Bro I'm so excited for this. Getting it for shadow mainly at first, then I'll move on to previously released games for the headset and utilize any game on my pc. Can't wait to develop my own things as well Only played the daredevil vr teaser at a verison store and some star wars game at dave and busters and I'm YEARNING for my own
I recently watched a buddy of mine play through the Vader Immortal series. I've played it myself, but I think I almost enjoyed watching someone else react to it even more. There are other Star Wars VR games, but I really enjoyed the Vader Immortal series. Using the force in VR feels incredible.
@jadenthecommenter it was just a stationary advertisement for like season one or two of the show. It showed you abt three locations and you got to stand near the suit at the end. Can't for the life of me find it on youtube though or I'd link it
@gammasmash1924 ik that's the only thing I want to do if I go to Dave and bustera again. Also yeah I can't wait to let my family try stuff and (knowing the headset can survive in a dryer) hopefully have a funny stumble or two and not get hurt
This and half life alyx are the best VR game overall I've ever played. I always think about how insane VR tech would be by now if the tech had took off and there was a billion dollar market instead of flat screen games. I think we'd be being close to unimaginable immersivness by now. Hopefully we'll get there in my lifetime
Half Life 2 plus Episode 1 and 2 are my all time favourite VR experiences! Vertigo 2 is also amazing! I’m currently playing Half Life 1 in Vr and once I finish that I’ll start on Batman.
@jamesleegte interesting, you liked vertigo 2? I was excited for it when it released i played it on psvr 2 and honestly did not like it at all. Even after the patches it looked terrible imo. Ik alot of people liked it tho, just didn't land with me.
@@emandm1822 like many psvr 2 ports they messed it up and ended up being a very poor port. I play it on pc and that’s the true game and why it’s so loved on steam. It rubs shoulders with half life Alyx and if it wasn’t for the fact I’m a half life fan boy and completely biased, you could argue some aspects of the game are better than Alyx. I love vertigo 2 and played through a couple of times choosing different character’s and sides to play through with.
cannot wait to have 300 bucks to spend on this lol also can you turn hud off? (just thought of this but imagine a sort of take on the vr bat man where time was almost like real life. It would make everyday as bat man feel more realistic, plus would open possibilities for in depth detective situations that could take longer than 5 minutes to solve. I know that is basically impossible in vr but maybe one day lol, it would also open up more room to explore bruce wayne pov instead of just bat mans. Would have potential for moments where you are actively on to some one as the bat then have to cross paths with them as bruce in some way.)
this game is blowing my expectations out of the water! The combat lets you swing your arms and randomly punch dudes if that's what you're feeling that fight but it also has a system that you can learn that feels like a perfect translation from flat screen to vr. from countering off screen enemy's, to combos, to slow mo finishers, it's all here in vr and it feels great! the batarang is back and is as easy as as grabbing it off your chest and flicking it to the nearest enemy. The stealth has all the same features as well from swinging on gargoyles and splitting single enemy's away from the group to get them when know one is looking to skulking around the vents on the way to your next opportunity. The writing doesn't feel like it was made to be campy or stupid but it feels like a full on arkham series writing. I havnt finished the story so i cant speak to the quality of the overall plot but the moment to moment dialogue doesnt feel cheap which is something i was worried about for an out of no one vr entree to a nonvr series. This game kept making me say wow, and made me feel even more like batman then arkham asylum did back when it was first released. I wish this game wasnt a quest exclusive though because I kept wanting to glide around the city like you can in arkham city and knight but so far the game has kept me to a more linear design. I understand that the hardware wouldnt allow for the same level of detail that the game currently has if they did open this game up to open world flying around so I understand why they left the free roaming to games with access to more engine power but I would still love to see that happen in the next ten years or so in another vr batman game. This game is now my second favorite vr game just under resident evil village so I seriously hope this game gets all the commercial success it deserves so that more great games like this can be made, lord knows we need them after games like the new assassins creed, suicide squad and concord all coming out and flopping this year.
This game is actually crazy fun! I hear some people complaining about not being able to punch however you want, but I think that the pattern based sorta combat is actually really cool, almost beat saber-like. Once you really lock in and let insticts take over you aren't even really thinking about following the patterns and that's when it really gets fun!
would love to play it, but it’s a MetaQuest 3 exclusive. they announced on MetaQuest 2 that it was gonna be released for some reason. I’m just glad we’re still getting Arkham games.
