I have this exact engine bought it from the original owner .
EVEN as a kid I was Bonkers about old outboards and I set up display at a steam and power show in Battle Ground Indiana probably 1987 of old engines couple them running in 5 gallon buckets and the old man came up and said would you like to buy my old outboard and I said what is it and he said it's a little Elgin and the damn thing quit in the middle of the lake and I had to row home and I never use it again. He built this beautiful box to keep it in and I think I bought it for $35 still have it today and it runs like a charm don't know why it quit for him. It was the the cheapest motor sold by Sears right after the war.

Just think of how practical that outboard is - it could still be used today, as long as you're only interested in "not rowing". One thing about it though is how the smoke seems to hang around, because it's going so slow.
