Almost word-for-word the the minimum specs I give to new prospective players on Twitch and elsewhere, but you have _done the testing,_ and I thank you for that on behalf of thrifty gamers everywhere. 😎
The other thing to know is that the quality settings on low move processing away from the GPU to the CPU, and on high away from the CPU to the GPU. So if your system has a fast CPU but low-end GPU, lower quality settings may help. But if you have a powerful GPU with an older CPU, then very high is the way to go. You can see the loading split between the CPU and GPU shift as you change quality settings.
Very important video for many people. Right now those minimum specs seem a bit high, but by the time Star Citizen comes to beta/release, those will be really nothing special for most people
I play this game but i strip the settings down to the bare minimum. The PC i have is 6-7 years old. Even on such low settings it looks fantastic and blows other games out of the water. However money for me has always been tight and I've always had to use second hand or lesser powerful tech to get my foot in the PC door. So I am used to it. I prefer performance over quality anyway.
I use i7-7700k (4-core), 1060 (6gb), 32gb, SSD. I consider this the absolute minimum if you don't want to be pulling your hair out (but I would not build a new system at this level). It works, not great performance but frames are almost always >20fps (excepting lorville and orison and certain other buggy areas). Encouragingly, frames are better than they were >2 years ago, so they are optimizing and not just building for top systems.
Good video mate, and right on time since many will be looking to try SC during the upcoming free flight. But FYI my old system is running a Ryzen 1700x and not only do I play SC on it, but I record footage and often get better game session experience than my friends running Intel chips. I was doing so with 1700x, GTX 1070 and 16GB RAM although I eventually upgraded to 32GB.
Most important part is its still Alpha, its not optimized, but it is getting better, but until its optimized. As one of the ppl who tried to play this game with a top of the line 8 year old computer, it just can't do it, you need that M2 drive, 32 gigs ram, and a good vid card (more modern), and with shader 12 coming hopefully we'll see that optimization
I don't think 32 GB of RAM is needed. 16 is enough, I am able to play comfortably without hitting full RAM almost ever. But the performance should, of course be better with 32.
@@Ned7567 Well simply running discord and my internet browser in multiple tabs on my 2nd monitor and im at 20 gigs. You'd have to really streamline things and run nothing else but SC to not exhaust 16 gb
With GPU prices through the roof atm and youre thinking about buying a used 1060 6GB then I would recommend going for the RX 580 8GB from AMD if priced similarly. In terms of actual performance these cards are very close but with the game using up to 8GB vram very often I would recommend going with an 8GB card. As for a Budget cpu I would recommend a Ryzen 3700x on a B450 board. Intel alternatives while a bit faster in single core sadly come with 6 cores max. When going with Ryzen remember to always pair it with at least 3600 ram. 3800 is better but nothing faster than that. Its an fclk thing. Over 3800 your cpu speed actually drops. Dual ranked ram moules can also improve ryzen performance. Also if youre on a Sata SSD there is no need to upgrade to nvme just for that game. Youll get a few seconds faster initial loading but once youre in the game it doesnt matter. Last thing to note. On Ryzen it might actually be beneficial for (purely star citizen) gaming performance to deactivate SMT.
The video's I made on magpie and lossless scaling were both made with nvidia cards! It just works and is pretty straightforward to set up! th-cam.com/video/RlSieSMcFIo/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/e5Qx6kanYi8/w-d-xo.html
Good day Sir! In my quest to stay cheap and get the most performance from the older work station angle, here is what I have accomplished so far. i purchased a used HP Z640 with dual xeon e5-1609 v4 processors/ 32g ddr4 / 500g ssd for $400usd. I ordered 2 Xeon e5-2673 v4's and an additional 32g ddr4 ram. Total cost is just under $1000 usd. I currently use a HP Z420 with xeon e5-2687w v2 / 32g dddr 3 / rx 5700xt 8g / 256 ssd. It runs SC at 1080p but similiar to a lower end system. The dual cpu rig will be a vast improvement in performance. I will have a dual cpu combo with 40 cores / 80 threads and 50m of L3 cache on each cpu. I went this route as I like to do video editing for family videos of the kids/grandkids/ motorcycle riding etc. When I finally get it together I'll check in with you.

It offers an extremely cheap solution to play SC with acceptable FPS at 1080p. Thought I would add this to your vast collective of data you have acquired. Thanks again for all your work with testing SC. Cheers!
