Hey, man! love the video. Funny this came up because I literally have an A7iii and A7siii and i've been considering trading them both for A7IV. What is the true loss with video from the A7siii to the A7IV? I also, love shooting pictures and miss being a totally hybrid boy with my A7iii. Thank you!

Thank you! The A7iv is absolutely amazing! No doubt it'll spark some creativity with it. I took the Blackmagic Design Free Course to begin with blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/training and then I paid for a few months of lowepost to learn from the industry pros! The free training has a lot of good info and it does look daunting to begin with but it's actually so easy to follow!
The style of this video is awesome man. If you made a video about how you shoot with your A7 IV and the color grading process that would be super helpful to watch.
Great great great vid, covered everything super concisely and didn't drag on with fluff like most reviews. I've loved seeing your A7IV content and overall workflow videos, super informative. I wanted to ask and see if you would maybe do a video covering what (in your opinion) the best/most efficient setting layout for the A7IV is for your line of work. I got the camera not too long ago and it seems daunting to try and map out what options should go where, I feel like it would end up slowing down work flow instead of helping it. Much love again for all the vids, love your content!
Thanks, Patrick! I try to cut all the fluff after the initial cut.. I hated watching videos and it has 8 mins of fluff and 2 mins of actual content so I decided to make my own lol. Yeah, I have one on the works already for the A7IV settings video! Keep an eye when it's out :)
@@VictorLaforteza An absolute legend, you are literally someone who gets it haha. A man for the people! I'm super psyched to see what you have in store! :-)
I'm a creator in Taiwan too:) and I'm about to buy this, ugh you've convinced me. Thanks for the thorough review! As a vlog creator if you could just pick one lens to go with the A7IV which would it be?
I'd say the Sony 20mm 1.8 would be the best! I personally love prime lenses and it's perfect for everyday videos. If you do need longer focal lengths, Sony 16-35 f4 PZ is another great choice. The other zoom lenses are big and cumbersome to take with every single day so I usually opt out with lightweight lens. ALSO, this camera gets uncomfortably warm kinda (not that it would overheat). Summer hasn't peaked in Toronto yet but I'd say it'll be like holding a heat pad in Taiwan summers lol shouldn't have issues though if you're holding it with a vlogging tripod
Just used the A7IV for the first time for a music video shoot and it was amazing! It didn’t overheat on me, granted the shoot wasn’t outdoors, we were in a hot room in a warehouse with no AC. But I think the big reason it didn’t overheat was because I used a dummy battery and attached it to a big V-mount battery. So I think that displaced most of the heat to the battery. But again I haven’t shot outdoors, so time will tell.
I’ve been shooting with it whole summer outdoors! No overheating 🙌🏽 that was the only time when I took it on a farm shoot for the whooooole day. Great camera 📸
I love my A7IV. I have a day job but about a third of my income comes from work I do with my camera and honestly I RARELY need to rent anything bigger and badder. There's obviously work where you need things like SDI and timecode but I rarely ever do anything like that. The A7IV does everything I need for some pretty big shoots. I film political commercials and do portrait shoots and I really don't need anything else.
I’ll be heading to Malta and the Amalfi Coast in a couple months and can’t decide whether or not to take the A7IV or FX3. This video almost seals the deal for the IV.
Hi ! I already owe a A7 IV, mostly for photography and yes, this camera is a masterpiece ! For everyday use or professional work. I've really enjoyed your video, simple & efficient. It give me wings to go out and shoot some video !
I am looking for my first FF camera. I am liking this one and I can afford it. Thank God. It would also be my first Sony camera EVER and I heard a bunch of stuff about the menu being difficult to understand. I also heard this was a new menu. I dont know what slog 3 means....
Im more into video so struggling with the 4K 60fps crop factor. I preordered the 24/70 GMII but im seriously concidering to trade my A7IV in for the A7SIII so i dont have to worry about that crop factor. The A7IV has great customizable features but i don't know if i will use it in my workflow. That 60fps and 120fps 4K you can play with your video's so much more specially with slo mo effects. But that friggin 1400€ more expensive ! Urrgh...
I think if you really really need the slow mo, go for a7siii. Most of the time, 4k is overkill. I don’t even export 4k for my clients unless they request it. If it’s gonna bug you this early, I suggest get the a7siii it’s a beast!
I really wanted a good camera Im working with a 600d and yesterday I was looking at fx3 wich looked delightful I wanna get into music videos and get really good face scenes but fx3 is a little too over budget and this one is also expensive but 1000 euros cheaper and it looks very good too I love photography as well do you think that this camera will give me great video quality with controlled lighting?
Hi Victor! First off, brilliant video. Just subscribed. I currently own the A7SIII and the A7III as a video/photo setup. I have a 35 and a 85 prime. Going to be switching to more of a documentary/vlog/photography role after the summer. Would you recommend keeping both cameras and buying a 20mm for vlogs, selling it all and switching to the A7IV as a hybrid with a 16-35 and a 24-70, or something else? Thanks for your feedback!
Thanks Jason! Welcome to the channel! As for the gear, I really do like the a7iv but there’s always a risk of overheating in long shooting days. If you have time in between shots to have the camera cool down from consistently shooting I would definitely take the a7iv and the two lenses 16-35 and 24-70 On the other hand, the a7siii is a much more reliable video cam and having two cameras come with a peace of mind that if one fails, you have a back up. Though in my experience, I’ve never had a Sony fail on me just some overheating issues on some long days. I think overall all three cameras are good! But lens choice should easily be the zoom lenses especially for doc/photography work. Primes are great for controlled shoots or if you easily have time to switch lenses. I know this isn’t the most direct answer but I hope it helps!
thank you for the great video! I'm recently learning color grading too. How did you get to be a certified colorists ? And how/where to get a job as a junior colorist? thank you
Amazing! It’s a great way to improve video quality 👌🏽 I got certified from black magic, I went through a local course that offered it. I got jobs as a colorist from my connections :)
Hi Alan! I always recommend Blackmagic's training. www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/training Davinci resolve is one of the best color grading platforms out there!
Great review and video! I have been shooting photos with my a7ii for a very long time and I am looking to make the leap to the a7iv for both photo and video. I have some questions that I am hoping you can answer. 1.That Continental commercial looks amazing! I did notice at 0:59 of the video the girls in the shot look to be a little fragmented and not sharp when you were panning. Do you know why that is or what its called? Perhaps its due to the light coming behind them? 2. Can you recommend the courses you took to become a better colourist?. I guess even before that, can you recommend some course to start out in video? My goal is be really good at interviews and showcase people and their personalities. thank you very much!
Thank you! Definitely a good upgrade if you do! 1.) Maybe fragmented because of TH-cam compression, but if you’re talking about the light around them it could be the bloom with motion blur since the camera was moving 2.) I loved the free training from black magic. It’s on their website! That’s how I got started. Overall it’ll cover everything you need! About a few hours in training. After that I did lowepost and saw how pros who coloured Hollywood movies did their work. This was paid I think 79 per month
