When I was a kid and growing up on our farm, I witnessed something unusual and kind of funny... In addition to our own horses, we boarded a couple of large draft horses. On one particular evening when I went into the barn to do the chores, one of the draft horses had a goat sitting on its back and that goat had a chicken sitting on its back. Everyone seemed satisfied with the arrangement. Back in the mid-70s cameras were not something we carried in our pocket so unfortunately I didn't get a picture. But the memory is strong and that will have to do.
There is a German fairy tale called "Town Musicians of Bremen" - it is pretty much what you describe. Google it, you'll find it even has a statue dedictated in Bremen.
Name: Alva. A Swedish girls name, traditionally given to the 11th child in a family. Back in the days when people regularly still had a dozen kids. Nowadays people just pick it for being a cute elfy sounding name.
My cat loved the weird chickens moment of zen. She’d look at the video and loved to hear them clucking. Monday she passed away, so today the weird chickens made me cry. I really like your videos and for awhile, a cat named Chyna did, too.
Enjoy the overnight footage, especially seeing Toby and Abby splendidly doing their jobs. From one Dog Person to another you can no longer deny you are now a member of a beautiful subculture of dog and cat people.
I had a wonderful St. Bernard mix dog for many years, who would NOT come in the house at night, no matter what the weather. Pogo, my doggie, would make a big nest in a snow bank, and despite my urging, would happily park herself there all night. My friends thought I was abusing her, and I tried to explain that she preferred the snowy cold. On windy nights, she consented to sleep in a comfortable chair on the covered porch. I miss her mellow presence whenever I glance out at the deep snow drifts.
Morgan, just bought Toby Dog of Gold Shaw Farm on audiobook. It's adorable! You should be very proud of yourself. Been watching your channel quite some time. Never thought the daily life of a farmer in Vermont would be so gratifying. It makes a boring day more bearable.
Dr. Approach cows with closed fist. Fingers are claws. Don’t reach your hand out. Arms by your side. Avert gaze. Don’t smile and show your fangs. Don’t touch on head at first, that’s how cows show dominance. You will have huge success with your cows. Good luck and thank you for your great videos. ❤
Oooh that's a lot of snow and it always amazes me how well all the animals handle it. New cattle seems to be adjusting quite nicely, and Baby B. does seem a bit more friendly. Hoop Coupe survived beautifully, and may it continue to,lol. It's a good day at Gold Shaw Farm, thank you Morgan for taking us along.🐄🦆🐔🐕🐈❤️👍
A suggestion for the new cow's names: Amethyst, Aurora, and Athena. The farm looks so pretty with all the snow there. Being from the south, I have never seen this much in person but would love to visit, play in it, and then come home to get warm again.
Glad you are all ok . We have avalanche warnings and problems in the Wasatch mountains . They got five to nine feet of snow in the mountains and it's suppose to get warm . Take care be safe .
Wow, a 20-minute farm update video! Thanks for all the work on this. I liked seeing how the new cows are fitting in, and the trail cam footage of the foxes.
Our Winter in Western Canada has been low precipitation but also temps down to -41C, which is about the same in Degrees F. This time of the year I watch our dog closely. He can almost pee at a dead run!
I love to watch the dynamics between the new cows and your existing herd. We've been getting subzero weather in Missouri with a TON of wind so I'm super sympathetic. Hope all goes well for you!
I can't explain exactly why, but this video was extremely entertaining to me! I was just glued to the screen the entire time, you're getting so good at this
I'm glad we didn't get the wet part of the storm. Falling snow down the roof means good roof! For some reason it always makes me laugh when I see snow fall down like that. For the cow names. There are songs like Amanda, Angie, Alice.
It looks like the dogs know the camera is you. The way they look in the camera after dealing w the threats its like they're saying "DAD! Do ya see this shxt? Where u at??"
Just a suggestion, Morgan, strain the bone broth through a fine strainer. Ginny Barn Cat knows how to keep her paws dry and warm by hitching a ride on your shoulder. She let's you do the walking for the both of you.
Over the winter I imagine baby B will realize that you are the one that brings the food and treats and not some noisy weird thing that’s invading her field and really warm up to you very quickly. I also like the call you made last year to not bottle feed lil BB and let her mom do her thing on raising her bottle fed animals can become extremely clingy and a clingy cow with giant horns who doesn’t fully understand they are alot stronger than humans and that humans are extremely fragile can lead to nasty accidents. Keep up the good work Morgan! It’s been amazing to watch this farm grow over the past 4 years and I’ve learned so much (and realized how much I miss living on a farm)!
I'm from Eastern Canada so I know all about snow and cold weather but I'm currently in The Philippines where it is +30C or +86 Fahrenheit. I never thought I would actually miss the cold hard winters. I envy you Morgan for having your own land and independence and for being able to do as you please without a nagging boss or supervisor to deal with. Your a very lucky man! Best Wishes to you my TH-cam friend.
Once when I was watching one of the Scottish farm series, the farmer was bringing in the cows (coos) along the drive that they were quite used to following. They would walk up to the gate that lead to their pasture and into the pasture. Along the drive was a stone wall about six feet tall. And sitting on the wall was a black cat. The cows walked along their familiar route until the lead cow saw the cat and stopped suddenly, staring at the cat. The farmer was surprised since she'd never seen them do that before. The cat seemed to be oblivious to the cows watching her as she sat with her back to the cows. Then she stood, stretched and took a step ... cows took a step, eyes still on the cat. By now the farmer is laughing. Cat took a couple more steps ... so did the cows. Now the farmer is laughing so hard, she's holding onto her stomach. Cat walks a couple more steps ... cows follow ... then cat stops. Cows stop. Farmer tells cat to let the cows get to pasture. Cat ignores farmer for a couple of minutes then jumps off the wall. Cows walk along and turn into their pasture. Took awhile before the farmer stopped laughing ... me, too.
New “A” names: Angela, Alexia, & Angel hair Pasta! TY Morgan - your videos are AWESOME. (Oh. . . & Awesome Blossom for another “A” name choice for the new gals!!)
I've been watching since you just had small amounts of birds. your editing skills and ability to put together a video thats both interesting and beautiful is amazing. I love watching you videos, it gives me hope i can homestead at a smaller scale later in my life. Thanks for being awesome, and showing us all to just live your dreams even when it's scary. If farming ever fails for you, you'd make an amazing film maker.
The only concern I have is mixing horned cattle with polled cattle doesn't always work out. The horned ones know how to use their horns to bulky and injure other cattle especially the polled cattle. So keep an eye out for that.
A names - Azura, Amelia, Aubrey, Addy. B names - Betsy (my name, lol), Bella, Blair, Bree I love you videos! They always make my day and remind that a simple life is often the happiest life. I am so happy that the new cows are settling in but to bad about the shelter but i suspect they will find shelter in the old duck/goose house...
Happy to see Bea approach you more and more. And it didn't look like it was so bad for the new girls. The storm might even have helped, in a way, as everyone had something else on their mind than bullying them too much XD Also, I stand by my Aria suggestion :)
For the back of the hoop coop, maybe an easy solution would be to put up a couple of 'walls' outside in a V formation to have the wind separate on the sides, they has to be a cheap material and a pole that can be setup for that task
I like the name Amelia. Wonderful episode -- loved it. Thank you for bringing us into your wholesome lives. We are happiest, I think, when we know we have what others need, be that human others or animal others, and we have a heart that yearns to give to them what they need (note: not necessarily what they want ;-))
I still stand with Aurora as name even though I intended that for the cute white highland cow 🤣 Other name ideas include: Anita ( 101 Dalmations), Applejack (My Little Pony), Atta (Bug’s Life), Angelica Pickles (Rugrats) for the oldest Alma (from Encanto)
Once a month I make chicken foot broth for our Ridgebacks and they barely chew, more so hoover down their food when we add it to the kibble, it's soooo good for them.
When that storm came through New Hampshire we got a good amount of heavy snow and I lost my hoop house. Thank goodness it was empty. Tuesday flooding that followed was insane. We live on a ridge so the only flooding we had was at the bottom of the driveway by the road but now we have to fix the driveway this spring. I love your channel to learn from someone in my climate! Thank you Morgan for always sharing.
Morgan I just saw on another page someone bought a used crockpot from Goodwill and has it plugged in on low, and the chicken’s water doesn’t freeze! What a cool idea. I don’t think the hoop coop has electricity but a larger electric oven could work in the barn for the cattle. I’m a city girl (I’m 70 from Chicago) but I love watching you, Allison and the animals. Enjoyed your Mall story as well.
We had snow today!! Half an hour or so, barely enough to make a snwoball, but the ground and everything else was totally white for a while! Uk weather excitement!! Lol. Glad storm wasnt too bad for you and only a small casualty. Large whtie farm cows seem to be settling in, hope it still going smoothly for the moo crew!
You should get someone who has a really good dramatic voice to do a “GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!! In this corner” kind of intro with crowds cheering. That so you can play it every time the boys are wrestling 😂
I have some names ….Abilene the meaning of that is Meadow, Alora which means my beautiful dream, Analeigh which means grace clearing, but my favourite is Annabelle, which means gracious and beauty😊
May I suggest "Hey, large white farm cows!" as a greeting for the new cattle 🙂
THIS!❤
Omg, I love it!
This is awesome!
My large white farm cows ❤
I feel like it might confuse the dogs but it’s still a cute idea

