Uncensored you say? 👀
You forgot King of Demons - Majyūō. Imperdoável!! :)
Eu poderia também lembrar o Youkai Douchuuki - Shadowland do PC Engine, Warlock do SNES e Mega Drive, Franskenstein do Mega Drive, mas o mais importante, Dead of the Brain 1 and 2 no PC Engine CD.
Isso porque tem muito mais coisa ainda que dá pra explorar :) Tem jogo japones de terror de baciada :)
@@TheTenthArt
D no Shokutaku, Enemy Zero and Doctor Hauzer.
haha yep, uncensored, but it's only like 3 seconds xD
I clearly remember the day I first played Aliens; it was for my birthday in 1991 and I was blown away by it... I couldn't stop thinking about the game and feeling frustrated because the arcade where I found the cabinet was located in a "special" place I could go rarely (you know, you only have a birthday per year).
Oh man. Well at least we now have emulation
Showbiz was awesome...
I used to play aliens at the local wal mart back in 89-90. Man those were the good ol days. Department stores had arcade machines and even gas stations had them!
As a kid, I played Aliens all the time at a flea market near the house. Just 4-5 years ago, came across a cabinet and finally got to beat the damn game.
I love how you shine a light on many lesser known titles. Even if you spend only two or three minutes talking about a game, you still do a great job summarizing what makes each one so unique! Excellent job as always.
Thank you! I try ^^
Oh god....Elvira 2. That game has haunted me for decades. Between that maze that is the underground warrens, how easily you can hard lock yourself out of winning, and the loads of instant death traps, I still haven't bested it.
hah yeah, those games were HARD
Stika, you never cease to make great humor
"Elvira's, uhhh..movement"
Great video, thank you!
hehe :P
The only super nintendo game I've played that actually scared me was super metroid when I was a kid. Me and my cousin played through it together. We were genuinely freaked out playing through the game being lost never knowing when the next save room would come or what was going to be around the next corner or through the next door. The first time we encountered the fake metroids in maridia or going through the wrecked ship were terrifying as kids.
Oh the first few hours in super metroid are the stuff of survival horror games.
I still have the game for my SNES, I really should play it once again after so many years.
Play Zombies Ate My Neighbors
@@AltairEgo1 I remember the giant toddler you have to fight against, lol
@@Raven_Moon777 ha ha ha, that baby was a pain in the ass. I remember killing him with bazookas and then he turned back into a normal baby you save 😂
The giant spider was the hardest. He was the last boss. That made the baby seem like a legit toddler by comparison lol
Not only was the time limits in Nosferatu's levels unfair at times, but you have to complete the game quickly to get the better ending. I was happy enough just beating this game. It was enjoyable, though.
yeah, those time limits are brutal
I am obsessed with the genesis scooby doo game. Played it a ton as a kid and recently beat it again lately. Needs more scenarios but the limitations of the genesis are fine. Imagine if they made a modern one like Thimbleweed park
If you like the Genesis scooby doo game ,you can check out the Game Boy Color scooby doo game too. That one's also a point and click adventure
Thanks for the compilation I didn't know about Gabriel Knight and Laplace deamon.
Hope you'll enjoy them :D
16-bit was the peak of pixel art.
yeah it really was incredible.
I really appreciate you playing past the first ten minutes, playing a good chunk of gameplay & music that isn't just a tutorial level, and passionately giving us a full picture for each game. I subbed!
Thank you ^^
I also loves the 7th Guest and The 11th Hour-games. These were mostly puzzle games, but the setting was very good and the music was exellent.
Oh yeah Those are awesome too. I think I'd save them for a 32-bit video though. Not sure, they're kind in between 16-bit and 32-bit lol
i'm excited to get 16-bit scared !! 😁
hehe :D
Nosferatu is one game I found just playing SNES roms on a whim and played it to the end. The fact the protagonist ventures through stages, defeating monsters with his fists and feet and traversing traps and dungeons to save his girlfriend.... MANLY
haha
I never played any of these games but this video was really captivating! Pretty cool you were in the credits for the Gabriel Knight remake!
hehe thank you ^^
This is a great video and I really enjoyed seeing the retro graphics from my childhood, as well as the fun narration. Thank you for the post!
