I love how you shine a light on many lesser known titles. Even if you spend only two or three minutes talking about a game, you still do a great job summarizing what makes each one so unique! Excellent job as always.
I clearly remember the day I first played Aliens; it was for my birthday in 1991 and I was blown away by it... I couldn't stop thinking about the game and feeling frustrated because the arcade where I found the cabinet was located in a "special" place I could go rarely (you know, you only have a birthday per year).
I used to play aliens at the local wal mart back in 89-90. Man those were the good ol days. Department stores had arcade machines and even gas stations had them!
As a kid, I played Aliens all the time at a flea market near the house. Just 4-5 years ago, came across a cabinet and finally got to beat the damn game.

Not only was the time limits in Nosferatu's levels unfair at times, but you have to complete the game quickly to get the better ending. I was happy enough just beating this game. It was enjoyable, though.
The only super nintendo game I've played that actually scared me was super metroid when I was a kid. Me and my cousin played through it together. Your review of the Scooby Doo game was thought provoking(10:52). I never thought about what video game format should be chosen for a certain adaptation of a show or movie. You are correct that the Scooby Doo show perfectly transitions into a point and click game. Perhaps a visual novel format could be good way to make a Scooby Doo game as well.
Games that should be included in Part 2: - *Atmosfear* (SNES) - *Ghost Sweeper Mikami* (SNES) - *Mystical Fighter* (Genesis) - *Gegege no Kitaro* (GBA) - *Alien VS Predator* (Arcade) - *Alien³: The Gun* (Arcade) - *Metamoqester* (Arcade) - *Monster Maulers* (Arcade) - *Shadowland* (Arcade) - *The Real Ghostbusters* (Arcade) - *Kabuki-Z* (Arcade)
Ha! Just played that Scooby game last month. I was able to beat the carnival as a kid, but only made it halfway through the hotel. Even as an adult, had to look up two clues where I was stumped.
@@st1ka Go with the 90's OVA first. The 2010's series goes through to the end of the manga series, but it really doesn't capture the heart/feel of the manga of it. I'm not sure why.
as a playtester for the translation patch of Laplace's Demon, I really hope more people discover and enjoy this gem. So risking my sanity playing it over and over may be worth it! :P
The Vampire staking in the Elvira game is so violently visceral, not so much for the violence but the realistic point of view from the player. I wonder why this isn't done so much today.
Great video but don't forget the arcade family favorite Chiller! I played it once in an arcade for a few minutes and have never been able to get the atrocities I committed that evening out of my head...
another great video from st1ka. I had the pleasure to play scooby doo back in the day but didnt know english. So now I am waiting for the right time to play it again with my friends. I was never much into gore, but splatterhouse felt a bit too much for the 11 y-o me. Today I think its a materpiece, specially the intros.
From what I remember, Elvira 2 was split into three sections: the adventure section in the house, the combat section in the mines, and the one that does both in the catacombs. Since you gain experience for solving puzzles too, it’s recommended to play the game in the order above to have the best chance for survival against the bugs and skeletons. (There’s definitely more battles once you get to the catacombs.)
I LOVE the house section. Wish all the sections were in the more adventure puzzle style like it. The combat is easily the weakest point of those games....and they put in waaaay too many enemies
I love Splatterhouse 3, everything from the graphics, music, and EXTREMELY crunchy sound effects are so well-done. I know I should try Clock Tower one of these days, but point and click games are generally too obtuse for my tastes. It's strange that they didn't make it compatible with the SNES mouse, though, as I imagine it would make a world of difference. Same with the Scooby Doo game on the Sega Genesis, why not make that compatible with the Mega Mouse?

You are correct that the Scooby Doo show perfectly transitions into a point and click game. Perhaps a visual novel format could be good way to make a Scooby Doo game as well.
oh yeah a visual novel would also fit the show really well
Great video. I'll have to check some of these games out! :)
Hope you'll enjoy them ^^
I love Borat's video game reviews. Very nice! 👍
Borat? Where?
The Gabriel Knight remake was great. You should be proud to have worked on it.
aww thank you!
Night Slashers for the arcade is also a good one to check out. A gory brawler!
