- Ghana is a great country. But I didn't expect to spend my first few days in Accra running from people possessed by spirits! The Ga tribe has a celebration every year called the Twins' Festival, part of a longer series of celebrations in August. This festival celebrates twins, as you might imagine. But it turned out to be a bit more complicated than that. If you handle the experience well, you might even receive the Ga community's highest honor: a friend of twins.

I visited Ghana in January of 2020 for two weeks and it was amazing! I spent a week in Accra and a week in Kumasi. The people and culture and art and food were beautiful. My visa is good until August of 2025 and I hope to return before then.
If you return, we can hang around and expolre Ghana better

Thank you Tommy for an early Saturday upload. Ghana 🇬🇭 has always been on the forefront of twin related science. Not long ago their doctors performed a ground breaking conjoined twins surgery that garnered international attention to their skills and methods and attention to twin issues. Wild how the igbo in Nigeria fear twins as an omen from god while here they’re revered. Beautifully complex ethnographic stories. I’m here for it!

In Yorubaland, twins are celebrated. Igbo-Ora in Yorubaland is said to be the twin capital of Nigeria, if not the world. This little town holds an annual Twins Festival

Jamaicans are heavily connected to Ghana most of them are Ghanaian and Nigerian by blood primarily And lots of ur ancestors came from Ashanti region and Fante region here in ghana who are both of the akan ethnic group patwa is borrowed from English and twi is the African language that is primarily found in patwa which is akan(ashanti) language many of ur rebels queen nanny, cudjoe, achempong town, maroons were all from Ghana we have similar foods and dishes especially ackee which was brought from Ghana to Jamaica ur flag looks similar to the ashanti flag and more there is a Jamaican community already here in ghana and feel right at home fr and there is lots of reggae music dancehall played in ghana like the love is deep u guys have Ghanaian names like koffee cudjoe lots of things

I'm a GA but living now in Germany and watching your video right now gave me lot of goosebumps Kudus ! But just to make one thing clear this spirits are not demons / evil, this spirits are what guarded our ancestors and they are still guarding and protecting us till this day. This is our culture and tradition!
The only good spirits are angels. Everything else are evil spirits.
Jesus is the LORD. Doesn't require much of gifts or sacrificial Events.
Ignorance is thinking some spirits are protecting you when God by His Grace is protecting you, providing for you and caring for your life, hoping that you will come to the knowledge of the truth and receive eternal life.

And everyone across the world has the right to believe in whatever or whoever they choose to believe in. These are the believes we were born into and we can't change that, we can only choose to be a part of it or not and that's just what it is

Reminds me of my time in Togo in the early 2000s when I was a kid, I was a part of a similar ritual for mami wata where they all move to the sea and multiple people entering a trance like state. Quite the experience for a white kid from Sweden!

Man when you are in Africa you always seem to connect with some guy in the village who is known by everybody,respected by everybody and feared by everybody and can open all the doors if you are with him and on and on!
I think this is the craziest event you've ever filmed Tommy! Looks like madness but it's very interesting to see how into it everyone is. I'm sure it has a big impact on how together they all feel. We all see it and see it as madness, perhaps it is, but I wonder if some madness/crazyness is what makes the world go round. We aren't logic down to our cores as a species and sometimes I wonder if we are trying to make everything fit into a nice, neat, little box today in the West, going against our own natural wants and wishes! I just found this channel and am so overwhelmed with joy. In America, I tend to have this outlook with sadness for others who "have less" in other countries. And I feel sorrow for them. But this channel is making me realize that we are the ones who are missing out. Theyre truly living. Truly loving. What a beautiful thing to witness.
Also, I will add, I know that there are those that suffer in other parts of the world but this made me realize that having less than we do, doesn't mean they're suffering.