Glad you liked it! :D
Tava empolgado por esse vídeo! Obrigado pelo conteúdo, St1ka!
Espero que tenha gostado ^^
Was not expecting to see an awesome 16-bit music video.
Oh that's just the trailer. The actual video comes out this Thursday ^^
I'm a simple man; I see Laplace no Ma, I like.
I play it annually every October to celebrate Halloween. Just finished my third playthrough and it was just as good as the first two times.
Top-tier horror game and a solid RPG overall.
it's such a cool game. I need to try the other versions too
For arcade, Beast Busters deserves a mention. An Operation Wolf clone with the atmosphere of Splatterhouse.
That’s an excellent mention. I remembered the game but couldn’t remember the name.
oooh I'll check it out
and the ending is vey macabre and let to a cliffhanger that was never solved
if you don't count the sequels (which you really shouldn't, they were terrible)
Great video, you opened my eyes on very interesting games. I'm glad that I've Subscribed
Thank you! :D
this video is SO GOOD! we share so many of the same opinions on these, and i think you chose the best ones, especially thank you for covering the Horrorsoft games! also thank you for calling Clocktower out on being slow, it really is but no one mentions it!
Haha glad I could help!
I love this feature for youtube
I hate thinking there's a new video I can't watch yet
Im so stoked for this one!
Hope you'll enjoy it ^^
As usual, great video! The first Elvira game looks so good! That pixel art really is stunning. And it's interesting enough I think, the combat seems like an archaic version of the fighting mechanic in Crossed Swords for the NeoGeo.
thank you! Glad you liked the video :D
in dos version you could just see which side it was going to be, making it mostly irrelevant what weapon you had for most combat once you figured it out. also this made the couple of combat encounters that you can't win kinda crappy! it was a fun explore a castle game though.
Great video St1ka! You covered a lot of games that are new to me. It's nice to see such a variety outside of the usual survival horror titles. Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it ^^
I absolutely loved the Elvira game when I was a kid. The athmosphere of this game was so incredible, I never experienced anything like this before. I can remember all the different death scenes and the fights against the monsters and skeletons from the tombs. Unfortunately I never finished the game, because it was quite difficult and back then you couldn't just look it up on the internet.
Oh yeah, the game is brutally difficult. You pretty much need a guide to get anywhere.
This is truly a nice list of horror games, damn some of them I've never seen anywhere. Great job!
Thank you! I try! ^^
Thats awesome your part of game developments, I did not know that. Thanks for the video.
glad you enjoyed it! :D
I was crazy waiting this video!
Hope you enjoyed the video ^^
Thanks for another great roundup. I'd love to hear what you thought of dark seed!
love the video, love your enthusiasm!
Thank you ^^
That's really amazing video! Thank you for your hard work!!! Spasibo!🥰🥰🥰
Thank you I try ^^
I'm really loving these videos on your channel; so happy I stumbled across it!
Some more retro horror games from my childhood that come to mind are Monster Bash, Hugo's House of Horrors. Monster Bash recently got a HD remaster for steam which is really cool.
oooh those are some good ones! I'll be sure to keep them in mind. Though for 2024, the halloween video will be about 32-bit games (I want to avoid the obvious ones like resident evil and silent hill though)
@@st1ka I look forward to it!! from that era I highly rate Haunting Ground, Baroque - Yuganda Mousou, & Sentinel Returns. and Kuon.
Heck yeah! :D@@torgo_
Nice one bro, good few of these I haven't heard of.
