- How to convert AC to DC.
In the modern era, almost every household electronics works on Direct Current (DC) but we get Alternating Current (AC) from power generation plants via transmission lines because AC can be transmitted more efficiently than DC in lower cost. So every appliance which works on DC has and AC to DC converter circuit.
In this video, we will discuss traditional Transformer based design which use simple diodes and capacitor to convert the Alternating current into Direct Current and an optional voltage regulator to regulate the output DC voltage. The project will be an AC-DC converter using Transformer with an input voltage of 230V and output of 12V.

This explains better than my prof’s 10 hrs lectures explaining this simple concept.
If electricity and electronics could be explained in schools in a very clear and descriptive way like you, there would be more electronics engineers and technicians in the world now. You are amazing. Thank you so much.
Yes ur right
Glad to hear that. Keep watching.
I agree with this guy 💯💙
You think this was clear ???
@@martinkuliza absolutely clear, it's comprehensible and easy to understand
I've tried to learn this 100 times over and this video broke it down in a way I finally got
Its was so easy to understand that even i ( a mechanic) understand it 😁
Why are we using a bridge diode? In converting ac to dc
In AC, both the lines comes with positive and negative alternatively (mixed) so we use diode rectifier to collect only positive charge to the positive line and to collect only the negative to the negative. Thus we get a pure dc wave.
😂😂
Thank you.
You are genuine. When i was doing electrical engineering. We were wondering all the time, what our professor talking about.
It's rare to find someone who is able to transform concepts in a way that makes us all smart.
Thank you.
One of the best explained videos I have ever seen! Thumbs up.
My goodness bloody fricking just 7:14 sec that's it. No complicated formulas and blah blah. Just pure graphics and background explanation. It was like listening to a song which consists of Vocal + music which u like to listen again and again.
Great, accurate explanation, in most simplistic manner. Thank you for educating.
Hi, friend. Watch my video.

Love your teaching style, I hope you continue to make videos. Well done!
Thank you ! Brilliant!!!!
Thank you! Will do!
Well done Prof Mad. Great lesson and easy to understand. Thank you for sharing.
So easy to understand now i know how to step-down the voltage from AC to DC.
What a great explanation, so much falls into place for me as a new hobbiest of electronics
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. Down to earth to layout the flow between AC to DC voltage. Thank you.
Thanks.
Now i'm Understanding something new ❤
This instructor is awesome
Thank you you are intelligent to explain in the clearest way so that anyone can comprehend completely.
Thank you
Excellent tutorial. Fully explained and it’s easy to follow.
Great to hear!
Very easy to understand Thanks you!

Glad you like them!
Thank you so much for such an informative and well prepared video not only did you show us the schematic design but you also showed us with the components with their physical appearance... Thank you so much.. Just subscribed look forward to more
What an explanation! Very well understand... Thank you so much
Glad it was helpful!
You are insane my brother. This is the best explanation I have seen so far.
Glad it helped
Nicely explained Sir.Very simple and easy
Brilliant explanation thank you.
clear explanation with animations .. thanks sir .. for understanding it very easily ..
Glad to hear that
Thank youu Sir!! It was Really Helpful! 😊
Amazing video. Thank you so much!
Welcome
Crystal clear❤
This should be part of the school curriculum, youngsters need to know how their video games consoles work 😅
Really is Best Description
Excellent explanation
Well that was easy to understand... Thanks!
Beautiful illustrations. Amazing animations. Great explanations. Kudos !!!
Thank you! Cheers!

How about the inductor to better smooth the ripple and control fast-peak current?
Give me a hint, I want to create a full-wave rectifier diode bridge and build-in into the wall socket (I have already all i needed), ~230AC --> ⎓230DC separate high-voltage DC (maximum smoothed ripple) for convenience and special purposes, of course, for local protection from the main household wiring - 50Amp fusible ceramic fuse...
To be clear - I'm not a noob, and i know what to do, electronics has been my passion for many years.
So, what do you think about this - the optimal values of capacitors(many people recommend using 3 different capacitors - 1 main large-value and 2 smaller);
Polarized or variable capacitor; ceramic, metalized polyester film or aluminum electrolytic?;
Inductance coil: - type and inductance value;
Necessary or needless - transformer with an insulating coil ~230-230v for galvanic isolation(more safety)?
@@Amy_Price plz hlp me .i m not good in this, i want a 12v supply to light up♨️ my led . i hv transformer nd doide setup👍🏻. which capactor🤔 nd (where can i get voltage regulater😵) voltage regulator nd transistors are same or not 😮??
@@harpreetsandhu1401
It's very simple if you know how to work with a soldering, there are many AC 220v-DC 12v power adapters(Old power supply for pc:12v-5v), and for the brightness of the LED ribbon - the variable resistor (potentiometer) he can be found in the old external speakers, it's spinning)
@@Amy_Price ys i hv used soldier iron bt whts use of variable resistor in circuit. and do i need capacitor or not and that voltage regulator (≪shown in vdo)
Really really awesome explanation brother. Now I'm able to understand clearly the difference between AC and DC. If this kind of explanation was there during my college studies, I would have become THE BEST electronics engineer by now... Kudos for your mind blowing explanations skills...
thank you for this understandable video!
Glad to hear that
Ur video explains the components application and it's working principle very clearly. Thank you very much for uploading such an useful video.
You are most welcome
An perfectly Explanation.
Thank you 👍🏽
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much. Well illustrated and I undestood. I love electronics and I don't have electronic background but I love to learn. Appreciate it.
Wonderful!
Very clear explanation, thank you!!
Thank you.
I truly enjoy watching your videos; you explain things so clear and effective that the new person without electronic background can understand and not get overwhelmed. Thank you so much for taking your valuable time making these videos. Have a great day! Regards, JZ at "Radio Fixer"
Thanks for watching!
What specs should the diodes and capacitor have for a regular kind transformer using this video approach?
The capacitor add in should be my solution for my threadmill motor project. will see?
Thanks Mister Mad..!
Need more electronics videos..!
sure. keep watching
Easy to understand the concept.
Very good. The animations are very helpful. Thanks!
Glad you like them!
Wonderful sir, you make me grateful to you
Thank you.
Outstanding explanation!
Glad you liked it
Немедля продолжаем наблюдать,и узнавать казалось бы простые истины 😮😮😮!!!!!!!👍👍💰💰💰
Great video. Well explained process and technically sound. Great lesson. Animations and explanations were easy to follow and completely thorough. I now know how this process is achieved in changing AC to DC. Thank you! I definitely learned a lot, but please consider losing the computer voice. Also, "Rectifire" is actually spelled "Rectifier".

Thanks a ton.
wonderful videos, very helpful, thanks from switzerland.
Thanks for watching!
Great video! Your thoughts on adding a inductor and a fuse in this config? Also, would this work for a treadmill Conversion?
Thanks for your good exlpanation
This video explained it immensely better than my college physics professor ever did!!
And that is what I pay my taxes for
College? You should have learned this long before you were old enough for college.
@@bingosunnoon9341 I took the AP Chem and AP Bio route in high school, while also taking courses at college. So I never was in a high school physics class, and none of my teachers ever mentioned it.
Thank you.
Great explanation , Thank you so much
