Have to say, as a bloke, this is the best tutorial I’ve seen so far. Us guys often present things in a way where we assume listeners know or can understand what we’re talking about or whizz through things too quickly. Videos often don’t show clarity of demonstration either. This one is spot on. Thank you.
I’ve watched 3 videos on doing this and I was about to throw in the towel and call an electrician. After seeing your video I’ve fitted 3 ceiling lights, you’ve explained it perfectly, best video on TH-cam!
I cannot thank you enough for this brilliant tutorial video. I’ve just put up a new chandelier pendant light, following your instructions and it looks amazing! You explain and show everything so carefully and in the detail and language that we ordinary people can follow. Absolutely brilliant. Thankyou!
Like everyone else I was blown away with the clarity of your instructions. I'd watched lots of others and failed to understand why our ceiling wiring is different and now it is crystal clear. I'll get some cable connectors and some 3 core wire and make sure all the wires go in the right place. Thanks for sharing it.
Thank you. I'm originally from Hungary and wanted to fit my new ceiling light with the 2 wires and nearly had a stroke when I saw all of those coming from my ceiling. Great video.
I had a situation like this. Old house, nonstandard wiring (they had unsleeved, unconnected earth wires, blue wires connected to earth, earth carrying switch live..) and tackling it was really daunting With the help of your video I managed to disconnect it all, reconnect it properly and I now have modern kitchen lighting and a very happy partner. Thank you ❤️
This is absolutely brilliant. I've seen good videos - and bad, I've also been on a course, but this is the one that I need. I had disconnected everything without realizing the complexities and I have a feeling this is the life saver because this is the only video that mentions getting additional wiring, and explains the spec of the additional wire. I love the fact you are using wagos and showing how the old wires have been fitted with them, and also showing the setup from factory of the new rose. Just perfect. Will let you know how I get on - next week perhaps. Thanks again.
I've done it. Sorry forgot to update my post. It was, as I expected, quite easy. I did have a problem with my own rose as it is designed for no cables on either side while my light has in-out cables as they feed other lights further down. But your video helped very much. Thanks again
Massive thank you for uploading this video. I have been trawling the internet for the past hour trying to understand how I'm meant to fit so many wires into my new light fitting and couldn't understand what I needed. This video clearly explained what I was missing and I have now ordered all the parts you suggested. Your video was clearly explained and super helpful!
Thank you , thank you, so much for sharing this information with us. I was completely at a loss, I’d forgotten to photo the original wiring and was in a quandary as how I was going to fix this issue. Your video is so easy to follow, I did stop it and watched it section by section, completing each section before going to the next. BIG thumbs up to you.👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much. I have watched loads of videos and never understood what happened to the extra brown cables, the other tutorials got to a certain point and they just disappeared. Now i know what to do. So helpful. X
You are an angel sent by heaven to help electricity noobs like me. I have the exact same setup as you, only my neutrals are black, even my light fitting connector block looks identical and I ordered the same clippy orange grey blocks from amazon. But whatever I tried my fuse box tripped. I will have been is despair the last two days, and the electrician is busy at the moment. I will try again using your video as a guide. Hopefully I will be victorious over the ceiling spaghetti monster 👹 🍝
Best explained way of changing a pendant light to a light fitting. Fair play to you I think you've helped a lot of people turn what seems to be a nightmare of a job to a simple way of showing people the correct way. Good on you lovley. 👏 👏👍👍
You explained and demonstrated this very well I’m going to change 3 pendent lights in various parts of the house with ceiling lights Thank you very much Dave Lloyd
Absolutely brilliant mate. I've been tryna get a sparky friend down who offered to do a few things like this but could never get hold of him. I've been wondering what I needed to purchase in order to convert the old wiring to the new fitting. I was tempted to use the old pendant fitting like a junction box in the ceiling, but this makes more sense and looks safer. 👌 Well-done mate, I'm gonna get back to my renovation now, have had lots of little jobs to do and almost ready for the final decorating now. These electrics have been holding me up though.
Omg i thought id never find a vedio which explains this in such a simple way. I cant thank you enough. Youve just saved me alot of money on an electrician. I need to do 6 lights with this method. What a great person you are.
Thank you so much. 🙏 My brother is an electrician but I can’t ask him to come and help me at the moment. I don’t need him at all now. 🤣😂 My old home thanks you as well. Keep up the great videos. 👏👏♥️
I usually don't leave comments but I thought it would be absolutely unfair not to support you after you've saved me a couple of bucks. I refrain from buying ceiling lights just because of the fitting issue which you've effortlessly simplified in your very informative video. Yet to put up my new light but I'm positive about it now that I've watched your video. Many thanks and keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain, I've just bought all the bits from wilko's! They even sell the wago connectors in small quantities so I didn't have to buy a million of them! Thanks again 😁👍
I watched 2 or 3 videos on this subject before this one, and had just about decided it was a bit to complicated for this bear of very little brain, then I watched this one...and a quick trip to Argos for the fitting and bulbs, followed by B&Q for the cable and Screwfix for the Wago connectors, back home and without any B/S did the job start to finish in about half an hour. The most complicated part was leaving this comment. Many thanks for your help So Lite!
Thanks so much. I watched about 8 videos before yours (so called pros ;)) and yours was the best and made the most sense. One happy son (and wife) he now has his new light fitting. Thanks again.
Brilliant video. Ive watched at least 6,000,000 videos on you tube of big burly guys running through this and still didnt understand what the hell they were doing...and this is the one that explains everything clear and concise.
Brilliant, very well explained, plus you kept your hand clear so we could see all that was needed, where as other videos move the fitting around so much you tend to miss bits.
A really big thank you for this beautifully presented video...you would be an excellent trainer and have a lovely voice BTW. I was going to get an electrician out to do this until I came across your video... saved myself some money. Could not find any other videos that shows how to do this...in a clear way! All the best
I wish I'd have tracked this down earlier - I spent three hours this afternoon swapping one ceiling fitting for another one (same 'modern' type) and I tried to copy what the professional electrician had done before - putting the pairs of wires from the ceiling together into the empty end of the screw-in block in the new fitting. VERY difficult as the wires are thick single copper which don't stuff very well as pairs into the little holes!! Or rather, the little screws weren't really man enough to bear down on the two thick wires. Nightmare! I never thought of using an intermediary piece of wire and I'd never heard of these WAGO (?) joiners, so I'm going to get some and re-do the job as I wasn't 100% satisfied with what I eventually managed to do this afternoon! Thanks for the video!
Thank you for the Vid finally someone that is not pro but someone at home like me that got these connectors I’m in the Netherlands similar wiring color for ground
The most straightforward light changing demo I've seen. I'm changing my friends defunct old bathroom light because: A: the light is over 30 years old and the metal terminal to the bulb has disintegrated. B: He's hopeless on such things. C: Try getting a qualified sparks to come out for a 15 minute job. D: I reckon he'd want a good £200 for it!
Good video. I've just had to replace the downstairs cloakroom light and there are even more wires! Cables to the extractor fan too. Unfortunately the light fitting has a large flat disc as the base plate so there is nowhere to put cables - they all need to go into the roof cavity. I've used Wago's for this but they need to go into a protective box that will fit through the hole in the ceiling. Not found one yet.....
Best video on this subject matter out there yet... Keep up the great works... Very easy and clear to follow with every stage and step explained.... Perfect 😎👍🕺 you've just made a subscriber outta me... Thank you as you saved my life 🙏🙏🙏
Very clear instructions I came across the same kind of wiring upstairs looked like spaghetti junction 😳 when I took the fitting off, so very helpful thank u 🤔
Thank you very much. The cool new spotlights has three wires, the ceiling had a huge bunch of bullshit hanging out of it. I now have kitchen spotlights!
You won't believe this is what I was looking for, word for word, going from boring pendant to like yours. When I first removed the pendant rose was confused the hell about how many cables but your video explains it well. Waiting for wago connectors, wire stripper and 3 core cable to arrive. A question about 3 core cable, I've come across a few that look the same but have numbers like 3093y etc. Any idea what the differences are? Once again thanks for the video

