THIS! This is one of the most awesome sets, that lego released in the last 3 years! I wasn't expecting that I will hate the DeLorean but love this Optimus Prime! :) What I like most about it, is that it's G1 Optimus Prime, not the later one. I think it fits very well with Lego's audience. Maybe it is so good, because Hasbro is part of it xD Since Lego's main audience for the bigger sets is around 30-40 Years old, this set combines two nostalgic things: Lego and old comics. And that's the reason why I don't understand why we get modern Bugattis, Porsches, Lambo's and Ferraris in the 1:8 scale field. I mean... the audience would love a Countach, an F40, etc. heck, even I would buy them- despite I don't like the 1:8 scale technic cars. :) As always: An awesome review!! (P.S.: you could compare it to my G1 Optimus Prime in Arocs Scale xD... just joking ;))
Back in the early '80s in my Kindergarten days, I used to make this crazy deals: this one time, I traded three knockoff Hot Wheels for a genuine TAKARA TOMY Optimus Prime G1 with Trailer. Which I still have to this day. The mother of the other kid was really pissed but... a deal is a deal. EDIT: We called it "Commander" here by the way.

A very cool set indeed, I used to watch some milder versions of Transformers when I was young (you know how in the normal Transformers, there’s some scenes that might be too much for kids, might give them some nightmares?), but I can still appreciate this set! It’s really cool how the set not only captures Optimus very well, but Optimus also transforms! When I was younger, I dreamed about transforming Lego sets, now it’s a reality! I hope Lego makes some (or all, if feasible!) of the other Transformers too! Also, Balaz, your name is spelled B-a-l-a-z, with an accent on the second “a”? And you’re also Hungarian, right? I never really got all these details in concrete form, just little hints here and there. 🤣😀
I'm still building mine my instruction Manuel came in a cardboard sleeve which is different to your polythene. I found the instructions hard to follow building the dark blue leg sections. Other than that it's a great build 👌.
Could you compare it with the Kreo set? I had that set, and as far as I remember, it looked and built great! Especially, at a fraction of the price! Granted, it didn't actually transform like this Lego set.
Great job covering the reference material. Also for pointing out most of the newer parts. Though looking forward to the second part the less said about the KreO release the better, though to be fair the truck mode is for the most part pretty solid/displayable for a movie variation. And as long time collector of Transformers the third one you had peaking out is subjectively probably one of the worst variations of Optimus ever released. Won't spoil for anyone which it is, but it had me wanting to throw it at a wall in both modes.
The set looks amazing, but the box for mine I received had two bag # 1’s and no bag # 2… heartbroken I need to wait for the missing items before I can build it.
Love the videos... keep making them for us! Quick question... Why do some sets come with multiple bags numbered the same? For instance two number 1 bags.... why not just continue the numbering seq? I ask for my son because he always gets so frustrated when Lego does this. Thank you in advance
I assume it depends on the number of phases and the parts required in each of them, and also the age rating. There are sets that have more building phases and only single bags for each, but some might have more parts used in one phase so those come in multiple bags.

@@kapilkirpekar3433 it's a really nice book, but it sold out super quickly so I don't think it is worth the premium price on eBay. You might want to wait and see if LEGO responds to the demand with another release, but it might not happen.
I can only guess it might not be as appealing compared to the actual Optimus and transformer toys I grew up with in the 80s. I'm a massive Lego fan and original transformers but this just doesn't excite me for the money for some reason. Where as the Delorean I finally managed to get one the other day quick enough before they had gone again and loved soon as I seen it. I could be completely off, it's just what my thoughts were on it. Rather have the original transformers
Is there a reason for two-parter reviews? Not that I care (I'll watch both)... but wouldn't it decrease views as some people only want the first part of the review?
It's mostly the time it takes to make the video and also the amount of content I'm trying to make about a specific set. I don't think squeezing everything in a 20+ minute video would be a good solution as people wouldn't realize all the different types of things in it. On the other hand I was really-really waiting for the set's release, since I didn't get the chance to do an early review so wanted to share my first impressions as soon as possible :) Honestly I don't really juggle with the view counts here, just trying to share the excitement!

Gotta say, I'm not a fan of the two-part split reviews. You're the only channel I know who includes details about the building process in their review, and that's also why I subscribed to you. When you split your reviews into a "building" video and a "functions/opinions" one, I am (and potentially others are) tempted to only watch the first video and then watch someone else's review for a look on the functions and their opinion.
I understand this point, thanks for sharing. This set is however not brand new, early reviews were already published weeks ago, so if you wanted to watch one you probably already did that. I bought this yesterday, and I had the choice of publishing the first part today, or to make a single big video and only post it sometimes next week. I chose to split it in two because of this, and also because the building review part is quite different from the feature comparison part with other Transformers toys.
Obviously this is all a clever plan to get some money from 30-40 year olds with disposable income who want to relive their childhoods. But screw that, I’m buying one! You know what? My daughter is six and we watched G1 Transformers together. She wants a Lego Optimus Prime too :)

They don't fall apart, can be separated if preferred by removing the 1x3 plate

So how long was the build? It took me about 12 hours with breaks to rest my arthritic fingers.
As I am building, filming and taking notes I usually don't measure it, but I think it was done in one evening, surprisingly quick build.
