Viewer pep talk to Morgan... I think it's a magnificent structure, a lasting legacy. I think of all the craftsmen and tradesmen who got honest pay for practicing their craft. But mainly I wanted to say that this online channel with nearly 900 thousand subscribers is also a work of art. Thinking out loud here, if you plan to put a greenhouse on the back, you might want to think about getting some gutters up so you can rainwater harvest so you can water your plants inside the greenhouse. Also, not sure how close that building is to the raised bed garden, but you may also be able to set up a watering system from that barn roof as well. You have a heck of a roof there, why not use it to its full ability? One thing I've learned is those darn vegetables take a whole lot of water, much more than I ever realized. And, here I am, spending more of Morgan's money, lol. Anyway, that's what I would do.
While Morgan already has a water supply, a roof fed runoff supply (rain barrels with taps?) could add to sustainability. I think he'd add it to a list of desiderata.
The (possible??) problem with gutters is "snow". The current roof is designed and built to shed snow. Gutters will just cause it to build up -- until something breaks (They may be ways around this.)
Honestly, the sponsor today got me, my school and team recently lost a kid to himself, the whole school is wearing his favorite color today. I hope that everyone here is doing great, remember to reach out to people and don’t soak in your own sadness, the kid didn’t think many people would care but at least a third of the school is mourning. People care about you whether you know them or not, please get help even if it’s just telling a friend.

As long as it doesen get abandoned somthing like that should last way longer probebly more like 300-500 years. But will probably be taken down at some random time for the lack of use of it or better utilizing of the land and that can happen at any time maybe 40 years or 200 who knows.
I am super happy to know that the TH-cam revenue helped pay for this lovely post and beam barn! Given how much work, creativity and skill go into Gold Shaw Farm’s videos Morgan must feel like he has more than two full time jobs in the summer. Small farms have always had to diversify to make ends meet, often with the farmer working a full time job off farm a lot of the time. I think it is so smart that Morgan found a 21st century way to fill this gap! There is a downside to sharing this much of your life online so here’s hoping the Golds get a little zing of joy every time they look at their new barn and think it’s still worth it to continue posting videos. Congratulations on a barn that is functional but also a thing of beauty 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
So true - and that's why so many farmer's wives are teachers. Steady work, summers off to help on the farm. My grandpa was a prairie mail carrier in the morning and rancher the rest of the day.
Furthering the use of timber frame methods of building, creating an esthetically beautiful structure that could last many lifetimes, the feeling of joy each time you look at it: priceless! And for your viewers, a chance to listen to "My Buddy Alfred"---also priceless. 🤩
I expected it to be at least $50,000 MORE so I think a very good deal for what you got in return. That barn will stand for centuries, outlasting any metal barn. Well worth the price! Kudos to you, Morgan!
I also like that Morgan used local skills and labour - this Christmas my family made pact to buy all our gifts from locally owned businesses We really want to support them so they continue to be around in the future
Yep, my context is different since I live in a different country, but that didn't seem like a bad price at all given the construction technique and materials, and the result seems worth it
It’s definitely a good price for that much building. It’s probably so low because of the gravel floor and no interior finish. A concrete pad would’ve been $35k and any insulated skin surrounding the frame would’ve been at least another $50k, if not much more. Timber frames are always magnificent.
Looks like you made the right choices. The company was professional and precise in their work, and I love the way the wood was fitted together. The neighbors love it too. It's a good solid foundation that will last.
What a beautiful structure. Truly, even at 250K, that is a bargain in NE, with the economy and inflation. But the best part was employing local tradesmen and artisans in their crafts. Putting money and jobs into your community. That is the true beauty of that building. Well done Morgan.
right, I was going to say, a bit over 200k is not bad at all, considering that a two-room, one floor house in one of the cheapest regions of NYS, which is on the NE, is around that price. I thought he would spend way over a half million with this project.
