Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the chief"
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh

Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no

Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer "More! More! More!" yoh

This song is Anti-war but not Anti-soldier, so this song being associated with the war is actually right. Its the soldiers being ironic and saying: “look at me, i wasnt rich enough to dodge the draft, so here we are”. This song is a coping mechanism for soldiers

Such a simple song to play, yet so iconic. The genius of this band was not in playing complicated and flashy riffs and solos, it was in their ability to create such amazing and iconic tunes from simple concepts. And those great vocals too of course.

One of the best songs ever, brilliantly portraying what governments think of the common man and leading our sons and daughters to war, but not there own sons and daughters, we are the unfortunate ones until we stand against all governments and say no more war, BRILLIANT SONG AND BAND, TIMELESS.
Now Russia is the new victim
Companies, mánagers, capital...the goverments are just a doll for them.
Your comment is far from accurate, regarding US government officials in high offices, "leading" private citizen sons & daughters into war, with the exception being their own children. That's a ludicrous insinuation. Many numerous politicians, including Presidents, have served Military duty for this country, as well as their sons. And, they've served active combat wartime duty. Do your homework. And, yes, they were wealthy, so step down from that soapbox. The draft ended decades ago. Sons & daughters serving US Military duty today, do so by choice. They are the bravest of selfless Patriotic Americans. Protecting the freedoms of ungrateful propagandists, who sling such insults against them. Like you. And you reference "governments". Meaning all governments. So yes, communist governments do lead sons & daughters into deadly situations. Think kamikaze. Communist governments order every single person's life. The US does not. And what did you suggest? Oh yes, to do away with government, so to speak. You suggest to "stand up against" and do away with war, and wars. Are you that ill informed? From the beginning of time, man has raged war. On nearly every place on Earth. How do you think it was done? To conquer and rule. Possess. Win lands. Man has violently fought man, to overtake & gain possession & control.1000 years of documented history. Study the lineage of Queen Elizabeth II. Amazing history lesson. And, Vietnam had a purpose. It was simply not a war to be won. Our soldiers were not trained to Guerrilla warfare. Nor were they jungle savvy. Nor were they prepared for the Vietcong irregular forces instead of regular military. It was all much more complicated than a Creedence Clearwater song. The Vietnam War raged from 1954 to 1975!!! We were an ally of South Vietnam. It was an attempt by the US to prevent the spread of communism. Most Americans our age, think of an 8 year war. And the rest, is history. And Creedence Clearwater songs. 😊. However, I have no short comment to such a sad lack of education. So I just encourage you to study. How dare folks insult soldiers, who risked lives back then, & still today, risk their lives for YOU! That includes wealthy politicians. And includes wealthy families, with generations of Soldiers. Our select politicians were captured and tortured. But they never left their men behind. And they could have, as high ranking officers. But they refused to be released, & instead, chose to stay & comfort & lead their men while captured. Read about those wealthy government politicians.Your complaining self is free, because of fighting soldiers. Get a grip. You hear a song, & go stupid. What an insult to every heroic American. And their suffering. Put money where your mouth is, & help a Veteran. Advocate for the government to heavily fund our Military, and to more heavily fund Veteran programs. Those are two things that our government needs to increase. Military & Veteran funding. US citizen funding. Before foreign illegals. Yes, the current administration is lacking government leadership.I admit that. But I stand by my defense, as mentioned above. God bless America!!!!
54 years later, this song is still perfect
Yes west still pushing young men in the name of "democracy"
It's because it's still an issue. The rich pay no taxes and use people as cannon fodder in wars to enrich themselves. The military industrial complex has this country since the civil war, but you could make a case for the revolution being rich "founding fathers" getting others to fight a war for them so they wouldn't pay taxes. Whipping the common man into a frenzy so they can die so that you can have "a little more".
I still remember when a republican kid said, "I used to listen to your music, but I can't listen to you guys (rage against the machine) but I can't listen because your message has changed."
And they answered him, "what machine did you think we were raging against?"
The only thing which has never changed is that there will always be idiots who are willing to throw away their lives so that rich politicians get fat.
Every president during that Era ran on a platform to remove us from Vietnam. Strange that it continued for over 20 years. Same as Iraq, Afghanistan, now Ukraine. Etc, Etc... and the machine continues to grind.
It is horrifying that 54 years later this song is still relevant. After 20 years of sending our sons and daughters to war, wasting blood and treasure. We still live in a country that wastes the lives of young poor people. So that rich people can have their wars.

Even though it was a couple of decades before I was born, the Vietnam war was unjustified based on what I've read about it. It was almost like the Americans didn't know what they were afraid of. Don't get me wrong, war is a horrible thing. However, as a Brit I know that military intervention has been required in some circumstances over the years, whether it be us going all in against the Germans to protect our skies in 1942 or, more recently, us merely supplying the Ukrainians with tanks in 2022 to help them fend off the Russians. Whether it's active, like my first historical example, or passive, like my second, no military intervention is pleasant by any means. It's just countries doing what needs to be done in the name of national security, and let me here say that, from what I've read about the Vietnam war, it was actually the Vietnamese who were the good guys. America brought that shit on themselves.

