About stone colour: You can change it according to the setting (obviously) but its specifics are pretty neat. For instance: A red-brown rock will contain iron and be weathered, so this is mostly optimal for a mainland diorama. A green rock will be more natural in forests or in a watery setting where vegetation can cling to the surface. These rocks will usually be more rounded. A faded yellow/green-ish rock is actually more common on alpine places, where there is a lot of lichen life due to retreating glaciers. The longer ago the glacier has left, the larger (and thus more prominent) the colour. A white-ish rock can be found mainly in a European setting or a Chinese/Japanese setting due to the calcite rock being more prominent there. Blue-greyish rocks are an AWESOME base for poorer rocks (with less metals in them) and is more common on mountains. They are usually pretty sharp and can get HUGE. A more bright reddish rock can be found in some deserts or in specific settings that are more common in North- and South-Amerika. Black/ dark grey are more common in volcanic areas, but are also mostly with cavities or hollows is them. Also take a look at the flow-like texture of obsidian, might be nice to play off of that. If you're tired of all the "traditional" spike-like mountains, I suggest you search for flatiron mountains. They are a mountain type that is basically the crust being pushed up (like all mountains), BUT they broke off at some point and what you are left with is a flat surface at about 60° and an AWESOME break like a giant took the ground and just broke it with its bare hands. Another good idea is the Siberian trap-mountains. They were created by a series of volcanic eruptions and are a rounded step-like form. It's pretty prominent in the scene and easy to play off of. Another cool way for rocks to be created is making a basalt-field. These hexagonal stone pillars are the natural form after lava has been cooling. The hexagonal structure arises due to the crystal structure of silicium dioxide, that is a large part of silicate rocks. These will also be more white-ish. In any case, this has been your internet-idiot providing you with useless knowledge. Have fun making stuff and good luck with your projects!
This isn't useless at all! Thank you for sharing this, i've learned many new things today :) And i'm sure it will come in handy with upcoming artwork and craft projects.
Impressive knowledge, thanks for sharing! I cannot help but think of this video here, though: th-cam.com/video/NuyZ-ExYkpQ/w-d-xo.html No offense, it's just that it always comes to my mind when listening to a geologist :D I wish you all the best!
Amazing as always! It did hurt a little seeing the beautiful landscape get covered in snow (just like in real life) but seeing the hints of green under the snow made it totally worth it :D
oh my GOD. you have no idea how validating it to hear you say 'painting rocks isn't exactly easy' because jfc i didn't know what i was doing, i just knew that when i was working on a commissioned painting a few months back the single biggest thing that kept holding me back in a complex scene with water, and foliage and trees and animals was the FECKIN ROCKS!!
I once did a painting based on a photograph of the Kimberley at sunset. The colours! Reds and purples and greys and all sorts. Took me ages to get it somewhat decent looking
I decided to paint my wall, making a large landscape and I had so many rocks. Needless to say my brain hurt at the end of it. Rocks are so complex to paint but LOOK SO SIMPLE.
Funny/cute story: When you first talked about the cutting mat, I told my boyfriend that it's a pitty I already have one, because mine is an unattractive green color and yours is so pretty. A few weeks later my boyfriend saw your tavern PC video (without me mentioning it) and realized, that the mug I have is actual merch from you. So guess what: For Christmas I got a little envelope with two "gift cards" for your cutting mat and the sketchbook. He knew it wouldn't arrive in time, so he drew the gift cards to still be able to gift me something. Last week the cutting mat arrived and I absolutely love it. I can't wait until the sketchbook is here too. 😍
Only 5 minutes into the video but just wanted to quickly say how much I appreciate Martina’s instructions and explanations about her process. I’ve been itching to make a diorama since I started watching y’all last year and the urge has increased tenfold
The diorama looked great throughout the whole process. I can appreciate seeing it grow and even in changing seasons. This project is like a reminder that it's the journey we seek not so much the destination. It is good that you are a youtube creator and make these videos of your projects because capturing the journey transformations is art in itself.
it does look a lot different after you added the snow but it looks SUPER realistic. for your first time doing snow effects like this i think you did an amazing job. the trick with the ice on the river was so clever as well!! hope you had wonderful holidays, ive missed seeing you guys!
The fire, and especially, the ice, look so real! As someone who's spent nearly every one of my 61 winters in Minnesota, I know a bit about ice; almost as much -- maybe -- as someone from Norway :) So well done, as usual!
I actually prefer it with snow, I think it makes the figures pop against the low contrast background. I think the original rock-scape had so much color and texture contrast that the minis would have been swallowed up a bit in it. And I think the water effect came out amazing!
