Everything was XTREME in the early 2000s, including this S-10 truck and the Blazer. Lowered, sport suspension, killer wheels, ground effects, perfect for a couple subs in the back... the Xtreme trucks were the envy of everyone around you. I picked up this 2000 Chevy S-10 Xtreme for free from a subscriber, and drove 10 hours to pull it out of it's tomb. Now we're going to bring it back to life... but with a much better drivetrain, and without the insect and animal filled interior.

It was really just a countdown to "battery out"
Besides the 3.8L-3800 the 4.3L is the toughest V6 out there, we had a 2000 Silverado I was over 500,000k on it and we pulled a 30 foot motorhome with it with no problems up and down hills.
Passenger airbag in GM are crazy, I’ve done one before.
Those 4.3 do feel like 5.3 v8 they feel solid
When you need to watch Vice Grip Garage to learn to pull the plugs and put some ATF down those spark-a-lator holes.
they said ALL the plugs were already pulled. The motor was seized with NO plugs in it.

@@mullinsjm1 the cover was literally the only thing holding the dash together in my wife's 94. And you can't find good used replacements because they're all that way 🤦♂️

I love these old S10 Extreme’s. My nephew had one lowered, red. Super nice looking truck back in the day.

@@Moecean yup, they started in 1994 with the second gen body style and the last year was the 98 before they introduced the xtreme. Mine is a 98 white flare side. Fun little truck, came with the ZQ8 suspension, vortech 4.3 and SS badges. Also, only offered in red, white and black.

@@Moecean for real. They missed a market there. Then again GM is notorious for putting SS or special edition badges and nothing else is really different. There were some new Pontiac Sunfires that used to come off the transport when I worked at the dealership after finishing HS... we used to look at these badges or stickers and wonder what the hell was different about the car. In alot of cases the only difference was the sticker itself lol.
@@rxtuninginc8444 GM likes to make option packages, probably the SS or SE was a gimmick that got you a group of options all together under one RPO code.

I love these builds where you go from junk to something nice and fun
At one time dealers were trying to give these away. One year you could lease a brand new one with $0 down and $99 a month. It was a bare bones, manual window, 5 speed 4 banger single cab. But it was an xtreme version in all black and looked great. My buddy got one just to have a run around truck for hauling parts for his projects.
If I could work on the Chevrolet S10 Xtreme with Watch JR Goes, Joshs, and Erics I would drink the cold Bartle Skeets and roll up the fat Woolford and get all schmoked up.
It's downright amazing how previous owners can destroy a vehicle within a few years, unprecedented lol

Had to worry about it a lot repairing lawn equipment. Theres almost ALWAYS a mouse nest come spring. We had a steam cleaner, and chemicals to wash stuff before we ever touched it.
I’ve torn down and rebuilt 3 S10s over the past 6 years, absolutely my favorite trucks ever.

The interior was trash so we threw it away... the engine was trash so we threw that away too. The tires were horrible and trash so we threw that away as well. Then we discovered the body was full of rust so we threw that away too. But what was left was amazing....

my dad has a 96 s10 with the v6 vortec, its a pretty good engine, but somehow a small screw/bolt got in a cylinder and then another cylinder cracked so we got another v6 out of a Astro van

You guys should really be wearing masks when dealing with all of that. There are TONS of pathogens in that carpet. PPE is a must when dealing with that level of nastiness.

I have a 2.2L s10, and I want to do the same thing!! 5.3L swap! Interior for mine possibly can be saved, but heavily smoked in from previous owner.

I have two 1995's, plan was to lower and drop a turbo 4.8L LS, maybe twin turbo. Time is short and I have to frame swap one to the other then daily it. If I survive long enough. Have a 1996, former UofL security truck, has optional drivers floor board.

A friend of mine had one of these back in the early 2000s. Perfect truck for loading in motorcycles.

Although you're not keeping the 4.3. I'd HIGHLY Recommend a Holley Blackheart LS steering shaft upgrade. It applies to 1st and 2nd gen S10/Blazer/Jimmy.
You'll want PART# 71223021HKR for the 2nd gen. Runs $115. No need to fuss with random Junkyard garbage.

You should have made a street truck I replaced my interior dash to carpet for $100 looks brand new now. Extreme s10s are rare shame you didn't decide to fix it properly.
There is no fixing this truck, every single panel inside and out is damaged 🍻

Those airbags damn sure hit hard when you're in the car! Ask me how I know -- mine was a 1993 model car prior to NTSA figuring out the airbags deployed too hard.
you'll probably want to replace the drive shaft with a one piece design, GM made them with a cv joint to reduce vibration. after rebuilding mine 3x I gave up and replaced it!! well worth the $250