Glad you liked it ^^
Great video! I remember playing the first Elvira and I could never beat it because I just couldn't find a certain herb in a herb garden and gave up after pixel hunting for ages! XD
yeah, the Elvira games are HARD
WOW That Elvira game is AMAZING!!
right?! :D
Great video. I'll have to check some of these games out! :)
Hope you'll enjoy them ^^
Great video. Definitely adding a few to by backlog.
glad I could help! ^^
To me Splaterhouse is my all time favorite horror games ever. Who doesn't want a Jason Vorhees lookalike to go around beating up monsters, and splatter their brains out with his fist. I mean this is the guy who have the guts to punch a knife and other pieces of furniture. All three of those games are my favorite, but if I have to pick one of them. I pick the third one cause of it's amazing FMV cutscenes, and that was a 16-bit Sega console.
It's pretty amazing that how back in the 90s never hold back with horror games like this. I mean wow Elvira and Wax Work are those games with amazing body horror imagery. These are some of the amazing list of horror games I've ever seen. Have a spooktacular Halloween St1ka.
The Splatterhouse series is so good
Great video I'm glad TH-cam recommended your videos
hehe thank you! If you feel you might miss on my videos, you can always ring that bell icon ^^
@@st1ka just did 👍
Thank you ^^
It is worth noting Demon’s World/Horror Story was released as a bonus game with Zero Fire (a pack of Zero Wing and Hellfire) as part of the M2 Shot Triggers collection.
Oh Interesting. I actually own that collection but haven't opened it yet
Great video thanks my dude. I didn’t know about the Scooby doo game. I think that will be great to play with my daughter. Thanks again 😎👍🏼
hope you enjoy it! :D
Great video! Laplace no Ma looks really interesting. One of my favorite 16-bit horror themed games is Majyuuou for Super Famicom.
oooh thank you for the recomendation
Thanks for making this video. I see several games here i want to try. The Elvira game for sure. I wish i could have played it when it came out.
Great video! thank you!
Thank you :D
Excellent recommedations.
Thank you! :D
Thanks for showing relatively unknown games in the video instead of going through the usual suspects.
I try to keep it interesting ^^
Great selection of games! I haven’t heard of half of them!
Glad to hear it ^^
Clock tower did get a rom hack called clock tower deluxe it adds more content most from the ps1 port also clock tower did also has a wonderswan port only in Japan
Oh wow I didn't know about that romhack
I had no idea how good Jon Tron was with his Malkovich character until I stumbled upon this video. It’s perfection. I swear I thought it was Jon doing the voiceover.
John wishes he could do my voice
Great video thx!
Glad you enjoyed it ^^
This has become one of my "go to bed" videos. You are entertaining and informative. I wish you all the best and keep that obscure video game knowledge coming.
A few more honorable mentions:
1. Lurking Horror by Infocom
2. Alone in the Dark by Infogrames
3. Colonel’s Bequest by Sierra
4. I have no moth and I must scream by Cyberdreams
The Splatterhous on the X-box 360 was pretty fun too. Too bad it ended on a cliffhanger. Get to hear Jim Cummings's Nega Duck as the mask though.
That man is a treasure.
I honestly really enjoyed the remake. It deserves more love
one of my first ps3 platinum trophies was of that game (the ps3 version and not the 360 version obviously)
@Erlisch1337 oh nice. I never got the platinum trophy. I can't remember why though
awesome stuff! Some of the art in the PC games is seriously metal
right?! :D
Damn that Genesis scooby doo game will be a blast on my Megadrive ! That snes game also looks really intriguing ! Thanks a lot, I would never have discovered them without this vid ! :)
it's such a cool game! :D
Fantastic video. I should really load up some of these games on my MiSTer and give them a spin.
hope you'll enjoy it
Great video! I want to check out Gabriel Knight and Laplace no Maou for sure.
Hope you'll enjoy it! :D
another great video from st1ka. I had the pleasure to play scooby doo back in the day but didnt know english. So now I am waiting for the right time to play it again with my friends.
