Now the question is, how well does the vehicle mode scale with Speed Champions cars? AFAIK, Speed Champions hasn't had a big hauler truck since the line's debut, so getting something that scales well with the wider current-gen 2-seater cars would be really helpful for display.

did you forget about Voltron ? how do they stack up against each other ?

  • @iangoodchild7312
    @iangoodchild7312 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I guess the audience here is Lego only? Not one person used the phrase 'Tech Specs': these are the 'stats' (that aren't, strictly speaking, stats at all, but scores, ranks or ratings for each characters' attributes) which appeared on every single Generation 1 Transformer box and card from 1984 to 1987.
So, for the further enlightenment of perhaps one person, Tech Specs was short for Technical Specifications. Hasbro also used this G1 toy gimmick as a play on words: in boxed Transformers, you would get a rectangular slab of trans-red plastic (the 'specs') which enabled 9-year-old dorks like myself to 'decode' each Transformers attributes - speed, strength, courage etc. These are the values given here on the Lego plaque.
This is literally a nod to the whole G1 vibe and package: the likelihood of further Lego Transformers is nil. NIL!!! I'm sure people would love a G1 Megatron, but he transforms into a gun. With a sound modifier. Lego ain't doing that EVER. And it would be technically impossible. As for a smaller set like a Bumblebee, or any Transformer with curves, even more so.
There's no chance of more Lego Transformers, but Lego GI Joe could be a thing of wonder - corking minifigures like Duke, Scarlett, Baroness, Cobra Commander, the unlimited Cobra troop builders and the enormous selection of cool vehicles ranging from the tiny Zartan's Swamp Ski to the room-sized USS Flagg...personally, I think that license could compete with Marvel Superheroes, but it seems unlikely, doesn't it?
Anyhoo, back to Lego Prime. I can admire the engineering and transformation here: it's great and ingenious, and all of the weapons and gimmicks are really nice, especially if you grew up with G1 toys (I think the axe and Energon cube might even persuade people to buy this) but, 15 years on, the inevitable compromises of a brick-built Transformer are just the same as they were with Hasbro's straight-to-clearance creaky old BTR sets (non-transforming Transformers and 3.75" scale GI Joe sets). You've got the ridiculous flat head, lack of articulation, cubed vehicle mode and all these (and more) kill this for me. I'm glad to say I'll never be buying this, and honestly, Lego Ideas Voltron looked cooler and more organic and had more 'toy fidelity'.
And I think a whole lot of people who are commenting excitedly that they're going to buy this are going to wish they hadn't. I think the only people who will really love this are the AFOLs that can customise/ MOC better than Lego themselves can, and I'll be genuinely interested to see what cool tweaks the MOC community can make (the trailer would be a GREAT place to start).
For everyone else, is this 'cool' because it's Lego, or because it transforms? Because it kinda looks like G1 Optimus Prime would if someone steamrollered his face? Are you buying it because you plan on transforming it or just displaying in robot mode? If so, does it even need to transform?
And that £150 price point means this is costing more than TakaraTomy's unsurpassed, almost perfect large-scale transforming Transformers figures with diecast parts. In fact, for the price of Lego Prime, you could buy two recent Masterpiece sets - MP-53 (Skids) and MP-54 (Reboost) and still have about £40 change.
Or, you could compare TakaraTomy's MP44 (Convoy) against this. Yeah, Convoy is nearly £400, but it is a beautiful, 100% cartoon accurate G1 robot, truck and truck/trailer set, with the transforming truck, and sooo much good stuff: transforming roller, transforming trailer, axe, jetpack, blast effects, swap heads, swap battle damage panels, samples of Peter Cullen saying all of Prime's most remembered things (and minifigures of Spike, Carley & Sparkplug). If it's childhood Transformers nostalgia you want, go for this.
Obviously, it's all down to personal preference, but I struggle to see how anyone with any kind of love for Transformers could look at Transformers Masterpiece MP44 then look at Lego's effort and say, "Yeah, I want Lego's version because it has Lego bricks."

I still have a sealed Kre-O Optimus Prime. It took that long for it to be an official LEGO version.😅 Love the Kre-O Starscream too(in vehicle mode). Lego Voltron has more kick to it but that's a classic looking Optimus Lego has done here. Crazy it transforms!

It is very impressive, the design and the transforming.
I have the Kre-O one from many years back. It had nice minifigs and a good design, but you had to completely disassemble the entire model to change from truck to robot.
Although it did come with the full trailer, some interior details, figs and 2 motorcycles.
I'm hoping they can make a companion kit for the trailer for the Lego one.

This Hasbro license could also mean we'd get Power Rangers LEGO let that sink in over 30 years of content to choose from and the sets could be the Zords from each season you collect them all and combine them into the Megazord it would be expensive but worth every penny. I can see them doing this as Mega Bloks did the same but more so Separate builds rather than a combination of separate and bundles/sets. For Lego the Arms would be a double pack £25-35 the legs would be two separate sets priced at £30-£50 and the main body would be £70-80 again as you can see expensive each set having multiple Goons and a villains, 3-1 power rangers and potentially a set based on the 6th ranger and a scaled up villain to battle the Megazord.
I could see them doing this for each Series and there's also potential for a CMF series celebrating the different types as rangers have special armour/upgrades that count as separate minifigures and some characters like Tommy habe multiple versions they could even have a micro fighters style subline doing the same thing "MiniZords" or heck bring back those buildable figures from StarWars or like the Iron-Man figure.

The stats on the info plate are a reference to the original toy, which came with a stat card that you could cut out of the back of the box. I don't think its meant to be a tease for future Transformers sets. It'd be cool if it was, though.

Very impressive, especially the fact that it transforms, but I doubt it's worth making an entire series of these for any of the companies, because it won't replace Lego's ccbs constraction and it won't replace Hasbro's Masterpiece Tf line, so it's just for the audience who wants both at once with some compromises, which I doubt is big enough.

Hope this Partnership forms an IP for LEGO to annually release Transforms builds From multiple factions would be siiiiiiick.

Not a transformers fan to begin with but I feel this is certainly a step in the right direction. I hope in the future they release some gunpla type mech/s since the lego moc community has so many amazing designs! A couple of things that bugs me about this design are the eyes. The spacing makes the face look a bit goofy. The body proportions feel a bit off giving Optimus a short/stocky vibe. More like a "dad bod" if you will. Overall though its a pretty solid design. Great review, keep them coming. 👍

I wonder if they’ll do a mini scaled Lego Unicron?? Or a diorama of Unicron as a planet or robot battling against the Autobots? I built a Lego micro G1 Megatron before that transforms into a robot, tank, and gun so I know it’s possible to build micro Transformers.

I think it’s more the stiff leg look I have an issue with. Not having it bendable just limits the pose aesthetic. However I’m sure it’s an engineering issue.