I’ve been playing the game on quest 2 and it runs really good. You can just buy the game and then “pirate” the game for quest 2. I had to do the same thing for resident evil 4 when I only had the quest 1. I think locking a game that runs great on previous hardware to the newest console is a bit scummy but at least we have workarounds
@@IJustLucasI you can just use rookie side loader to download and install it to your quest. It doesn’t check what type of quest you have. It just downloads the app to it so you can run non quest 2 apps
I plan to get this game next week, definitely looking forward to finally playing a AAA level game on the Quest, I'll finally be able to justify getting my Meta Quest 3 as well
Loads of great experiences on Q3 so this is one of the cherries on top..as for the strap ...flip a baseball cap and wear it over the top..works great and it's free
The one thing I will say about this game is that if you already have a Quest 3 og 3S then you really really need to get it if you already like the Arkham series or Batman in general. You will feel more like Batman than ever before.
I loved this game so much, I figured out who the rat king was nearing the end and before the final reveal i was just completely in denial. I thought a certain scene in the courthouse completely tarnished the lore of the game. But I replayed some older ones and it turns out it fits, it can be canon. This is one of my favorite vr story games but I had some bugs, during the cutscenes it was very pixelily. I crashed maybe 8 times throughout the game. But it may be because my headset is old.
Not sure if your interested in trying out other VR games to cover, but if you are willing I recommend Battle Talent VR and Blade & Sorcery Nomad. Both of these games are definitely all about gameplay-battle talent has a lack of really any story at all, and Blade & Sorcery has a story but it’s definitely more lore heavy than an actually railroad story. But both games are some of the best VR melee/fantasy combat games on the meta quest, and both are only 20$ I love both of them to death, definitely top 5 VR games of all time imo
I really hope there's an option to get rid of all of the numbers while you're fighting. I think numbers flying out of a person as you're punching them takes away from the immersion.
Now we need a horror VR game as a thug being hunted by Batman The first person segment of Arkham Knight had me scared as it was but a survival horror out running the Batman would be terrifying
It may be a great game, but I already bought my Quest 3 when it first came out and there was no indication at that time about a Quest 3S or Batman game. If I do think about getting the Batman game in the future, it will only be when it is on sale at a very cheap price, under 20 dollars and becomes a STEAM game - which may never happen. So, I am in no hurry to get this game. I have many other great action games to play in VR on STEAM.
My favourite vr game and one of my favourite batman experiences of all time. The Arkham series is my favourite series of all time and id place this 2nd on my list of all time favourite arkham games.
One thing that ruins these games for me, is that there are several headsets on the market but so many vr games are exclusive to the quest. I have an older rift s just laying around becauee most of the games id actually want to play are exclusive to the quest, and nobody should buy a second VR headset for a game.
@@Kafka.10 that's not a good comparison, that's like saying your monitor is too outdated to play a game. The rift is a pc based headset, it's not standalone. it can still play modern games with absolutely no problem.
If you're getting a quest, yes, a new headstrap is almost a must. But don't get the meta branded deluxe strap. It's way overpriced. There are 3rd parties that make much better ones with more features for far less.
The one thing I want from stand alone VR is being able to interact with everything. I know it’s not a PC playing Half-Life Alyx but if you put something like a fridge or anything a chair anything the best part of VR for me is interacting with it all.
Another good option is to get a quest 3 or 3S to play batman, assassin's creed and a few others games and then sell it if you dont find anything else to play
your hooks are being misread with your wide and quick swings. that jolt to the side is causing that direction to be your input. slow down on the wind up or go for a cross jab.
I bought myself a 3 mainly because of arkham shadows and i got it for free when i got it but i planed on playing other vr games as well so its a very good investment
@jamespopcornfrfr Yes. The fighting is nothing like Arkham games. It's just trying to replicate the look of a fight. You just have to punch in the direction it tells you to.