This looks so realistic... Like straight out of some fantasy landscape... It amazes me everytime i see the process of how something like this is created... You guys make amazing stuff... Thank you for the vid

My mat has shipped. Still waiting on the sketchbook, and I’m super excited!
@@nairbvel just like a normal snowglobe, just bigger and heavier. Put it some liquid of the desired color and viscosity and add as much snow as you want. Make sure everything other than the snow is held in place very securely.
Yet another beautiful diorama! ✨ I really appreciate that did a little recap in the end and talked about what you learned from it as a maker/artist as well as what you may have done differently despite how nice it still turned out. Some artists here on TH-cam hide this part of creating things. As a person who sadly doesn’t own a 3D-printer, I also really appreciated that Hansi explained the processes shown in the montage, just like you, Martina, explained some foam-related steps you showed us. Thank you two for this amazing video! 💕
That turned out really great, I love how you try new things (and make them look easy). After so much time and effort put into a piece, it can be intimidating to make that next step. You do that and it pays off. Thank you for the inspiration. Can I ask, what do you do with all your finished projects? Do you gift them to your family and friends? Are they on display in your house? There must be so many things already.. Thank you!
Just got my cutting mat in last week and love it so much! Really cool to see you using yours in this video and thinking "hey, I have the same one!!" Just beautiful and super functional. And what an amazing project, you guys are just constantly pushing yourselves into better and better projects, always enjoy them
3D printing suggestion: based on how your model failed around 4:57, I would suggest coating the FEP sheet with PTFE Dry Lubricant to reduce the peel force. You may also be over-exposing the resin, which will cause excessive FEP bonding -- this is usually exacerbated with large cross sections. Perform a detailed calibration print to fine-tune your exposure settings. Hope this helps!
Yay! The year begins! Hanz, there are several adjustments you can make to help your prints fail less, but most are model-specific so you will want to jump on a forum for your specific printers. For mine the fix was really unintuitive by raising the lift speed on my printer. I thought for sure it would make things worse instead of better, but I went from ~50-60% failures to rarely ever having a failure. Dialing in my exposure settings (per resin used) also helped a lot. Every resin is a little bit different, and I eventually settled on using 2 parts of a white somewhat flexible (Siyra tech ABS-like Fast White) resin with 1 part elegoo grey (because I bought a bunch when I started... not good for minis as it is too brittle, so I won't be buying more). I'm going to try adding some Tenacious to the mix this year and see if it helps make them more bendy and less liable to break when playing table-top with the kiddos... it is stupidly expensive, but my understanding is that adding just a little can help a lot, so worth trying. Good luck! Failed prints are no fun!
I use the Elegoo standard grey (and beige) all the time for mini's. What I do for curing, though, is I cure whe models submerged in a glass container filled with regular water. For normal 28-32mm figures, I generally go with a 30 second cure (60-120 seconds for larger models) and though they are mostly still delicate, they are quite a bit more durable. Usually, if a model is too brittle, chances are pretty high they have been (way) over-cured. Curing in water is good for this, as exposure to oxygen actually hinders the curing process and dunking models in water fixes that, easily and effectively.
A suggestion! In your future projects involving electricity. Solder all electricity in parallel to a 2,1mm DC-contact. Then rather than a Switch, you can solder a battery pack to a male 2,1mm DC-contact. That way, you can physically remove the power source. And in the future, if you wish. You can use an old AC/DC transformer with similar contacts to power it from a wall socket. (With the right voltage) Just think it will be less invasive and less amount of battery packs used left and right. Not to mention, one battery pack holder can be reused for different projects or switched around.
I always feel like I need to be totally prepared and record everything in one take. And yes that means I haven't been able to record anything. Thanks for giving me a sign that I don't need to do it all at once. I can record it in different takes at different times. Maybe now I can get the nerve to finally do this. Great to see the both of you doing different things on this one. Love the miniatures you made btw. Looked awesome painted. Oh and I love the terrain. Realistic looking. So many cool effects. I kind of agree with you on liking it before you added the snow. Still looks cool though. Especially like the fire under the pot. Looks hot. Thanks again for another exciting video...
Beautiful, as always, Martina!! Also, Hans, I specialize in Anycubic printers and you're doing a great job! If I can give one piece of advice that will help, take your supports off before you cure and there will be much less damage. Also, that blue plastic should come off of the piece that goes under the turntable. It's reflective and will help your prints cure. 😊 I love every video you guys do. I hope one day my channel will be as big as yours!! 😊❤️
I hope you do more snow diorama. Maybe have some light going through the snow, like when icicles during sunrise of sorts? Or a glowing monster/mermaid underneath icy waters?
