I started having occasional palpitations when I turned 40. It started as a few episodes a year, then became every month, then every week, then every day, until it became multiple times a day getting stronger and stronger. I was diagnosed with preventricular contractions, but they found absolutely nothing wrong with my heart. It was always worse just prior to or during my cycle. One doctor suggested cutting out all stimulants, so I took a break from caffeine. I was very surprised to see my palpitations completely disappear, and I started sleeping like a teenager again. I had all the other perimenopause symptoms as well, and have since started taking birth control pills. Feeling a lot better now.

THANK YOU!!! I've had two trips to the ER one on Christmas and one just a week ago with heart palpitations that turned out to be benign. I'd been able to piece together that both of these did partner with alcohol consumption, (I've almost kicked it completely to the curb but not entirely) and I've also noticed an uptick in the palpitations every month 1 week before my period, so I was figuring it out based on my own personal observations that it had something to do with my hormones. Now after getting labs back, seeing my FSH is 99 and not having a period for 2 months it confirmed to me these were perimenopausal symptoms. You have now validated what I desperately needed to hear. What I am extremely disappointed in is BOTH my female PCP and gynecologist had no idea about any of this, aren't educated on HRT and can barely give me suggestions for places to go which is understandable from my PCP but not my gynecologist. I will be locating providers from your website. How in the world did we make it to 2023 and are letting half our population just walk on off the cliff at 45 years young without so much as an encouraging pat on the back. Baffling. It appears Gen X ladies are starting a menopause revolution because this shit is for real! Thank God for you!!! Adding: I'm 46 btw.

I am having heart palpitations as I watch this video. Last week I was in the ER with them. I went through all the testing and went home with a heart monitor. Everything checked out fine. I few years ago I was always running in and out of the hospital for this. They would do blood work, EKG and heart x-rays. Everything was always perfect. I mean I was in there ALL THE TIME. No exaggeration. They tried to say I had anxiety. Come to find out my hormones were Imbalanced and that causes heart palpitations. I haven’t been back to see them since. No one told me. I started to pay attention to my body and realized they came right before my period and sometimes when my period was ending.

I had scary, sudden, breath-catching heart palpitations for YEARS and not one doctor, not my female PCP, gynecologist, or cardiologist mentioned that this was a symptom of peri menopause. NEVER! I had the hot flashes, insomnia, lethargy, depression, joint aches, lack of libido, hair loss, you name it and no one mentioned HRT as an option. Anti depressants and anti anxiety meds were offered. I was told to loose weight, get better sleep, deal with my anxiety, seek therapy but never was I looked at as a woman entering her menopausal years. It was not until I say Amanda Theibe and read her book Menopachalypse that it all made sense. Last May I started HRT and I can count on one had the number of sleepless nights I have had, heart palpitations are gone, hot flashes gone. All is not perfect, however. I have started to bleed again, had a polypectomy - we are trying a lower dose of estrogen to stop the bleeding. It is a trade off, true, but given how miserable I felt before, it is much more livable.

It drives me nuts! Obviously, it is not life-threatening or I would be dead, but it sure gets stressful sometimes! I am 49 been dizzy 😢and off balance. At times my heart ❤️ rate would be 150/160/175. I would start shaking with dizziness/ weakness/ can’t walk without feeling faint. I went to 3 cardiologist. Went to the hospital 3 times by ambulance. I was told it’s probably menopause or Anxiety. Well few days ago I was having the same symptoms ambulance 🚑 was called. The EMS caught what was really happening. It’s call SVT. I will need to have a cardiac ablation soon to correct this. So not every palpitation is menopause. SVT is hard to catch because the episodes can last for 10/ 15/20 minutes. Before I get the doctors or hospital I would be gone. And ER doctors would send me home with Xanax which I never took. I knew something was wrong. I couldn’t function as my self for over 1 year. Please get it checked out.

