I've been beekeeping for a number of years, if you need any tips let me know! However what I would say is that it is a lot more complex than it seems. I strongly suggest that you find your local society and speak to them, even if you don't attend a beginner course (which you really should) simply having an experienced beekeeper you can call, when something weird inevitably happens, is extremely valuable. What I will say is that those hives are too close together as it stands, and the hives will probably start fighting - you'll want 10-12 feet between each hive. It can also help to paint them different colours as this can help the bees differentiate the hives, which stops them trying to land in the wrong hive and causing further conflict.
I'm afraid I don't have a channel. I haven't come across any really good channels on beekeeping that I follow closely, although ther are good videos out there, and I'm sure some channels do exist ... maybe I should start a channel
What I've learned over the years by watching Gold Shaw Farm: Morgan: "I'm not a very smart man." - Yet proves times and times again, that he knows, what he is doing.
He just learned early on that failure is a very important part of success. We can learn that from our teachers, parents and professors but while we hear them say those words, it doesn't sink in until we experience it first hand. You just have to keep on keeping on until you get it right. Or at least mostly right.
I get joy over seeing Morgan enjoy his farm. I used to enjoy sitting and watching my animals and doing my chores, but covid got me and a year later I have long haulers and it appears to have disabled me. I have to depend on my ADD hubby to do things and he doesn't have nearly the joy Morgan or I have. He collects eggs once a week, .....maybe. He lets the rabbits run out of food such that there will be 6 dead bodies in the pen, he doesn't notice when rabbits dig out through rusted hardware cloth lining bottom, (been there since 1990) and escape, and let them run loose and cause havoc in the chicken house, in my garden , he just doesn't care. It stresses me but I don't have the oxygen to get out there and take care of business.
He is a financial services advisor. Takes a pretty high level of understanding of the world to get to that position. A. Financial services guy who can run a farm and TH-cam channel at same time, while also showing an aptitude for hamdyman/carpentry skill, is pretty freaking genius level person to me. Frankly, it's generally only the intelligent that realize what their doing was stupid. Learned that while people watching in jail and conversations there and in life. The dumbest people alive, are those that make mistakes, and repeat it. Also, those that refuse to learn from others mistakes when given advice, particularly by older, and wiser people to teens or young adults, and repeat the same thing anyway.
Seriously tho, if a dude stepped into my house unannounced with a net and the first thing he said was "Don't worry, you guys are going to a good place." I'd be freaking out too.

When he said he was going to bulldoze the patch, I was very, very concerned. I think he should try to lift those plants and move them to someplace safer. Asparagus and rhubarb are amazing plants. (I'm just sorry that I can't grow them on my place.)
Morgan, everytime i watch one of your videos i get so imersed. I'm not sure if it's the editing, narration or camera, but it makes me smile, laugh, worry and feel a bunch of interesting feelings. Just left my TSC store in Manassas,VA. Happy to report chicks are back in steel troughs. No huddling. Fresh water and feed in all tanks. Well done Morgan!! You saved countless birds.
I have never seen any one such as you who has opened up his life in so many ways concerning a life being lived on a farm. You inform, bear your soul, and express concern for all aspects and kinds of life of nature's wonders you are involved with. Seemingly thorough yet vulnerable to public debate. It is nice to see someone open his whole nature and personality for the world to see as a good example of being one of God's creatures.

Seriously. Raw milk is GOOD for you, store bought milk has all of the beneficial bacteria boiled out of it and then your body doesn't have what it needs to process the milk proteins, especially if the milk is Holstein instead of a more digestible cow milk, like Jersey.
The asparagus crown can actually be dug up and replanted 😁 It's a knobby, hard ball of roots, you dig that up and can relocate the plant pretty easily.
Enjoyed watching you as you went about your day on the farm. As a fellow yankee, I especially appreciated your "yankee ingenuity" with your tailgate latch rigging. Using duct tape to save yourself money is New England resourcefulness at its best.
I freaking love how authentic you are, you don't shy away from being your goofy, passionate self and I think that's fantastic. You spilling milk down your shirt just goes to show how much you enjoyed the cereal 😂 I'd buy it based on that alone if I didn't have messed up digestion.
