Could you possibly do a video review on how you process the audio recording once inside Ableton,ie Eq,limiter, low cut, high cut, compression etc. It would be great to get that polished, professional sound when uploading and playback in Soundcloud etc. Many thanks.
@@rosta2899 1. Low cut at 28-30Hz 2. Don't need to compress, all the tracks are mastered anyway 3. MoJaxx! I've been looking for a good way to record my live sets for YEARS. Reading reviews upon reviews of many different multitrack recorders. I wanted to be able to get room sound as well as clean line level audio. I finally saw this video, and trusted your input on the DR-40. So I bought one, and used it last night for a 6 hour set here in Minneapolis, MN (USA). Just listened to the tracks... and it's PERFECT! Thank you so much for this brief tutorial, and product recommendation! I'll share a link when the files are done uploading!
Here is a set recorded with the Tascam DR-40 with all 4 channels (internal mic's, with line outs from a DJM900nxs): www.mixcloud.com/teddymac/blend-session-the-loft-mpls-7-23-16/

Hey there! I just bought a new DR-40V2, but I can't get a proper sound out of it when trying to record a DJ set via LINE IN. The sound is not proper quality (not clean), it sound kind of waterish .. Have you since found you need an attenuator with the DJM 600 rec out to WAV recording on the dr40x? I've just bought the dr40x. Am I okay to just rely on the tascam in built limiter? Thank you
Picked up the Tascam DR-44WL today to record some of my record collection. The playback sound quality is tip top, HiRes Audio. Do your research, peoples.
how does it work? I have a pioneer djm and am considering the h4n but if the attenuator isn't going to work well all around with it.... thanks in advance
Hello, thanks for your videos, I would like to know what’s the best option for recording sets in HIGH QUALITY audio, which one it’s better for this purpose, Zoom, tascam or evermix? Are handy recorders better than evermix? Please help, if there is no difference at all I’ll buy evermix...
Rewatching this...I took a chance on a cheap original Zoom h4...which won’t record 4 tracks simultaneously...but I’m going to test the line inputs before I relist it on eBay...as I know you can change the usb record attenuation on the DJM-750mk2 via the utility. I want to see if this changes the physical record output too

I have a DR-05 too, it's what I run my microphone into in all these videos! But yes, it can be a problem getting it to cope with line level. My suggestion would be to check out the -25db Fentronix attenuator I demoed in the live streaming video a few weeks ago on this channel. I originally bought that attenuator to use with my DR-05 to record my sets. It's cheap, they ship worldwide, and it will do the job nicely. Obviously the 05 is only a 2 channel recorder so you can't do crowd noise too, regardless.
Hey It mayb sounds weird but I tried an earphone In-Line Volume Control cable and it worked out pretty good for my DR-05. Hi, Is there a good iPhone App that could be used to record DJ sets, buy using a RCA to Mini Jack cable. RCA plugged into the Record Out on a mixer, and the Mini Jack plugged into the Headphone port on a iPhone. Then record the audio coming into the iPhone with a App. ???
The TASCAM DR-60D is another good field recorder battery life on it isnt that great however it is full of features. If you purchase an external battery like the 10,000 mah KMASHI from ebay or Amazon that makes the DR-60D a powerhouse.
The 60D does look absolutely killer as an all-round recorder (I'd love one for shooting these videos), but as it has no built-in mics, it would be a lot more hassle for the particular application we're talking about here.
Thx for your tutorial! Do you have your recorded set anywhere to listen? im wondering that there are no phaseinterferences because you record the PA Signal too...? Thx a lot
I might add another plus with this recorder... it is battery powered, but it can be powered via the USB cable it comes with. I've been powering it off the CDJ, and when disconnected it keeps recording off battery power. It's been perfect!
How would those microphones not just record the music you’re playing out loud? How would it pic up crowd noise and not just be overpowered by the music?
The presented 4-channel option allows you to record seperately the signal (directly picked up) from your mixer and the crowd (with your music from PA) recorded with the internal mics on your recorder. At postproduction you can use now the mixer signal to minimize your music on the mic signal. Kinda like active noise canceling works. And than decide how much you wanna have your crowd heard on your mix ;-)
@@markyruss As decribed it at the post up there: you're using all 4 channels at the 4-channel-method. Two pairs of inputs at the same time: first pair directly pickking up from the mixing console (L+R = 2 Ch) AND the second pair records from the internal microphones (again: L+R = 2 Ch). That means you have the stereorecord from the mic's and the direct pickup. (Mic L+R) + (Mixer L+R) = 4 channel recording. The recorder (specially the Mic's) should be positioned the right way, in front of the DJ heading to the crowd, and if possible not directly within the monitors speaker range to reduce the music on the "crowd-recording" and any possible delays. The Pa should have been set up the right way too, means the speakers are aligned to the crowd and leveled up the right way. You can't record crowd without recording the music in the background. But you can use this music on that record "crowdrecord" to sync the both records (Mic's(= Crowd) and Mixer) together and use filters on the crowd recording to reduce music. Than you level the volume and stereo effect of the crowd and mix it onto your clean musicrecording. Violá! Kinda tricking, but works fine for me ;-)
Can anyone recommend some settings or tweaks for recording a set at a club? I'm wondering if anyone's already figured some things with the filters and stuff in the settings.