Client work - a7siii / fx3 all the way! Personal and social media, a7iv best bang for buck! The overheating is a risk I wouldn’t take on a shoot if I don’t have a back up cam!
Thanks! Glad to see it’s reaching Korea!! Love visiting there. As for the two cameras, A7C2 has AI autofocus and the a7iv has more physical buttons. Image quality and sensor are the same!
Wow…. Your shots, compositions, and coloring are 🙌🏽💯💯💯🙌🏽 My client work has gone up and personal projects have gone down… now inspired to do more of my own work. New sub here. Cheers! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Really enjoyed this video. I own two for my video projects (lot's of 2 camera interviews). Do you find a difference in the codecs in terms of the "image" you get?
Smashed! I’m a7siii owner and ex Nikon fanboy. After watching this I think I’m gonna sell my last Nikon to get the A7iv to match the profile color of the older sister . 😎
Absolutely beautiful colours and beautiful films. I a currently saving 150 uk pounds a month to purchase the Sony A74. I am also saving up for the Panasonic S5
What about overheating? I want something that can film events with long takes, particularly weddings. I have heard conflicting reports about the a7 IV. Someone might say, "Get a camcorder for that," but I don't like the aesthetics coming from camcorders. I don't have the budget to buy both. I'm just thinking of getting started shooting weddings as a side gig. I have some Micro Four Thirds gear. However, my Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II has a 30-minute recording limit, and my Lumix G85 can't autofocus worth a damn. I definitely don't want to give up my Micro Four Thirds gear, but it doesn't seem like I have a true A camera.
There's a batch that is overheating and I think the newer batches now are good. It's a good workhorse a few wedding filmmakers I know use it. I'd always suggest going with the sony fx30 or fx3 if you have the budget or even the a7siii is great for long takes.
I have a A7s3 and the autofocus and ease of use is great but coming from Blackmagic there is just something I dont quiet like about the look of the footage. Cant put my finger on it. Maybe its too clean and digital and not filmic, dont really know. But its certainly easy to film with as I dont need to focus. Any way im also picking up a sigma FP so will play with that for now.
Yeah, I definitely have noticed that right off the bat lol hence why I try to make my a7siii and a7iv as filmic and vintage as best as I can. I've heard that they've improved the FP a lot since release... tempting.
@@VictorLaforteza mine arrived 10min ago lol. its does great stills too so im thinking I could go with this and keep my a7r4 and maybe sell the a7s3. But the auto focus and ibis is super handy. Tough choices haha.
I really enjoyed this. I'm in the market for a camera upgrade right now. I've been using an a7rii for a long time for photos and sometimes video but typically I'll bring my BMPCC 4k for videography work. I'd really prefer to be able to just bring one all around great camera and I really loved your real world user experience in this.
Thank you, Eli! Glad you enjoyed it! A few things to consider, the camera heats up a bit due to downsampling 7k footage to 4k. If you don’t do long recordings, it won’t be much of an issue but as a hybrid camera it’s one of the best bang for your buck
@@VictorLaforteza Do you know if I'd still see overheating issues with 1080p footage? I'm not sure if the camera's still oversampling that footage but I shoot some shows and it's nice to have a camera locked off recording on sticks during concerts.
@@TheEli008 You should be okay! The 1080 requires a lot less processing power :) I've shot long talking head videos on 4k HS 10 bit 422 for about 2 hours and the camera was warm but it didnt really overheat!
Nice video! Looking forward to learn more about colorgrading. Do you have any classes reccommandation for me? I've been doing videos for a couple years now but I really want to improve my colorgrading lately. Thanks!
I highly suggest going through the blackmagic free training on their website :) www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/training if you've already done that, lowepost has awesome masterclasses from industry pros from famous hollywood movies. It's $79 a month but it's worth it!!
great video. I mainly shoot with gh5, and I love the camera. I also own a7iii for stills. Been looking into a7iv for a while.. I had a chance to edit the the s log footage from a7siii, and i couldn't work without proxys. Do you need to make proxys for a7iv as well ? 4K 10 bit from GH5 works like a butter without proxys, and I love it.
Depends on your editing machine, I have the m1 pro MacBook and shoot with h.265 compressed footage and it’s smooth to edit! Before that I had a 2018 gaming laptop and used the all intra codec (XAVC-SI) and that one was smooth to edit as well! No proxies needed
This video was insanely helpful as I am currently trying to decide on what camera to go for next coming from an A6500. I was wondering what your experience has been like with the rolling shutter? That's essentially my only concern between this and an A7SIII/FX3. Thank you.
I would say it's quite okay as long as you aren't doing any fast paced shoots. Never bothered me on my shoots but then again I don't do action stuff haha! I would check out Jacques' a7iv fitness commercial. He's done it quite well and might give you more info on the rolling shutter :)
very beautyful review, your colors look awsome almost arri like in some sceens, the beach sceen for example the highlight roll off and overall colors extremly nice , i wonder do you use pro mist filters, a lot of vintage lenses or how does this soft look come together? This review just gave you a sub lol ;)
Thank you! I loved grading each footage of this review!! I have a pro mist 1/8 on most of the shots and add a few more softening effects on DaVinci resolve! Maybe I can do a grading video? 🤔
@@VictorLaforteza haha yes looks like you had fun just looked up your skintone video.. and yes please do.. like a how to achieve a filmic look nice highlight roll off and a color grad in general video. well if you want to haha
A7IV wins by a very small margin. I think it’s due to slight edge on low light performance. Almost the same image quality especially with the right lighting & exposure
@Victor Laforteza Cool. Great videos, brother; and I love your color grading, too. I'm about to purchase my first camera; I make music and write stories. I wanna start making my own videoclips, get into filmmaking, and take pictures for my album covers, promo, etc. Should I get the A7iv, then? Or there's a chance the FX30 could fit my needs better?
@@BanderaFilmsAndMusic I think the FX30 is gonna do great with photos as well as you won't necessarily need the photo heavy features from the A7IV. I personally like the A7IV as a hybrid camera and I like that it has the photo features it has whenever I do need it. If you're a more video centric guy, the FX30 is a no brainer and it's cheaper too! but if you foresee yourself using the photo features, the a7iv is very capable!
i want to know where did you exactly learn color grading and improve it ? like can you provide sources please cause i have a canon r7 that shoots 10 bit 422 but still not good at color grading the footages so please i would love to learn from where you've learned and thanks for te beautiful relaxing content man well done 1
I was mostly using the sony 24mm, 35mm and 85mm 1.4 but I wouldn't say these are the reason why it looks good. Lenses play a big factor into the images but there's a lot more in play
Really nice colour grade man! I'm just curious when you were using the A7IV in the sun, were you powering it with dummy battery and recording externally? or were you recording internally and have a battery in it? And how hot was it that day?
@@VictorLaforteza I suppose in the country I live in, I would have to record externally and use dummy batteries ha. Or the overheating is going to happen way sooner
The image stabilization, canons have that weird wobble effect and seem like Sony doesn’t have that issue but I’m still keeping my canon rp w/ 16mm for vlogs ..👍🏿

