Jay (Mukase Chic) is an amazing woman, so positive and talented, and so much fun to hang out with and eat with! She’s a food personality, a chef, a restauranteur, a blogger - she’s incredible. Check out her Instagram ( / mukasechic ) and TH-cam (th-cam.com/channels/8y8.html....
Anyway, so Jay took me an ultimate street food tour in Accra, here’s all the amazing food we ate:
Red red (bean stew) and plantain - This was the first stop, a small stall that Jay has been eating at for years. They fry plantain, and then serve the plantain along with beans stewed in palm nut oil, and combine it with gari, which are cassava flakes. The result, is a filling and very satisfying combination of sweet and tangy plantains with salty oily beans. What’s key as Jay explained to me is the palm nut oil, which provides so much oil and fragrance. It was delicious, and a perfect way to begin this Ghanaian street food tour in Accra!
    Total price - 4 GHC ($0.90)
Nima Market - Next we caught a taxi to Nima Market, known for its spices. We tried everything we could find, which was quite a lot of snacks here and there. The market was fantastic to walk around, full of action and energy.
    Coconut toffee
    Tigernuts - 1 GHC ($0.20)
    Masa - 1 GHC ($0.20)
    Zowey (adaakwa) - 1 GHC ($0.20)
    Kulikuli - 1 GHC ($0.20)
    Boiled egg - 1 GHC ($0.20)
    Fried cheese - 1 GHC ($0.20)
    Burkina - 3 GHC ($0.70)
    Bofrot - 1 GHC ($0.20)
Peace Chop Bar (Chop Bar - Local Ghanaian restaurant) - Finally, to end this street food tour of Ghana in Accra, we stopped back at the chop bar that we had visited earlier in the morning. Seeing the cooking was sensational, it only made me hungrier for lunch. By the time we arrived back, they had already sold out of a few dishes, but there was still plenty enough to choose from. I tried the banku with goat meat, and it was fantastic.
    Total price - 36 GHC ($7.90)
This was an incredible day of eating street food in Accra. Many thanks to Jay!

Mark really knows how to embed himself and let the culture transform him. Using his hands...that's exactly how to do it. He is so humble. He visits villages, instead of high-end pretentious restaurants. He really gets to the authentic nature of how to eat the foods. Very impressive.

I had for the first time some Ghanaian food in San Diego, I was shocked that it was even here in San Diego and it was really good. I had something with goat in it and my dough was purple. It was spicy, but not unbearably spicy. That lady stirring got slim just from stirring. I've been using red palm oil for about 6 years in my cooking and it's so good. The happiness of the kids is so infectious. Man all the snacks! You really filled your stomach.

Mr Pimple Thank you Mr Pimple but to be honest I’m so chock and impressed because i had Pakistanais Neigbor in the past but they were so prejudice and don’t like Africans people at all, and I told them you are better than Africans people at all.

Thank you Mark for taking us to these beautiful places. I know this video was almost 4 years ago, but I had to comment on it. I may never get to go or experience the wonderful sights, smells, sounds and food of Ghana and the other locations you take us, but I can live vicariously through your videos. Thank you for that! That market looks so.....the variety of spices, foods, the people....what a wonderful experience you must have had! Thanks for taking us along!

I like this video because I can tell you're not fetishising or tokenising the culture in any way but truly respect it and see yourself on the same level as the people. Highlighting the positives to show respect to others home & lifestyle.
Showcasing real local people, asking questions & describing things without any condescending undertones and not constantly comparing everything to the western culture. So refreshing compared to the other tourist videos out there, especially about Ghana. Well done!

Mark I've never met anyone even close to how positive you are. You appreciate the small things in life and some people don't learn to do that until they are much older or sometimes not at all. Ive learnt to enjoy and appreciate the small things as well but that's because of the limitations put on me from my bad health. There is always a positive in every situation for example getting through a shower without collapsing or being well enough to visit a friend even though I'm in pain etc etc I take an interest in evrything and I choose to be positive and happy. Your ability to meet people and immediately have a conversation and share a meal or snacks because you are so open to new people and experiences. Im not sure if you know this saying 'you are down to earth' which basically means you are a good guy who treats everyone with respect. Your guide was so lovely and I could tell she was so proud introducing her native food to you. The people that you have interacted with were so nice and welcoming. It was adorable seeing Micah talk with the local children. Adults could learn a lot from watching children. They don't have the prejudices that a lot of us adults have. I've always felt this but I'm not sure if I've ever put it in the comments section so please forgive me if I ever repeat myself. Everytime I watch your videos I feel a strong need to tell you how the video make me feel which brings out my excitement and I want you to know that if I feel this way then thousands of other people do as well. Mark you are a world game changer and you are bringing so many people together both over youtube but also at dinner parties when the topic turns to you and I for one have always been excited to learn about how different cultures live and you have been a great teacher. I feel that Micah will also bring people together because you and Ying are his best role models. Never underestimate how many lives you change just by being you and making everyone come together over a shared love of food. Food is the one thing that can unite many different people. I hope that you are all well and that you are making sure you get plenty of rest because I know how hard you all work. Sorry that I couldn't be a bit more concise to avoid such a long comment. Xx
