    DieHard batteries are all the same with different stickers. They gold ones are more then the silver because the warranty is better. I once had to relabel all the silver batteries with gold stickers at a store that starts with an S e a #rs. Just a friendly FYI.

    The one with a cool down is to save your starter. Theoretically you could just unplug replug from the wall to bypass cool down. Typically you get one attempt at cranking between cool down. So multiple push start attempts just needlessly triggers the cool down.
    Also possible the cool down function is a result of super capacitors incorporated in the design/function. If this is the case the cool down is likely them charging.

      100% agree. I have a computer one. Most of the time I have to hook up a dead battery in parallel to a car to get it to charge a little before the computerized charger will work. Otherwise it just calls is bad and quits. Who cares if we blow up a few batteries. This safety crap is annoying.

    Dad bought a badass one from Snap-On. It was expensive as everything from them is, but wow, can it put a charge on a big battery system fast. When you’re trying to turn over a big diesel motor, it’s nice when you don’t have to wait long for the voltage to come up.

    Well young fellow, you proved what old school people like myself I've already figured out years ago. Old school equipment without all the fancy digital garbage in it, usually stands head and Tails above whistles and bells features that tend to fail for whatever reason s.
    At least you showed everybody including myself that new digital stuff has more to it than we realize and may fail us at times. You might want to get that battery tested as I bet it's pretty darn shot.
    Did the owner's manual that came with the die-hard system have any information about protection devices in it to prevent overcharging and shorted battery cell charging? I bet it does have that feature and hence of failure compared to the old school stuff. Good luck my friend and wait till you get older cuz you'll be a lot wiser to along with many ups and downs in life that tend to take the wind out of our sails at times.

  • @ironmon2003

    Those posts under the hood are only to jump other cars. Its a new safety feature which is dumb imo. but if you needed to be jumped you have to go directly to the battery terminals

    • @JeeperJimbo
      @JeeperJimbo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But do you know why ? For those that don't The Computer is isolated from those jump points for safty reasons .... Going direct to the battery tricks the computer voltage sensor allowing car to start normal ... Biggest nightmare working at AAA customer's living out of there trunk .... LoL nothing worse that responding to a jump start call and battery in trunk is buried under 2 feet of crap lol ....

    First, It was 8 degrees with a stone dead battery... the battery is frozen and is likely junk. Second, how many amps were the boost features on each charger? Third, the smart battery charger absolutely will do a better job at charging the battery. That old school charger will just boil batteries if you leave it on hold and if you charge a battery at the high rate for the max amount of minutes it will likely boil the battery also. The smart charger will actually charge the battery to completely full charge, then shut off so it don't cook the battery.

  • @JeeperJimbo
    @JeeperJimbo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    For those that don't know the "new electronic" style chargers if you read the "instructions" tells you will not work on total dead batteries you have to put a "charge" on them ... Any car or truck before 1998 needs atleast 10 volts in the battery for those style chargers to work ... Now the old school charger like he bought on Amazon will apply 14.5volts for a hard cold start tricking the computer that the battery is fine triggering the start feature ! The only reason the new electronic style chargers exist is because of alot of yuppie home owners buying the old school chargers and causing major hazards ! Think of it like the whole reason its next to impossible to buy a old school gas can everything has a safty on it ... Why ?? Yuppies thats why !!

    Well here is my 2 cents worth. Schumacher SC1364 , I have something similar bought 3 years ago at the time 85$. I use well known Mid deep cycle AGM batteries in my auto's. My 2007 Ford Focus ate the factory battery for lunch in about 3 months after birth. Ate the second battery in a year and then went to AGM mid-cycle batteries. The Focus still likes to mess with batteries but this battery has lasted till today. The battery will drop below the 10Volts required to try and charge from time to time as I don't use the auto very often. I don't find a donor battery but rather did purchase a 12V 12amp power supply with power/Cig lighter plug, purchased a simple cig to cig extension cord,safety says if things are going to blow you will not be part of it. Leave this method on for 30 minutes and then attach / check the normal charger for function. Don't know about April fools as stated below but better to get a Donar 12Volt power supply then to deal with battery to battery. My take.

    I don''t want micro-electronics controlling the charging circuit, give me a good old rheostat and a large mass of copper inside for a heavy duty charging cycle.
    You get what you pay for in battery chargers. The heavier the copper winding, the higher the duty cycle and the longer the life of the charger. At least you didn't purchase one of the Schumacher chargers sold by most auto parts stores. Total POS.