I took the Blackmagic Design Free Course to begin with blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/training and then I paid for a few months of lowepost to learn from the industry pros! The free training has a lot of good info and it does look daunting to begin with but it's actually so easy to follow!
I love the practical approach for this review, awesome work man
Thank you! I really wanted to showcase how the camera performs rather than plaster my face talking about it lol!
Perfect Review loved the vibes and pacing. Simple and to the point conclusion as well :)
The style of this video is awesome man. If you made a video about how you shoot with your A7 IV and the color grading process that would be super helpful to watch.
Thank you! The colour grading video is out already :) how to shoot is coming soon!
@@VictorLaforteza awesome man I’ll be sure to check it out
Great great great vid, covered everything super concisely and didn't drag on with fluff like most reviews.
Summer hasn't peaked in Toronto yet but I'd say it'll be like holding a heat pad in Taiwan summers lol shouldn't have issues though if you're holding it with a vlogging tripod
this is the type of footage that makes me want to buy this camera, i love your style bro keep it up.
From your mouth to gods ears. This camera is amazing and I love shooting with it and editing the files. Nice video!
Thank you Brian! I love love shooting with it as well!
Great vid and lovely work bro, the fashion film in particular looks legot
I’ll be heading to Malta and the Amalfi Coast in a couple months and can’t decide whether or not to take the A7IV or FX3. This video almost seals the deal for the IV.
it's honestly a great hybrid!! great for travels. Enjoy Malta and Amalfi Coast!!!
Bro you did not just go off on this video and make a masterpiece. Super solid video
I appreciate that!
Your coloring work is so good!
The last minute of this video was really something I needed to hear 🙏🏼

