      It was good as a low level nuclear strike aircraft, but at higher altitudes, other aircraft were better.

    Sure as hell gonna miss these planes. One of, if not the best recent aircraft at low alt levels.
    They look mean, sound mean and man can the RAF pilots handle those things well.

      One of the pilots on 617Sqn once did 'short' landing at Lossiemouth ....Guy Riley was his name. He barely missed the first cut off on the short runway at Lossie, the 2nd cut off meant he had to go the whole length at taxi speed.
      He slammed the jet down and circled back... then shut down and went for beers.
      The wings shook like a shitting dog as he braked. His brakes didn't catch fire!

      I was at my nans house in chatham , kent, and i heard this noise like u wouldnt believe come out of nowhere and shit my little pants.
      Flew outside thinking roger ramjet had gone past.
      All of a sudden these 2 tornados came bk over (proper low), and smashed the arse out of every car or house that had alarms on them at the time.
      Unbelievable.

    What a sound. Fond childhood memories of going to the air show every year. Like everyone else I was always there to see the red arrows but the tornado was deffo a big draw as well. Because they didn’t land/take off from the airport but flew from base there was nothing like the excitement knowing she was coming, keeping an eye , watching for her coming up the ards peninsula . But always managed to catch you off guard coming in low and fast and hearing the crack of the sound barrier being.......... proud to be British 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 GSTQ

    • @timothybaxter7392
      @timothybaxter7392 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It feeds into the Air Cooled Fuel Cooler... The air going into there is used to cool the fuel.... which was used to cool the oil via the Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler. The worst issue Tornado ever had was its fuel getting too hot whilst still on the ground. When it got too hot on the ground the fuel cells - aka large rubber bags- started to delaminate. So if the fuel's too hot before it took off to use the ram air to cool the fuel we were forced to do an 'engine running refuel' to swap out the hot fuel for slightly cooler fuel and hope that they could take off before the bags delaminated. (that happened many times in Price Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia) as the taxi way was too long if the Air Traffic Control didn't give speedy clearance.

    I have a question, maybe someone who finds this comment in the next years and knows what they're talking about can answer it. I don't know to much about jets so please excuse my unknowingnes. Since the Tornado has its "foldable" wings, how do the fuel tanks etc. that are mounted to them stay "straight" when the wings fold? Is there an extra mechanism in the wing/mounts that rotates them every time?

    As the curtain falls on one of Britain's most incredible multi role aircraft since the spitfire which of course is the infamous tornado I wonder whether the UK government will ensure the funding is available to ensure the RAF can maintain and continue to keep one of these legends airworthy and on the airshow circuit. We as a nation are robbed of our past these days with cost cutting being justified to make this plane and other historic planes before it vanish from our skies. Even our Cold War legend the Vulcan which kept us safe throughout the Cold War had to be publicly funded which was a disgrace and more worryingly an embarrassment. Our MP's like Boris the worthless use "no budget available" as an excuse to rob our future generations of seeing our heritage. Men have died in this aircraft protecting us and are they remembered properly? No. It embarrasses me to be British it really does.