I've been told if you set the graphics setting to High or Highest it will mostly use the GPU. If you set the setting to Medium or Low it will try to use more of the CPU. So if you have a good card use the high(er) settings. If you have an older graphics card use the low/medium settings. As you said I played it on an i5 with 16g of ram and an old 1050T Nvidia card. Yes, I had to have a 30g pagefile "on the SSD" (only) that the game was on. With that I was getting around 15-18fps in the cities. I now play the game on an i7 with 32g of ram and an RTX3070 and get 30fps.
Yeah the theory about graphics settings makes sense. I did try to test it a while ago but I found that there wasn't any actual difference between the settings, apart from in the hangar! But it's worth giving a go. Glad you're getting better frames on the new system!
For the Intel side, I had 2 computers both with: i5 2500k 16gb ram SSD GTX 970 I have since upgraded one of them, but the other I've been able to play SC fine (30-60fps in space and on moons, 20-30 fps in cities, depending on servers) every patch until Crusader and Orison released. Now it's ok in space but its 2-7fps in Orison.
same FPS problems at my setup, ryzen 5 3600, RTX 3060 12gb, 32 GB 3200 mhz RAM with M2SSD. It Might need a Ryzen 7 oder 9 with better single core Performance or more cpus than 6 ... The problem is not the Hardware - game is horrible programmed.
built a pc with my 8 year old who plays some SC with me (mostly mining and shopping before I get lectures). cost ~$450 for the build although I did bequeath monitor/keyboard and mouse from my old stuff. plays 1440p@30+FPS in all areas save server bottleneck. bought all second hand - ryzen 3600+B450 m'board+cooler ($250), GTX980 ($105 - a good deal now I know), 16GB 3000mhz ddr4 ($50), 500GB 550MB/s sata SSD ($20), case+fans etc ($30). made sure to set up large SSD page file. PS I upgraded recently to ryzen 5900X + gen 4 M.2@7KMB/s instead of 7900X + 3KMB/s M.2 but using the same 1080Ti as before, saw an instant uplift of about 10-15 FPS, was surprised it had such a big impact.
I got a $740 acer nitro laptop. I5 9300h, 16gb ram, GTX 1650 256 GB m2 ssd. Game runs perfectly fine. Cities will hang around 20-25 fps in some places but overall is around 30 fps, stations get 30+ fps, space 30+ fps, entering planet atmosphere depends on planet, some dip during entry but then go back to 30 when I'm below the cloud line, others have no dip. Have had maybe 2 crashes in 4 weeks of play. Gameplay is both space/ground combat, and mining.
The 9th gen cpu and gtx 1650 probably makes a huge difference. I have the model before yours with i5 8th gen and gtx 1050 ti. It plays SC OK. Lags in area18 and landing on planets take patience. Crashed into the surface a few times from going too fast and not being able to see the surface. Haven't figured out how to get fps to show in game though so not sure what it runs at. But would say probably half of your setup.
@@David-iz2pc here I uploaded a vid a while back, can pretty much see how getting down to a planet runs for me on my laptop. th-cam.com/video/g9jIxXHwiJw/w-d-xo.html
would like to see optimal specs too have seen someone with a custom build for star citizen specifically for example it was focused on single core performance or something like that?
I did make a video (Star Citizen PC Build 2021) that focuses on the higher end, it still holds up pretty well now! But effectively you are right, fast single threaded performance is key. So the newest CPUs from intel and AMD are the best bet. 32gb ram is ideal and then GPU depends on what resolution you are using! Check out the video for more info!
My cousin has a PC built with the same specs I built mine with [Ryzen 5800X] [RTX3070] [32GB RAM] [NVME SSD] but the difference is he's using a [4k 120hz OLED TV] while I'm using a [ultrawide that is slightly more than 1440p. Makes a huge difference in performance so I'm trying to convince him to use one of the upscaling programs you mentioned. He keeps asking why upscaling isn't already in the game.
Yeah 4K is not easy to run, even with that very nice system! They've mentioned that they will put in DLSS and FSR eventually, but yeah you have to hack it in at the moment!
@@tenpoundfortytwo Wish I had the same luck on the lottery as my cousin and I did with getting the RTX3070 last year on Newegg. We both won the draw on the same RTX3070 on the same day for close to MSRP. I had a GTX1660S and my cousin a 1080 before getting these.
Thanks for the video. Very informative and helpful ! I was scared to get into SC because of this Specs problem. I have an i5-10400 and an RTX 2060 (+SSD) and I will add another 16gb of ram to my PC. Hopefully I can run it with OK perfomances. Anyways thx again for the video :D.
No problem! Yeah its a bit of a scary game to get into. You should be pretty good with that system but there is a free fly event coming up from nov 19th to dec 1st, so maybe try it out for free first!
