amazing how good Suzie Q and even Grapevine are. heard both on radio on my new car (first in 24 years!) and I had that baby blaring. Green River special though.
"John Fogerty's guitar quickly drew me in. The throbbing riff which introduces the song signals that Creedence's return to the bayou will be a complete delight. And it is. The opening riff, which is repeated throughout the song in slightly different forms, is the stone skipping across the water (pick up a flat rock, skip it across Green River). The instrumental in the middle represents the frogs croaking and mosquitoes buzzing in the swamp ( I can here the bullfrog calling me ...). Pure genius from John Fogerty. This song could be the most underrated rock song of all time. Have a listen again with these points in mind. When it ends you feel its over too quickly and you want more. There is no chorus to fill it out. But its a masterpiece as is. If you want more, play it again and again and ......
Yeah when you finally get out of the City and into the country and Fortunate Son is blasting and you just completely floor it because now there's nothing around for miles and cops are scarce... absolutely amazing.
I was raised on all the good late 50s mo town, and 60s-80s rock and roll. We had stacks of vinyl (probably over 300 records) I remember my father bought this 1966 Ford Falcon, it ran but it had been sitting for a while before he got it. It was just a “beater" with a straight 6, the seats were ripped and had these dirty early 70s seat covers. This Falcon had also been equipped with a cassette player and my father just always let it play. On that Cassette was CCR Greatest Hits and every time I hear them now I always can remember the smell of those musky dirty seats, opening the side cigarette windows, and just cruising with my father in the late 90s without a care in the world. It's one of the very few happy memories I have of him and I and thanks to the music I will NEVER forget. Truly the best road trip music! 🤘
Man these were the times when music and Musicians really made you visualize the music and the feeling of the story of the times, I can almost smell the Green river, and all it's life.
My Mom is 82. CCR was and still is her favorite rock group. During the 60's and early 70's, while Dad was at work, we listened to the rock stations. Mom still has all their recordings.
For those wondering, the musicians are lead vocalist-lead guitarist John Fogerty, rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty, bassist Stu Cook, and drummer Doug Clifford.
Listening to their tracks, you feel like you're there with them - wherever they were performing. They drew us in within a bar setting or concert hall. All talented musicians, especially drummer Doug Clifford. He blended his cymbal work with a steady backbeat like no other drummer I have heard. Watch any live performance and you'll see what I mean.
YES!!! Even listening on an old a$$ cassette with my dear old Pops during our long road trips..... felt like they were right there in the car with us!!! Best memories of my life!!! And that is not exaggerating....
Although I've never been to the States, when ever I listen to this song I can get the feeling of the country side of America. Than you for this song John and CCR.
My soul actually soars when Fogharty belts out “Wellllllll” then the sickest, toughest, nastiest descending blues lick ever heard sends me back into my body….
The problem is you tend to think of the band you are listening at the moment as the best. The Byrds, Simon and Garfunkel, and as you have mentioned, the Doors, Beach Boys, the Eales, CCR even Monkees all come to mind.
I'm sure it was a hard decision amongst these GIANTS but I think you are right. Even though I'm not American, The CCR represent America more than (gulp) Elvis Presley who was my idol during my formative years.
My best friend and I listened to this song on repeat for 2 hours driving into the mountains on a fishing trip, and the lake is called suzie. so there was basically only 2 songs played all week.good times. Creedence has a place in my heart that my future wife will never be able to be at. this music creates undescribable amounts of pleasure.long live CCR and fogertys powers.
I want to move out to a place like Texas, and just drive around at night, blasting this music, nobody else on the road, just alone. That'd be Heaven right there. And K-DST is the greatest radio station ever.

