    Items/ Tools Needed- Hammer, Utility Knife with Hook Blade, Chalk Line, Tape Measure, Claw bar, Sharpie Marker, Circular Saw, Roof Sealant, Caulk Gun
    Safety First: Eye Protection and Gloves
    Step # 1- :36 Measure desired ridge line work area.
    Ex: Here our project measures 19 total feet, We are installing 12 feet of Ridge Vent Material. Which means we have 7 ft extra, these 7 ft we divide these by 2 which then gives us 3.5 ft. For the Ridge Vent to be Centered and look aesthetically pleasing we need to start 3.5 ft from each end.
    EX: 19ft total Ridge Area
    -------l----------------------l-------l
    3.5ft 12 ft Material 3.5ft
    Step # 2- 1:04 Peel Back Felt Underlayment. Both Sides. No more than 2 inches from the peak.
    Step # 3- 1:14 Measure plywood from peak 1.5 inches down on both sides and mark using the Chalk line.
    Step # 4- 2:01 Use your claw bar to pull out nails from the Chalk Line marked area.
    Step # 5- 2:22 Begin to cut 1.5in chalk line mark on both sides.
    Step # 6- 2:56 Re-measure opened area, make sure you have a minimum 3 inch opening (Cut more if needed).
    Step # 7- 3:11 Cut needed ridge cap shingle Approx* 1 bundle of 3 tab shingle per 30 linear feet.
    Step # 8- 3:26 Start installing end ridge cap shingles. From gable end.
    Step # 9 - 4:09 Apply Roof Seal to all exposed roofing nails, although these nails will be covered with your ridge vent it's always good practice to do this as a precautionary measure. As a Professional Roofer I've seen leaks happen this way.
    Step # 10 - 4:29 Begin to install Ridge Vent use the prepackaged nails, nail into the prefabricated nail holes.
    Step # 11 - 5:33 Begin to install Ridge Cap Shingle guide yourself from an edge of the Ridge Vent.

    Do you recommend shingling over existing shingles? Please let me know, thanks a lot!

    • @AurumRoofing
      @AurumRoofing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, roofing over an existing roof is never recommended for several reasons:
      1. Double the weight per square foot of roofing structure.
      2. Flashings are very difficult to properly secure.
      3. Top layer of shingles will never lay 100% flat making them vulnerable to wind damage.

      2-1/2" ring shank roofing ridge vent nails preferably.

    I have Ridge Ventilation already and have acquired a solar roof fan. Is it overkill to install it also.....along with the ridge vent system.My 3 story house is still hot upstairs where we sleep. I would think it should be cooler. Am going to install more vents to pull air in also. Thanks for any advice.

    • @AurumRoofing
      @AurumRoofing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Richard, thanks for watching! And great question.Before anything I'd like you to check out our channel #AurumRoofing , we have a video on 3 free ways to Cool your attic down 2 of which you don't have to get on your roof. We also have a video on how you install a solar attic fan. Getting back to your original question.(not an over kill) When I install both types of Ventilations I like to install the attic fan about 4-5 ft down from the ridge vent. The reason why 4-5 ft is important, is because you don't want the fan to close to the ridge vent because you'll just be pulling cool outside air into your attic from your Ridge Vent and blowing it directly out of the fan(circling not good). 1 question. Is your attic being that it's 3 story, vaulted? If so I'd recommend you install some small 750's slant back vents from the roof and use these as a intec vent (3 ft away from the bottom edge) If it isn't vaulted and you are able to crawl near your soffit I'd recommend you remove any insulation away from your soffit vents, keep in mind you want to allow cool outside air in too not just focus on exhaust, intec is just as important. "Blow in from a straw doesn't work when you blow out of a barrel". Also, One of our latest video's "soffit don't work" make sure to watch it because it shows you actually what I'm talking about covered soffits. On the 3 ways to Cool your attic video there should be a link in the description to our website which explains ventilation make sure to check that out too. Good luck and I hope this helps. Make sure to subscribe, we have a new video coming soon on, how to install ridge shingles.

    How far do you hammer the nails down and what length do you use

    • @AurumRoofing
      @AurumRoofing  ปีที่แล้ว

      2 1/2" hand nails and only hammer them down flat to the vent, DO NOT MAKE DENTS ON THE VENT OR LEAVE THE NAIL RAISED.

  • @richcop

    Just had a new roof put on and they installed ridge vent. Looking inside of attic I noticed that they only cut one side of the roof sheathing is that acceptable.

    • @AurumRoofing
      @AurumRoofing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are both sides equally pitched? In most cases both sides should be cut but sometimes if one side is flatter than the other it's normal not to cut the flatter side (to prevent a roof leak)

    • @richcop
      @richcop 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AurumRoofing both are equally pitched I think probably laziness on contractors part.

    HOW AND WHY DID YOU DETERMINE TO ONLY INSTALL 12 FEET of VENT? IS THERE A CALCULATION YOU USED??

  • @svenlima
    @svenlima ปีที่แล้ว

    Doesn't rain get into the attic through those slits?

    • @AurumRoofing
      @AurumRoofing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as the ridgevent is properly installed on a 4/12 pitch or above, you should be perfectly fine.

    • @svenlima
      @svenlima ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AurumRoofing Thank you for your immediate answer! We have monsoon rain and wind here. I'm afraid that those very strong winds could blow water up those slits, even if they're pitched (?). Same problem with roof fans.

    • @AurumRoofing
      @AurumRoofing  ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand your concern, but most products are Dade County approved (makesure your product is), meaning they stand the test of hurricanes. You should be fine.