@@Timosaurus48 It was a very pleasant experience. In terms of performance the 32gb of ram helped a lot and in general with my setup it was playable in most places with a few exceptions. I still play it with friends now.
I am running a Ryzen 5 2600x / ROG STRIX RX580 8Gb / 32 Gb 3200 MHz system on SSD. I still think I need to switch the game to an NVMe drive for better performance.
That's a well balanced system for SC. In the testing I've done nvme doesn't bring any noticeable improvement in performance. The best thing you could do would be upgrade to 3000 series ryzen or 5000 if your motherboard supports it.
I was sad to hear my rig is boarderline playable by your minimum requirements, lol. But I do get very acceptable performance to enjoy the game with, so maybe I'm lucky. Good video, tyvm o7
One of these days I will get around to troubleshooting the massive hitches I have with the game. It just stops but sound remains and my mouse cursor moves but the game just freezes. GPU goes to zero then after ten to thirty second it returns to normal. Ryzen 7 3700x 32gb ram. Ssd 1650 gtx gpu. Didn't have these issues before I upgraded my CPU and mobo...from my i5 sandy bridge CPU
Hmm I've not heard of that one before, sounds like something is not working properly. Clean install of drivers, game and maybe windows might be your best bet.
i am runing a RTX3090, 5950x , 32gb ram and installed the game on an 4x1tb nvme raid, runs fine with max details at 5120x1140, watercooled with kompressor support, my gpu gets 40degrees C under full load.
Whatever the PC, your FPS will suffer Been through 5900X, 64GB DDR4, 1TB NVMe SSD and 3080 and still have low FPS in NB or else... Good luck to anyone trying to optimize the FPS. Go for 32GB and a good CPU first and foremost
I think it might be a bit of a struggle for that system. But the good news is that there is a free fly event coming up where you can try the game for free- should start on the 17th. So you can see if the game will run before spending any money. Make sure to get a referral code from somewhere to get some free stuff before you create an account on the website.
Sadly my old gaming laptop with its i7-7700HQ quad core and Nvidia 1060 6GB weren't powerful enough, though I did at least have 32 GB of RAM. The framerate in the starting area was kinda decent, but when I went to go fly my ship out of the hangar the FPS dropped to slideshow quality >_< I took advantage of Cyber Monday to get a desktop built with an i7-12700K and a 3060 Ti, so I'm hoping my updated system will finally allow me to play and enjoy Star Citizen.
For that benchmark list at 1:26, why do the Ryzens have RTX3080s yet you gave the Intels crappy RX460s? A proper CPU comparison should have as many similar components as possible.
That's a good question! The point of that graph in particular is to show the scaling between the 4 core i3 8100 and 6 core i5 8400. I then tested the 5900x with only 4 cores enabled, 6, and then the full chip to see how that scaled. So it ends up being a bit of a mess of a graph and maybe should've been 2 separate graphs. But the point was to show how the game requires more than 4 cores, and the i5 result actually matches the 5900x (4 cores) even with the horrible RTX460 vs the 3080!
I'm still reluctant to buy the game because I don't think that my pc will run it well. I got a Ryzen 5 3600+32Gb DDR4 2400Mhz Ram+GTX1650 Phoenix+M.2 1Tb WD+750W PSU on a Rog Strix B450F Gaming mother board running Windows 10 Home, so if I'm going to experience low fps or in game crashes I rather wait until I can get a higher tier gaming pc, but paying 45-75$ for a starter pack is expensive for me if I can't get the game running properly will be throwing away money on a game that I can't enjoy decently. What do you think should I do? upgrade only cpu and gpu for higher tier ones will be enough? Thanks
You should definitely try it out for free when the next free fly event is on- should be one later this month! I think you'll get pretty rough performance, and it's a very buggy experience, but worth trying for free.
I've been doing some testing with Magpie and Star Citizen doesn't like it one bit. Its fine with any other game but the moment I boot up SC it just throws a wobbler and starts chugging and stuttering. Maybe I'm expecting too much but my native 4K (borderless full screen) performance is better than 1080p (windowed) with magpie upscaling. (3900X - 6800XT - 32gbRAM - SSD etc.) Edit: Same deal if I try 1440p to 4K with Magpie. Performance appears worse.
Interesting! I did have an issue with my 3080 where something was going on with the power profile and when magpie was open the gpu clock speed was very low. But that's nvidia and if its working in other games, that's probably not it. Maybe give lossless scaling a go.