Cool..😂😅😊❤
That would of evoked so much joy in me ❤
The Bremen Town Musicians!
@@jd9351 - I didn't know what you meant so I googled it... Yeah kind of like that. :-)
I love the fact that Baby B was the first to great the 'large white farm cows'. I expect to see both babies getting along and playing soon.
Baby Bea got her aunt Abby's curiosity and bravery.
@@MrThedrachen you might be right, abby spent a lot of time around Baby B this summer!
You have to get an Allie McBeef in there
You should name the two white cows after ABBA, the two girls in the band are named Agneta and Anni-Frid. 😄
I just wanted to say this.
Name: Alva. A Swedish girls name, traditionally given to the 11th child in a family. Back in the days when people regularly still had a dozen kids. Nowadays people just pick it for being a cute elfy sounding name.
My grandmother was Elva
My cat loved the weird chickens moment of zen. She’d look at the video and loved to hear them clucking. Monday she passed away, so today the weird chickens made me cry. I really like your videos and for awhile, a cat named Chyna did, too.
😢❤😢
Purdey921, I am so sorry about your furry family member, they get into your heart for sure.💔💖
The cello music during the Weird Chicken Moment of Zen is definitely classy, Morgan. Love it! ❤
Came to comment on that as well! Morgan, who is the cellist? If I'm not mistaken, that's one of the Bach Brandenburg concerto movements?!
Enjoy the overnight footage, especially seeing Toby and Abby splendidly doing their jobs. From one Dog Person to another you can no longer deny you are now a member of a beautiful subculture of dog and cat people.
The new cows are so happy with their new penthouse barn suite!
I had a wonderful St. Bernard mix dog for many years, who would NOT come in the house at night, no matter what the weather. Glad the storm wasn’t that bad. I’m liking Aretha Franklin, Arianna Grande, and Amy Winehouse for your new cows names.
For the large white farm cow A names: Alanis (Morisette) Aimee (Mann) or Amy (Winehouse) :)
Annie (Lennox) Aretha (Franklin) Ann (Wilson) Alannah (Myles) Alice (Bag)
Alanis
Angela Lans-dairy! (Lansbury)
Avril Bovigne (Levigne)
Audrey Heifer (Hepburn)
Love Aimee Mann!
I had a pair of polka dot boots once and my chickens were always pecking at the dots. It was hilarious!
Morgan, just bought Toby Dog of Gold Shaw Farm on audiobook. It's adorable! You should be very proud of yourself. Been watching your channel quite some time. Never thought the daily life of a farmer in Vermont would be so gratifying. It makes a boring day more bearable.
Thank you so much!!😊
I love seeing the dogs all cozy in their snow beds :D
great to see Joey and Machoman sparring, they are excited about the new arrivals, good idea to have a pal for Baby B in the pasture next summer
Yes they are!
That sounds like my father..
Same with dogs.
Maybe this will work with my bunnies. My scaredy ones stare at me when I smile. I didn’t think about teeth as fangs and fingers as claws. Thanks!