To me, it is a work of art. And the main fellow and all the artisans who did the work got fair recompense and it helps preserve these skills. Truly truly exquisite artwork. My one thought about the greenhouse, in case you haven't considered this yet, is that greenhouses produce a LOT of moisture and humidity, which isn't all that compatible with wood structures. That moisture and humidity can attract termites and wood-eating fungi. So that needs to be taken into account. Great job, Morgan, and it adds so much to the Vermont landscape. Here in the South (where I'm stuck), all you see is the old barns falling down, you never see a new wood farm structure, ever. And there are probably good reasons for that, but just saying, to see the old traditions live on at such a scale is a delight.
Man, you do things right! I’m so pleased to see you succeed. Kudos to your choices and the guts to share it. I’ve been watching since the get-go….proud of you. I hope you and Allison enjoy your holidays and winter season.
The Barn is amazing! Congratulations on such a beautiful structure. And, I love that song My Buddy Alfred. It gets stuck in my head all day and makes me smile. With the cost of lumbar these days, you are lucky with the 200K. It is beautiful and will last far beyond us.
It’s not our money you are spending! You don’t need to defend or feel vulnerable for an expense that is part of your dream. Woohoo, it’s gorgeous and you deserve it. I have gotten hundreds of hours of entertainment from your channel and it gives me joy to see you have this incredible structure to enjoy. Keep up the fantastic job editing and entertaining, I’ll keep coming back for more of your content, thanks for your tour!
I live in a metal building roughly the same size as your barn. I have a small apartment at one end of the building where I live. We have a solid concrete floor and large open areas for equipment and working areas. I’m incredibly happy with the final result.
Thank you, Morgan 🥰 I think with the beauty and longevity of your new barn, not to mention that it is what you wanted, that is a really good price ❤ Have a lovely, relaxing evening, Morgan 🥰🥰
Love the work, transparency and all the content. I don’t watch this for farming instructions, I watch it for the ethical coexisting between human and nature and because its the best channel on TH-cam that deserves your time.
I'm not a price person, but I am an architect, and I love your beautiful wood crafted barn and consider the cost pretty much what I expected for New England. Also, you got a GREAT deal on the design fee at $3,500! I'm a consultant these days and that fee wouldn't buy you very much of my time.
Seriously! I'm an architect and $3,500 for drawings is like gutter pricing, it would barely pay for liability insurance. The march to the bottom for design services is making it impossible to do business as a young architect.
It's brilliant to see the traditional wood working skills used in your barn. There are plenty of buildings still standing after hundreds of years using the same techniques (I'm in the UK).
I am at least a 6th gen farmer (we didn’t look back into who were farmers in England but we know they were farmers before we came over in the 1800s) and my dad is here for making Christmas puddings (steamed molasses cake with whiskey or brandy) and I showed him your video because I’ve started a flower farm here in northern NY near the Canadian border. He loves your barn. He says that’s the way his grandfather built their barn and he’s happy people are still doing it. He’s 77 and it is a nice holiday tradition we’re taking part in, to see him smile that way and get excited and get talking about it is very nice. Thank you so much.
This barn is the dream! This building should last over generations and will be remembered by the community through generations. This used to be Morgan’s barn build, then insult or praise… I admire your work, you openness with mental health and your transparency, it sure gives me the dream of sharing my story one day!
1:02 Nice to see that the barn cats can enter and exit the structure as they please even when the doors are closed. However, it does bring up a concern if you plan to hatch chicks in there. Better make sure that hatchery room is buttoned down tight - a secure door and no points of entry from the floor or the ceiling!
Pretty sure that's the most beautiful barn I've ever seen. Morgan definitely deserves to live his dream. He's enriched so many lives, and he's worked hard for it! I hope the dream continues to include making these videos for years and years to come. They really have meant a lot to me since I discovered the channel during lockdown in 2020. I immediately found stress relief with the beauty and serenity of the farm being a backdrop for a thoughtful person like Morgan, a great storyteller, with an even greater story to tell... AND there's animals! 😂 Thanks, dude! You rock. If you ever stop making videos I'll listen to and watch repeats. That's how great this channel is. 🤘
I would like to suggest that you paint the barn. It's a hassle, I know, but it adds a protective layer so that the wood isn't directly exposed to the elements. Not a huge deal. It's a beautiful structure :) Job well done.