Shit, I actually uninstalled the game because I thought my spec was not enough at a low setting. I have… i5 9600K LGA1151 NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 16GB RAM I never realized that the game switched to use my CPU on low setting. I literally thought that their optimization was worse now.
sounds pretty legit all around. however, i've done some of my own testing with RAM over the past 2 PCs i've had playing SC. 12GB can run it in some locations sometimes, but cities will likely CTD. 16GB will run fine, but will eat into the page file. past this is were opinions and facts differ. when watching resource manager the most i've seen windows and SC use together is 20GB RAM. so, this actually leaves a couple options, if your motherboard has 4 RAM slots. sure you can enter 2 in the quantity box when ordering 16GB kits and have 12GB of headroom or you can buy a 16GB kit and a matching 8GB kit for 24GB leaving 4GB of RAM headroom. which is enough for background recording, etc... and $40-$50 of extra digital spaceships lol
There will be a free flight event coming up in the next couple of months so you can try it out for free. But yeah, prepare for less than great performance!
Honestly probably not, that CPU is going to really struggle. The settings dont really do anything at this point, so they won't really make any difference.
Using a i7 2600k, gtx 770 and 16gb ram here. Playing every now and then troughout the years, not all activities are that bad. 30fps on a space station is sometimes possible. Some stuff is just not fun or possible but I guess my love for the project drags me through those moments. Have been stuck in the new babbage metro once at IAE last year where my pc just couldnt get enough time to render the next area and I wasn't able to exit it.
Thanks for the video mate I have a very powerfull PC on the high end currently and still barely manage to get 24 fps at horizon and there are stutters everywhere... But still, I love that game so much ^^
So i play on a laptop i7 8th gen and 1050 4gb and 16gb ram its ok on 720p graphics and ill get upto 50 fps i also played on a hdd for the first 3 months it was ok deffinatly better once i got a ssd but its still playable on hdd just super long load times
2015 or close to there : i Did free to play with the cutty black.... /ddr3 ..x12 gig ram... hp 6700 onboard graphics.... i barely walked around! got to look at every thing though! :>)
I play the game on low settings and it feels like it should play better then it does. my system has an i5-8400, 32gb ram on 2666hz cause my motherboard cant run them faster,a gtx1660ti and it is on an ssd but its not m2 since my motherboard doesnt have a slot for it. In cities I get around 30fps and thats fine by me since I get off them as soon as possible but the problems appear when I go bounty hunting in asteroid areas and stuff like that in space where I should have a solid 60 but it just sometimes drops from those 60 down to 45 and does that every 5 seconds and it makes it a pain to play fixed weapons on any ship since the fps throws off my aim. Is there any way I can improve fps in situations like these? Oh and stuttering is also very common and judgeing by the gameplay with the same system I saw online it shouldnt be that bad.
Unfortunately your only really option for better performance is a newer CPU. That i5 8400 is what I'd recommend as a minimum spec, but the new intel CPUs and ryzen 5000 series really make a huge difference in performance. But new CPUs and motherboards are not cheap unfortunately!
@@tenpoundfortytwo Speaking specifically from a standpoint of having decent frames and then suddenly dipping down for no reason, and then suddenly popping back up. Or having stutters. I believe that's something to do with the actual SC patch itself. I've noticed this. This particular release, 3.15.1 seems to be somewhat buggy. But not in the same sense as usual, something is going on with the frames. And it's not the new easy anti-cheat (EAC) either. Although that has made things a bit worse with FPS as people have reported *everywhere* No, the actual Dippin frames and then popping back up has nothing to do with EAC as far as I can tell but it has been made worse from its activation. Hopefully 3.16 will be a little better.
i used a gtx 1060 6gb for a while and i really dont think this is a good enough card. i only get about 40-45 frames and i have to play 900p on medium graphics to achieve this
Yeah it's a bit underpowered now unless you turn off the clouds. I've started recommending the 1660 series as the minimum gpu for now- need to do a new version of this video!
Hi, thanks for video! I first saw Star citizen years ago. Was impressed by what I saw, but at the time didn't have a computer capable of running it. I have a low-ish end gaming laptop now that I was hoping might allow me to try out the game. My system specs exceed the listed required specs, but I was a little dubious. I have a laptop with a Ryzen 5 4600H 6 core, GTX1660Ti 6gig ddr6 ram, 32gig 3200ddr4 system Ram and fast M.2 drive I believe the 1660ti comes in just shy of a gtx1070, so that puts me a bit above your suggested minimum specs. I appreciate I will get slowdown and glitching, but I can live with that. I understand I'll be at the lower end for hardware, but it's not about that right now. I can build a better system in time if I choose to invest in this game, but for now I'm confident I can dip my foot in with what I have right now. Thanks again for taking the time and effort, and expense to bring us this very helpful video. You have a new sub sir!
