I agree with some of what MacArthur said about mental illness, but not all. This was an off-the-cuff question (I believe) and I wonder if he'd not been under pressure to give a quick answer if he would've given a more nuanced response. Sometimes on various issues he answers in what seems to me an unnecessarily brusque manner. Overall he has been a great influence in my life and I've heard a lot of truth from him. He's mid-80's now and perhaps that tends towards bluntness. :)
What makes you think you’ve gotten truth from that guy? And even if you did get something out of him. So what! You can pull truth out of a turnip if you listen long enough. Stop making excuses for him.
I was shocked and saddened to hear John MacArthur say something so outdated… So harmful… Discounting mental illness - especially when he knows full well that great men of the Bible suffered from these very same conditions.
