      This is very true. Last week my cardiologist pressured me to get on statins…”for my heart health”. I gave him a long list of dietary and lifestyle changes that I have made. Told him than under no circumstances will I be taking the medication. He was discouraging towards my changes and pushed the pills. To actually be healthy? Do we need get lectured by our doctors and then do our own research? What are we paying them for?

      @@ratfunkblue My total cholesterol is 210. That's 10 points above optimal according to them but as we know it's really not a marker of health. But my cardiologist said the same thing then I needed to go on statins. And so I asked my family practice doctor to comment and he said that my ratios are perfect and there's absolutely no reason to go on statins.
      This is a marketing ploy and it drives me crazy. There is no correlation between taking a statin and having a lower risk for a cardiac event. This same cardiologist give me a very hard time about a CAC test. Which also came back fine.

    The point on thanking the animals for their sacrifice is an important point. I remember watching a show on NatGeo of how some hunter-gatherer tribe hunted down an animal by tracking its steps etc. I think the show was actually about running and why humans are great runners. Anyways, after the animal collapsed from exhaustion, the hunter kneeled down before the animal, saying a prayer for it and thanking it for the fight and its sacrifice before killing it. I was struck by the level of respect for the animal.

      @@TheJohn_Highway Lol carnivore rhetoric.
      The body asks for plants in numerous ways, you only need to look at these fad dieting carnivores to see that.
      Whilst they complain of side effects such as severe muscle cramping from the lack of magnesium and potassium rich plant-foods that they've removed from the diet.
      Or severe constipation from the lack of dietary fiber for intestinal support.
      Or the carnivores complaining of scurvy symptoms such as bleeding gums from the lack of dietary vitamin C.
      "Evidence from epidemiological studies and clinical research suggests that high-fibre diets can significantly reduce the incidence of CRC, whilst the consumption of high-fat diets, high-protein diets, red meat, and processed meat is high-risk factors for tumorigenesis"
      "Fibre is a regulator of intestinal microflora and metabolism and is thus a key dietary component for maintaining intestinal health. Intestinal microbes are closely linked to CRC, with the growth of certain microbiota (such as Fusobacterium nucleatum, Escherichia coli, or Bacteroides fragilis) favouring carcinogenesis, whilst the dominant microbiota population of the intestine, such as Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, Actinobacteria, and Proteobacteria, have multiple mechanisms of antitumour activity."
      "Various dietary components have direct effects on the types of intestinal microflora: in the Western diet mode (high-fat, high-protein, and red meat), the proportion of conditional pathogens in the intestinal flora increases, the proportion of commensal bacteria decreases, and the occurrence of colorectal cancer is promoted."
      "Conversely, a high-fibre diet can increase the abundance of Firmicutes and reduce the abundance of Bacteroides and consequently increase the concentration of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in the intestine, inhibiting the development of CRC."

    I went carnivore end of December 2021 to help figure out which foods were contributing the most to my inflammation. End of January no more arthritis in my left hand and overall my body felt much better. I did not stop coffee and alcohol, too difficult for me. I have introduced single foods back since I'm using this as an elimination diet. It's been working well so far. I've 55 and have been a very active athlete until about 51 when my knee just couldn't take it, a knee replacement candidate. Cardio has been almost non-existent. 6 weeks in I went from 210lbs to 185lbs as a byproduct of this diet. My blood labs after 3 months were a vast improvement and my doctor didn't want to discuss it, just said keep doing what you're doing. Most important to me were the cholesterol (moderate improvement) and testosterone (almost doubled!). Thanks, Dr. Baker and other TH-camrs, you have helped me with my journey to better health and improved mental clarity. Now I'm focusing on KneesOverToes exercises and already seeing improvements in my knees after a month. People need to be open-minded about their health. Try different natural things to see what works best for them.

I don’t like to feel like I have to skimp on it plus it tends to be more cost efficient when purchased in bulk. So collagen peptide is also hydrolyzed collagen. Eating carnivores is ridiculous except for emergencies. Converting edible meat to lesser amounts of edible meat is the most wasteful food production/ energy conversion ratio, apart from fish where the conversion ratio is much higher, & there are also sustainability issues with killing animals from the top of the food chain, that are typically less numerous. Societies that eat land dwelling predators & insects are at subsistance level & doing so opportunistically when other animal derived foods are not immediately to hand, or are later stage societies that have experienced extended famine from natural, mismanagement or war & social upheaval causes, & generally return to predominantly eating ruminants & some omnivores. I've no idea what kind shark was referred to above, but it is commonly eaten in Australia & is a very subtle & delicate flavour.
      Anyone keeping an apex predator as a pet, & also then killing it to 'prove something', is a rare & special kind of idiot.