No problem and thanks for subbing! I think you should definitely be able to get in game and see if what's it's all about with that system. You can always wait for the next free fly event so that you can try the game out without spending any money. There should be one coming in the next couple of months. Also, make sure you get a referral code from someone when you create your account to get some extra starting money! SC is still a bit of a buggy mess, but I think you can start to see where it's heading!
@@tenpoundfortytwo Thanks for those tips. Try out for free sounds good, although I'm not sure I'll be able to wait. May have to dive in. Do you have a referral code?

I'll be updating my Star Citizen PC Build 2021 video with a 2022 version in January, but the main thing that's changed is now recommending the new Intel CPUs over the Ryzen 5000 series. And then the complication is trying to get hold of a GPU at some sort of reasonable price! A medium to med-high tier build is a good idea and I'll add it to my list. I may end up recommending some builds for different budgets. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@tenpoundfortytwo Just going to throw this out there. What do you think a 12th Gen i9 12900k, 64 GB of next gen *DDR5* RAM, and a RTX 3090 would do? Just for kicks. Your opinion.
That's a good question! Its pretty much the best build you can buy right now (if you can actually buy it). I'm hoping to do some ddr5 testing as soon as I can get some. Based on my testing of the 12700kf, the i9 should be pretty great for SC. You'd probably be able to push 4k with the 3090, but you'd probably still be CPU bottlenecked in some areas.
@@tenpoundfortytwo Hard to believe you'd be CPU bottlenecked with that kind of CPU hahaha. But I suppose that's SC's fault as software rather than a hardware problem. That CPU is beefy. So I’m able to boot the game up now, but I’ve run into a problem of fps stability. My FPS wants to just jump around constantly. Is there any way to be able to at least semi stabilize my frames. Also how would I down scale from 1080p to 720p? I feel like that could give me a significant performance increase.
720p is as simple as just changing the resolution in the graphics settings. The fps jumping is probably just normal SC performance I'm afraid! Try lowering the resolution and see if that makes any difference.
@@tenpoundfortytwo I thought that’s how you do it, but when I changed the res settings it just changed the size of the game screen. So I’m not sure. I must be an idiot for not being able to figure it out.

For the cpu, check out my 5800x3d review, that's currently the best cpu for star Citizen and should be compatible with your motherboard. Amd might be releasing a 5600x3d which would be cheaper and a good option too. For monitors I'd recommend looking at the Hardware Unboxed TH-cam channel, they have lots of guides and reviews. Check out this video that I did testing a laptop: th-cam.com/video/Ngu6rUmK3zw/w-d-xo.html I'm not sure what CPU you'll have in your laptop, that will be the main thing that decides performance. Maybe wait for the next free fly event so you can check SC out for free!
I have higher than all of this (Ryzen 5 2600x, 16GB RAM, 1080Ti) and yet I can't spawn in without getting stuck in a wall. However it looks like it might be because I was using a HDD, so thanks for this video, I will give it another try. I'm looking to buy a better CPU at some point anyway.
Laptops are on my list of thing to test this year, but they're very expensive, so I'm trying to work out a way of getting hold of some without going bankrupt! So hopefully at some point I'll start to be able to recommend something. The current alder lake desktop CPUs are the best at the moment and I'd guess that the high end laptop versions would be the best bet. Sorry not to be more helpful!
I am looking to get a 3050 ti laptop 60w tgp, i7 11800h, will need to upgrade the ram from 8gb to probably 16gb to start with but hopefully 32gb down the line, I can't see any reviews for Star Citizen using the 3050 ti do you think it will run it possibly ok like Medium settings seen some 1660 ti which is similar but hoping dlss when added may help quite a bit thanks
That's a very good question! I've not managed to look at laptops yet (but hopefully this year), but I've had a quick look for you. th-cam.com/video/fbn1P0y06Hg/w-d-xo.html this video does a general comparison and gives an idea. SC can be fairly GPU intensive in certain areas, the new volumetric clouds can be particularly brutal. According to this technical.city/en/video/GeForce-GTX-1060-6-GB-vs-GeForce-RTX-3050-Ti-mobile it looks like the 3050ti performs a little better than the 1060 6gb (my recommended min spec GPU), so it should get you in the game, but performance won't be great. You have the option of using image scaling tech like NIS or FSR, so you could get a bit of extra performance there (check out my videos on those if you haven't seen them). The 4gb of VRAM is a bit of a risk in my opinion, that's pretty low for 2022 and I'd probably want at least 6gb. If you could find a laptop with a 3060, I think that would be a longer term option. But obviously more money. Also, just make sure you definitely can swap out the ram, not all laptops actually let you change it! Sorry for the ramble, hope that's a little bit helpful.
is it possible to run on a higher end surface laptop 3? im really not sure what kind of graphics my computer can handle. Have you heard of anyone playing star citizen comfortably on a laptop?