I was thinking the same about moving the asparagus. Its takes years for them to get established and productive. Seems a waste to just plow them over. I just planted a few roots this spring. Not sure this is my forever home, but if I move i think the asparagus is coming with me.
@holaI found my first sprouts just few mins ago!!!! I'm so excited!!! I can't imagine leaving something that takes such an investment of patience. The way I feel right now and if i have my way, where I go, the asparagus goes! :)
Rhubarb leaves are poisonous, well they are to human's I can't remember the name of the chemical in the leaves, just googled it and it's oxalic acid, not sure if that would be poisonous to the birds if the pecked at them?
About the Rhubarb and Asparagus! Both those plants take years to grow and establish. When you take down the shed you should dig them up and relocate them. If the root is too huge, it’s ok to cut it into pieces. Just a thought!

The reaction of the birds at the pond OMG, Pablo, those chickens with saddles walking around like they are still in pijamas and photobombing you! Thank you Morgan for sharing another day on your farm with us. Nothing nicer for me than waking up and spending a little virtual time on Gold Shaw Farm. My daughter and her husband now have their own small farm about an hour from here and are enjoying thre good country life.
I appreciate your taking the time to cook for us and even though it was awkward to eat it on camera, it looked delish! You don't have to eat it on camera if you are uncomfortable though, just watching you prepare it is enough! I never understood why people always ate their meal on video anyway, but cooking for your wife is so sweet. You're a good husband Morgan! 😁
Are you still planning on using Silkies to hatch out ducks and geese eggs or has that kinda been scrapped? Edit: Ha! Called it with the geese taking over Tobys house! Only just one so far but still. Also, word of advice for future goose transportation: Cover their cage with something to block their view, it greatly reduces stress for them.
I bet he could have fun doing a little DIY stand for them in a video! But I bet pallets should be able to handle much heavier loads than those full beehives, unless they got rotten. I did see someone mention they should not all be next to each other because they would fight.
Omg an attorney at my last office regularly got bee queens and their consorts in the mail. We were constantly on the watch for their royal highnesses, not the usual thing for a law office🙂 we adored meeting the queens and got loads of delightful honey!
Seeing this has to make you really appreciate what hard work all farmers do to get staples to our markets and tables. I praise and thank you all (next to God) for the abundant provisions.
Hey there! I'd be careful setting up those bees in the goose and chicken yard. Once they figure out there's larva in the nests, the chickens and ducks will probably try to raid it regularly. Toby might also get stung if he gets curious about what you're doing when you go to check the hive. One of my old dogs ate a bee, and he needed serious vet care for months after that. I'm glad you're considering bees in general, though! Very important for the future.
Agreed. I'm no expert myself but my father does beekeeping. They should be kept away from animals if possible. My dad keeps his hives near a stand of blackberries just off his garden plot, and he doesn't have much in the way of problems with wild animals either.
Joyful spring days are a tonic! Everyone full of energy - loved how the birds went tearing off to the pond. Oh, and I got a nice giggle from your incubator brand/model, "Ova Easy."
I actually ordered the cereal. I had gastric sleeve surgery just over a year ago and I avoid sugar and enjoy monkfruit. Saw it in the ingredients so figured it was worth a try!
@@AndroidFish Of course! I'm just stating my interests when he does decide to sell. I've been watching this channel for a couple years and excited for what is to come, WHENEVER that may be. :)
@hola - I found that out when my chickens would all run to the fence whenever people were talking on the other side of the house. And when I would open windows on the same side of the house that their yard is. They also seem to know when I'm running water at the kitchen sink, which faces their yard about 30' away.
i love watching you learn, Morgan. Ive always been mechanically inclined, i grew up learning how to fix basic mechanical stuff. anything that goes wrong with my car, i fix it myself as best i can. so watching you say "im a mechanical moron" and then watching you figure out your tailgate on your own, and fix it in probably the exact same way i would. i just love it.
Use your tractor and dig up the asparagus and then plant into a forever spot to continue producing for you. Make sure you feed them real good. They are heavy feeders. The root system maybe pretty large due to it being really old.