The Game itself was really good, the story was interesting, and the pacing was perfect. I really love the inspiration they took from Arkham Asylum as it is my favorite of the series. HOWEVER: MY GOD is the game broken, almost nothing worked, at the start of the game I got soft locked because a gate was clipping through the floor stopping me from climbing through a vent. Without over exaggerating, the amount of times that I was either soft locked because progression didnt work, got stuck in a room, predator sections were empty, or my game just straight up crashing was at the VERY LEAST 20 times. The game isn't that long its about 6 or 7 hours in length, so trust me when I say with each and every soft lock I got more and more frustrated, the final mission of the game just KEPT breaking for me it was so frustrating I genuinely started crashing out. I'd wait to buy this game a couple of days later when they release a patch as it'll (Hopefully) fix most if not all the problems I had.
Just finished the game. This might be interesting because I am coming from the complete opposite side. 😅 Never played any Batman Arkham game, or generally any flatscreen game whatsoever. And I did not see the identity of the rat king coming. Sure, in hindsight it makes a lot of sense and the game plays with matching ideas and concepts a lot and early. But if you are not a die hard Arkham (or Batman) fan, it might still catch you by surprise... Oh, also: I tried, and the stuttering pretty much went away when I wasn't recording at the same time. Seeing how the uploader obviously recorded much of his experience, this might not apply if you simply okay the game.
I would've bought it by now if it was not Meta exclusive. I think at the very least these games should consider porting it to steamVR so that a majority of the VR headsets available could be used with it. As it stands, its another one that i will end up missing out on unfortunately. I will say Camoflauge have done a great job based on the footage i've seen. iron man vr was also a great game at the time minus the story.
You might want to pick a meta quest for the following reasons 1. Thats where all the money is going for big budget games 2. Pcvr games are coming to quest via cloud streaming 3. Pcvr just isnt the future of vr its standalone. Maybe you should hold off till theres a more powerful one but if your serious about vr games it might be wise to have one even if you use it as a pcvr headset
Buy a quest 3 because it’s amazing to watch movies and Netflix on, it’s got awesome games on the quest platform and I can play all my pcvr games on steam wirelessly using virtual desktop.
My regret is that I bought meta quest 3 the expensive version early to play Batman then heard news cheaper version coming out with the game on it and now I’m also buying game I did play other games like iron man,Vader immortal and assassins creed but Arkham shadow looks to be best game
If you bought in late September just talk to the meta team they will give you the credits to buy the game I just got it today the same way I got mine on September 20th
You came out with the better headset for the long run. I haven't really looked in to the 3S, but I believe that one is more a less a slightly upgraded Quest 2. I don't think you will have any regrets with the 3.
My one personal deal-breaker is that it's exploration is more indoors, and not nearly as much outdoors over the city rooftops and streets. The first CGI teaser had me HOPING it would be like Arkham City/Knight in it's open world, but I'm guessing the headset couldn't handle that without a big graphical cutback.
@@Throbingkcoc The budget for this was through the roof for a Quest exclusive. But the open world design was likely due to the hardware, if they wanted to retain it's graphical quality.
@@ianmitchell5979 Nah I actually prefer that way than a bloated open world that I know I will never finish I prefer Assassins Creed VR than the flatscreen games for the same reason
I just hope that as gamers we become more patient and less cynical towards VR games. When the announcement for this game came out, I remember the absolute negative backlash to it.
Off topic: I absolutely disagree on a new entry "ruining" a previous entry. If an old entry was enjoyable before the new entry, then it's still good now. Even in the case of retcons, the term *retroactive continuity* admits it wasn't that way from the start, and so the old entry still works as originally intended. On topic: Great review! The developer interviews have been really selling me on buying the cheaper Meta Quest 3S ($300) because Shadow is just looking to be so quality and lovingly made. I looked on the Meta store and there seems to be a pretty swell collection of games on there. Shooters, melee/sword combat, traversal games, and even funny looking titles such as "Gorilla Tag" and "Hide the Corpse." I think I'm gonna take the plunge.
bit of a spoiler but The falcone fight at blackgate really took a number out of me, I dunno if i was just being delusional but i swear that boss fight was wild. I aint complaining about it btw, it's a good fight.
I think we should take your opinion with a grain of salt. When you are given TWO free VR headset, you can’t be fully impartial about your opinion. To me it introduces a bias where you want to give some recognition for the things you were given. Companies know that and this is why they give youtubers free gift in order to lay down on the criticism. Anyway, thanks for sharing that bias right at the start
I think you should take it with a bag of salt honestly. That’s why I mention the special treatment before I get into the review, I wanna make sure people know what those biases are and can adjust their expectations accordingly.