My 3900x and 3080 do me fantastically with Star Citizen. Along with 32gb of gskill trident. I can run it in 4k medium to high detail settings and can hit over 60fps most of the time. Along as I'm not in Orison that is.🙄🤣 They should call it Lagson instead. I wasn't around for Lagski but I've heard the stories.👌😆
my laptop on loads i mean loads of games including AAA modern games CPU runs at 4ghz locked. on this game 2.7ghz (base frequency) soon as that happens get around 30/40fps can go down as much as 15FPS... The old saying can it run Crisis more like can it run Star Citizen lol laptop is a I7 9750H, RTX 2060, 16TB RAM and 3TB of NVME storage and this struggles lol
@@tenpoundfortytwo The latest update it got worse 🤣. They do need to have Vulcan and DLSS etc to help because right now it's poor performance. I love the game but it's that bad am always dying in space or FPS combat because used to over 100fps 🤣😂🤣. Think next update sort out performance and bugs. Don't add things. Get the problems fixed before add things in my opinion. Like player base they forcing people that want it not to get it because it's so bad on performance. They want money fix that get more players in the game = more money lol
Bought a hp business desktop with i7 8700, 1tb m.2 and 32gb ram for £200. Added a low profile rx6400 and I’m surprised it’s actually playable….at 720p lol. Never thought it’d be playable on a sub £400 build. Can’t say it’s an amazing experience but hey I’m poor.
You can give it a go! Next time there is a free flight event you can try for free. I used to have a 3770k, performance was pretty bad 5 years ago, but the game runs slightly better now.
I testet a i7 5820k @4.2GHz with a GTX 1070 and ist works great, most of the time i got over 30 FPS with very high settings while using thus system. So older CPUs should be fine als long as they have 6 cores
Hi uhm can i play with a amd ryzen graphics and 8 gb of ram if i take the lowest settings? Cause i wanna try it on my laptop and when i got my pc i will play on the pc
8gb of RAM will be a problem unfortunately, the minimum requirement is 16gb, I'm not sure it will even run with 8. Ryzen graphics should work if you turn the resolution down far enough. Your best bet is probably to wait until the next free fly event so you can try it for free, but again I'm not sure it will even load!
I'm curious how the performance I'd face with: Ryzen 5 5600X RX 6700XT NVMe M.2 Ripjaw DDR4-2666 2x8GB (16gb) I play 1080p and I prefer to run games on high or more, but people are telling me I will have quite the problems with my RAM which is keeping me from wanting to buy the game...
Hey if you check out my Ryzen comparison video (th-cam.com/video/Pz7c0VEFjfg/w-d-xo.html), that should give you a rough idea of how the 5600x will handle the game. While 32gb is better than 16gb, 16gb should run the game fine. If I were you I'd probably wait for the next free fly event- you can try out the game for free and decide if you want to spend money on it in its current state (it's pretty buggy and can be frustrating). Make sure you get a referral code from someone before you create an account on the website!
@@tenpoundfortytwo I appreciate it, I am halfway through the video now. Looks like my specs all would hold up as well I would hope. Again, it was just people telling me about the 16gb struggles. I don't mind bugginess (it is not fully released after all). I've played and currently play through Early Access and Alpha/Beta games. It is the consistent (not counting random drops due to lack of optimization here and there) that I more so care about with this game.
Yeah the 16gb thing is sometimes over exaggerated! 32gb is smoother overall ( I have a 16gb Vs 32gb ram video), but other than occasionally causing crashes (that can normally be fixed by increasing the size of your pagefile), 16gb should be playable.ans obviously you can upgrade if you want to.
I used to have Ryzen 7 2700x. I would like to make it clear you will not be able to compete in PVP with that. My graphics card is rtx 2060 6gb. I now upgraded to ryzen 7 5600x and can now compete in PvP.
@@tenpoundfortytwo RSI telemetry helped me decide. The only graphics card that the website showed that would help in anyway was the top range 3080. All others showed very little differences with my R7 2700x. Where as the R7 5600x with my graphics card gave about ten extra average frames in PU for £350. Now Arena commander is smooth as! So happy.
