Azaelic Acid makes a huge difference with Rosacea. It reduces inflammation and helps with redness. I wish it helped more with the heat, but it's still an everyday go to.
Hi Dr. Sam. My jaw literally dropped when you said use it in the morning and then retinoids at night! I've learned from you that it has the ability to turn down skin sensitivity but I normally only use it at night so this is such a great tip since I also went up on the % of my retinol I will really need the support of Azeleic Acid . This is so exciting. Thank you so much again!
2 days in with The Ordinary Azelaic Acid and I saw a positive change with my active acne and PIH! I don't have sensitive skin, on the contrary, mine is very resistant. It does not cause any irritation or dryness. I have high hope for it!
A Wonderful video. We are long time friends with aza, i’ve been using it for few years and i strongly agree with all your reasons but two of them are worth pointing even more: 1. Aza alone doesn’t keep my acne at bay. It calms my skin for sure and after a night with aza i always notice reduction of inflamation (if i have any active spot), but to stay spotless i need to use aza and bpo (retinoids and retinol makes my skin angry). 2. Aza definitely improve apearance of the skin. When i use aza my skin look just better. Nothing sparkling, but kind of more even toned, more radiant, more smooth, more calm.
I have been using a prescription retinoid for over a year and was really hoping it was going to help me with my deep pre menopausal nodal acne . It did wonders though for my fine lines and I did notice a huge difference in my pores which have incredibly shrunk but unfortunately did not help with my hormonal acne whatsoever . Then one month ago I started a 20% azelaic acid and OH MY ! I am in love with this. From the moment I started I started seeing a decrees in size of my nodule acne. Within 10 days gone and I'm talking about a farm of pimples around my jaw line and chin , plus I was battling with heaps of contact dermatitis all over my jawline, chin and all under my jawline around my neck and that all gone in less than ten days. Not only has my skin completely cleared up , I also have not had a single breakout in three weeks. My skin texture is baby smooth, I can't believe how even and smooth it feels and the brightness and luminosity is real with this stuff. Lucky for me I live in Australia and the 20% azelaic acid is sold over the counter for $12 such a bargain. I have been using it twice a day and in the evening I put it on just before my retinoid. Honestly the first two nights skin felt a little itchy but now my skin tolerates mixing the two together. I got my daughter on it also and she started seeing immediate effects and loves it. It's out favourite skin care product by far.

I have been to many different (4-5) dermatologists for years. They gave me many different expensive creams and nothing helped my cystic acne (such as dalacin c and benz. Perox.). I also took isotretinoin for years and each time I would stop taking it, the acne came back each time stronger. The only thing that helped a bit is the pill. I also took tretinoin cream by myself (the docs did not prescribe it to me) and it got a bit better. I am glad I found out your channel and made me buy azelaic acid. You changed my life

I'm male and 70 but still looking to decrease the somewhat worsening facial redness. Though a dermatologist a few years ago said I do NOT have rosacea. I'm on my second bottle of The Ordinary Niacinamide and any results have been negligible. I used it faithfully for almost a year to no avail. I will try the Ordinary Azelaic Acid for redness but I know it will not help facial spider veins. Nonetheless, thank you for your research and making this video.

Thank you, Dr Sam for reintroducing me to this wonderful ingredient. I was prescribed it by my derm 4 years ago and loved it but then I started trying other more hyped up ingredients and products and after watching your videos went back to it. My skin loves it.
Dr Sam, is it the normal reaction that my face has this itchy sensation whenever I apply Azelaic acid on my face???I use 15 or 20%. The itchiness really bothers me and keeps me away from using on a daily basis.
Yes this is normal in the first few weeks of use. After which it should go away. How long have you used it? When I started using it I had itchy skin for 3 weeks.
It's totally ok, your skin needs time to become tolerant, try to apply it on moisturised skin until you get used to it, it helped me a lot to reduce itchiness and to stay motivated to use it. Good luck and don't give up! :-)
CelineAmile I’ve just started using Azelaic Acid ( 20% Azelaic Acid by Skinoren) about a week ago (almost going to be two weeks) and I wondering if I should moistures before or after applying aza acid. At the moment I just cleanse face using Simple miceller gel wash cleanser and then apply aza acid. But my skin has been really dry lately and I have oily skin.
My former beautician gave me azelaic acid when I was in the army and my skin was influenced by the dirt and overall the army routine. From some reason every time I applied it it would sting and itch to the point I couldn't sleep and had to wash it off. When I told her about it she just brushed me off saying that's what I *should* feel but I felt it wasn't right. I tried other exfoliates and had no problems at all and my skin improved. Don't know why my experience with azelaic acid was so bad 🤷♀️