I was already interested in getting the quest 3s and this sold me on it, excited to get both!
Just saying be ready to buy a separate face pice and head strap. What it comes with are torture devices
For people buying a Quest to play this game - be aware you can also play all of the original DOOM games, all of the 90s Build Engine games (e.g. Duke 3D), Quake 1 & 2, Half-Life, Doom 3, and even the original Prey FOR FREE. Team Beef has released free VR ports for each (and more) - you just need to copy some game files from your PC. Oh, these ports support mods as well (Brutal Doom in VR is awesome). There is quite a lot of free & cool stuff you can do with Quest.
Probably sold me on One right there.

It was so obvious the Rat King was Master Splinter the moment he entered the story.
CHILL WITB THE SPOILERS
Crazy how people were hating on it before they saw any gameplay revealed
People are hating because it’s an exclusive vr game
Blame Rocksteady
Bro I'm so excited for this. Getting it for shadow mainly at first, then I'll move on to previously released games for the headset and utilize any game on my pc. Can't wait to develop my own things as well
Only played the daredevil vr teaser at a verison store and some star wars game at dave and busters and I'm YEARNING for my own
I recently watched a buddy of mine play through the Vader Immortal series. I've played it myself, but I think I almost enjoyed watching someone else react to it even more. There are other Star Wars VR games, but I really enjoyed the Vader Immortal series. Using the force in VR feels incredible.
Daredevil vr ?
@jadenthecommenter it was just a stationary advertisement for like season one or two of the show. It showed you abt three locations and you got to stand near the suit at the end.
Can't for the life of me find it on youtube though or I'd link it
@gammasmash1924 ik that's the only thing I want to do if I go to Dave and bustera again.
Also yeah I can't wait to let my family try stuff and (knowing the headset can survive in a dryer) hopefully have a funny stumble or two and not get hurt
I really recommend trying RE4 VR on the quest. It almost feels like the original game was designed for VR
How funny/sad is it that a small studio making a VR game, had more respect for Arkham and Batman, than the Tourists at the "NEW" Rocksteady did.
Camouflaj also did the Iron Man VR game which was great. These guys seem to have nailed how to make you feel like a superhero.
12:46 I love the image of Batman missing a punch and having a little fit of rage at his hands mid-fight.
Asgard Wrath 2 is pretty dang good too. There’s a lot going on in that game.
Question: are you playing half life Alyx on Quest 3 through PC?
Just played it and holy shit its amazing
cannot wait to have 300 bucks to spend on this lol also can you turn hud off?
(just thought of this but imagine a sort of take on the vr bat man where time was almost like real life. It would make everyday as bat man feel more realistic, plus would open possibilities for in depth detective situations that could take longer than 5 minutes to solve. I know that is basically impossible in vr but maybe one day lol, it would also open up more room to explore bruce wayne pov instead of just bat mans. Would have potential for moments where you are actively on to some one as the bat then have to cross paths with them as bruce in some way.)
why’d they release this on a monday 😭😭😭😭
i want to play it so bad but i got shit to do
By the time mine finishes downloading on my slow as molasses internet, I will also have sh*t to do 😭
@Drstrange3000 I have fairly decent internet and mine still took like 4 hours to download.
It's better to wait a little bit anyway. Potential bugs will be patched soon by the look of it.
Imagine a dlc for the game like Harley Quinn’s revenge or cold cold heart that tells robins origin story within the Arkhamverse
this game is blowing my expectations out of the water!
@@PompeiSurvivor how did you “pirate” it onto the quest 2 though?
@@IJustLucasI you can just use rookie side loader to download and install it to your quest. It doesn’t check what type of quest you have. It just downloads the app to it so you can run non quest 2 apps
I plan to get this game next week, definitely looking forward to finally playing a AAA level game on the Quest, I'll finally be able to justify getting my Meta Quest 3 as well
Bro this is an EXCELLENT review, thank you! I hope you continue dipping your feet in VR, there’s soooo many fun games out there
Loads of great experiences on Q3 so this is one of the cherries on top..as for the strap ...flip a baseball cap and wear it over the top..works great and it's free
One of the best games i have ever played. It's definitely in contention for #1
Next up. Spider-Man!!! Cmon camouflage you can do it!
