Awesome video, Matt! My late father was a P&G sales rep his entire working life (started fresh out of college in 1956), and I, being a lifelong P&G shareholder, really enjoyed seeing this. So cool.
Good Gentlemen, over more than 40 years of independent market research, I failed many dozens of times. But from each failure, I took away the priceless lesson of what not to do: of setting aside what does NOT work, and focusing & refining what does work. I KNOW of what you speak. Matt, this was and is a wonderful story of a very successful organization who learned and applied the LESSONS of EXPERIENCE and FAILURE. THANK YOU!
Funny how Greg admitted the 2nd blade of the Trac 2 is designed to cut the whisker beneath where it normally lies beneath the skin. That's pretty much the definition of how to cause ingrown hairs. Nonetheless I'm envious of your opportunity to tour. Great video!
Amazingly fantastic, fascinating video! Thanks for taking the time to bring The Heritage Center to the people who are passionate about wet-shaving. Great job! Looking forward to Part 2!!
Definitely cool! It started out a bit corporate but came down to earth as the talk of walking in on your dad shaving came along. It took me back to the 70’s when I’d see both my dad and and grandpa getting their day started. That’s part of the success of having heritage connections. You connect with the heart and you’re in.
@@RazorEmporium hey Matt! Thank you 🙏 you showed us something we’d never know exists! Can’t wait for the next chapter! And a navy set? Didn’t know that existed either!
Amazingly done! Congratulations to Razor Emporium crew and Greg. Lovely to see that, to get into the history and all. Dude I wish I could go there visit! Can't wait for part 2!
Would have liked to hear more about Old Spice and any formulations changes they made from Shulton (if any). Wish P&G would come out with a limited time or holiday bundle of the Old Spice shaving soap pucks and aftershave!
This is so interesting and informative..this should actually be on Cable TV as a mini documentary! Well done…Cheers from Nova Scotia..MikeR. (Kudos as well to Greg, truly a great historian and archivist. P& G are lucky to have found someone like him! )
Excellent video Matt! I enjoyed the P&G and Gillette history blend. Glad you both discussed the Trac II & KCG line in the video. I want to get a hold of the Gillette Razor line up poster he had in there. From what I remember there are a few on it that are not on the Gillette websites lineup image. The couple in particular are the sensor and sensor excel. Thank you Matt!
Great video! Very well done. For years, I was a Foamy user as well (like your host) Loved that product until they changed the scent. Now, it’s a no go for me. I wished he commented on the thought process of why they would change such a good product ( for the worse in my opinion).
Wow, this is really interesting. I love going to museums. My family recently went to Hershey, PA and the Hershey Museum. It was very interesting learning about the history of chocolate 🍫 and Hershey. This was equally interesting.
I've been to both Hershey and to Smith Falls, Ontario (no longer there, now). Always fun. The Hershey one was getting worn out the last time, which is part of why they were looking at relocating the plant outside of the town.
What a privilege to be able to see the heritage center, and have an insight into the business model behind some of the products. It was obvious to see you were thrilled to be there, as would I be. Looking forward to part 2. Nice one Matt 👊
Howdy Matt and Co.! I’m loving this two part series. The Trac II is very nostalgic to me as it was my first shave when I was 14. My older brother let me borrow his Trac II to get me presentable for my other brother’s wedding. I still think it was the best cart ever made. I used it for many, many years. 👍🏼🤠👍🏼
Hi Matt, I really enjoyed watching this video! I actually like most of your videos, but this one stands out because of the enthusiasm of you and Greg, who seems like a very nice and knowledgeable guy, very proud of P&G. I am looking forward to part two! 👍😊
This was fun! I will never buy into the multi blade options, as they rip off the lubrication from the shave. I learned this in my 30's, when I went searching for "stop razor burn". Much appreciated. Enjoying the Super Adjustable you guys restored for me (yes, birth year and quarter).
Fabulous tour. So much cool learning here. I love that P&G does this. A lot of companies could learn from this approach. Really intrigued by King C. Gillette brand too. That's quite interesting and looks like a boutique branding which is a pivot for P&G versus their recent history as far as I know, but drug store available so likely to capture the "I saw a cool DE razor or grooming kit online and this looks very much like it" crowd. I'm curious to see how their DE razor stacks up in reviews.