It depends on the timber used. Some timbers are best left natural (they form a sort of patina that protects the wood.. And you don't have to repaint it :)
I was wondering about painting the barn. It would look so beautiful and traditional with the barn red color. With painting the old barn, help sustain it and delay dry rot. It would certainly make it look a lot newer. your newborn is wonderful truly a work of art and I enjoyed watching the craftsman build it
Favorite moment? When the goose literally walked over that poor little weird chicken when leaving the hoop coop! I laughed out loud. Thanks Morgan. 🤣🦋💕
That barn looks VERY well-built. A lot of structures built today look like they will be falling down in 20-30 years from the day they are built, but this one will be the "Gold Shaw Farm" barn for well over a hundred years, probably more. I love it and would be admiring it every time I drove by if I lived near you.
Please dont worry about what people will think about how much you earn from TH-cam, if it was easy everyone would do it. You deserve all the credit for how much you earn and where you spend it is your business. I just want to thank you for letting me live the farm life for just a little bit each week. I hope nothing but the best for you.
Morgan, You have always been real to me. $200k is a bargain, and you earned it. The structure is beautiful, practical and sits well in your village. Congratulations. Regards, Stephen.
Considering your nearby creek and the flooding that you experience this late summer, you were were totally smart to go with the gravel floor for the barn. You are allowing water to drain into the soil rather than pooling around an enormous concrete slab. The design helps conserve water and is better for your ecosystem. I think your old barn was well designed, too - it has lasted so long with minimal maintenance. Maybe you’ll get the grant from the state of Vermont for a new roof someday. You are using both barns since you are wintering the cattle in the old barn and using it for extra storage, too. Good! I’m not an engineer just a lady who has learned a bit about these sorts of thing during my life. Congrats to you and Allison.🎉🎉🎉🎉
For the craftsmanship you're getting, I think you got a steal on that barn! I'll gladly watch the all the sponsored content to help you meet your dreams! Thats just the coolest thing.
It’s gorgeous!! I think $209,000 is WAY LESS than I would have guessed. Are you planning to have connection to water/sewer? I love this dream-come-true story. 👏🏻❤
Barring absolute meteoric destruction, that barn will stand for several lifetimes. You made a good choice. Well worth every dollar you spent. And the barn cats deserve a palace for the truly hardworking farmhands they are. Does Pablo ever go into the new barn?
That's not just your barn, it's a living legacy, history and functional art. We as a society have learned much from the buildings of the past. You're contributing to that. I know you've probably done all this - Moar security cameras and motion sensors on windows Secure any wifi boosters or mesh routers in barn - physically and wirelessly Look into an electric vehicle fire blanket to have on hand. Whether you're parking indoors or out, it's just good safety. And with your ahem, neighbors, best to be safe. Store some emergency supplies for you and your wife where you can. A few rubbermaid totes. Be prepared!
Your barn is gorgeous. The cost is about what I would have guessed. Who cares what anyone else thinks?! It’s your dream barn. Do it right the first time! Congratulations!
"this part right here is all of the chaos" I see we have similar organizational methods! Everything is neat and orderly! There's a place for everything! Including chaos!
Wow! Amazing value for the money. Glad that your social media enabled you to add this fabulous structure to your farm. It will greatly enhance your farm for decades to come and will certainly fast-track your progress as a small farmer.
How does anyone ever question the money he uses? Transparency is him quite literally posting videos on a site where people make millions posting videos. Just naive watchers like the girl he interviewed with nothing better to do than complain
That was the best money spent. Not only is that barn absolutely gorgeous, but you supported local craftsmen. It will be there, looking amazing, for generations to come. ❤
It's a really excellent addition to the existing farm. I'm excited to see how the other parts of the plan- organizing, hatchery, greenhouse develop! I have to admit I'm still one of those viewers holding out for you to be able to beautifully restore and make full use of the old barn, but I know original plans for that didn't workout and that that is a major, "No real farmer would ever" kind of project, but still crossing my fingers for that one day being realistic.
😍👍Gorgeous barn with beautiful craftmanship! Your barn was customized for your needs, not a “traditional” farmer’s, so cost-critics be-- err, blessd! 😋 Thanks for the tour, Morgan. May you have many, many years of enjoyment from it.