Oh I was going to include that game and then I noticed the arcade system is actually 32-bit
So I'll be saving it for next year
Great video.👍 A lot of good games that I didn't hear of it before. I think I'm gonna subscribe. :)
Thank you!! :D
47:34 that battle music is trying SO HARD to be Earthbound and failing at it lol
Haha. Yeah the music is the game's weak point
Great video! Laplace no Ma looks really interesting. One of my favorite 16-bit horror themed games is Majyuuou for Super Famicom.
oooh thank you for the recomendation
Games that should be included in Part 2:
- *Atmosfear* (SNES)
- *Ghost Sweeper Mikami* (SNES)
- *Mystical Fighter* (Genesis)
- *Gegege no Kitaro* (GBA)
- *Alien VS Predator* (Arcade)
- *Alien³: The Gun* (Arcade)
- *Metamoqester* (Arcade)
- *Monster Maulers* (Arcade)
- *Shadowland* (Arcade)
- *The Real Ghostbusters* (Arcade)
- *Kabuki-Z* (Arcade)
Ooh thank you for the recommendations!
Ha! Just played that Scooby game last month. I was able to beat the carnival as a kid, but only made it halfway through the hotel. Even as an adult, had to look up two clues where I was stumped.
Oh yeah the game is genuinely difficult
Ushio and Tora! That's a great series!
definitely need to check out the anime
@@st1ka Go with the 90's OVA first. The 2010's series goes through to the end of the manga series, but it really doesn't capture the heart/feel of the manga of it. I'm not sure why.
@@sleepingkirby sounds good!
as a playtester for the translation patch of Laplace's Demon, I really hope more people discover and enjoy this gem. So risking my sanity playing it over and over may be worth it! :P
thank you for your work in the translation ^_^
The Vampire staking in the Elvira game is so violently visceral, not so much for the violence but the realistic point of view from the player. I wonder why this isn't done so much today.
right? It's such a visceral and cool scene
Aliens archade is just .... Perfect
Fantastic video. I should really load up some of these games on my MiSTer and give them a spin.
hope you'll enjoy it
the elvira 2 title screen is the most 90s thing i've ever seen :D
haha agreed! :D
Wow! I forgot about Aliens. I remember loving it.
It's such a cool game
Great game's, thank you for the video 👍
I always knew you were a Sega guy :D....glad you let us know though, you're the man
You could go back even further to 8 bit games, then you'd get Forbidden Forest on the Commodore 64, I loved that game.
Oh I did an 8-bit horror video last year. Sadly, only consoles. I aim to correct that some day
Great video but don't forget the arcade family favorite Chiller! I played it once in an arcade for a few minutes and have never been able to get the atrocities I committed that evening out of my head...
haha yeah, Chiller is a classic! :D
This is fantastic stuff man ❤
another great video from st1ka. I had the pleasure to play scooby doo back in the day but didnt know english. So now I am waiting for the right time to play it again with my friends.
I was never much into gore, but splatterhouse felt a bit too much for the 11 y-o me. Today I think its a materpiece, specially the intros.
yep they're really cool games :D
That last game on the list seems really cool! I've gotta see if I can get the patch to work on ZSNES.
Love your list, worth to wait ... TNBC added in my list .. thanks ..
Maybe retro metroidvania list for next video ? 😅
Oooh I like that idea actually
Great video! I want to check out Gabriel Knight and Laplace no Maou for sure.
Hope you'll enjoy it! :D
I used to have nightmares about splatterhouse when I was younger, and I didn't even play it, I just saw my friend playing!
haha I tottally get what you mean
From what I remember, Elvira 2 was split into three sections: the adventure section in the house, the combat section in the mines, and the one that does both in the catacombs.
Since you gain experience for solving puzzles too, it’s recommended to play the game in the order above to have the best chance for survival against the bugs and skeletons. (There’s definitely more battles once you get to the catacombs.)
Yeah that's true ^^
I LOVE the house section. Wish all the sections were in the more adventure puzzle style like it. The combat is easily the weakest point of those games....and they put in waaaay too many enemies
Yep the house section is definitely the most memorable
Did not know about the Elvira games. The artwork is impressive.😮
right?! It's so cool!
Splatterhouse 3 is SO good. But yeah, Scooby-Doo needs mouse controls badly
