I grew up listening to CCR. The song came on one day as my daughter and her husband were outside. Her husband went to change it. She said, no don't. That"s my dad's music. As a child I would have nothing but 60's and 70's music. I love every thing from rock to country, ballads many things. My daughter even recognizes Johnny Cash, Buck Owens. Hope she shows her kids one day. It's the greatest music.
My Lord, how young they look. The young men today do not hold a candle to that generation. Vietnam Vets, WW2 Vets, thank you. No matter if Vietnam was a just war or not the guilt lies on the heads of those in power. To the men and women who have gone to war from our great country again I say thank you from heart.
For those wondering if it wasn't obvious already, this song is talking about how a lot of teens were drafted to Vietnam without volunteering but rich/politician families' kids didn't have to.
I was an odd ball back then. My two brothers both served after being drafted so I enlisted after high school. I would have been drafted anyways so I figured why wait. I got two stories back then. My one brother served in the Corps and completed three tours. He always told me how it was so boring until the shooting started. He was leading patrols in the Me Cong delta. My other brother went Army. When I asked my other brother what it was like, he said all he did was cry. He lost all his childhood friends. He and his friends joined on what they called the "body system" where they went through boot camp together and then got sent over together. He was fixing helos at Da Nang when it go over ran during Tet. He miraculously got out. None of his friends made it. So, I went Air Force. I fought the cold war on F-111 flying pigs I called them. It's always strange listening to these old songs. It stirs up so much emotion that sometimes I still cry. I've never been to the wall. I don't think I could handle it seeing all those names. So now, I just stay home in a dark room waiting for the last sunset.
@@fgarz7148 well actually vietnam didn't really kick America's ass, you see, since back then north vietnam was Communist, being supplied by red china and russia. Even when America did damage vietnam would just keep on getting more supplies, hence America just packed up and left. It doesn't mean that America had its ass kicked, America just left south vietnam to be taken over, but if you're referring to something different like the spike traps and tactics the Vietnamese soldiers used then yeah

Phenomenal song! I was homeschooled and what they teach in textbooks about war is pathetically little. My Papa took over the history lessons. It was phenomenal. Stuff they’d never teach anywhere. As I grew older he told us more and more yet I know it’a a fraction of what he survived. It breaks my heart that those boys..men…were treated so terribly upon their return. I’m so proud to be the daughter and niece of 2 Marines, and the niece of both an Army MP and Navy SEAL who all served in Vietnam.
I'm the nephew of a Forward Observer Corps scout and the son of a Hawaii trained M60 door gunner, will a CIB. My other uncle was a cook trained in Germany who forgot he'd earned a Bronze Star until he applied to the VA for PTSD benefits. Fortunately none of them faced the shameful treatment some other vets did when they got back to the World.
Went to Vietnam to meet dad’s side of the family, visited the rat tunnels and played this on the bus on the way got a few giggles from yank tourists but that was about it lol
I wasn’t drafted, I volunteered as a teenager - I strongly believed that I had a duty and I needed to support what others were doing. I have, as a double VN vet, a great respect for my brothers in arms.
just wondering: so would you show respect to the north Vietnam vets that survived? because after all they fought for the same reason you did just against you
Exactly as planned. Get the poor & working class kids to kill each other. That's the real reason for war. Don't be fooled. The "elite ruling class" collaborate regardless of borders. Same as Democrats & Republicans in the US. They work together while keeping the public divided & fighting each other. The wrong ppl have power in this world. But we give them that power. Wish ppl would wake up & stop falling for their shit
I think it is a little known fact if I'm not mistaken that Bob Ross was a in the Air Force in nam and when he went to the VA to help him he began painting to heal him from the constant nightmares I may be wrong
Haha,...we need to go over there and smack the devil outta them.... I used to love watching him paint,...all of the little happy trees, and then he would smack the bush, and be like just smack the devil outta him...haha... 😂

One of the best tv shows ever made
I was an odd ball back then.

@@wander67 North Vietnam invaded South Vietnam and the US helped South Vietnam by sending troops. The same applied for the Korean War. And Iraq 1990 was justified because Iraq invaded Kuwait and the UN council allowed to use military means after the Ultimatum expired and the Iraqi troops wouldn’t not leave Kuwait.