    Everyone needs to try this out on their own. I've done the vegan diet, really was consistent with it. There are some good things about it...except the constant craving for meat, that made the diet unsustainable. I've found I can't go pure carnivore either, that doesn't make me feel too good on the energy side. When I mix some white rice with ground beef...magic. Used to eat a lot of vegetables and when I stopped there was absolutely no difference in how I felt. Hardly eat any fruit anymore, again, don't notice the difference, like them every now and again. The people against meat consumption are just really nutty.

    • @johns7530
      @johns7530 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      People against meat consumption, or vegetable consumption, are equally nutty. There is a lot of sound science behind the ketogenic diet, but I question eating only meat. People need fiber, vitamin C, and other things. Meat is fine, but there is no reason to exclude vegetables.

      Ohh with a little bit of fruit of course, you're allowed fruit now on carnivore because Salandino has given the blessing
      Fruit is "ancestral" again so you are fine,

    Hi Shawn... always curious about Mr. grylls stance on being vegetarian after reading a great book he wrote. Although he munches down on anything with a heartbeat when in the field he claimed to be a veggie by choice in his life outside of his work. On commenting on the physique of one of his comrades in the 'service' he lamented the fact that try as he might he never himself managed to attain the muscular physique that he himself wished for, well, great display of humility on his part eh? Well done I say. Myself after spending a great deal of my adult life vegetarian with a skinny musculature, very athletic and active, actually vegan on and off too, certain crippling health issues ended up with me developing crippling excema and allergies to almost everything, dairy, grains, curries, alchohol ( although I think now that my allergy to booze done me a lot of good, :) I opted ( in no small part due to listening very carefully to what you yourself had to impart on the subject, ) for a highly meat based diet, which has turned things around for me completely, Im now a lean, mean 55 year old healthy and active excema free and vigorous little soldier,( also found that adopting the 'Silva Method helps incredibly, worth a look into also buddy..) Big hug sir and well done to you n 'the Bear' great work, you personally helped me a great deal with your lack of nonesense and heaps of great informative knowledge, Salutations!

    An animal-based diet is the most nutritionally dense diet. A 2,000-calorie animal-based diet likely has the protein and nutrient density of a 5,000-calorie plant-based diet. One of these diets won't make you excessively fat.

    • @evidence-basedhealthuk5271
      @evidence-basedhealthuk5271 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Animal based" being the key word there, so like most of the "carnivores" still consuming some degree of plant-foods hence omnivores.
      Try a strict carnivore fad diet and 2000 calories of food doesn't even provide balanced nutrition. Excessively low in certain nutrients, whilst being excessively imbalanced in others.
      Can you provide a sample 2000-2500 carnivore extreme all meat/animal food fad diet that contains absolutely no healthy plant-foods.
      I would love to run a sample days worth of food through a nutrition calculator to see what kind of nutrition you carnivores claim to be getting.
      Eating a few rib-eye steaks and some eggs and liver ontop doesn't even equate to a nutritionally complete diet. Far from optimal for health, preventing disease, sports performance, reducing mortality or whatever your goal is.

    I get the impression the claimed benefits of fibre tend to only be relevant when eating a high carbohydrate diet, given that historically most sugar or starch was eaten alongside fibre (for example, it reduces the insulin peaks versus refined carbs), fibre can help offset the obesity from high carb diets. Presumably meat would have been eaten without fibre, and helped us survive ice ages just fine

However I thought more is better, so I ate more meat and more meat, less fruit and veggies en less grains. But that also didn't work in the long run. I follow Baker, Saladino, CarnivoreAurelius and thought that was the truth. It wasn't for me. I still eat meat and fish but in moderation. My body works best on plant based 80% and meat 20% give or take. Mediterranean style diet feels the best for me. At this point in time. Maybe I change my mind again later. But point of it al is, we need to listen to our body. My body craving meat at one time and less meat another time. Nothing is set in stone. I was a little dogmatic when I was vegan, but also dogmatic when I was animal based. The truth is often in the middel. Keep an open mind and it'll be alright.