I use vit C then azelaic acid then cerave moisturizer & sunscreen in the morning. At night, I use retinoin, cerave moisturizer. What’s your opinion on my skincare routine?
I recently started using Skinoren (over the counter 20% azelaic acid) and it says on the leaflet not to use for more than 12 months at a time. Why is that? Do people normally use this all the time without breaks, or just at a lower concentration??
If I use azelaic acide in combination with vitamin C, does it mattet which one I put first ?? I use the ordinary and they pretty much have the same consistency
A representative from the ordinary advised me against using the two together in the same routine, advised to use them at different times of day or on alternate days. The ordinary is super helpful on their messenger, I asked this exact question, and then ended up just telling them all the products I had and they gave me a whole day and night routine with tips!
I have stubborn melasma and occasional adult acne. I tried a lot of different approaches to combat this, but Azaleic Acid is BY FAR the only active that has helped to improve my skin dramatically over the last year. I use it daily at night in combination with Tretinoin as a spot treatment and have had no irritation at all. I use DUCRAY Melascreen - it’s an excellent and affordable product. Generic pharmacy medication grade creams like FINACEA 15% is also excelent and very inexpensive. No need to spend a lot of cash on fancy products. THIS WORKS.
I'm not a nurse or doctor but I see a huge lump on the left side of your neck. Some viewers have saved lives by noticing this. Please see your doctor. Thanks for the video.
Hi Dr. Sam! I have two question. How do I layer azelaic acid and vitamin c together? I am on tetracycline, benzaclin, and tretinoin. Can I replace benzaclin with azelaic acid? Thank you
What kind of issues you have ? Severe acne, red bumps, etc? I heard this is very good for those kind of issues, but you must be patience. Also, it can be use with others except for certain ingredients depends on the individual. The only way is to test it out yourself if it works for you or not. Good luck.
I'm 64 and have old acne red marks on my cheeks from 30 years ago. Will azelaic acid face those red marks, or is it more for newer acne scars and melasma?
Hi, I am purging after using azelaic acid. It's almost more than 4 weeks since I started using azelaic acid. My big cystic acne which was caused during this purging period has flattened and left red marks. Also I have small comodonal acne without any heads, which aren't healing. Is it possible that it is not working for me? Or should I stick to it for bit longer? Purging isn't fun 😢
A product I have really been enjoying is the Face Theory PoreBright N10 Serum, which contains Azelaic Acid + Niacinamide. It's vegan, cruelty-free, eco-friendly, fragrance-free and affordable! :)
Is it true that this acid should not be put together with Peptides (they distroy each other)? For example Matrixyl water base serum and them azelaic creme? Thank you
Hello Dr. Bunting, one more question about Azelaic acid. Should be applied right after cleansing on damp skin or after moisturizer!? Thanks so much for all the knowledge you sharing.
1. great for acne (anti-inflammatory, anti-comedonal, anti-bacterial)
2. reduces post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
3. doesn't cause antibiotic resistance
4. calms rosacea and redness
5. tackles melasma
6. can treat perioral dermatitis
7. very well tolerated (few side effects)
8. safe to use during pregnancy and lactation
9. anti-aging benefits (antioxidant, evens out skin texture)
10. plays well with other actives
Can I use it with niacinamide serum

15-20% is ideal
Did you see any improvement ??
How do you layer them?
I'm male and 70 but still looking to decrease the somewhat worsening facial redness. Though a dermatologist a few years ago said I do NOT have rosacea. I'm on my second bottle of The Ordinary Niacinamide and any results have been negligible. I used it faithfully for almost a year to no avail. I will try the Ordinary Azelaic Acid for redness but I know it will not help facial spider veins. Nonetheless, thank you for your research and making this video.
Hi doctor. I have acnes. Can I use benzoyl peroxide and azelaic acid together? Thanks
Every time before my period, I would get a pimple or 2. I started using PC’s 2% BHA and AA booster and it all disappears within 2 days with no scars! I’m 45. Wish I knew this secret when I was in my teens😁
Every time I put on azaliac acid my face feels like it’s on fire and it itches so bad for like 20 minutes
Use a colloidal oat based moisturiser the moment you are done applying azelaic acid
Did you experience annoying stings and itchy while on Azelaic acid? Also possible for azelaic acid to surface sort of purging at first using?
Hi Dr Bunting. I started using Finacea for melasma. I read that one mustn't use anything else when using Azelain acid. Can i still use sunblock (Haloicare mineral fluid)?
What is the difference between kojicacid and azelic acid .how long it will use, longterm use any problem. Can I use in daily skincare routine. Please explain correct usages of these acids
Thank you, Dr Sam for reintroducing me to this wonderful ingredient. I was prescribed it by my derm 4 years ago and loved it but then I started trying other more hyped up ingredients and products and after watching your videos went back to it. My skin loves it.
❤
How to use ,azelic acid first or moisturiser first, how to use ????
Thank you! Brilliant vid 🙌🏻
Yup started itching abit but it went away. Maybe reduce it to a 10%? Xx
I bought the ordinary one which is 10%, so far no issues
CelineAmile I’ve just started using Azelaic Acid ( 20% Azelaic Acid by Skinoren) about a week ago (almost going to be two weeks) and I wondering if I should moistures before or after applying aza acid.
At the moment I just cleanse face using Simple miceller gel wash cleanser and then apply aza acid. But my skin has been really dry lately and I have oily skin.
Why on earth am I not using it already?
i love my ordinary azelaic acid. one of my favorite ingredients that helps my hormonal acne and hyperpigmentation
Clear & concise from an expert - thank you Dr Sam x
Can you please a full video of Perioral Dermatitis , i have suffered fr it since 1y and i have went to the doctor but it comes back everytime 😔
Azelaic acid is so easily available here in India without prescription for $2-$3 at different concentrations. We are lucky and blessed!
Hi Rutuja. I started using tretinoin a month back. I am from India only can you please suggest some name of prescription azelaic acid available in India. And do let me know how you use it if possible. ❤️