I had a German Sheppard. When it was very cold, and I mean Canadian cold, she loved to stay on the balcony.
It's was like if she loved the cold.
Toby totally needs to go visit The Girl With The Dogs
Looks like the animals survived the winter storm. Thanks for another great video of a farm update.
A suggestion for the new cow's names: Amethyst, Aurora, and Athena.

Good plan with snow. It is fun in short doses. Quite often beautiful.
Toby:
How about...Queen Anne, Ally McBeal, Astrid.....good luck choosing. There seems to be some amazing choices.
I'm glad everyone is doing good and the cattle integrated well.

yes enjoyed the update ...stay warm n dry ....
So very happy for you Morgan! Looks like happy cattle.
Might I suggest Aurora and Adeline for the big girls and, Alma for the baby? I love your videos, thank you for showing us your little slice of life!

Anastasia, Alexis, Addilyn, Amberly, Amara, Anika, Aryana, Ashleen come to mind off the top of my head
Morgan is THE Green Mountain Man
I luv your vids and adore how you luv your animals, Morgan. You’re my favorite Farmer, and my Grandpa was a Farmer so I know who/what one is.
Perhaps the large white farm dogs should have a meet and greet with the new white farm cows.
Thanks for the cold Farm update video......Thanks Morgan 👍

love how you love your animals
Morgan - I like the way you are throwing your voice and making it sound like it's the cows giving the weather report. :)
I’m skilled!
Luckily my dog is ALWAYS excited about her food but I’ll give the bone broth a try to spice things up!
I suggest Alba for one of the white cows. It means white; bright; fortunate; dawn. The epitome of purity. Angel could work too
Agatha would make a good cow's name!
The new cows are also so beautiful, cows are so cute and intelligent
Adelweise is a good strong name too!
stay safe n warm....prayers sent....

What good doggos! Also Alabaster for white cows.
Love the new breed of cows, confident and not too shaggy
Aisling: Irish, pronounced ash-ling, means vision or dream and because the white calf reminds me of the fae girl from the Book of Kells movie