Thanks so much Mr Redundant! Yeah we all know how the song goes there champ.
After retiring from the Army; this song hits harder than ever. Just looking back and reflecting on everything that happened, everything that almost happened, and everything that was supposed to happen... and most importantly; why...
No I am not bitter. I joined voluntarily and it's very meaningful to me. The military is great, and made me a better and more complete person. However; that doesn't mean that war itself is so great.
It's always the senators politicians and millionaires screaming for more war; because it's not their sons going to fight. That said; we all know what the deal is when we sign up nowadays. It's not exactly tragic, so much as it's kinda ridiculous. We sign up to fight a rich old man's vendetta. We know this, and don't particularly respect it.. And yet; we do our jobs on his behalf with a level of honor and integrity that rich man could never even fathom.

When I said, "Traditionally the rich don't go to war," several students were flabbergasted. When I explained the many ways the rich could easily get out of the draft when the poor could not...well, it was a light bulb moment.
That’s effective teaching.
That certainly wasn't the case on the front line, especially from the UK. The nobility had a strong military history, still do, with the sons of even the monarch serving in the armed forces. The upper class lost proportionately far more sons in WWI, both with the military service tradition, and the fact that mainly as officers they would be the first to lead the "charge".

This is what America is truly about: people living their lives to the fullest they possibly can regardless of race, religion and politics - unabashedly loving their land and the people in it. That bombastic spirit that says "I am who I am and I'm not ashamed to show it"
I'm a relatively new immigrant and despite all the hate America gets, I love it here and all the diversity of thought and energy of its people.
Welcome to America I hope u get rich
This song faintly starts to play and gets louder and louder whenever a country finds oil.

Yup. That’s why they want the West Bank and Gaza. They found oil and natural gas

Almost 50 years later, John Fogerty's lyrics are still as relevant as ever!
How so when kids aren't being drafted into a war like they were then?
@@matthatter2849 The lyrics speak of a tax evading ruling class, and nowadays kids are often going into the military out of economic necessity
@@matthatter2849 not necessarily by a draft. But who makes up most of our US military? The answer is not rich but lower middle class and poor people, the ones that actually need the money. And it's the bridge that decide the policies and the ones that are mostly affected negatively by these new policies are the poor and lower-middle-class people. So yes it still makes sense today because the rich are still profiting from the poor and lower middle class.
Played this on an MP3, it's now an M16.

to this day, much respect to the real heroes in the last 100 years. to all the vietnam vets who went against their will to war. came back to get spit on and mistreated. i can’t get you all, but the moment i got my first part time job…. anytime i’m at a restaurant all vietnam vets eat free. i was too young for the draft but witnessed the pain it brought. to one of my best friend’s brothers who never came back home… i miss you till this day. to all those that did, i love you guys and the highest respect i can give. I will never forget the sacrifice you guys made. i’m sorry i was too young to understand the mental hell you guys were living daily
Victims, not Heroes.
You know, how much i can blame america for this war, i can‘t blame the people that fighted it… when you get drafted… you nedd to go… and if you go… you do everything to live another day… even if you need to kill
You are doing god's work, keep it up!
thought i come back to this, ran into a vietnam vet today. bought him coffee and a donut while working. he said he was grateful for showing him love and respect but wished he got more appreciation when he returned from vietnam. Respect to all the vietnam vets. i love you guys.

Sad how many people think this is a pro war song. Nah it's about not being a lucky rich kid dodging the draft into a unnecessary war

Credence Clearwater didn’t say it was anti war but did say that it was against those rich kids dodging the draft
The song was played in a lot of Vietnam movies so kids get all trigger happy. But if they ever got drafted and was handed a M16 with a high failure rate they would probably shit them self.

CCR is so underrated.
One of the best ever. Period
are they underrated today? for sure, but ask anybody who was anybody in the music industry in the late 60's early 70's who was in, they would say The Beatles and Creedence Clearwater
far from underrated they were the biggest band on america 1969-1971 (overthrown by led zep i guess idk)

@@ClutchSituation the song is just about the inadequacy of the US draft lottery system and how the poor and minorities had no chance of avoiding Vietnam as they couldnt afford to get a college voucher, or attend officer school, or have their family payout to avoid. Also getting drafted meant marine corps for the most part which wasn't ideal, most of my family that drew low numbers volunteered so they could have some control.

You could put this song to anything, and it just feels right. There can't possibly be that many songs that are like this.
Well this song was written to a very specific audience - rich, privileged, politicians - who at the time were sending other peoples sons to die in Vietnam while their own children only read of such things in the news between endless parties and opulent weddings. Foggerty singled them out and slashed them to the bone with this song.
There can't possibly be ANY songs that are like this.