The King C Gillette is a solid razor. It’s basically a Muhle R89/Edwin Jagger DE89 knockoff. It even comes with a tuck of Gillette Platinum blades. It’s a great little introductory setup. Now if only Gillette would market their DE blades domestically at a decent price!
Such an incredible video. Matt, razor emporium not only has great products and services, but also has an impressive video team. This was amazing. Cant wait for part 2! BTW.... Thanks for the coupon code Ive already put that to good use!
Hey Matt! Thanks so much for sharing this unique video! I actually have that navy set!! I found it at a thrift store! It still has the mirror too! The razor is a blueish gray color. The case is a bit beat up, but is still intact! The razor is in very good condition! The mirror isn't perfect, but it has no cracks! I haven't seen any of these on ebay, so I plan on holding onto it! Can't wait for part 2 of this series! JimG
I was never into shaving and marketing, but after so many years of going through my life and ( sad to say some big misfortunes ) I've come to the conclusion that it's just ok to enjoy myself and appreciate the little time that is just for me. Marketing wise I think it great to see a company that has made a wall of misfortunes and shows them to people ( way to go P.G. ) I'm in for the other part ( and perhaps a behind the scenes :) )
Great video that made me think more about Gillette in light of its most recent marketing folly, which cost them substantial market share. I would be very curious to see if Gillette learned any lessons about embracing Corporate Equity Index accreditation from the Human Rights Commission so that they could access lines of credit at more favorable rates with a higher HRC-designated DEI score. And if they did learn anything, what was the lesson?
Great first part! What I like a lot about P&G are their commitments to cruelty-free products. The cheap (I bought it on sale for only € 11,-) King C. Gillette DE razor is in my opinion a very good safety razor, very smooth. Also still have a very cheap non-adjustible old butterfly razor with a black plastic handle, made in England (!). It's also decent in its shaving performance. Thanks Matt🙏
I learned a lot and as someone who has a negative view on these big companies in modern days, the history buff in me will probably change his mind and soften his heart tward them when I look more into there history.
Im going to watch this again then go to bed I have to work tonight. Butt its a Friday, aren't we due for a live shave video here in a little while? Maybe I'll stay up and see... I dont have to be at work til 4pm I'm showered and shaven as long as I can get 6 or 7 hours of sleep ill be fine lol.
I love my 'original' plastic Trac II! However, I found a chrome plated, metal frame T-2 handle in a leather bound shave kit at the Salvation Army store in Rutland VT. I don't like that the Gillette T-2 replacement cartridges are W A Y too expensive. Also, I can't allow my whiskers to grow more than 2-3 days because the hairs are too long and clog the cartridge. That's when I have to use my DE Red Tip, refurbished Gillette, nickel plated handle. {Thanks Matt!} There's only one company that makes the T-2 cartridge that is close to the originals that I found on Amazon whose price is reasonable that the Teflon strip doesn't melt in hot water and the blades are sharp enough to last me up to five (5) shaves. That company will remain nameless for risk those blades will become too expensive for me to justify as well.
If you get a chance, that is if you haven’t already, please ask that they start their safety razor line back up again. I think everyone would love to see them at least come out with one more safety razor either a two piece or TTO. By the way, you are awesome and I love this kind of content. I hope you do another video in the future with their updated Gillette area.
We address this in part 2. It's a reality that will never happen and for obvious reasons. The heritage razor and King C are the only DE's that will ever say Gillette ever again.
My only criticism of this video was that, often the tour guide would be pointing to and discussing a particular item or exhibit but the camera was not showing us what he was pointing at, instead only showing him. It would have been nice to see what he was showing and teaching us about.
@@RazorEmporium I understand. Yeah, that's a shame because if anything, one would think that it would help their brand seeing it's history in a museum exhibit.
I notice in the entire 'lift and cut' discussion, there was no mention of the failure involved in that - if your hair isn't perfectly straight, you end up with 25% chance to end up with an ingrown hair. At the point, all their testing was done with straight haired folks.