I am so glad you are back! I've seriously missed you both. Ive been rewatching past vids to get my Nerdforge fix. Hope your holidays were great. Love this diorama! Very well done!
Another great build. Being Irish, Im absolutely positive that I have Viking blood in me (most of us do). I love everything about Vikings. My main thing about this project is the size of the Wolf. Its the size of a small horse.
Found this channel yesterday and immediately fell in love. Such amazing creations. Have been glued to the screen and I'm just binging a lot of episodes right now. Incredible to see the landscapes come to life.
Stunning as always! 😍 I loveeeee that you tried the viking thing. I've been waiting for something like that, and snowy. I think it turned out AMAZING and I hope you have plans for future snow projects! 💛 Also, the Ice in the water and the little flame details???? The ice was so realistic, like SO REALISTIC, that I actually forgot it's not real and I was like "but wait, won't it melt in the resin" 😭😭😭 And the little flame with the glue??? It's always the small details that amaze me the most. You did such a good job 😭💛
Most people make swords or helmets out of foam, not Martina, she makes landscapes and it looks good. This inspires me, to come up with a necklace, made to look like ice. I love how much work, she puts into her peices. Also hansi, is a real wizard with what he does, the man needs his own wand.
I love your shows. The enthusiasm exhibited by the two of you is absolutely delightful. Having watched quite a few of your creations I am amazed again by your talent. Thankyou for all the very enjoyable episodes
"Disproportionately epic music" is the best quote I've heard all week! Never hurts to poke some fun at your own methods. I was at first scared that you were going to paint the rock just grey with lighter grey drybrush, but I forgot that Martina is literally an artist, and so would of course know better. It looks fab!
Such a really amazing diorama! I was a little discouraged as well when you covered all of your really hard and excellent work with snow! But that’s just the way it goes you know what’s under there and all your hard work is still there. It’s a good thing you have a record of it and let us see so we can appreciate just how hard these things are! Thanks again guys you’re both wonderful artists and amazing constructionists.
The ice chunks on top of the water look amazing!! I always look forward to it when I see a new video from you two. There’s so much inspiration to be had!
This is absolutely perfect ! Thank you so much for always bringing such high quality content. I’ve said it in another video but you are an inspiration to so many!
I’m so glad I found you!! I love this project. My Nana was from Larvik and her grand father was a boat builder and our Viking heritage. Love your work!!
You should continue with this and do the seasons! Connect them end to end or in a circle... and in the center a lareger crysyal or something else. Keep the same theme, maybe add a village or a hunting party. Oh so many ideas! Love it!!!!!!
Hi guys, fantastic to see your beautiful smile again. Hope you and your families had a safe and wonderful Christmas and I wish you all the best for the coming year. Your dioramas always look incredible and you make it look so easy, I wish I had just a quarter of your talent, can't wait to see what you do next!!!
I agree that it looked better before all the snow. You did an amazing job on the landscape and then you covered it up. All in all it is beautiful. Your talent amazes me
I just discovered this channel yesterday and I'm already so hooked ♡ Incredible talent and dedication but also super good vibes and lovely personalities! Btw would anybody know the song at 8:06? It's incredibly beautiful~
I felt a chill of cold with the lighting and the snow in the final results. Looks like an awesome epic story. Doing something new and succeeding fuels the imagination to accomplish more. Can't wait to see what is in store for 2022.
if you guys are having issues with bed adhesion and prints failing. i recommend putting a small heater near your printers. also coat your fep sheet with ptfe lubricant. love your guys projects and keep up the good work.
Hey, good to have you back, great project! Here's some random observations: a) "some disproportionally epic music" - Martina, I just love your sense of humor! b) Also, the way you learned to paint the objects is incredible, excellent job with the boat, it just looked like a real wood, c) on the other hand, the trees look kinda all the same, but I get you didn't want to kill yourself creating and painting unique snowy trees, d) the diorama just RADIATES Skellige atmosphere, so bye, I'm off to another compulsive round of Witcher 3, see you in few weeks!
this looks so cool!!! judging from precious pieces i think you like color and texture, the unfortunate nature of snow is to cover most of that up like a fluffy blanket. maybe you could combine those two things by making a "last snows in spring" piece. where you see grass and some flowers peaking through with the last remnants of the melting snow. it would be a nice mix of snowy edges and some pops of color
There's not many vids i will watch twice but when it comes to these guys its bloody impossible not it..Martina's enthusiasm and excitement makes these vids so enjoyable and her fella is also got some serious talents aswell..sorry dont how to spell his name😁. Im a scratch what if model builder myself ..i dont build what the Forge builds but thats never stopped me enjoying awesome builds ..keep em coming guys ..cant wait to see what you get up to next 😃
I have a diorama waiting to be assembled. Bastogne in WWII. Seeing how you did the snow effects has given me the confidence to finally put it all together.
