I used to get so frustrated at numerous pauses in reactions until I realized there is a big difference between a reaction and a musical analysis put out by a professional singer/musician/vocal teacher. Then it made sense and I appreciate your take on this. I learned things and heard things for the first time that I didn't catch upon first, second, 10th hearing. THANK YOU!!!!
Sorry Susan but I think she pauses way too much and makes the reaction rather boring. I watch many many reactions and this person is too analytical to the point of nausea. Pause ad nauseum, rather terrible, but that's just the opinion of a retired person who listens to this stuff all day. I can't believe she still hasn't finished the song. LOL And she continues to pause, and pause, and pause, etc. etc.
@@randycolaianni4937 after 30 seconds of play, they have to pay royalties. Hence the frustration at the pauses. I suspect she has a timer to keep her on target.
@@deansmith4752 Thanks for the response and I was not aware of that because almost all the others that do reactions do not pause anywhere near as much as she does.
They do indeed shift parts! Their ranges overlap hugely. Mitch and Kirstin swap soprano/alto lines all the time, and Scott sings tenor when Mitch is solidly up in his higher range (most of the time, right?). Matt has a beautiful melodic baritone, and as we all know, Scott doubles for the bass (Matt now, Avi in the early days) when the bass has a solo. Then if Kevin joins in on vocals instead of making beats, he's a tenor with a lovely soprano falsetto. I believe that Kirstin now bills herself as an alto instead of a mezzo-soprano. And Scott could power through all of them - he got dinged for overpowering his group-mates early on during the The Sing-Off. Re the skull: apparently the set dressers went nuts with what's on the table, and the group was just told to each pick something and play with it!
Hi Elizabeth. I have 4 daughters and they all Have Elizabeth in their names somewhere. ☺ When are you going to do the new PTX? "The Prayer". I love all your comments and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us. Hugs from Florida 🌞!
@@Astaroth236 well he did say that Elizabeth is in their name somewhere, so I'm guessing some of them have it as a second or third name Still weird tho yeah
Hi Elizabeth, I'm glad you're getting back to another PTX reaction, and this performance was amazing. I loved Kirsten's lead vocals, Kevin's vocal percussion, and the flair of the harmony. I also enjoyed how they kept the feel of the original song, and made it more upbeat and modern. Thank you, Elizabeth!!! 💙
Pentatonix modulations show how their skills in chromatic movement as an ensemble have grown over time! Killin! I love the occasions when they sing two against three as well! Your mention of Mitch at the outset is well said; being an authentic countertenor, Mitch’s emotions really come through with that timbre he expresses! As a composer-pianist, I’ve been a Pentaholic since 2012 and the growth I’ve observed in Kirstin over the last decade has, for me, been sooo heartwarming! Early on, Kirstie was wonderful, but she lacked confidence. Now, she belts right alongside the boys. She’s now an equal leg of The Trio!
This is why I love reaction videos, because other people catch things I missed, and I can experience the song in a new way. There were so many details that I missed
Elizabeth - an assignment? Bobby McFerrin who has spent his life experimenting with voice . His own voice at first, then later voice play with an audience. His range is extensive. His body of work is worthy of a PBS study of the various periods of his life coupled with a conversation with him. I only ever found one extensive interview which helped me love him more. He seems like a giant in the charisma of voice! So a little taste through the periods of his experiments. Don’t forget when he directs famous orchestras in bare feet. Getting the players to use their voice to “play” their instrument. He has played (sang) with so many famous. People. Chic chorea is my favorite
“Don’t worry be happy”. is the least like his usual experimental work. Although he is most generally known for it. He disappeared from the pop scene after that song since he never does any thing twice. Turns out he was directing famous orchestras doing classical pieces in Bobby Mcferrin style completely under the radar of the pop world I agree that blackbird is very nice. And there is his more recent work where he uses the audience to improvise. He is really famous for his improvisation. There is a you tube video of him getting the audience to do a pentatonic scale by showing the audience the intervals through jumping sideways
There's no doubt that Elizabeth's analysis of the vocals and the musicality is expert, but Pentatonix doesn't just sing -- they perform. Each video is a small play in and of itself and this one is the most fantastic I have ever seen. Elizabeth, if you read this, you are a performer as well as a singer and I would really like to hear your comments concerning the scripting and acting that Pentatonix does because they are far and away the best I have seen.
I have listened to this song so many times over the last couple years and you are pointing out things I never heard like the "pew pew". very cool. great reaction. I really hope you react to Over The River - you'll enjoy it I think.
I Just found Pentatonix.. I've never heard or realized, Accapella was so diverse, making all the different sounds vocally.. your a Hero in my Book Thank you for your Fun and Wisdom!!
Please don't wait a year to react to PTX's cover of The Prayer. It just came out this year and it may very well be their best work yet. A very close second is last year's "Amazing Grace" which is just spectacular.