It would have been so great .... cruising in a Chevelle with a big block, jamming to this song. Hot girl in the passenger seat, big bag of smoke, and nothing but good memories and good times ahead.
TheGoldenSaber It’s already great for me sir. On the daily I cruise down the streets in my big lifted 76 Silverado with its original, slightly built 350 small block, pipes blasting out the deep mean tunes of American machinery. Blunts rolled, hot girl in the passenger seat, subwoofers bumping with the speakers blasting out CCR non-stop. Sure is a sight to see.
Yeah that does sound nice. Won't ever get to experience it cause I'm a loser so until I change shit in my life no women who is worth a damn would want to be with me as I am now. But I suppose it's still possible for it to happen. Just highly unlikely. Good thing for day dreams.

Early 70's I use to rock out with this tape. We were like, 15 and 16. It was a good time for me. No problems with bills, living at home and just hanging out with my friends.
One of my top 4 favorite songs of all time. To put that in perspective, I saw, Zeppelin twice, Van Halen 3 times, Santana once, Heart once, Ted Nugent, Black Sabbath with Ozzie, Triumph, Joe Cocker, Styx, ELP, and more others than you could name. THIS is one of theee greatest rock tunes ever in my opinion. WHY? I couldn't tell ya, just is. The rest of my short list is , Doors Crystal Ship, Zep's Stairway, and Beatles A day in the Life. Is their a 5th? Im sure their is, I just dont know what it is :) CCR ruled 1969, the Greatest Year in Rock History! God bless. Thanks for the upload.
Hi Paul, if you read my reply to Timothy Little above, you will find the reasons why you think Green River just is one of the greatest rock tunes of all time.
THIS song is like a monster crawling out of the deep woods along the GreenRiver. Unstoppable, classic perfection still flying around never to be grounded. what the fuck am i talking bout
See my reply to Timothy Little above, as to why this song is an unstoppable monster and classic perfection. You are talking about the greatest rock song of all time.
A Cousin of 'Born on the Bayou.' But watch out - there is a little Memphis here along with a 'touch' of Sun Records recording technique; And that amazing thing that happens when accomplished White musicians play African American Music. Perhaps Greats like Jerry Lee Lewis - who was a New Orleans boy - and other Sun Records Rockabilly stars did not acknowledge the influence of Black music on their music enough. They created a hip new musical form by combining a Country Sound with Scottish- Irish roots with African American music; In the process created a wonderful new kind of music. Americans - if we could just acknowledged our wonderful sharing of musical forms and Go to Church Together and Just End All This Pain.
Yea, but mine is RED. An El Dorado like Della Reese drove on the series Touch By an Angel. Ooooooh yeeeeaaaaa. Or maybe even jumpin' in an empty box car, clickety clackin' on a slow train through Georgia or Louisiana. One more thing on the bucket list I can't do with these bad knees. Guess I'll just save up for that Cadillac.
College years, driving down the backroads of the country in Pennsylvania smoking joints fatter than my thumb with my best friends late at night blasting this song...takes me back instantly as soon as I hear that riff.
And I thought I was the only one to notice this. I discovered this the first time I heard this in September 1969, one month after it was released. The original recording is my most favorite studio recording by the most talented rock & roll musician ever, JCF.
***** Well, you must remember that they have 2 songs of The Cult, Ozzy Osbourne, Boston, Phil Collins, Eddie Money, Foreigner, and Toto among others across different stations in different games.

"barefoot girls dancin' in the moonlight"
One of the best lines ever.
The best Creedence song ever, as fresh and as gutsy as the first time I heard it in the late '60's.
Totally agree with you there. They've had many hits, but this one will always be my favorite.
It's not actually as good as Run Through...!
This song does have a certain je ne c’est pas. R
I agree. My favorite as well. 2nd best I think is 'Run Through the Jungle'.

CCR is the best band to listen to when fighting in Ho Chi Min City.
CCR Put The Rock Back Into Rock And Roll.

Back when ppl made their own style of music an all bands sounded diffrent..compared to everyone wanting the same sound like todays music
Green River was actually J Fogerty's favorite flavor of a soda he would get as a kid.
My Mom is 82. CCR was and still is her favorite rock group. During the 60's and early 70's, while Dad was at work, we listened to the rock stations. Mom still has all their recordings.