Dang I was about to disagree with the “tarnished” take, but you’re right. That does happen. Bummer.
3:45 the multiple punches looks so ridiculous on this one, exactly like my three year old hits the pots when he's playing a drummer.
i mean that's how the guy punches
He punches like a gorilla
@BestGame215 yes I know 🤦♂️ And it looks ridiculous.
@@lepari9986stop being salty.
@@Throbingkcoc sthu
The one thing I will say about this game is that if you already have a Quest 3 og 3S then you really really need to get it if you already like the Arkham series or Batman in general. You will feel more like Batman than ever before.
You’ve come so freakin’ far, Aqua. It’s so cool to hear that they invited you for feedback and all!
Batman AS is unbelievable! 🤩
But it may be because my headset is old.
now all we need is an insomniac spiderman vr game and life will be complete..
I’ve installed the game and will start it next week. I’m currently playing half life 1 in VR and it’s amazing!
9:49 Gordon has to be getting tired of this, but what is he gonna do? That's Batman
9:50 i love this so much lmao
Hearing the $500 quest 3 be called a budget headset is crazy to me😭 I know it’s probably true but I saved for so long for this headset lol
Based on the finger guns I think you might be the best Batman to date.
you would date Aqua if he was batman??? 😳
@@melaniejit7438 I'd date him right now, if he was batman that would hardly change anything. Except I guess I could dress up as Robin.
I really hope they add more challenge maps!
Thanks foe the spoiler free and writing it so we know. Very helpful
I’ve played a lot of this game in 2 days, my arms are so sore but the game is so good
I'm sad that this game is VR only since I can't play VR games but I'm really happy that the devs made such a good job
I really hope there's an option to get rid of all of the numbers while you're fighting. I think numbers flying out of a person as you're punching them takes away from the immersion.
Honestly I still don’t have vr headset which is a shame because this game looked fun.
I think the biggest problem with your wrong direction take is that some of your straight punches are too angled
Now we need a horror VR game as a thug being hunted by Batman
The first person segment of Arkham Knight had me scared as it was but a survival horror out running the Batman would be terrifying
Assassin's creed nexus was 1 of the reasons I got the quest 3 and oh boy I'm glad I did.
Great review!
Thats because the rift is ancient... Its like saying I have a ps2 no one should have to buy a ps5 to enjoy the new games.
@@Kafka.10 that's not a good comparison, that's like saying your monitor is too outdated to play a game. The rift is a pc based headset, it's not standalone. it can still play modern games with absolutely no problem.
10 hours is a major understatement
If you're getting a quest, yes, a new headstrap is almost a must. But don't get the meta branded deluxe strap. It's way overpriced. There are 3rd parties that make much better ones with more features for far less.
The game looks awesome! I have heard complaints about bugs though so I’ll buy it during a sale or when they release a few patches
The one thing I want from stand alone VR is being able to interact with everything. I know it’s not a PC playing Half-Life Alyx but if you put something like a fridge or anything a chair anything the best part of VR for me is interacting with it all.
9:45 is how I've been playing this entire game.
I think your right but damn it feels so good to go fast it almost makes me feel like Batm-
@@ThatBoyAqua Batman winds up his hits too though :)
I’m excited to play this myself, but I can’t also help but to imagine how good this would look if it was on PCVR as well
Exactly
If you want to play more great vr games on quest, I recommend you to try Into The Radius. Its pretty close to be stalker in vr 😊
Great review btw 👍
metro awakening and also into the radius 2 quest 3 are things look forward to
Love it! Going to buy a second Meta Quest 3!
I bought myself a 3 mainly because of arkham shadows and i got it for free when i got it but i planed on playing other vr games as well so its a very good investment
Im loving the lore that fells like im watching the animated series
It just tells you what direction to swipe your fist.
There's no customization on how you beat people up.
That sucks.
have you actually played the game?
@jamespopcornfrfr Yes. The fighting is nothing like Arkham games. It's just trying to replicate the look of a fight. You just have to punch in the direction it tells you to.
@ i mean yeah but that’s also what it’s like in the arkham games. you still choose where to go and what enemies to fight
@jamespopcornfrfr It's the equivalent of QTE when youte forced to swipe your first in a specific direction. It's not at all the same.