No matter what the cost you have built this barn and home to be around for a lot longer than you or whoever inherits it after you. You have created a thing of beauty and longevity. NEVER apologise or doubt that! Well done good sir!
You work hard as a young farmer. Plus, your 2nd job gives the bonus $$$ most farmers need to survive. Don't let anyone tell you the barn is frivolous. It compliments your property, and you deserve it. Well done, Martin Gold.
Just have to say that barn is beautiful! I so wish you had a long video of construction. But all in all. I’m no barn expert at all. I think you did fantastic. It fits in to the area. WOW!
As long as you’re happy with it, that’s all that matters. It looks great. You’ve done a great job and designing and it should last more than a lifetime and pass on to your family.
Someone got a new toy --- and I'm not talking about the barn. I'm curious what you're recording with now, since its able to follow you around! Neat feature
A post and beam barn is indeed a thing of beauty. I've been following a chap called Kris Harbour here in the UK who is partway through building his own - his channel is well worth a look. I think you actually got a real bargain Morgan, as others have said that is a structure which has the potential to be still standing (and working) hundreds of years from now.
I loved the barn tour ! It’s an amazing structure and I love the more traditional way you and all the workers built it ! I must say it’s very good of you Morgan to put your barn expenditure on here . I think you would be well within your rights to keep it to yourself , it’s no one else’s business how much it cost and how it was funded !! One other thing , could we have a tour of the old barn too ?
My parent’s neighbor put up a barn and it was $500,000. 15 years ago. Craftsmen’s work is not cheap. It is beautiful, just like your barn. For everything that was completed with your barn, I don’t think it was a crazy price. With care, it will be there for many, many years
Loved this! I’ve been looking forward to this video since you started building! I guessed it cost about 200k, so when you said 208k I was very pleased with myself lol! Honestly, with the price of lumber and transport and such, I think you budgeted brilliantly and got some great deals. Congrats on such a beautiful final product!
Very solid looking, and beautifully crafted. Hard to believe that not so long ago, everyone made these entirely by hand - no cranes to raise the framing, etc. How hard people worked just to survive on this land. And for the "true Vermonters" who have hostility toward someone like Morgan, toward tourists and newly arrived property owners, consider the plight of the Native Americans, who occupied this land for millennia before the European Americans who now control it.
I mean, they still used cranes, just not in the sense that you understand them as today. They absolutely still requires much more manual labor to use without the hydraulics lol
@@kickthecat75 Technological or other advantage is a two edged sword before God. From whom much has been given, much will be required. To disregard this is not only cynical but to woo a baleful fate. Notice how Morgan is so mindful of the earth. This mindfulness bids fair to be richly rewarded by heaven one day. American Indians were also frequently mindful of the earth, the gift of the ruling great spirit they believed in, which is why heaven to them looks like a happy hunting ground. We have created, however, an unhappy barren ground. It would be fair to call that a hell. Kick the cat that did you no harm, and catdom will kick you.
@@kickthecat75 "fair and square"? Who are you to make the rules? If I went up to your family, and gave them a surprise round house and stole their car keys, and got a really good lawyer in English law to win my case, would you call that "fair and square"?
It is absolutely gorgeous! Congratulations. All along I figured it was at least $225k so good on you. Wishing you and Allison a lifetime of happiness in all you do. I really enjoy the videos! Take care...
For everything it took to get that barn built, that's not too bad of a price. When I saw the $7500 for the foundation, I was surprised it wasn't more. I live in Florida and metal barns are generally what people have built. For the same size and all of the little extra stuff (stairs, overhang, gravel floor) that would be a comparable price here.
Love your videos. Don't apologized for the money you create. You allow your talent and creativity to create and share with others. It is awesome. I deem that you are a " You Tube farmer".
I'm really glad you have this beautiful barn! The beauty and durability of a timber frame is unparalleled ❤! With your winters the work place has got to be a huge boost! Good for you 😊!