I was never much into gore, but splatterhouse felt a bit too much for the 11 y-o me. Today I think its a materpiece, specially the intros.
yep they're really cool games :D
Games that should be included in Part 2:
- *Atmosfear* (SNES)
- *Ghost Sweeper Mikami* (SNES)
- *Mystical Fighter* (Genesis)
- *Gegege no Kitaro* (GBA)
- *Alien VS Predator* (Arcade)
- *Alien³: The Gun* (Arcade)
- *Metamoqester* (Arcade)
- *Monster Maulers* (Arcade)
- *Shadowland* (Arcade)
- *The Real Ghostbusters* (Arcade)
- *Kabuki-Z* (Arcade)
Ooh thank you for the recommendations!
Good video, seeing Clock Tower i remember of SOS for Snes and i think that launched in all country.
Clock Tower is SO cool
I used to think the digitized cutscenes in Splatterhouse 3 were genuinely creepy back in the day... honestly they still kind of are due in part to the off-putting music.
Yep it works really well
Dude I absolute root for you. Your view speed is up so nice now.
Aww thank you. Yeah I'm so glad that the videos have been doing well. I want people to learn about lesser known games
@@st1ka Dude you have reminded me of so many old games I had forgotten and then showed some gems I had never even heard of. I'm ancient as fuck my dude.
Haha thank you! I try ^^
Love your list, worth to wait ... TNBC added in my list .. thanks ..
Maybe retro metroidvania list for next video ? 😅
Oooh I like that idea actually
Thank you for including 16-bit PC games on this list. It seems like early PC gaming is totally ignored outside of Europe, as if nothing existed before DOOM, so it's refreshing to see stuff like DOS and Amiga games on here.
Anytime:D
Great content!
Thank you ^^
Elvira Mistress of the Dark one is basically a Survival Horror game because there are enemies that can follow you through doors. It does not feel like an RPG because you only need specific items to beat it and health. I still think is a great game today.
Yep kinda. Sorta like an early prototypical verion of the genre
Superb video! I especially like the time taken to go through each splatterhouse game! I didn't realise there was a 3rd game and I found out about it only a year ago. This definitely should have got a uk release. I would love to see them release them all in a hd collection or something with other options and revisions to them. Imagine a limited run release with a statue of jason haha.
There are two games I would have liked to have added to this and the first would be Decap Attack, just for the fact that it was changed from a really colourful happy platformer to have this undead/horror theme for the west, and one I would personally add would be snatcher - not a horror themed game but it has that same edge as horror point and click adventures as it is a text adventure which is basically a rip off of blade runner, but it has that violent pixel art similar to the elvira games where you see a dead body or the "snatchers" reveal themselves, it is very tense stuff when you get into it!
Anyways loved this video I hope you make more!
I gotta admit, I didn't think of Snatcher but it does fit
Nice video… some games I was not aware of… something about 8 and 16 bit horror that caused one more intense scared feelings than many modern games (except the Necromorphs, that would scare me
Yeah there's something cool and different about old school pixel art horror
I know it’s not a horror game per se but Ecco the Dolphin on Genesis is one of the most unsettling games I’ve ever played. Despite the beautiful graphics the sound design and music make for an intense experience, particularly toward the end when you’re fighting literal Aliens.
Y'know, I never actually played much of Echo the Dolphin I really should
@@st1ka I mean don't get me wrong; it's one of my favorite games despite how frustrating it can be. To this day there's nothing quite like it. If you want a slightly more forgiving experience the Sega CD version is really good too.
@@saltysteved3831 I actually do own the Sega CD version so yeah, I'd probably play that ^_^
That Scooby-Doo game I gotta try out!
Some really nice recommendations here with a lot of variety in genres.
Splatterhouse is the one people gotta try out if they haven't yet
Heck yeah
Last week I got into the Amiga side scrolling Elvira game. I liked the feel of Elvira’s high jumping and dagger throwing.
I still need to play that one
Honorable mention for Dark Seed. A great point and click horror with art from H.R. Giger. Never heard of Laplace no Ma but from your description of it, it sounds a lot like Darkest Dungeon and predates it by over 20 years. It also has the same publisher as Clock Tower.
