Great video! I had listened to the audio book by Albert Ellis how to control anxiety but I had a hard time thinking about the process. Seeing the visual of the abc method helps. There is so much truth within REBT on psychological/emotional problems (not major mental illnesses). However - what is simply not acknowledged is that as a species - most of us - have deep fundamental needs - especially around attachment and emotional relationships. I think that yes REBT to explain a persons distress ----but then ACT methods to handle and manage the feelings - which depending upon how much you value the threat or loss, the more intense they are......Steven Haye's Relationship Frame Theory - you just cannot use thoughts to change feelings in any way as much as we estimate.......and that is quite a bugger.

Who determines healthy and unhealthy. You, the therapist, society, religion, drs, insurance companies? Why the contradiction in mental health care approaches? What is right and who. Determines it?
You do. Healthy emotions acknowledge reality as you infer it to be and motivate you to respond to it according to your value system. Healthy emotions motivate you to do something that helps you get what you want. Unhealthy emotions also acknowledge reality and motivate you to respond to it in self-defeating ways. What a third party deems as unhealthy is irrelevant.

REBT looks at attitudes one holds towards events (past, present, future) and our attitudes towards our inner experience (i.e., our attitudes towards feeling depressed, anxious, or thinking a strange thought). The Adversity is usually an inference about what we think is going on outside of ourselves or within ourselves. Your question is a good one and I have attempted to answer it but this unfortunately is not a good place for an extensive answer. Every Saturday at 9 AM Eastern I do a demonstration for 40 minutes of REBT with a volunteer. Then I take any and all questions. You might want to attend and ask questions. Yes we can, it took my anxiety and anger. OCD has no more grip when i think rational. Yes healthy negative feelings but anxiety and depression are not