209k is a very respectable cost for a barn like that. It's gorgeous, well built, and made to last! I'm so happy for Morgan. It is a wonderful accomplishment! & Love that it was all done by people in his area!
the barn is beautiful! you're so transparent, much more so than most people would dare to be so i commend you on that. I think the price for the barn was actually pretty good seeing how big and beautiful it came out. i hope people take this as motivation to make their dreams happen instead of anything negative.
From someone who works as a General Contractor in Commercial Construction many states away from yours (NM), the cost presented for a hand-hewn, heavy timber structure, with the unique features of your barn, seems more than reasonable these days. Personally, when the grand tally was told, I thought wow, that’s incredibly inexpensive. Good job Morgan on taking this project from idea to reality without major heartbreak. And here you are in the first snowstorms benefiting from the shelter this new building provides. Congrats on a job well done, which also beautifies its environment.
That's a lot of snow! This was interesting, it's cool to know how much everything costs. The whole barn is so beautiful, I like the wreath on the door too. I definitely want to see the barn organization.
The barn is beautiful and the framing is a work of art that you just don't see very often anymore. Yes, your barn with last many decades and serve you well. It is totally worth what you spent and has brought added value to your farm in various ways. I love it!!
Morgan and Allison, your barn is beautiful. Merry Christmas, and God bless. That sow is great for snowball fights and Snowman building 🎅 It is amazing how much you have accomplished is just a few years.
The "My Buddy Alfred" song will never not make me smile and appreciate the awesome tradespeople in all of the middle of nowhere towns! It brings me a special kind of nostalgia
That is a beautiful barn. Something to be very proud of. Here in West Virginia we just finished building a 56x50 barn. Now it’s mostly a metal building with a tin roof. But it wasn’t cheap either but we were blessed that basically all the labor was free by using talented friends and family members. Was able to borrow the majority of the heavy equipment for prep work and setting post. And besides it storing tractors and Excavator and God only knows what else my son and husband has stored in there, they sectioned off a large area for mama cow and her twins Calves (Chip and Dale) that were born about six weeks ago and doing well. Love the videos have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I was pretty close to your total, it's a lot but as you said it should last for many decades to come. Looks solid and beautiful, are you planning on keeping it natural or painting it? Morgan, thanks for the rundown, wasn't sure it was ever going to happen, lol, and of course the tune 'My Buddy Alfred' that will continue to rattle around in my head for the rest of the day,Lol. All is well at Gold Shaw Farm.❤️👍
you injected a not insignificant amount of money into your community getting that barn built by employing crafts and trades people, and i think that's very rad!
I'm so glad Alfred and others were able to benefit from this project. Built in America, yeah!

This used to be Morgan’s barn build, then insult or praise…
I admire your work, you openness with mental health and your transparency, it sure gives me the dream of sharing my story one day!
Thanks, dude!
Barn red, just like the old barn next to it!
Yeah, and when painting it, paint the old barn just to pretty it up a bit.
It depends on the timber used. Some timbers are best left natural (they form a sort of patina that protects the wood.. And you don't have to repaint it :)
He could do shou sugi ban (charging the wood). It preserves it and makes it more fireproof.
It's a really beautiful, well planned barn ❤️. Have you already made plans for maintaining the old one too? I'd love to hear about that 😊
The Alfred Song never gets old!
@s44577 I agree, great lyrics! i wonder who wrote them, (Morgan? or Alfred himself/) very talented.
@@jaguarwarrior866 A.I.? like Suno?
That barn looks VERY well-built. A lot of structures built today look like they will be falling down in 20-30 years from the day they are built, but this one will be the "Gold Shaw Farm" barn for well over a hundred years, probably more. I love it and would be admiring it every time I drove by if I lived near you.
Please dont worry about what people will think about how much you earn from TH-cam, if it was easy everyone would do it. You deserve all the credit for how much you earn and where you spend it is your business. I just want to thank you for letting me live the farm life for just a little bit each week. I hope nothing but the best for you.
Great multipurpose barn, plenty of room for the kitties 😻
Love your barn! The cost is no one's business. You designed, and bought what you wanted. That is all that matters!
It's a beautiful building. 😍 It is definitely the prettiest garage I've ever seen.
My dad is a contractor and a farmer so I have a unique perspective on this. I honestly expected a bigger number! 250k-300k. It is beautiful!!