Ah yeah I considered doing Dark Seed too, maybe next year
Ehh, I tried La Place No Ma when I was on my kick to play every translated RPG I missed out on. It didn't last long. Pretty solid list including one or two I haven't played. It's cool to see these throwbacks because 16 bit games still have beauty and fun even this late in the world. Plus...lol. the music!
I try to give an original list ^^
Did not know about the Elvira games. The artwork is impressive.😮
right?! It's so cool!
wonderful stuff
Thank you! Glad you liked it :D
There's a patch for SNES Clock Tower that actually adds SNES Mouse support to the game, for the full point-and-click adventure experience!
oooh I did not know that
That last game on the list seems really cool! I've gotta see if I can get the patch to work on ZSNES.
Great video but don't forget the arcade family favorite Chiller! I played it once in an arcade for a few minutes and have never been able to get the atrocities I committed that evening out of my head...
haha yeah, Chiller is a classic! :D
I love these Halloween videos man
Thank you! Year, I plan on making these a yearly thing :D
Night Slashers for the arcade is also a good one to check out. A gory brawler!
Oh I was going to include that game and then I noticed the arcade system is actually 32-bit
So I'll be saving it for next year
I love Borat's video game reviews. Very nice! 👍
Borat? Where?
Great video
thank you! :D
I feel compelled to mention there’s a Total Conversion for Splatterhouse using the Doom engine.
Yes, an FPS Splatterhouse. Covers all the major locations (the mansion is absolutely insane), weapons & enemies. Well worth checking out 👌
Oh wow, that sounds incredible haha
I recently found your channel and I have to say that you make some quality content! I’m even debating picking up Scooby Doo for my Mega Drive 😂 I’ll check out your release of Gabriel Knight on Steam as well!
aww thank you! Hope you enjoy the video
@@st1ka you’re welcome 😊 you manage to pick games I’ve never heard of. Sadly that Scooby Doo game wasn’t released in PAL so I’ll have to use my everdrive.
Thank you :D
the elvira 2 title screen is the most 90s thing i've ever seen :D
haha agreed! :D
From what I remember, Elvira 2 was split into three sections: the adventure section in the house, the combat section in the mines, and the one that does both in the catacombs.
Since you gain experience for solving puzzles too, it’s recommended to play the game in the order above to have the best chance for survival against the bugs and skeletons. (There’s definitely more battles once you get to the catacombs.)
Yeah that's true ^^
I LOVE the house section. Wish all the sections were in the more adventure puzzle style like it. The combat is easily the weakest point of those games....and they put in waaaay too many enemies
Yep the house section is definitely the most memorable
I'm glad included some Amiga games 🤘🏻
I try to cover a wide range of systems! :)
Good list, I enjoyed the Elvira Games a lot and to be fair I was mostly a fan of the second one. The thing I liked about Elvira 2 was being able to turn nearly anything into spells, though you could stonewall yourself doing that if you did that to certain key items. I felt the graphical change to most of it was largely because it was a haunted movie set, rather than an actual haunted location, and it seemed the spirits involved were supposed to be animating movie stuff, so I assumed making it that goofy was intentional.
I was a little surprised that "Realms Of The Haunting" and "Legacy: Realm Of Terror" didn't make the list if Elvira did.
While goofy, and from the Dreamcast era/3DO era I think Illbleed (despite it being a mess) and/or Killing Time (a cult classic, and the flagship title for the 3DO) would have been big editions to the list. While to be fair Illbleed is lost to time as I don't think it was ever ported to anything (probably for good reason), Killing Time has seen PC ports, that said the big gimmick of "Full Motion Video" being used for some things did not age well, though it was pretty spectacular in the context of the time.
I also did note with the mention of some obscure SNES titles that "Sweet Home" wasn't mentioned, when that was to many considered to be the freakiest game of all time, and has been getting Americanized versions for a very long time as far as I know.
