Drove for over 35 years and never had a truck with Jakes. Never smoked any or caught any on fire. The right gear is the answer

Stab braking is still in the manual and the permit test. And if I'm not mistaken there's snubbing, which I think was the same as stabbing. Great content.

    Possible wheel seal leak also.

Yeah that's possible but if he had stopped at the brake check area most likely would have caught that. Maybe he'll stop next time.

Sad thing is these drivers aren’t properly trained on just about anything, they literally give them the keys and tell them to go, so not only are they putting themselves in danger but also everyone around them

Unfortunately it's been like that for many many years. When I first went to truck driving school I realized quickly all they wanted to do was get me my CDL and then out the door. I made them teach us how to adjust brakes, drop and hook trailers, and how to slide tandems. They were not happy about that because nobody ever asked such questions and they didn't want to look bad when I was pointing out the obvious that they weren't teaching us valuable skills. So basically they were forced into teaching more than they bargain for. Same thing goes for my trainer at the first company I worked at. He just wanted to make that extra money and I made him show me how to do multiple things without just blowing through it. He told me nobody had ever asked to learn more than what he did. I was serious about this truck driving thing when I got into it but then again I'm kind of like that with everything.

You’re absolutely right, I was blessed to start with a company that actually cared about showing you how to properly drive and back a truck, my trainer was beyond helpful, although I was beyond frustrated, he would take me to one of our main accounts and show me how to back up, it was a very difficult place to back, but when he put it in a different perspective such as “Would you rather hit a truck at a truck stop? Or mess up here?” They need more trainers that actually want to train and not just collect a bonus, but like you had said it’s been happening for many years and will more than likely never change

Idk but he saved the load and was able to etop. He did all the right things. 😮

I agree he did get it stopped and he did save the load but doing all the right things would not be part of this scenario for sure. It all started when he didn't bother stopping at the brake check area which legally you have to and then it went down hill from there no pun intended.

-He didn’t stop at the (mandatory) brake check area
-He didn’t have his fire extinguisher ready
-He is standing in front of a set of tires that are pumped up to 110+ PSI that could explode from the heat and return him to where he once belonged.
Other then dropping his load in time, what else did he do right? 🤔
