- Dubbed the 'Thick Clicks' switches, the Novelkeys Box Jades are, as the name would suggest, clicky switches that set a precedent in mx style switch tactility. Still... too much of something is not necessary good.

I daily Novelkey Creams and then at night I use gateron red silent switches
I always have headphones on on my PC and box jades were the first clicky switch I have used that actually function as clicky when wearing headphones :) I work alone so I have no one to annoy. The FEELING of the switches is why I like them. If I didn't wear headphones, the sound would probably annoy me too, but yeah, not an issue for me. I have had complaints in game before, people saying it sounded like arcade microswitches xD They aren't wrong, that is exactly how they sound.
I wish they made tactile switches with the click bar. Great tactility, minus the ear-deafening.

Don't really have the time or resources to run a group buy, also AFAIK Kailh has the patents to the click bar and box design.

Heard the box royals also eventually turn clicky after a bit of use.
Your video convinced me to get box jades. As a long time Model M user, these are perfect for me. I work from home and my job is on average 10 hours of typing (programming/engineer work). I LOVE these switches. Dropped em in a Tofu 65 with a brass plate and no foam, the sound is lovely. Stabilised keys sound fantastic once you do your stab mods. CRISPY switches. The Crispiest.

Great channel! I loved the youtube video. I consider myself an enthusiast but never took the time to actually learn about the super technical aspect of each switch. Most higher end reviews go over my head for that reason but you did a great job explaining it so I could actually understand the way it worked. Just went and ordered a set for my gk64! I hope to see your channel grow immensely in the future so I can say I was one of the first 200 subs

I'm still faaaairly new to the hobby and am still definitely learning a lot of stuff so hopefully I'll be able to continue making reviews and what not like this. And the GK64! I have done some initial sound tests with this on a tester, and you're right. At the moment the jades sound like a holiday, but in the office, I would probably become enemy number 1. Looking at the Box Whites instead currently, because the click is softer.

Do the box navies feel heavy? Like do they make you tired easy because im trying to decide between the kalih box navy or pink or jade
...I... I really do like the sound of my Jades, but he is right on one thing. YOU WILL BOTTOM OUT... The tactility of the click bar for these things is absolutely massive and you just follow through all the way down with the Jades. That being said, I partially got these so that I didn't bottom out that often, and was sorta wondering if the weight of the navies cancels out the follow through of the click bar to the point where you don't just immediately bottom out.

@@nasser5000 Pushing the switch all the way to the bottom of its casing / key travel, as opposed to pressing the key down to just the actuation point (which is usually just after the click)

I also daily drive jades and a coworker mentioned how loud they were over teams last week. I picked up my Unicomp mini m and had him take a listen. And I said, well... I could be using that. He thanked me for the jades. 😂
since its a pretty high frequency my sister cant hear them in her room and I cant heat through my headphones! decided im gonna go for them as I found out the acuation is after the bump not the click, meaning they are great for keys like w in minecraft. its like a tactile clicky when you are typing, and linear when gaming, perfect!

I'm sure this was mentioned already, but changing the springs inside of the box jades fixes that slowness on the rebound. Basically the springs inside of them stock don't have enough force to alway shave the stem go all the way back up.

I just got some of these and love them. I like the sound a lot, and since I don't use my keyboard too often, I don't think I'll get tired if them. Definitely a couple dozen steps ahead of my previous outemu blues.

been watching mechanical keyboard videos for months now and you just pop up... +1 subscriber
still not as loud as my model f, but now that I have had both, my model f oddly enough doesnt irritate anyone in my house, whereas jades immediately get a complaint, though my sister uses clicky switches in her board as well(my old razer ornata) and everyone in our house is just used to it. Only reason I use a Topre as a backup is when I am gaming in a voice chat. There my model f is just simply inappropriate.
Honestly the best use for clickies to me is never in a full keyboard, but in a macropad or other "off to the side" thing, like a separate numpad if you need faster data entry.
Been watching keyboard stuff for months and I'm only just now finding this guy? Crazy. Love the content my friend keep it up!

@@acowo good for you! Although, you might wanna get used to typing as if you're angry, cause they are noticeably heavier than 99% of all other switches out there haha. Dont take my word for it though, I personally got used to it in less than a week, and love the tactility and clicks they make. Besides, if you dont like them, you could always sell them and get BOX Jades instead cause they're lighter and they still offer the satisfying T H I C C C L I C K S

Then I bought a vintage SMK 2nd Gen clicky board and I've been rotating between the three.

I’m daily driving box jade right now, I love the feel and sound but I typed so much slower with them for some reason
same! im typing so much slower with them lmao
It's because the double-click makes you feel like you're typing twice as much, so you get lazy. lol. Kidding aside, if you have very large hands, the thicker bump speeds you up because you make fewer mistakes with the heavy fingers and they plow right through the bumps. I can get over 100wmp on my clicky switches but only 75 to 85 on my linears due to the errors.
THIS CHANNEL IS AMAZING
Great video, and good editing! I might suggest normalizing your audio though (you can look up how to do that, it's just a few clicks). I chromecasted this to my TV and had to keep turning the audio up and down. And for parts you want to be comedically loud, you can use a compression effect (this gives the impression of loudness without actually affecting peak audio amplitude)!

I bought a set. I don't know why I bought a set, but I did. 100% agree about that weird feeling like they're sticking - the click bar provides some resistance on the upswing I guess. They are loud. The bump is short and fast - you hit it and you will finish up at the bottom. It's like the bump pushes your finger and the switch the rest of the way home.
But they are kinda fun. Typing required a certain amount of certainty - you don't second guess a click with these. I didn't mind the sound as much as I thought. But I'm back to my halos for now. I am waiting to hear what you say about Glorious Pandas ( you did get your promo boxes, didn't you?).

Ive used these switches stock for about a four months now, and I still love them. i guess I am deemed crazy now. (the click doesn't bother me at all, I love it)

Box click bar switches have a minimum spring weight for return force depending on the size of the click bar and the Box Jades are on the very edge of that minimum spring weighting so some of the switches are a bit slow to reset.
Box Royals have about the same tactility, but the end of the curve is stepped and slightly less sharp, plus they don't click. I would love to see you do a review on the Box Royals, the sound is truly amazing, and not enough youtubers have reviewed the switch. As a tactile enthusiast, I think it' be entertaining to see your take.
4:10 I have the exact same shinethrough SA keycaps on my GMMK. I agree with your review about the box jades. They are a fun novelty at first, but it gets old pretty quickly.

Currently on Box Navys with two-stage 45g springs (so effectively a bit lighter than Jades) and as someone who always prefered clicky switches (yes, I live by myself, how could you tell), I outright love the snappy click on these. Everything else in Cherry-likes just feels hollow and pingy by comparison.