I'd wait to buy this game a couple of days later when they release a patch as it'll (Hopefully) fix most if not all the problems I had.
i love how nobody brings up sushi squad
and wouldn't you know it, I happen to be on holiday for a week right when the game releases.
Cant wait to get home and start it now
Idk I'm worried the combat doesn't look that fun like it tells me what I have to do to fight is it more fun than it looks
yes
Well Asgards Wrath 2 comes with Meta Quest + now which is also included in a new Quest 3/3s purchase so it’s definitely worth it
Amazing review 🎉 thank you ✌️
Combat reminds me of the training sequences in the Creed VR game
You really have to play Blade and Sorcery if you wanna get more into VR
This is the second arkham vr game btw
Feels like you have 400k subs
Really needs a PCVR version imho.
Thanks for no spoilers
I just hopea fingers crossed that this game comes to psvr2 later
I would've bought it by now if it was not Meta exclusive. I think at the very least these games should consider porting it to steamVR so that a majority of the VR headsets available could be used with it. As it stands, its another one that i will end up missing out on unfortunately. I will say Camoflauge have done a great job based on the footage i've seen. iron man vr was also a great game at the time minus the story.
There is no way they will port it steam
You might want to pick a meta quest for the following reasons 1. Thats where all the money is going for big budget games 2. Pcvr games are coming to quest via cloud streaming 3. Pcvr just isnt the future of vr its standalone. Maybe you should hold off till theres a more powerful one but if your serious about vr games it might be wise to have one even if you use it as a pcvr headset
Buy a quest 3 because it’s amazing to watch movies and Netflix on, it’s got awesome games on the quest platform and I can play all my pcvr games on steam wirelessly using virtual desktop.
@@musicaltymes Fair enough, I will probably wait until the quest 4 comes out some day. There's other games I can play for now. Thanks for the advice.
@@Akk1cswait hiw
You came out with the better headset for the long run. I haven't really looked in to the 3S, but I believe that one is more a less a slightly upgraded Quest 2. I don't think you will have any regrets with the 3.
Also you should try out Asgards Wrath 2.
Quest 3 is better then the quest 3s.
Real question is when are going to make a Superman game
Answer is yes
It's amazing. I would tell anyone wondering it's a must buy. I mean maybe not if you dont like Batman. It's so good. They nailed it. SO immersive too.
The best standalone VR game ever made. Some of the best pacing in any VR game and competes with Half Life: Alyx.
I think that's ok, long they do well what's within those limitations.
They did mention the map size is more like arkham asylum
Baby steps. If this game does well the next game will have a higher budget and probably add open world traversal.
@@Throbingkcoc The budget for this was through the roof for a Quest exclusive.
But the open world design was likely due to the hardware, if they wanted to retain it's graphical quality.
@@ianmitchell5979 Nah I actually prefer that way than a bloated open world that I know I will never finish
I prefer Assassins Creed VR than the flatscreen games for the same reason
I just hope that as gamers we become more patient and less cynical towards VR games. When the announcement for this game came out, I remember the absolute negative backlash to it.
I want another Iron Man vr game
Off topic: I absolutely disagree on a new entry "ruining" a previous entry. If an old entry was enjoyable before the new entry, then it's still good now. Even in the case of retcons, the term *retroactive continuity* admits it wasn't that way from the start, and so the old entry still works as originally intended.
On topic: Great review! The developer interviews have been really selling me on buying the cheaper Meta Quest 3S ($300) because Shadow is just looking to be so quality and lovingly made. I looked on the Meta store and there seems to be a pretty swell collection of games on there. Shooters, melee/sword combat, traversal games, and even funny looking titles such as "Gorilla Tag" and "Hide the Corpse." I think I'm gonna take the plunge.
bit of a spoiler but
The falcone fight at blackgate really took a number out of me, I dunno if i was just being delusional but i swear that boss fight was wild.
Just played it nothing he said was a lie
I own the game and he wasn’t “biased” enough because the game is amazing! TH-cam doesn’t do this game justice until YOU experience it firsthand 😎
Would like to try it sometime.. it's getting a damn headset 🤣
game is packed full of game breaking bugs and easy cheese. still an amazing game. thought i hard locked my game because i broke a battery for a door. turns out, that was for a collectable, the real right way was just an unlocked door to the right
Thankfully 90% of them just got fixed with the new update
