  • Work soley with Lightburn to create multiple gears that work together is not as hard as you might think. I struggled for a while. Engineers tend to make things more complicated than they have to be. With a couple of tricks and a few simple rules to follow and you can make your own gear driven designs.

What I always wanted to do was make a coffee table that had a top surface where gears made up most of the top. Then have a painting done on that surface, gears and all. This would be powered by a servo motor that ran clockwise for maybe 24 hours or more, then reverse. The painting would get jumbled, and then come back to its original before reversing again. A lot of precision work, but it would be cool.

I realize that my method goes about gear designing in a less than conventional way. Hence, the title of the video, Redneck Engineering. This works with the gear tooth height of 10mm. I suspect the smaller the tooth height, the more likely the less than precise measurements will be more evident. I'm still learning and perfecting. But my video still is sharing what I learn/figure out, has it happens.

When you say could be worse. Just be glad this didn’t happen a couple of weeks ago when you weren’t feeling well. Sun is shining, and today is good. I live in Northwest Indiana. We just had wind and rain, but not far north of us wasn’t so fortunate.

In my travels, I left a campground just before a derecho went through and rolled many RV's like mine.

Well, I lasted until 2.00am last night Steve UK time difference. Just watched the final part of the video today. Great video, although a bit advanced for me, I did thoroughly enjoy it. Man you don't have love a challenge. Great job 👏 👏

Well, at least your floors are clean 😊. And your clothes are pre-soaked. Hope the rest of your week is better.

LaserMatic is coming out with a 24x15 10,20 and 30 watt in one.

Yup. I've got my pre-order in on the first batch.

Hopefully someone hasn’t suggested this already.
Once you have made your spacing tool (the triangle).
Once in the correct position. Measure the space between the 2 angles where they come in contact with the original circle you started with.
Take that measurement times the number of teeth for any gear.
Would that give you the circumference of a circle for your next gear.
So when you create an array for a gear, all the teeth should be at the correct position.
I think this would get you in the ballpark.

I think it would be close, but not exact. That measurement is a straight line. I think that would prevent getting an accurate circumference. But I do plan on giving it a try. I've also got to learn about gear ratios.

I thought about that. What if you added nodes at the 2 points and then measured the arc instead of the flat points. That would give you a little more accurate measurement.

@@Drirot The arc is changes from gear to gear depending on the diameter of the gear. The arc is not consistent. The straight line is.

Didn’t think of that. The arc would change with the circumference of the circle. Hmmm, more math required. I hated all Math in school. My 50 years of woodworking has proven, I should have paid more attention to it. Ha, Ha.
It is definitely an intriguing subject/project.