I use vit C then azelaic acid then cerave moisturizer & sunscreen in the morning. At night, I use retinoin, cerave moisturizer. What’s your opinion on my skincare routine?
Very clear, informative advice! Thank you 😊
I am going to try as the benefits are great and glad to know that it plays well with vitamin c and niacinamide. Thanks Dr. Sam.
How often should it be used?
I recently started using Skinoren (over the counter 20% azelaic acid) and it says on the leaflet not to use for more than 12 months at a time. Why is that? Do people normally use this all the time without breaks, or just at a lower concentration??
Does BHA causes antibiotic resistance? I wish you make a video with this topic. 🙂
Heard ordinary Azelaic acid has a strong syllicone that doesn’t come off after one wash
Good luck.
Hi I'm from Iraq and I want to ask you about the products of relumins if it useful?
I just ordered Paula choice Azaic Acid as I am done with six weeks of triluma. My melasma has lighten but of course not completely gone.
What about azelaic acid and copper peptides? Can they be layered?
I'm 64 and have old acne red marks on my cheeks from 30 years ago. Will azelaic acid face those red marks, or is it more for newer acne scars and melasma?
Thanks a lot Dr. Sam. I am using niacinamide with Azelaic acid in the morning and glycolic acid at night.
Thank you Dr. Sam I have never heard of it. I'm going to buy it straight away. So you start with 10% and then go up?
Can i use it with niacinamide in the morning?thanks
Does azelaic acid decrease the FFA on the skin? Is that a good thing or bad?
Hi, have you heard of Facetheory brand? They have a serum with 15% azelaic acid.
What about the skinoren cream?
Can I use it with PHA and mandalic acid?
Hi, I am purging after using azelaic acid. It's almost more than 4 weeks since I started using azelaic acid. My big cystic acne which was caused during this purging period has flattened and left red marks. Also I have small comodonal acne without any heads, which aren't healing. Is it possible that it is not working for me? Or should I stick to it for bit longer? Purging isn't fun 😢
Hownis skinoren 20% for starters???
is it safe to use it everyday?
I will definitely buy Azelaic acid now!
Azelaic cream ka use karte hue salicylic face wash use kr sakte hai kia
Dr. Why my skin felt itchy after i put azelaic acid ?
A product I have really been enjoying is the Face Theory PoreBright N10 Serum, which contains Azelaic Acid + Niacinamide. It's vegan, cruelty-free, eco-friendly, fragrance-free and affordable! :)
Please make a video about all the medications available to treat acne marks/scars..
Check out dr Davin Lim, I think laser works well for acne scars.
Is it true that this acid should not be put together with Peptides (they distroy each other)? For example Matrixyl water base serum and them azelaic creme? Thank you
I use the Paula’s Choice Azelaic acid for my roseacea and it works wonders!
I also have rosacea but my dermatologist is probably the least helpful ever.. Do you suffer acne from rosacea?
Dr does it work for pigmentation ? I have peeling skin can i use it?
Hello Dr. Bunting, one more question about Azelaic acid. Should be applied right after cleansing on damp skin or after moisturizer!? Thanks so much for all the knowledge you sharing.
Love your explanation. Took me back to my MSc lectures (TLRs)
Is it just as bad as glycolic acid in terms of making you more prone to sun sensitivity, having to wear a high sunscreen factor afterwards.
Can we use peptides with azelaic acid? I heard that it is not suggested by the ordinary to mix the peotide and azelaic products.
Is it good for sensitive skin?
Is this enough as a facial exfoliant if using every night or every two nights? If I use this can I skip manual exfoliation completely?