As always a well made video with great content. Love watching the stuff you create, it's very inspiring. A small hint for the 3D printing part, it's often easier removing the supports from the print before curing the models. When the prints have just left the machine and you have cleaned them they won't be as brittle as after the curing process so they are much easier to remove without damaging the model. Thanks for another fantastic video
Lovely. The rocks and snow are amazing. The water too. I’m not too keep on the pre done trees. Too uniform. When you make your own they look so much better. Looking forward to your next epic.
Always something different, entertaining, the builds are something else, class every time, brilliant, brilliant, brilliant not forgetting about the natural talent...
I like the snow but got so sad when you covered up all that rock work you did!! I personally really liked it when the snow was spotty, as if it were in the process of melting. But it is such a good scene! It looks like a scene from a book or movie.
Hi! This is amazing!! I just wanted to give some 3d printing tips: 1) safety, you should be wearing some sort of mask when working with resin 2) to have less support clean up wash and rinse the print then remove supports before curing I'm not sure of your process for supports, but my usual process is auto supporting either on light or medium depending on the size of the mini then going in with more supports varying between all 3 support types in different areas. I rarely have fails, but it is totally a learning process you'll definitely start getting less fails as you all keep going 😊💙
Can you make another book/journal with upcycled leather like you did with the boots? You’ve learned so much of leatherworking since then and I think it would be a good way to measure your progress. Thank you for the great content, you make awesome stuff!
The rock texture and color is perfect. I make 1/35 scale army dioramas with paper mache, Mini Art buildings sand and dried moss. I am going to try the tin foil with plaster rock texture method next. I also make keychains with 2- part clear epoxy, i should combine the crafts and make some dioramas with water features. We just did an online genealogy last year and our ancestors are from Norway in the city of Narvik, they went to England in the 1820's then to America.
I love your details like wow the snow is like a real snow when u look close to it and the color wow the amount of details u put with no worry makes me wanna try as well.
It's in projects like these that it really shows the incredible amount of hours that must've gone into aquiring the skills you have, Martina! I'm in absolute awe of how good you are at creating things, and it's obvious that you've worked hard to become this good. Really, truly, you're incredible!
That landscape looks very cold. I think you achieved a very accurate depiction of a freezing escape from the icy sea for those Vikings and their dog. Great work. It turned out excellent. ❄️🌊
loved this so much, and i guess part of it is that i miss snow, even when Hansie went outside to prime the 3-d minis, and i agree with you Martina, the snow was fine but i did like the landscape before the snow more

Also, that blue plastic should come off of the piece that goes under the turntable. It's reflective and will help your prints cure. 😊 I love every video you guys do. I hope one day my channel will be as big as yours!! 😊❤️
² that
Adding the snow took the diorama from fall to winter. Another great project.
Worth. The. Wait. This is so cool, definitely worth the waiting this last month
Missed you guys SO MUCH!!! Totally worth the wait though. Can’t wait to see what’s next!!!
A spring snow storm: snow on green grass. We get those in Montana as well.
With how good at making things she is I would love to see Elsa’s Castle and the North Mountain
Also, the Ice in the water and the little flame details????
This really looks awesome. I think placing it in a diorama type box with blue moon lighting would create an interesting atmosphere.
The water looks so, so SO effective!! Good job! Worth the wait 😍
Thank you!! 😊
I love how you made the water look black instead of blue it looks really nice with the snowy landscape :D
Im just in love with this channel. Nothing else I can say. Absolutely in love.
I’m so glad I found you!! I love this project. My Nana was from Larvik and her grand father was a boat builder and our Viking heritage. Love your work!!
I am so excited!!!
You should continue with this and do the seasons! Connect them end to end or in a circle... and in the center a lareger crysyal or something else. Keep the same theme, maybe add a village or a hunting party. Oh so many ideas! Love it!!!!!!
Wow wow WOW IT IS SO AWESOME, Martina!😍 Such a cold, grim and viking-esque(?) look it's got indeed. The ice has come out just BEYOND understanding 🤯
Thank you!! 😄🙌
17:20 Oh, wow. It's been a couple of decades since I lived in the North. Seeing your take on Winter brings back the Cold. In a good way!