It should run- I've had it running with 12gb. You need to make sure that your page file is big enough so that the game cab use system memory instead of actual ram. You will likely get some big stutters at certain points, but it should at least run! I'd probably recommend waiting for the next free flight event so you can try it out for free!
Hi, I'm a new star citizen player I have an i5-8600k and 1070ti and 24 gb ram. I play with everything at low and my cpu is still 100% all the time while the gpu is 40% all the time. Lots of stuttering. I have 2 nvme and game is installed on one of them. Not on the one with windows thought. Any advices on game settings or some settings in console or user.cfg to improve gameplay and improve stability? Are there some tricks that make fps increase?
Hello, unfortunately, you are going to be be pretty CPU bound with the 8600k and there isn't really any trick or user.cfg setting that helps with that. Overclocking the CPU as much as possible if probably your best bet, or an upgrade to the 8th/9th gen i7 or i9- but that won't help performance too much. Ultimately you're probably going to want a new CPU at some point I'm afraid!
@@tenpoundfortytwo Hi, thanks for your reply, I've got my i5-8600k at 4.80 Ghz at all times all cores, can;t squeeze more out of it. I was thinking of going towards i7-12700k but the new motherboards add so much to the cost. I saw that starting with the 3.15 patch they are going to work on optimizing the game with the gen12&vulkan slowly implemented in the game. What are your thoughts about this?
Yeah the new motherboards are pretty expensive unfortunately. There doesn't seem to be any improvement in 3.15.1 itself, but hopefully over the next few patches performance will improve with gen 12/ vulkan. So waiting is not a bad option!
Hi awesome informative info great info thanks for your hard work! Just 1 question do you know if there is there a benefit to upgrade from pcie 3 to pcie 4 will there be a noticeable difference?
That's a good question, and something I'm planning to test in the nearish future. But based on my previous testing, there was no perceivable difference between a standard sata SSD and a pcie 3 drive, so I doubt there will be any benefit by going to pcie 4. But I'm still planning to test it!
Thanks! I think you should be just about ok, there is a free fly event coming up on the 17th Feb, so I'd be tempted to try the game out for free then. You can see how performance is and see if you want to buy a game package. Make sure you get a referral code from someone when you create an account on the website for some in game armour and credits, if you create it after the 17th. Mine is STAR-H2MD-7H7K if you need it (whoever's code you use gets a referral bonus). Let me know how you get on and how the game runs!
The 11700k should still be decent for SC, but intel made a big jump forward with the 12th gen. Potentially the 10700k might be cheaper and will be almost the same as the 11700k.

I'll try that one and see what it does.
Yes
Sorry for my weird voice and low energy, I was a bit ill for this one!
Still human, don’t worry, it was interesting thanks for the video 👍
Very important video for many people. Right now those minimum specs seem a bit high, but by the time Star Citizen comes to beta/release, those will be really nothing special for most people
Haha I remember the same argument when the first alpha versions came out in the era of gtx 800-900 People kept saying that.
@@gabor5079 I'm sure when the new api and renderer comes online they will put optimization as well as more taxing features to give it higher fidelity.
Hi, can you tell me please what settings you have bare to the minimum? Thank you much.
For age I was waiting for a video sincer about the spec minimum in star citizen
That's a good point about recording footage, I suppose the extra cores of the 1700x would make something like that easier. Good to know thank you!
Until SC will not start utilizing multi-thread cpus(or I should say cpus true powaa) not many will be able to play this game. 😉
a strong cpu is far more important that a high end video card currently, fps is also very server dependant
I don't think 32 GB of RAM is needed. 16 is enough, I am able to play comfortably without hitting full RAM almost ever. But the performance should, of course be better with 32.
@@Ned7567 its enough to play yes but sc will often use 21-24gb of ram and without doubt runs better with 32gb of ram.
PLEASE Make a tutorial on and fsr for nvidia card, or magpie

@@tenpoundfortytwo Good idea. I'm going to carry on tinkering with. Magpie looks to have bags of potential.
Shit, I actually uninstalled the game because I thought my spec was not enough at a low setting. I have…
i5 9600K LGA1151
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
16GB RAM
I never realized that the game switched to use my CPU on low setting. I literally thought that their optimization was worse now.
Makes me glad I spent the extra for the rzyen 9 3900x and 1070
sounds pretty legit all around. however, i've done some of my own testing with RAM over the past 2 PCs i've had playing SC. 12GB can run it in some locations sometimes, but cities will likely CTD. 16GB will run fine, but will eat into the page file. past this is were opinions and facts differ. when watching resource manager the most i've seen windows and SC use together is 20GB RAM. so, this actually leaves a couple options, if your motherboard has 4 RAM slots. sure you can enter 2 in the quantity box when ordering 16GB kits and have 12GB of headroom or you can buy a 16GB kit and a matching 8GB kit for 24GB leaving 4GB of RAM headroom. which is enough for background recording, etc... and $40-$50 of extra digital spaceships lol
this is an awesome video, it will be looked back upon, unless anything changes soon
Thanks!
