Kevin's said this was the most challenging song for him to record in regards to beatboxing so far in their journey!

And how is it that KO can look cool when beatboxing? Most beatboxers look goofy when they perform (including such masters of the craft as Adam Rupp). But Kevin? Nah, he just looks chill doing it

You are correct. No egos in this group. They fluidly share the spotlight! SteamPunk meets Mad Hatter’s tea party in Alice in Wonderland. Lots of randomness here. They said they had guys on cranes out of shot dropping things throughout that had to be retrieved between each take! They also said they learned the correo just that day! They are SO talented! Their 5 videos from their At Home EP show they can even breathe collectively when not in the same room together. All filmed & recorded in their own homes during quarantine. Enjoyed the review!

I feel a bit like some of the reactors that are a bit dumbfounded by their accappela abilities...this video was done from their respective homes...OMG!!!!

@@timcaldwell5241 Sorry to confuse you. My Favorite Things was filmed together. It’s their At Home EP sings that were from home. That includes: Home, Blinding Lights, When the Party’s Over, Break My Heart, and Dreams. They are each in their own boxes! And sound amazing.

@@Karen-Campos lol...apparently I can’t get anything right...except the absolute awesomeness of PTX!!! One other thing that makes them great, in my opinion, outside of their musical ability...is the fact that they are so supportive of each other in their individual endeavors and STILL come together as Pentatonix...obviously killing it and enjoying doing it!!!

    • @Karen-Campos
      @Karen-Campos 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

@@timcaldwell5241 You are right! I heard an interview from a while back that they all have a mutual agreement that each member can pursue their own projects as long as Pentatonix always comes first. That approach has certainly worked for them!

I personally don’t see how the panning matters especially considering that the album version comes out long before the music video does. To each their own I guess. But great reaction though.

    • @rugr82day

To me it works if you think that's how the sit or stand next to each other when performing. I think of it like they are on stage and if Scott is in the middle and Kirstie is on his right then Scott would hear her in his right ear. I agree with you. They have recorded it in the studio they way they want the album version to sound.

  • @dishmurphy6539

The panning really bothers you. I hope you can get used to it because I don’t think it’s accidental. Nothing they do musically seems to be without intent. Merry Christmas ☮️💟😷🎄❤️💚

Lol, Jacob, I thought he was holding a Grammy...I got quickly corrected...those were just random things, per their live Q&A...Mitch said it was prob a participation trophy as he had a LOT of those😂 Merry Christmas...great reaction and great Vid

As for their recording, I've watched A LOT of their videos and several years of their PTXperience vlogs and it seems that they generally record individually with just a minimum production team. There were also some occasions where they recorded on their tour bus in like a little recording closet with just their arranger Ben Bram. I guess it makes things way easier when your voice is your only instrument. 😊

@@JacobRestituto Here's a fun, short tic tock video (under 3 min) that shows how they build a song by starting with the beat, adding bass, then harmonies and finally main vocal. (This one is for Daft Punk)

They do the panning in the studio to give the best effect for the listeners to the albums. They don't block out any of the placement positions in the videos contingent on the audio panning. Their primary concern is the audio for the albums. The videos are an afterthought, usually shot in one day per video. One of them (I think it was Mitch or maybe Scott) said in an interview back in the early days that they weren't trying to make big huge productions out of their videos. It's only been in more recent years that their videos have become more visually intricate, although Daft Punk was VERY intricate considering it was shot in a kitchen on a budget of $400!

Can you react to some of Kevin’s solo work. He uses different instruments and musical gadgets to make really cool sounds. Definitely recommend Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood or Renagade (original song played on cello while beatboxing)

I notice a lot of comments on the panning. Since it seems to happen with every video, how about just turning the headphones around. I know, they specify right and left, but it seems to hit a nerve with you.
Like others have said, the recordings are done before the videos. I doubt they consider it when choreographing the video.
I love a lot of your insights, it just seems that there is a simple solution to this minor irritation.😊

They could easily remaster it when the video is all shot. They choose not to. Why? No idea. But like someone in the comments alluded to, nothing random about a PTX production. Given the attention to detail in all regards, this must be a choice.
...or they don't think it matters (other than to Jacob)

As for the panning, when Mitch was doing his part, he is sitting on the left of the center (Matt) Even though he's on our right. So maybe that's why he was in the left ear? Same goes for Scott being at the right side of the table but our left and we heard him in the right.