Thank you for this video. I’m 49, in perimenopause confirmed with lab work. I was in the ED 2 times for waking up in the middle of the night not feeling “right” and my HR spiked to 160s. My usual resting HR is in the 50s. So, it’s very scary. All testing was negative for ischemic cardiac condition- ekg, ECHO, Holter, stress tests, troponins, d-dimer, all normal. The cardiologist said while my HR was high for a brief period, the rhythm was not abnormal and offered no other info/solutions. I asked my OBGyn if it could be related to perimenopause, she was very quick and stern to say no. I did not like the way she responded. I have had all together 4 of these episodes and it’s scary. I had an episode this morning. I don’t drink coffee much, but had had some yesterday morning and a medium cup over the weekend. I had a couple glasses of wine with dinner last night. I have increased my running to train for a marathon. So I did run yesterday and the day before. I wonder if all those factors contributed to my waking up this morning with the high HR. It lasts for like a minute or less. The heart palpitations you speak of, can they go as high as into the 160s bpm??? Thanks. It’s just very nerve wracking.

I am 47, I started having a sudden rapid heartbeat, pounding in my chest like I was exercising. This started about two years ago and have got increasingly worse. I have had a heart monitor twice both have picked up on tachycardia as well the doctor did not recommend medication. I also did the treadmill stress test which was normal. Now I am having episodes when I am sitting in resting and relaxed, my heart rate will go from mid-80s to over 120, pounding in my chest. I feel like I can't breathe, my vision gets very strange and I have to focus on my breathing to even calm down. My Palms get sweaty. This happened to me a few days ago even at the hairdresser oh, it was so embarrassing. I have been to the emergency room with these symptoms, they say it's anxiety. I do all the things you mentioned. Yoga, bearing down, cough- etc. One other thing that really helps is MAGNESIUM. I take magnesium taurate everyday and it can stop the ectopic beats when you notice you're having a run of them. I ended up going on metropolol but I also started having SVT again with perimenopause. One thing I want to ask and I hope someone knows lol, once we make it thru to the other side of menopause- does this crap go away?! I. mean I'm 5 yrs in with peri already. I started to pay attention to my body and realized they came right before my period and sometimes when my period was ending.

same here, I am trying to figure it out for a year now, fresh 46y old, first they said in ER it is all from stress/panic attack+ that it is high blood pressure i had around 200/100+ palpitations, i took pills/antidepressants/anti anxiety for 6 months, didnt help, betablockers - metaprolol for Hyeprtension and high pulse - this helped to reduce it to 2-3 episodes a month now, so it is better but still.... cardiologist said heart looks completely normal and it is not the cause of palpitations, all blood tests came out normal except a bit of high insuline, but glucose fine, hormonal profile been done by gynecologist randomly 2 times- all normal, it happens to me ONLY during night, cca 1-1.5 hour after I fell asleep, i went for sleep apnea examination- negative, I also suffer from Hashimoto hypotyreosis for 20 years, but results are always stable, the only thing I found out after a year is that coffeine, alcohol and sugar especially if i eat somethiing sweet before bedtime triggers the heart palpitations at night or make them worse and more intense so I quit all coffeine drinks - no coffee, cola, tea, I completely quit drinking alcohol, and now I am trying to eat less sugar in my all day diet, my new DR. is suspicious that it IS hormone related but he thinks it is something cortisol/adrenalin/noradrenalin related, waiting for new episode to get my blood checked for these, we will see, I cant give up I wanna figure it out to live normal life again...if you made some progress and was diagnosed with something pls share here, thank you

I'm rather frustrated right now. Many years ago this started for me. May have been about 36 or so....?? No one mentioned menopause symptoms ever. The arrhythmia did however become noticeable then when I had my gallbladder taken out. I am taking metoprolol tartrate 25 mg 2 times per day. So I am wondering if i should really look into this and go off the metoprolol and try the prenatal vitamins/ etc. I have recently started a supplement for menopause, but it is more difficult for me to figure out due to the arrhythmia. I'd love it if you could respond to this with any suggestions/ideas for me.

