I think this is great way for adults to play with their kids. The kid can play through the course until they get to the mighty bowser being controlled by the parent. The concept is simple enough but really effective
It looks like a great set. The functions make me consider what other 'puppet' sets they could release. Maybe a Muppet or Pinocchio set? I think the integration with the Super Mario courses is something they're obligated to do, even with the adult themed sets. It's sad that they didn't send you the set, so hopefully my continued subscription will help recoup the costs of the build. Thanks for going out of your way to buy and review it for us.

This would be a perfect “dad” set, great display piece for the office, and can play with the kids, the two phase thing can make for an excellent cinematic thing
I keep going back and fourth on this set, I want it, but the cost makes me recoil. Looks like a fun build and falls in line with several of my interest (humanoid builds with joints, video games, display pieces). The Mario sets in general have been "weak" as a display, but this makes me really want to setup a Mario level diorama.
@@criticalboot2567 mixed. Had some good parts that I could use elsewhere, but the cost for those particular parts wasn't worth it, and the sets per bag themselves did nothing for me as an AFOL. We bought like 2 or 3 of them and left it at that. I liked the idea, final execution just wasn't for me.
What is your usual Lego budget? Even if you can't afford it now, start saving a bit each paycheck, and get it later. It'll feel a whole lot better than getting it now, then needing to eat ramen for the next month.
@@jardex2275 I don't have a set budget, just soul crushing guilt when I've spent too much - which will quickly happen with this set HAHA. (In all seriousness I compare the cost to other forms of entertainment, this is practically a Nintendo Switch, for something that will just be a display piece, so its just hard to swallow that cost without apprehension)
The added super mario elements are great for parents who like lego, since now they can have a great looking set made for adults that also works as a toy that they can use to play with their kids with. All around reqlly cool set that i'll definitely be picking up!

For someone who hasn't touched a lego set in more than 5 yrs i gotta say that this one was extremely easy and fun to build. Apparently he has more than 8k pieces but it felt like he had only 10. Functions really well (not for playing with kids ofc, i see it more like a display figure)
The mighty bowser is my favourite Lego set and it gives me so much nostalgia. The finished product is so refined, close to original, sturdy (and heavy!), very playable, and looks absolutely stunning when displayed. I love it so much! The set costed USD185 for me and I think it’s reasonable given the high quality.
Loved it from first reveal. Spectacular build/display model, and packed with fun play features. Price unfortunately a bit steep as this 350+ here in Canada. Still Lego did an amazing job.
I have no connection to Super Mario! But I sure like this set. Price wise I think it’s so so, but with a decent GWP and double VIP I think this is a buy!
These 18+ LEGO sets are phenomenal, I was wowed the entire time putting together bowser. The Nintendo line is insanely impressive, I’m ready for the entire console line to come out too!
Picked up a complete set, built just once and displayed in a case, for just £100. Delighted with it. So expressive, so cleverly designed and the sheer weight of it is a real surprise. I love it!
@@TiagoCatarino thanks. It was a bonanza find really, with Mighty Bowser, Galaxy Explorer, GWP Delivery Truck and an Orange evo spaceman, all for £150. Huge nostalgia value and worth at least £275 in today's UK market.
Solid review, and I totally agree that the base could have been left out of the set. I still have Bowser assembled and displayed, but I broke the base down for parts and shelf space just a month or so after building the set.
Good looking build. Price tag going to keep most away tho. Like the Atari build, a regular toy would provide more far play value. REALLY niche market for this set given the cost.
Just got it for roughly 170 euros here in Sweden and I couldent be happier! That's a fantastic value by the amount of bricks it has! Now I just have to wait all week untill it arrives :(
@@Hether6971 Well In Swedish krona its about 2900 sek on the lego website. In normal toy and like baby stores etc you can always find lego for much cheaper then on the lego website! Its around 2200-2300 sek In most toy stores and one particular store hade a holiday sale with 25% discount on all toys. So its a crazy good deal compared to the original price!
I brought my Lego dollars off for £200 from smyths Lego in the U.K. I really love this I think it’s worth it with all the play features and I really enjoyed it 9 out of 10 for me 👍
My 20th birthday is coming up really soon, and my grandma definetly not suspiciously at all asked me "If you could have ANY LEGO set you want, price is no object, which one would you get?" Now, there are of course the obvious answers, the Millennium Falcon, the UCS Landspeeder, the Death Star, maybe even the Colosseum, but my choice was Bowser. I'm a huge Nintendo fan, and between this, the NES, and the ? Block, this has more impact for me. I love collecting figures/statues of characters, and while the ? Block is cool, I don't have much if any nostalgia for Super Mario 64, and while I think the NES is great, it's not my favorite Nintendo console out there. Bowser however is a cool statue, an awesome and fun to build looking set, and a rather unique piece of Nintendo merch all things considered. We'll have to wait until Halloween to see what happens, but let's hope that the King of the Koopas decides to pay me a visit. (though, I'll really be happy with any LEGO set I get, regardless of price or size)
When they revealed NES and ? Block, i instantly know i must have it. When i first saw the reveal of bowser, i was thinking meh n why of all do i meed a giant bowser for? N after back n forth seeing videos n reviews n having a more detail view of it, gosh it’s like “i never knew i would want a giant size bowser”. Got it the second day it’s released cant wait to build it. How the structure is designed around the character organic feature just blows my mind.
I think the price per piece isn't bad, but if it were only $200-230 I would be more apt to get it. I have the ? Block and NES sets and I think this would make a great addition to that, but at almost $300 after taxes it's hard. Either way it looks super awesome.
I love the end-result, but I had to suffer a lot of frustration due to pieces missing to get there. I had to improvise on the spot too often. If it wasn’t for the spare parts of my LEGO Optimus Prime, I’d be screwed. I even had to use parts from Prime’s accessoires. I never display him with them, but I shouldn’t have had to do that in the first place.
It’s a really cool build, but sadly just not a character or theme I’m interested in. The shell looks amazing, makes me think this could be MOCd into a teenage mutant ninja turtles statue! That would be cool! 🤔🤷
Such a cool set, one of the most interesting sets of this year. It looks amazing and the functions are brilliant. But it is very big, not easy to display. For now I built a small bowser, hopefully I’ll get the big one too 😅

Great review, but as usual don’t know what your problem is with technic, it’s usually my favorite part of bigger sets like this!
Part of the process of building Lego sets is one day taking them apart to use in custom builds, and Technic is really a pain to take apart.

I don't know, I feel the Atari to be way more niche that this one. Or maybe I'm the only one who finds these D2C Super Mario sets highly interesting!

Question... the second platform Mario jumps on at 5:53 what set is that from? I have Peach starter course and I don't remember mine being a spring.
Not going to lie the set is really detailed. I've built this over the weekend and it's a really bulky set with a ton of details
I really want it it's so cool, but like all Legos now, the price is mighty and it's harder to justify
So glad I got this on Amazon, I suggest getting it there, its worth signing up for their payment plan