You are an absolute delight to watch because of your delight. Its captivating! I so enjoy seeing people react who understand and can communicate WHY Pentatonix is so masterful. "That was awesome" may be true every time, but there's so much more to say!
My favorite Pentatonix song is "God rest ye merry gentleman", turned me into a big fan. While Matt Sallee has a fantastic voice, Avi Kaplan was amazing and unique. I would love to hear you compare and contrast the two.
I guess his name is Mitch, whoever opened with the first vocals. You said this reminded you of Tim Burton. Mitch looks almost a spot-on twin of Johnny Depp's character, Barnabas (I think), in the movie Dark Shadows.
I do think this has a really strong vampire vibe! Yes, Mitch Grassi, tenor/countertenor - 6 octave range and sings well into the soprano female range. You might like their cover of Making Christmas (from Nightmare Before Christmas) as well.
Their cover of Over the River was the most clever and amazing reimagination of a song that has never been one of my favorite Christmas songs. Please review that one!
I have figured it out! You are the "Music Appreciation" professor we all wish we had as college freshmen. The genuine love and enthusiasm is SO infectious! Of course you weren't even a twinkle in your daddy's eye when I was in college... But the thought remains... The energy and positive vibes are much needed and appreciated. Thank You, Ma'am!
I can’t wrap my head around it how they memorise all these notes ! Mind boggling! And also very creative and flawlessly executed! Sparkling like thousands of little diamonds and various Crystals 😍😍😍🥰
Loved your reaction and in particular your descriptions of what makes Mitch's voice just so..... wonderful. In a group of amazing vocalists, I find it hard to explain why I love his the most! Your attention to detail and picking up on all of the little background jewels is lovely to see. I really enjoy your reaction and the joy you show while watching.
Scott's voice can come across mysterious at times (especially in his part in this song which make him seem like a wizard or vampire trying to tempt you into joining them in their fun). So the skull is fitting.
I've listened to this reaction a few times since my first time 4 months ago. I've also listened to numerous other reactions to it. yours is the BEST!!! Each time I play this I enjoy how you break it down and add to the experience. LOVE your facial expressions and descriptions! Still. 😊

I first heard of these guys about 5 years ago when they were guests on a Saturday morning cooking show, here in the UK, and their personalities really impressed me, they seemed so friendly and sweet. I've seen this many times, but the details and moments you point out and explain add so much to my enjoyment. I know you a vocal person, but go back and watch it a few more times just to catch the items dropping from overhead. A blue satin sash and a white dress are two of them.. but there are so many more... need to pause the video many times to catch them all.
I love Pentatonix and watching your reactions just brings a smile to my face to think that someone else likes them as much as I do for all the same reasons.
I think of this as like a scene from a Disney movie where the villain has a solo. This is Kirstin as a Disney villain singing about her favorite things while her minions dance around her. Great reaction as always!

One of my favorite songs by them and for most of my life. I used to watch Sound of Music as a kid back to back to back🎶💕 But they bring such a mystery and almost dark ominous feeling to it.
This piece has “Making Christmas” vibes. I love the fact that PTX is never too precious about their arrangements-particularly on the up tempo charts! The general public has no real idea how intricate these pieces are... the chromatic harmony and the key changes! The group is made up of real genius!
Hello Charismatic Voice. So many great reaction videos from you!. You always seem to identify each performers best points. I don't think I have ever heard a negative comment come from you, have you?. You are a pure beautiful soul. Happy holidays.
My grandmother had a snowglobe with a music box built in that played this song. It is one of my strongest and fondest memories. She died when I was 13…I’m 38 now, so that’s a powerful memory.
Music is my first love. I am not educated in the technicalities of it. When I was a child, I wrote songs simply by using lines, curves & bumps. I knew what it meant & that's all that mattered. In elementary school I took up the flute. 3 months in and my teacher wanted me in first chair. When I found out what that meant, it scared me so bad that I quit. Biggest regret of my life. Anyhow, (sorry) Even though I don't understand the language, I can understand what you are saying each time I watch & find what you say fascinating. You are such a joy to go on a journey with through music. You didn't miss your calling! Thank you for all you do.🙂🙏🏼
First time hearing this, and OMG. I'm in my 50's, grew up watching musicals with my mother. In my 20's and 30's, picture a biker type looking guy that knew about Cab Calloway mThe Nicholas Brothers. Yes, have seen the sound of music several times, as well as 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, etc. All the Bob Hope/ Bing Crosby Road to wherever. I absolutely loved this.
First time actually watching this video of Pentatonic, regardless of the commentary, which was so welcome. First thought in those few moments, I said to myself, "This is "Interview With The Vampire" combine with the tea party in "Alice In Wonderland." They nailed it... if that was the intention of course. 😊
So good! I had not seen or heard this version before either; I was not aware of it. Thank you for your amazing reaction; yours are always a delight to watch!
