Love all these ideas. I always put labels in my clothes and love a beautiful lining. It really does elevate a garment to the next level. Beautiful examples too!
I don’t sew like I used to, but details are definitely what makes a garment look professional. I termed it as embellishing! And sometimes spent almost as much on embellisments as fabric!
Absolutely, paying attention to the details and embellishments can really take a garment to the next level and give it a professional finish. It's fascinating how embellishments can transform the overall look and feel of a piece, sometimes even rivaling the cost of the fabric itself. Thanks for sharing your experience and insight!💜💜💜
Great video. I use old men's silk ties for bias tape. Just cut them apart, and make some tape. I learned this trick from Tomkat stitchery. The ties are already bias cut.
What a fantastic idea! The fact that the ties are already bias cut makes them perfect for this purpose. Thanks for sharing this clever tip! it's always inspiring to discover creative ways to upcycle materials in sewing projects 💜💜
Great tips Christine. I too have picked up a lot of these finishes through my career in luxury retail. They really elevate pieces. Another tip that I learnt from Chanel, and is great for The Great Jones jacket, is to stitch a lightweight slim metal chain along the turned up hem edge inside the jacket. It gently weights the jacket helping it sit better. She used it on her famous boucle ones.
Thanks for sharing your expertise! Adding a slim metal chain along the turned-up hem edge inside the jacket sounds like a brilliant technique!! It's fascinating to learn about the techniques used in luxury retail, particularly from iconic brands like Chanel. Thanks for enriching the conversation with your valuable insight!💜💜💜
I actually learned about finishing the inside of a jacket in grade 10 homeec class. My teacher was a stickler for proper finishing on the inside of a garment. For labels, any suggestion where to sew them other than the back neckline. I have sensitive skin, and cannot stand at label rubbing against my skin. Thank you for sharing your knowledge from working in the fashion world.
It's wonderful to hear that you learned about proper garment finishing at such a young age, and it's a testament to the importance of those foundational skills. As for labels, you can try sewing them along the side seam or the hem of the garment, where they're less likely to come into contact with your skin and cause irritation. Another option is to stitch them onto a seam allowance inside the garment, where they're still visible but won't rub against your skin. I hope these tips can help you 💜💜
I saw you posted a video and hit the play button immediately. I love love love your channel! Exposed zips…yes please all day long. And, bright bias tape too. However, for some reason, I am bias tape challenged. I have watched many different techniques and I still mess it up. It was fun learning a bit more about your fashion industry experience.
Thank you so much for your kind words and enthusiasm! I'm thrilled to hear that you enjoy the content on my channel. Exposed zips and bright bias tape can definitely add a pop of personality to any garment. Don't worry if you're feeling challenged by bias tape; it can be a bit tricky at first, but with practice, you'll master it! Keep experimenting with different techniques, and don't hesitate to reach out for help or advice if needed. Thanks for your support and for being part of the community!
Thank you! It was one I picked up on sale at Julian Lopez in Valencia Spain 😑 I recently went back to see if I could get a bit more for a dress but it's sold out. It's a tweed 💚

Have you created a pattern for the top you are wearing? I didn't see it in your pattern shop. Thanks❤