Alfred’s granite work is beautiful too.
Barring absolute meteoric destruction, that barn will stand for several lifetimes. You made a good choice. Well worth every dollar you spent. And the barn cats deserve a palace for the truly hardworking farmhands they are. Does Pablo ever go into the new barn?
I love the quintessential farm shot with the lights and all, thats just beautiful ❤
That's not just your barn, it's a living legacy, history and functional art. We as a society have learned much from the buildings of the past. You're contributing to that.
I know you've probably done all this -
Moar security cameras and motion sensors on windows
Secure any wifi boosters or mesh routers in barn - physically and wirelessly
Look into an electric vehicle fire blanket to have on hand. Whether you're parking indoors or out, it's just good safety. And with your ahem, neighbors, best to be safe.
Store some emergency supplies for you and your wife where you can. A few rubbermaid totes. Be prepared!
The barn is absolutely gorgeous and will last for a very very long time.
Your barn is gorgeous. The cost is about what I would have guessed. Who cares what anyone else thinks?! It’s your dream barn. Do it right the first time! Congratulations!
"this part right here is all of the chaos"
I see we have similar organizational methods!
Everything is neat and orderly! There's a place for everything! Including chaos!
Thanks for being so open and honest. Your barn looks amazing 🤩
Wow! Amazing value for the money. Glad that your social media enabled you to add this fabulous structure to your farm. It will greatly enhance your farm for decades to come and will certainly fast-track your progress as a small farmer.
The Barn is Absolutely Beautiful 🤩
My Buddy Alfred 🎶
Thank you for advocating Mental Health.
Timberframe was definitely the better decision than stick, this can now be a barn that also lives for a 100 years
Happy to know my watching contributed to creating a building that will still be there long after I’m gone. 😊
I would love to see the barn organization. I’m looking forward to that.
More transparency is what we need in the world, thank you. Love the channel, keep up the good work!
❤ Morgan, just one word for your new barn: MAGNIFICENT!
WOW!
There's a time lapse video somewhere on the channel I think
Can you give a full tour of the big red barn
Every time I hear “My buddy Alfred!” I start singing and smiling It makes me happy! ❤️❤️❤️
That barn is a work of art.
Well done to both the architect & the builder.
As long as you’re happy with it, that’s all that matters. It looks great. You’ve done a great job and designing and it should last more than a lifetime and pass on to your family.
Wonderful! Especially after dark. It must be very satisfying to look out from the house and see the new barn when it's dark outside! 👍
I think you made the right decision. Historically accurate for the area and your house, it will still be standing in 150 years.
Thanks for keeping the old barn around. Nice new barn.
His build is very nice. I didn't realize until now just how much he is saving by doing it all by himself(with help of course).
Love the barn, you made great choices, and the fact you employed so many in the area to help is amazing :D
I considered them and have taken stock that they were technologically inferior and lost fair and square in war.
@@SeekingTheLoveThatGodMeans7648 Thats all very cute and all, but technological advantage is pretty much 80% of winning a war.
@@kickthecat75 "fair and square"? Who are you to make the rules? If I went up to your family, and gave them a surprise round house and stole their car keys, and got a really good lawyer in English law to win my case, would you call that "fair and square"?
With decent maintenance and a bit of luck this barn will probably last a hundred years, so well worth the craftmanship and cost.
Beautiful barn! I appreciate you sharing the cost breakdown and how you spend your money is your business!
Fantastic barn. Really happy for both of you. Thanks for the tour.
Beautiful barn done very well! Love the post & Beam and timber framing! outstanding!😊🎄❄️
Yes! As a similarly disorganized person I'd love to hear your process for organizing the new barn.
The "My Buddy Alfred" song will never not make me smile and appreciate the awesome tradespeople in all of the middle of nowhere towns! It brings me a special kind of nostalgia
I love your new barn 💚 I like the natural wood color.
You go dude! So happy for you. A beautiful functional structure built to last🙂
I was guessing 200 to 250k so I'd say you got a good price based on my expectation. Looks beautiful too!
Barn is just Perfect!! Dream on ..... ❤