I was so proud of myself when I switched the power back on and it worked.... Later on, I noticed all the other lights on the same floor stopped working. Yikes, £18 light, now costed me £47 on Wado packs, 3 core wire and automatic wire stripper. Will see if I can fix it tomorrow!
You have been so much help! Thanks, you. I've watched so many different videos for this task, but this is the only one that truly helped.

Finally someone who have same problem as I do, and knows how to do it and explain it! Great video! 👍🏾
Thank you. I'm originally from Hungary and wanted to fit my new ceiling light with the 2 wires and nearly had a stroke when I saw all of those coming from my ceiling. Great video.
Thank you for taking the time. How did people survive without on-hand videos covering the exact topic that was driving them mad? So well explained.
I had a situation like this. Old house, nonstandard wiring (they had unsleeved, unconnected earth wires, blue wires connected to earth, earth carrying switch live..) and tackling it was really daunting

Glad to hear it, well done!
I was having trouble with a pendent light to the point where i went for 3months with no ceiling light in my bedroom. This video was my saving grace
Brilliantly explained! Also the wago connectors i bought a 75 piece set for £19 & its the best money ive ever spent!

Looks like wago connectors. Although there are similar products on the market. Hope this helps.
Excellent video, one of the best descriptions for this changeover i have seen.

Thank you so much. The multi wires in the pendant freaked me out but you made it super simple
Very well explained. I bought a new light thinking it would be two cables. Until I u screwed the ceiling fitting. This helps a lot. Thank you
Thank you very much for this - just what I needed to get the courage to replace a crusty old pendant light hanging by its wires.

Thank you so much for this video. You have really explained it so a non DIY expert like myself can understand!
Brilliant. Was unsure how to proceed. The Wago connectors are awesome and take so little space. Great tips. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
By far the simplest and best explanation on youtube......Thanks
thank you your video is so detailed and well explained you have saved me a lot of money instead of getting an electrician to do it