I wanted to comment on something SO interesting that I just learned on one of your podcasts, for the benefit of all viewers here but also to thank you! I found it FASCINATING that some providers use labs to "diagnose" menopause, instead of the commonly heard "12 months since the LMP." Does this mean that women who are bleeding and who are known to have fibroids, polyps, etc. but whose FSH is really high and whose estrogen is really low are actually menopausal? I'm thinking about the implications of this in terms of the treatment "window," providers' openness to HT, and all kinds of other things. Plus, on a personal level, it's fascinating to think about my menopause journey and evolving symptoms in terms of the years I had super high FSH and low estrogen but hadn't stopped bleeding altogether. Have I been in meno longer than I thought... hmm... just so interesting. I bet other women would be similarly intrigued! Thank you for your incredible content. The podcasts have been lifesaving and I'm looking into the master class!

So I broke it in half. I talked to my doctor about it. I also had a 3 day continuous heart monitor on before I started the medication just to make sure it was palpitations and not a dangerous heart rhythm, which the monitor results said it was not.

What about heart palpitations before your period (during pms), that started at the begining of your 30's?
I don't think it's all related to premenopause or menopause... and if I remember correctly, the estrogene levels drop also after ovulation.
How can I make it stop?
It seems like only trying to breath + rest well + avoid being in the heat + avoid caffein + eat complex carbs + work from home - helps to kind of get this to stop from happening, or happen less.
If I skip one of the above, and eat suger/not eat first thing in the morning/be in the heat etc. - I get these heart palpitations and panic attacks, and it really messes up my life.

I'm very sorry to hear that. It makes life so much harder, especially when your surroundings don't get it and you can't get the rest and consideration to the extant that you need.
If you took all the necessary tests and were found to have panic attacks, then I highly recommend the following:
      1) pranayama yoga breathing **daily**, as much as you can. Even if 7 minutes each time during the day. Only if you are consistent do they help.
      2) CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) - I have started this technique about a month ago, after having too many panic attacks, and ever since I didn't have any at all! Hopefully, it will continue this way.
      3) Eat on regular hours healthy food, and carbs need to be balanced and complex. The sugar changes in your blood stream really take an effect.
      4) Try to get enough sleep, preferably on regular times, though for me it seems to also help to get a small nap if I can.
      5) Strech, go out on a walk in the sun or close to nature. Try to find things that ground you in the here and now, that connect you to the world, whether when you have a panic attack or as a preventative action.
      6) If you allow ypur panic attacks to stop you from doing things you love or must do (like meet with friends or go to work), then expose yourself gradually to it, but don't let that stop you, otherwise it will become worse, as ypu will be conditioning yourself to it. Accept the fact that you might get a panic attack on the way there, but also believe that nothing will happen, and of it does then you will do your breathing techniques, talk to someone and focus on your gravity and phusical sensations, rather than on your heart beat and anxiety. This has happened to me when I was alone and when I was in a taxi on an open road, and even though it was hellish - I accepted it, took deep breaths, told myself I was ok and it's just a panic attack, and got the satisfaction of overcoming it myself, which always serves me as a reminder that it is nothing serious and only an uncomfortable sensation that will pass. The less I was affraid of it, the less worse it got and the less occurances.
Finding something that gives you meaning or makes you happy can also help. You basically need to teach your body to calm down and that you will be fine, which means you work on calming it - on one hand, and giving yourself permission to be happy, on the other hand.
Cooling ypurself down with cold water or ice can also help a lot.
      Unlearning stress, basically.
It's not an easy task, but I am following the advice of others who had that problem as well.

I tend to get heart flutters/ palpitations about a week before my period begins... but only for a few days. On this pill, it has been happening daily for weeks with no apparent trigger. Stopping the pill has helped, but hasn't eliminated the problem.
I've cut out caffeine and alcohol and don't overdo it with exercise, because I'm so scared of the flutters.
I take magnesium daily, try to keep my electrolytes and macros balanced, and drink ~75+ oz of h2o/ day.

Thank you so much! I was doing all of the stuff to exacerbate my symptoms at least once a month. Excessive coffee, extreme exercise and weight lifting ( like in my 20s), etc. I’m going to establish a baseline for changes and see if it helps, if not HRT may be the way to go. Thank you.