I had hope before I watched the video. Now I'm crying.

There will be a free flight event coming up in the next couple of months so you can try it out for free. But yeah, prepare for less than great performance!
@@tenpoundfortytwo But do you think it would run on a playable level on the lowest settings?
Honestly probably not, that CPU is going to really struggle. The settings dont really do anything at this point, so they won't really make any difference.

Wish I could run SC again but with my AMD RYZEN 5 3600, SSD, 1050ti, and 32gb RAM I just can't run it smooth enough
You could try some upscaling with the 1050ti, but yeah unfortunately SC is brutal!
Yea I use a 3600 and 1070 and the game just lags and then crash, I think it has to do with my ram speeds being 2333 and not 3200
I find turning down the volumetric clouds to medium helps.
2015 or close to there : i Did free to play with the cutty black.... /ddr3 ..x12 gig ram... hp 6700 onboard graphics.... i barely walked around! got to look at every thing though! :>)
I have this setup (1070) today and it's kind of playable. i9-9900 in the mail.
Although that has made things a bit worse with FPS as people have reported *everywhere*
No, the actual Dippin frames and then popping back up has nothing to do with EAC as far as I can tell but it has been made worse from its activation. Hopefully 3.16 will be a little better.

I have a laptop with a Ryzen 5 4600H 6 core, GTX1660Ti 6gig ddr6 ram, 32gig 3200ddr4 system Ram and fast M.2 drive
I believe the 1660ti comes in just shy of a gtx1070, so that puts me a bit above your suggested minimum specs.

And that's probably an understatement.

Psu might be quite close, but should run the parts you've listed. Ssd, as long as you've got space you'll be fine, but they are not too expensive to get another if needed.
@@tenpoundfortytwo When you say my PSU might be quite close, what do you mean? The original PSU was a Coolermaster 700W 80 Plus (white label) I believe, and over 12 years old.

I actually played with a Seagate ssd/hdd hybrid and it didn't run bad at all.
Good to know, thanks!
I used to have Ryzen 7 2700x. I would like to make it clear you will not be able to compete in PVP with that. My graphics card is rtx 2060 6gb.
I now upgraded to ryzen 7 5600x and can now compete in PvP.
Yeah it's definitely going to be hard to be competitive with a minimum spec machine. Nice upgrade!
So happy.
I think i'm on the save side with a intel i7 9700kf and rtx 3070 with 32 gb of ram
i got everything but the minimum 16gb required, do i have any chances to play it with 13gb ram?
@@tenpoundfortytwo thanks for the answer 👍😊 I think it'll be an interesting test for sure 👌
Well done, good information.
Thanks!
Hi tenpound! What is that program you use for stutter analysis?
I use CapframeX for all my testing, it's great!
@@tenpoundfortytwo Ok i will check it out, thanks!
I just subbed thanks for the info.. I have a 1650 super and ryzen 5 3600 6 core and 32gigs of ram do you think that will be okay.
@@tenpoundfortytwo Ok cool thanks
So trying to play on 8gb of ram, mechanical hard drive and a 1050 is a good idea?
There is nothing stopping you trying! But 8gb of ram might stop the game from loading at all!
How do we increase the size of our page files? Or is that not needed if we have 64gb DDR4
Definitely not needed if you have 64gb of RAM!
Working on my first pc build, would you recommend the Intel Core i7-11700K 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor?
I'd go 12th gen if you possibly can!
@@tenpoundfortytwo Sadly it doesn't look like I'll be able to
The 11700k should still be decent for SC, but intel made a big jump forward with the 12th gen. Potentially the 10700k might be cheaper and will be almost the same as the 11700k.
@@tenpoundfortytwo well thanks for the info, if it runs fine that’s enough for me.
Would a AMD Ryzen 3 3200G 3.60 GHz with sapphire rx 550 4gb plus 16gb ram cut it???help please!
I think that will really struggle unfortunately! But there is a free fly event coming up soon so you can try out it without spending any money!
@@tenpoundfortytwo thank you....ladt question:if I install in an ssd and upgrade to 32gb ram would it help?
You definitely need it on an SSD and 32gb of ram would help, but ultimately your CPU and GPU are just not powerful enough I'm afraid.