Mitch and Matt often get spotlighted for having incredible high and low ranges respectively, while Scott gets kind of relegated to "guy in the middle", but what amazes me is that, actually, he does the bass in parts where Matt sings lead, and does the high backing when Mitch sings lead, and you barely even notice it.
I have come to realize that this video format is one of the best to have on in the background while I do homework, so more binging of these will be occurring
When Scott first picks up the skull and looks in it's eyes, it looks so Shakespearan! Lol Like Hamlet! Also, the end reminds me of an old-time German clock with the animated characters that come out when the clock strikes the hour, which is emphasized by the moment when Scott and Mitch reach up for that final clap over Kirstin's head, but their hands don't quite meet!
Love these guys. My wife introduced me after I was knocking a cappella, and, well, I stood corrected. I love the beat boxing they incorpo which is rhythmic for being so percussive at the same time! Freakin' awesome! Hey, don't know if comments are a place to request some, but always curious your take on the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, like "The Impression That I Get" or "Someday I Suppose". His voice is so rough, just curious your reaction on them!
Hi Garret, yes, this is the place to leave a request as Elizabeth and her staff read through all the comments for suggestions. Just FYI, there is a very long list of requests (900+) and that list continues to grow (side note: continue to request your artist/song, and the more likes/upvotes it receives, the more likely it will happen). Thanks!
I am amazed how fast they can sing! Love PTX right from the beginning. But I wish you could explain to me why the early songs which I love the MOST Versus these much more produced ones of the last few years. My feeling is that I can experience the actual voices in their early work. Am I crazy to feel this way??!!
Itès been a delightful experience to watch you analyze and suss out the qualities and characteristics of voices and songs...I have a suggestion: have you considered The Host of Seraphim, by Dead Can Dance? Their music is a hybrid sound, where Lisa Gerrard's fantastic voice laments and soars. I saw them live 20 years ago, and this song made the entire audience cry.
The way this song was used in the film 'Dancer in the Dark' -sung by none other thanBjörk- was just so sad that it was out of this world. Love the upbeat Pentatonix version so much!!!
This is only the 2nd video I've watched of you, but when you mentioned the Alice in Wonderland Tea Party vibes, we both said "I love it" at the same time afterwards, and I immediately subscribed! xD Thank you so much for the fun analysis of one of my favorite groups and songs!
Love Pentatonix and love TheCharismaticVoice. You take that love to a whole new level thru both educational awareness and musical energy. I’m always so pumped up after your videos. I believe there was a video called After Party by Pentatonix where they talked about this video. If I remember right the producer suggested a Mad Hatter theme and they loved it and when it came to their favorite things they were told to just pick up something off the table near them. Hopefully u noticed the things falling out of thin air also throughout the video. The video is now on their premium site so it’s no longer available. Maybe others that seen this can remember other things that were talked about. Love what u do Please keep ur reactions coming

I saw a comment on the original video saying that it gave off the vibe of a group of vampires welcoming you to dinner and that just fits so perfectly.
I guess most German speakers would agree that the very idea of serving Schnitzel with noodles is creepy in itself. They just expanded on the idea.
The appeal of a fridgerator filled with baby blood
What is delightful about autotune and manipulation? Oh, i guess you have to be a vampire to get it.
The Originals.

Thank you for all you do.🙂🙏🏼
You are so fun to watch... keep 'em coming!
First time hearing this song and they did great. Love the analysis
This channel is one of my favorite things ⭐
Kevin’s also a Cellist so it’s natural for him to use his fingering hand to make those gestures with his fingers as he does his thing… I love it! Lol
First time actually watching this video of Pentatonic, regardless of the commentary, which was so welcome.
First thought in those few moments, I said to myself, "This is "Interview With The Vampire" combine with the tea party in "Alice In Wonderland."
They nailed it... if that was the intention of course. 😊
They remind me of a cathedral's pipe organ with each one willing to create strong moments even if they are short and not out front.
You have some lovely communication skills! Thank you!
Thanks!
Thank you for the recommendations. Yes, this is the correct place to be! ❤
I am amazed how fast they can sing!
Love PTX right from the beginning.
But I wish you could explain to me why the early songs which I love the MOST
Versus these much more produced ones of the last few years. My feeling is that I can experience the actual voices in their early work. Am I crazy to feel this way??!!
I like that you moved your screen closer to the camera - then you don't feel so disconnected.
Absolute masterpiece
I'll never get over what Kirstin did to her face.
Really enjoyed this, thanks for sharing
Aw yes! I love this version SO much!!
This beautiful woman has to be the most adorable person on TH-cam. I always love you reactions. Keep up the great work you queen
Love what u do
Please keep ur reactions coming
Thanks for saving it for us Ms. Preggers
Love it spiced up.
I'd love to see you do reactions to vintage Crosby, Stills & Nash. Like maybe "Suite Judy Blue Eyes" or "Helplessly Hoping" for example.
The feel of this arrangement caught me off guard. I love it.
