Great job, man! Probably one of the best videos I've ever seen tbh. You manage to cut out all the bullshit and not waste anyone's time and still manage to include important tips and torque specifications, that other much longer videos lack! Excellent video :D. Thank you, sir.
Yup, this is good. I've been watching occasional random videos on how to replace struts on my Corolla. This is the one I needed to find to come back to actually get it done. Wish me luck!
I get my torque specs from Mitchell/ProDemand. Its unusual to see upper strut nut/bolts go much higher than 40-60ft-lbs. Im sorry you experienced that :(
Followed the torque specs from this video and I snapped the first bolt I tightened from the top mount. Went to check in the repair manual from Toyota and here are the torque specs I found (in foot-pound) : 29 for the 3 top mount nuts, 113 for the 2 axle assembly nuts, 55 for the stabilizer assembly nut... I hope this helps!
Youre right the torque is off. At the time, I was relying on google for torque specs and using the most common answers since theres so many different opinions. Mitchells Torque Specs: Lower Strut to Knuckle Nuts: 202 ft-lbs Upper Strut Nuts: 29 ft-lbs Sway Bar Link Nut: 33 ft-lbs
I have added this information to my description along with my apology. I very much appreciate you pointing this out. Thank you! Because of you, my future videos will be even more specific. Everyones comments are very important to me.
@@MegaMilesBen you actually had the same torque spec as Toyota for the sway bar link which is 55... Thanks for the video anyways, now I know I should always check the repair manual lol
So after talking with some shop buddies, if youre truly breaking the strut studs at only 59 ft-lbs, we all (4 of us) HIGHLY recommend NOT running them on your car. The studs are obviously of cheap quality.
I dont. I have a couple on ford escapes though, this one being the closest year... th-cam.com/video/7d5YxuqTH68/w-d-xo.html The process should be simular, yes.
I believe it’s the sway bar link, did you just loosen it only with the impact? Another video said you had to get an Allen key in the middle and use a wrench to turn it counter clockwise and Allen key clockwise Mines not coming loose by just turning it
Yes, sometimes I can get them with an impact, sometimes with a wrench and allen wrench, sometimes you can create force on it by putting a jack on the lower control arm and jacking it up a little and then theres sometimes I have to resort to cutting them off.
I dont remember the specific model. Id have to look later. As mentioned in the video, its 650ft-lbs torque and I know they have some others in the 1200ft-lbs range so Id say mid-torque.
It's a clients car, not mine. I have had the car in for other work since and they havent complained about them. I dont know how the Duralast struts last, no one has ever mentioned anything to me about them. My clients provide their own parts. I personally like Monroe.
The only time you would need to mess with that middle bolt is if you're changing the shock insert only and compressing springs. Don't play with the middle bolt, that's under serious pressure and holds the spring in.
I dont always put it in my videos either. It depends on if I'm in a hurry or have extra time for videoing. A lot of times I end up doing torque off camera. And sometimes I forget to hit the record button lol. Thank you!
I bought some struts and it turns out the strut mounts have 4 holes, the original strut mounts only have three. Is it possible to just replace the mounts without having to buy whole new struts?
Yea, I still run across a few now and then even though Im in Denver. Friday, I had to cut off 2 sway bar links and Saturday had to cut off a tie rod. No job is ever the same and should never be expected to be.
You can’t ask for a video to be better structured than this! Good camera angle, no rambling quick and straight to the point!
Thank you!

Thank you for watching!
@@MegaMilesBen Watching this took 2 minutes. Me executing it 30 mins a side. Well worth the watch. Thank you!
Great video… Watched another video and said to torque top bolts at 80… well, I attempted and broke the bolt! 🤯🤬 shoulda watched this video first!

Im actually truly surprised you snapped at strut nut stud. A lot of people dont even use proper torque and hand tighten them more than 59 ft-lbs easy.

Subscribed. Hope you get monetized soon because this video was perfection. Now I just need to get a impact gun.
Thank you!
Harbor freight has one by Hercules for $99 for the 1/2" impact. I just picked one up. They have a 3/8" impact for $89 too.
Thank you for the video.

Hey, do you have a video for a 2009 Ford Focus? Would be very similar I’m assuming?

What Milwaukee impact gun is that ? Mid torque or high torque?

Do you have to tighten the bolt in the middle on top of the strut?

What brand are the struts?
Duralast
Nice video, many videos skip parts of the job and leave out information like torque-specs.

You'd have to compress the springs to transfer mounts. If not properly done, it's extremely dangerous.
@@MegaMilesBen thanks!
Doing this in the rust belt I had to cut the sway bar links off and grind it out of the hole😂