Welcome to the channel! Glad you enjoyed the review 🙌🏽
I have the A7IV as a B cam and I use the A7SIII for work, your footage looks great btw. Where did you apply for a color grade certificate?💥
just...wow... such beautiful footage. Thanks for sharing!
Hi ! I already owe a A7 IV, mostly for photography and yes, this camera is a masterpiece ! For everyday use or professional work. I've really enjoyed your video, simple & efficient.
It give me wings to go out and shoot some video !
Glad to hear the video inspired you to go out and shoot!! The best thing ever!
Great review. Very honest & insightful
I am looking for my first FF camera. I am liking this one and I can afford it. Thank God. It would also be my first Sony camera EVER and I heard a bunch of stuff about the menu being difficult to understand. I also heard this was a new menu. I dont know what slog 3 means....
Hi Víctor, What are your favourite lenses for your Sony A7IV? Cheers!
I am going to use the Super 35mm mode alot with Youngnou Nikon F mount lenses
How the hell does this video only has 440 views? It's superb, great job!
Hahaha thank you! It’s at 1000 now!!! 😍
Does the rolling shutter bother you at all?
@@VictorLaforteza what do you usually export 1440p?
@@_AbuIlyas always 1080 unless the client requires 4k
Glad you touched on your grading. This is some of theeeee best in see on here . Which courses did u take ? I really want to get on it asap
I took the black magic free training on their website! Really good foundation! Then I paid for lowepost for masterclasses from Hollywood pros.
I’m obsessed with your grades! I knew I wanted this before but this video just confirmed it
Thank you!! Definitely a fun camera to shoot and edit the footage!!
I really wanted a good camera Im working with a 600d and yesterday I was looking at fx3 wich looked delightful I wanna get into music videos and get really good face scenes but fx3 is a little too over budget and this one is also expensive but 1000 euros cheaper and it looks very good too I love photography as well do you think that this camera will give me great video quality with controlled lighting?
most cameras nowadays will be great with controlled lighting! This definitely will! Great all around camera for photo and video
@@VictorLaforteza thanks a lot can’t wait to do some short films and interviews etc I forget we still talking abt a 2800€ camera lmao 😅
Your work is incredible!
Thank you, fellow Victor! Appreciate it 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Really like the colors in this video. Looks very professional 💪
Thank you 🙌
Beautiful shots there! Keep creating!
Thanks a lot!
If you have time in between shots to have the camera cool down from consistently shooting I would definitely take the a7iv and the two lenses 16-35 and 24-70
On the other hand, the a7siii is a much more reliable video cam and having two cameras come with a peace of mind that if one fails, you have a back up.
Solid review and great video man!
Glad you liked it!
thank you for the great video!
Love your work and coloring style!
Thank you! 🙌🏽
Awesome review :) What courses would you recommend for color grading?
Hi Alan! I always recommend Blackmagic's training. www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/training Davinci resolve is one of the best color grading platforms out there!

Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed it! :)
Amazing vid man. How do you achieve this level of softness especially on skin tones? Did you use a promist or use another method in post?
Both :) 1/8 or 1/4 filter is usually good for me but I add glow / retouching on skin especially on beauty shots.
Really enjoyed this review. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙌🏽
Nicely done! 👌
Sweet video Dude! best one I've seen on this camera! ;)
Thank you!!! it's definitely a great hybrid cam!

1.) Maybe fragmented because of TH-cam compression, but if you’re talking about the light around them it could be the bloom with motion blur since the camera was moving
2.) I loved the free training from black magic. It’s on their website! That’s how I got started. Overall it’ll cover everything you need! About a few hours in training. After that I did lowepost and saw how pros who coloured Hollywood movies did their work. This was paid I think 79 per month

Great video man! Tossing up between the A7iv A7siii and even the FX3. All such great options
Client work - a7siii / fx3 all the way! Personal and social media, a7iv best bang for buck! The overheating is a risk I wouldn’t take on a shoot if I don’t have a back up cam!
Considering the price difference, I’d say most people would be super happy with the A7IV. That font tho! Which is it?
Definitely! It's a crazy good value for what it is. The font is called NT wagner :)
@@VictorLaforteza thanks!
Great video! Greetings from Korea. Are there any substantial differences between A7IV and A7C2?
Thanks! Glad to see it’s reaching Korea!! Love visiting there. As for the two cameras, A7C2 has AI autofocus and the a7iv has more physical buttons. Image quality and sensor are the same!

The AF is amazing!! really great for small productions
Really enjoyed this video. I own two for my video projects (lot's of 2 camera interviews). Do you find a difference in the codecs in terms of the "image" you get?
Not by much tbh! You get incremental for the S-I but you won’t see much difference unless you pixel peep!
Forget about cameras the grading in this shots are amazing 👏
hahahah thank you!!!
Smashed! I’m a7siii owner and ex Nikon fanboy. After watching this I think I’m gonna sell my last Nikon to get the A7iv to match the profile color of the older sister . 😎

24mm f1.4 vs 20mm f1.8?
24mm if you don’t have 35 or wider lenses. It’s a great middle ground
Absolutely beautiful colours and beautiful films. I a currently saving 150 uk pounds a month to purchase the Sony A74. I am also saving up for the Panasonic S5
Both are really good cameras!!!
I just want an a7iv for fun. (currently using C500II but I sometimes miss taking random videos outside production days)
Yeah, it's definitely something to carry around easily for fun!

Hi victor, nice review, I want to ask you what kind of font did you use in the video? is very cool
NT Wagner :)
Amazing thank you so much!
great video.
No proxies needed
fantastic footage! what lens did you use for 3:35 & 3:41 shots?
Sony 24mm 1.4 :)

Cinematic image talk: would you choose the a7iv or the fx30? not about price or sensors. which one do you like better?
A7IV wins by a very small margin. I think it’s due to slight edge on low light performance. Almost the same image quality especially with the right lighting & exposure
@Victor Laforteza Do you think this year they'll come up with something to fill up the 2800 dollar model gap? Something like a FX 15?
@@BanderaFilmsAndMusic hmmmm potentially... depends on the competition as well. I'm thinking they will have an A7Cii or an FX6ii

What lens are you using? Or can you use any lens and it’ll still look that good?

@@VictorLaforteza thanks! Think the lens i use for my black magic 4k would work?

I'm just curious when you were using the A7IV in the sun, were you powering it with dummy battery and recording externally? or were you recording internally and have a battery in it?
