rounds, all oak

      ..yes, but then the clutch and chainbrake band is buried down in the saw, which makes that harder to work on...there's a plus and a minus to every setup....

    I have a few Macs, I've always had problems with the issues you have covered, which have been a great help thanks! It's clear McCulloch never addressed the issues because my most modern Mac (ProMac 700) pictured, is still tight around the clutch housing! Apart from that though, they do cut eh? I love this channel! Please keep doing what you're doing, thanks!

    You have opened my mind to the possibility that McCulloch saws could be a good one to use. Growing up in Oregon we used primarily Homelite until the Huskies and Stihl came into their own in the later 90's. Mid-80's we made the switch to the 2100 Husky when you could still fill up a log truck around here with one tree...but I was never taught that the Mac's were a viable thing till I subbed ya.

  • @eddiedow3757

    I like my 371 husky because the clutch drive is on the outside of the bell. The newer 372 also put the adjuster screw on the side of cover. Which made it easier except with a wrap around handle. The 572 has the nuts attached to cover as well.
    You know your stuff by not getting the chain over tight. People fail to realize there is a internal bearing and by over tightening the chain adds more stress on that crank bearing

  • @chipjr10
    @chipjr10 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice tutorial Buckin'! We never used McCullough saws. I ran one a couple of times and the thumb oil-er, for me was tough to use. The "push in" instead of the "push down" like on our Lombard was much easier. My uncle had a old Homelite XL12 and that had the "push down" oil-er as well. Also, on the Lombard the bar tension-er was on the saw, not on the cover, so that made it a lot easier to put the bar back on as well. Stay safe my friend!

    Welcome New Subscribers!
    Funny thing, I was just thinking today 12/15 about asking for a demo on a right hand start saw. I just unboxed a 1-70 and looking at the bar nuts, I'm a little perplexed. The back nut is slightly under the starter recoil housing. I just spent the day cleaning up the 404 chain. It was rusty and gunked up as heck. Used an old paint tray, PB Blast, and a brass brush cleaning up the chain. I also blew out as much gunk from the power head and then used a small screwdriver to scrape off as much gunk as I could. Tomorrow, I'll put it in an aluminum turkey pan and use some Purple power and a spray bottle of water to clean it up some more. Then I'll attempt to start to disassemble it for final cleaning. I'll try to post some pics to Buckin'Stock 2018 facebook group.