Your talent amazes me
I can't wait to see this masterpiece!!!😆☺️💗
Me too ❤💫
It'd be neat to see a diorama of these two (the hero and his wolf friend) on an adventure in every season!
I'm assuming you guys aren't fully moved into the new space... I can't wait to see more of how you transform it to make it your own!
I've honestly never met anyone who likes covering their work after doing so much detail, so I can understand
woow increible, muchas gracias por compartir, saludos desde México
disculpa que escriba en español, entiendo ingles pero no lo se escribir 😬
if you guys are having issues with bed adhesion and prints failing. i recommend putting a small heater near your printers. also coat your fep sheet with ptfe lubricant. love your guys projects and keep up the good work.
I so look forward to your videos. Thanks fort posting.
Same, the snow completely removed all the nice looking green grass and the nice looking rocks underneath
It looks amazing 🤩!! Can't wait 😄
I am new subscriber !!
Scandinavia in the winter is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen
Hey, good to have you back, great project! Here's some random observations: a) "some disproportionally epic music" - Martina, I just love your sense of humor! b) Also, the way you learned to paint the objects is incredible, excellent job with the boat, it just looked like a real wood, c) on the other hand, the trees look kinda all the same, but I get you didn't want to kill yourself creating and painting unique snowy trees, d) the diorama just RADIATES Skellige atmosphere, so bye, I'm off to another compulsive round of Witcher 3, see you in few weeks!
Oh it does great now its Witcher time for me too lol Ive been all about God Of War waiting for Ragnarok to come out
I was gonna say I liked seeing all the rocks and detail before the snow was added, but this looks great as well! Love this channel!
this looks so cool!!! judging from precious pieces i think you like color and texture, the unfortunate nature of snow is to cover most of that up like a fluffy blanket. maybe you could combine those two things by making a "last snows in spring" piece. where you see grass and some flowers peaking through with the last remnants of the melting snow. it would be a nice mix of snowy edges and some pops of color
It looks so good 😍😍😍 the icy water especially! But also love your hair at the end Martina 😊
Oh wow that sketchbook is gorgeous!
Kinda feels like the snow hid most of the great work with shades and greens you did in the steppes before. It looks great thought
As a base you could also use low expanding foam that is used to mount door frames etc. You can cut it like Styrofoam, easy shaping.
Loving the disproportionately epic music.
The imagination and the talent is just unreal. I'm new here and slowly working my back in time haha. Much love.
Lovely. The rocks and snow are amazing. The water too. I’m not too keep on the pre done trees. Too uniform. When you make your own they look so much better. Looking forward to your next epic.
The snow looks awesome, such a Northern vibe
Always something different, entertaining, the builds are something else, class every time, brilliant, brilliant, brilliant not forgetting
about the natural talent...
I would like to see in the future a diorama of Norse mythology, something really epic with light effects and motion, it would be so cool
I like the snow but got so sad when you covered up all that rock work you did!! I personally really liked it when the snow was spotty, as if it were in the process of melting.
But it is such a good scene! It looks like a scene from a book or movie.
Hi! This is amazing!! I just wanted to give some 3d printing tips:
1) safety, you should be wearing some sort of mask when working with resin
2) to have less support clean up wash and rinse the print then remove supports before curing
I'm not sure of your process for supports, but my usual process is auto supporting either on light or medium depending on the size of the mini then going in with more supports varying between all 3 support types in different areas. I rarely have fails, but it is totally a learning process you'll definitely start getting less fails as you all keep going 😊💙
Can you do a series where you make weapons and magic items and outfits based on or inspired by video games
Like assassins creed or Skyrim please
How did I not catch that Hansi is Johnny Lawrences son before now. 3D printing and karate are two hobbies that makes sense together.
Can you make another book/journal with upcycled leather like you did with the boots? You’ve learned so much of leatherworking since then and I think it would be a good way to measure your progress. Thank you for the great content, you make awesome stuff!
Awesome job, Martina!!! It’s freezing and snow covered over here in Canada 🇨🇦 too, so I feel the inspiration!
Skol!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I can't WAIT! I'll edit this when I've seen it, I'm incredibly excited to see how amazing it turns out!
looks terrific , you should pick a scene then do all 4 seasons of that same scene to show the differences and effects of time
I remember when Hansi just started to appear in your videos, he was a bit awkward at first, I love how comfortable he is now.
I really appreciate the editing to the beat at 7:32.
Commenting to boost the video 🤪. But seriously amazing video Martina, thank you so much. You are such an inspiration to me, never stop being awesome