You can totally transfer the asparagus and rhubarb into another area. The rhubarb can be split and you can get more. I harvest all summer chop and freeze so I can make stewed rhubarb (I do it in crockpot for 24 hrs then it gets really dark and intensely flavoured) and finish on stove to boil, off excess water. Just pull the rhubarb, don’t cut it, and pull flowers as soon as they appear to keep harvesting all summer
No one is ever going to tell me animals don't have emotions. Bruce definitley remembered his girls. One of my favorite roosters just got killed by a fox and the other rooster is injured. All my hens...grieving. Not themselves, moving slowly, making weird sounds. It is touch and go for my mean rooster. Love (d) both of them for different reasons. It was so nice seeing you and the little miss eating dinner and spending time together. We love you guys!!!!
Awesome video GoldShawFarm also I am very excited for your new bees coming to your farm . 🥳. Also if you keep hay in toby's house the geese and the other birds will mistake it as a nesting spot for them . So I suggest you either remove the hay and put toby's bed or put his bed on top of the hay . That's the main reason that female goose went inside his house . Because to them it's another spot for them to lay their eggs
I feed my excess eggs to my chickens--they LOVE the yolks and the shells are great for calcium. The DUCKS I had only ate the egg shells. They loved them like candy. GREAT for calcium for layers! I never had a problem with birds purposely breaking and eating their eggs. I always had to break them myself. Up at 5:30 AM and still up after 10 PM editing. AMAZING! We thank you for all your great videos. My son makes videos--it's a lot of work. You do a GREAT job!!
I want to live and work at the Gold Shaw farm. It all seems so peaceful, wholesome, and fulfilling. Hopefully one day I’ll have my own place. That bit at dinner was cute. Thank you!

I bet he could have fun doing a little DIY stand for them in a video! But I bet pallets should be able to handle much heavier loads than those full beehives, unless they got rotten. I did see someone mention they should not all be next to each other because they would fight.
I am constantly amazed at how prolific a poster you are with a full day job and all of the farm work. I hope that you are getting enough sleep!
That’s a clever fix for the latch, Morgan! Good ol’ Yankee ingenuity and a whole lot of Duct Tape
Lil barn cat looks so good. What a kind soul she is. You can see her appreciation for you.
You took away Pablo's "Heating Pad"?
Noooooo.😆
The fact that you quoted Pauly shore (wheezing the juice) had me laughing my head off
Alison is such a cutie. Great ELO reference too Morgan 💛💛💛
Toby is the bestest helper ever! 100000/10 would give all the pets.
I actually ordered the cereal. I had gastric sleeve surgery just over a year ago and I avoid sugar and enjoy monkfruit. Saw it in the ingredients so figured it was worth a try!
If you become a beekeeper I would 1000% buy honey from you. This would be a dream come true!
I would expect in Vermont with a fresh package of bees -- all the honey they bring in has gotta go back to them this year.
@@AndroidFish Of course! I'm just stating my interests when he does decide to sell. I've been watching this channel for a couple years and excited for what is to come, WHENEVER that may be. :)
Gotta say the Magic Spoon cereal is actually pretty interesting
I love how Toby greets you at the front of farm.
Those ducks seem to be standing in line inside their house since 3 am, cause when the doors open - they fly out like rockets!
Arvis - My chickens do that in their coop. They're gathered by the door every morning haha.
Yeah, mature asparagus is worth keeping!
Oooh! You got bees! Well done, you two. They are so important. ☺️😍
I’m not a dog person, but Toby Dog has won me over. He’s a good boy!
Happy to say, made a trip to tractor supply today and they were back in the classic brooders the way it should be. Love this community.
I read the title as 'The Bee Gees:life on the farm' 😂
The dyslexia is strong with this one.
No, no u didn't.
Me to XD
instant party just add the Bee gees
Great...now my brain is mashing up the Bee Gees and John Denver's "Country Boy" song.
Coffee is an essential of life. ☕️
Smile, smile, smile, I just love watching your animals enjoying their farm.
From central London, your hard work IS appreciated!!!!
Relaxing long video basically a dream video for me thank you
What a dream! A lot of work, but a dream. Thank you for sharing this with us, Morgan. You are inspiring.
Thank you!
this is amazing content . kaboom. you are going 10x viewership. i love it, best wish from manchester uk
20:06 you can tell morgan was staring at the entire drive's footage to find that sweet goose poop clip.
And his smile in the clip after that cracked me up :'D
This farm/vlog format is addicting, I've been watching a bunch of your videos since I found your channel a few days ago. I love it!