Sweet home was for the nes/famicom, not for the snes. Also, this video is about 16- bit games, that’s why probably some of the games you mention (like killing time) aren’t in the list.
@@dieinfire920 He ,mentioned numerous PC/Amiga games such as Elvira and Waxworks, so I don't think it was intended to be console exclusive.
I noticed afterwards that he has an 8 bit list in another video, but I haven't seen it yet, so perhaps Sweet Home would have fit better there.
Not trying to complain too much, I know no list can ever be exhaustive as no one plays or is aware of everything, nor can a list be endless. I just thought those were some good ones worth mentioning.
I have long felt "Legacy: Realm Of Terror" in particular never got the credit it deserved. "Realms Of The Haunting" had a lot of issues, but it covered a lot of the same territory as Elvira, and to be fair I have never seen anything else quite like it. Surprisingly those two seem to be missing from almost every list of horror games, which is why I went out of my way to mention them, as I know both had reasonable followings for their time. That said "Legacy: Realm Of Terror" was a pretty hard game, especially early on, so to be fair part of the problem might be that only extremely persistent gamers got to the parts where it really shined. I know a lot of people at that time who played it were incredibly frustrated over the way you had to dodge and avoid zombies, and the beginning favored very defensively built characters for that reason as there was pretty much no way to just kill them all like people at the time often wanted to do.
@@jeremyrichard2722 of course is not “console exclusive” because he also put in the video many arcade games.
But as you also mentioned, the main reason sweet home wasn’t in the video, is because it’s a 8-bit game, not a 16-bit game which is what this video is about.
Honestly, I'd probably consider realms of the haunting closer to 32-bit. It's a little hard to differentiate with Computers.
With that said, I didn't mention sweet home because the game is 8-bit, not 16-bit.
I mentioned sweet home in last year's 8-bit horror video :)
@@st1ka realms of haunting is would definitely be 32 bit on pc.
amiga elvira works on stuff marketed as 16 bit, good enough.
You worked on the remake of Gabriel Knight? I loved that!
Your review of the Scooby Doo game was thought provoking(10:52). I never thought about what video game format should be chosen for a certain adaptation of a show or movie. You are correct that the Scooby Doo show perfectly transitions into a point and click game. Perhaps a visual novel format could be good way to make a Scooby Doo game as well.
oh yeah a visual novel would also fit the show really well
In the Splatterhouse 3 game you can beat enemies quickly by grabbing them and using the headbutt attack (strangle attack if transformed), they make a lot of damage and they also work very well with bosses.
Daggerfall, the second Elder Scrolls game, is quite spooky compared with the rest of the series, specially with the music in the dungeons and the sound effects.
aah thank you for that
Man, that Elvira game calls me. And its time to finish Nosferatu for the gazillionth time.
Excellent video man, first timer in this channel, definitely dropping a sub!
Btw, Ushio to Tora has a very recent anime, 2015. Its pure, unadulterated hype (The 1st op is fire), you should definitely check it out, as its regarded by some as an overlooked titan in the industry.
I'll have to check out that anime. Glad you liked the video xD
The Gabriel Knight remake was great. You should be proud to have worked on it.
aww thank you!
Lista espectacular! Nunca tinha ouvido falar do Nosferatu! Plataformas de "Prince of Persia" com combate de "Beat 'em up"? Bora lá!
haha, espero que gostes
Ushio and Tora! That's a great series!
definitely need to check out the anime
@@st1ka Go with the 90's OVA first. The 2010's series goes through to the end of the manga series, but it really doesn't capture the heart/feel of the manga of it. I'm not sure why.
@@sleepingkirby sounds good!
That Elvira game is freakin B to the A! There is so many obscure old DOS computer games out there that were so awesome!
Right?! :D
Amazing games!!
yeah I think it's a good, varied list ^^
5:05 this is piece of art :3
xD
as a playtester for the translation patch of Laplace's Demon, I really hope more people discover and enjoy this gem. So risking my sanity playing it over and over may be worth it! :P
thank you for your work in the translation ^_^
