This is the kind of cosmic storylines i want! Not gods or deities, but smaller scale, yet still impactful. Ve'Nari is a hella cool character, and her exploits are fun. Just don't ruin her blizz. Leave breadcrumbs, not whole loafs.
I feel like we either just helped unleash a really BAD person, or somehow she is going to come back and save all of our asses. It's a big toss up for me.
They're just reimagined ethereals though, i wish ethereals were given this opportunity instead of reinventing, blizzard constantly reinvents instead of working with the awesome stuff they already had. Im waiting to see how they reinvent dragons in dragonflight...
@@ChrisTehKiller169 yeah they share the design with ethereals. also i like ethereals, so win win for me! All that aside, brokers have sense to be different and similar to ethereals - ethereals are dealers of supernatural in fantastical, but otherwise mundane world. Breokers are dealers of supernatural in a supernatural world and across realities. They all fulfill the same role, which makes sense to exist, which is the one of a dealer, which you should expect in any universe. However, sadly, ethereals are too much tied to their own thing, and they are similar enough to ethereals so they can fulfill a similar role in the storyline but also different enough to have less ongoing issues.
"Chess Pieces" Bellular? Pretty sure Blizzard has been moving their "checker pieces". I'd say the WoW lore stopped having "chess pieces" when Metzen left. My theory anyway.
Not necessarily. They got rid of some "bad actors" internally and have been cleaning up the mess so they could do it how they wanted. This is good chance for them to prove that they can do things right and the Ve'nari story is a new thing with very little ties to the past. and they've left it wide open to interpretation.
WOW that was a nice video. Sorta got the vibe of a bonfire story late at night during a camping trip somewhere in the deep woods... And the eternal travelers bit was spooky, which enhanced the feeling. Cheers for the awesome video! :)
The stories / concepts are great. How its executed? Thats the the issue. Especially with the concept of death and the afterlife. It can easily dismantle oh whole lot of lore, Which shadowlands did just that.
I was just thinking the about the Eternal Travelers the other day and their absence in the SL, I'm glad you pointed out the connection between Ve'nari and them from the letter she sent because I completely missed that.
The brokers were definitely one of the best type of characters in Shadowlands by a long shot. A lot of mystery, and it's breadcrumbs to figure out what their true plans are. Ve'nari is a perfect example of a character that was done right this expansion - unlike some of the other characters.
With the existence of multiple Zereths each for another element of the cosmic order, it would be cool if the Eternal Travelers were related our next cosmic villain in a couple expansions, trying to create a new Zereth from scratch. A Zereth in the name of the element that we don't yet know, but is associated with what the Jailer warned us about.
I think she managed to find a way to achieve a potential of creation of tremendous power, like some hidden element that is the true purpose of the maw, recicle souls Into raw creation material like a "copper + tin" to make a different kind of soul or something...
Is it possible the Ven’ari is Xal’atath that found a way to bring Ethereal’s into the realms of death? Which explains why the Brokers seem identical to the Ethereals in many ways? And why they’re new arrivals to Oribos?
They never give details anymore. They described the blood of a demon and exactly what fel energy feels like back in the day, but stygia is just "what happens when a soul is shredded" Ok what does it feel like? Look like? How do people feel about it? New Blizzard just invents new stuff every 30 minutes and gives it a basic description with no consequence... What the hell do you mean "cosmic damage" what does that even mean?! Actually explain something please, im begging you.
and how does domination magic fit in with the original/regular schools of magic. and how does death magic differ from fel magic. they both deal with destruction of the soul. and it sounds like cosmic energy would be all the schools combined. how is that different from chaos magic. i wish they would expound on the foundations of the magic system.
Well... to me the brokers are another unnecessary thing they added on top something very similar already existing in the lore. The Ethereals could have filled the very same role as the brokers and nobody would have missed anything. So to me they are part of this whole "add another top-layer" fiasco that also brought us the whole "mechanization" of the cosmos. Then there is Ve'nari who is like phantom of "what Shadowlands should have been" and "what they are" - programmed with a whole set of gadgets and quests for a game system, that was never fully released. They simply cut most of the content out this NPC was providing something to. And even then: They did this before with the timeless isle and this bronze dragon dude. Luckily for him, his plot was rather "planned" to be told in a book. A plot, if you got the whole picture, works out perfectly - beautiful. But most people didn't get the whole picture, didn't know why we ended up in WoD. Now they do a retake with Ve'nari and it's... well - I have no clue what you have to do ingame to get the full plot (I for sure did not farm her stuff when I played after release), but it looks like even more shattered yet more executed ingame. Should I be excited when she has her great come-back in the future, thinking "ah yeah - if I did these useless and tedious daily quests then, I would have seen this coming"? Of course not. They did a good job in BFA - a lot of optional content for "lore hunters" (see this eye, that was never removed on my forehead?) but the stuff in shadowlands... so much craze and meta-problems that I wished it would just be forgotten.
There is also another potential thing... Venari... Created a new body. A physical body. That isnt an automated being like she was. Since those brokers are basicly souls in a suit of mechanical armor. Now she is just like Xalathat.. Free to go wherever. So one day. We will probably see them again.. Together, doing something.
I don't think this theory is correct. The brokers and the wind traders are arcane beings. They are part of the arcane tree. They chose these bodies for themselves. After losing to the burning legion, their current existence is the choice they made for themselves as an ideal form. I don't know Ve'Nari's reasoning for doing what she has done, but I don't believe a new body was the goal. A new body is finite and I don't believe their current body has a time limit. I could totally be wrong. I am making an assumption.
@@semi6544 Who knows. But do we actualy know that these Brokers are the EXACT same sort of being as the Ethereal ones? The Brokers seem more ... Ancient.. Diferent. Like they are manufactured. Also its not because of the Burning Legion that they have their existence that they do. its because of the Void Lord Dimensius the All Devouring. Which is also funny enough an enemy that we kill in the Netherstorm area.
I want to know how connected the brokers are to Death. If we ever go to the Lifelands or whatever, will they be there? Will a Life version of the brokers be there? How do the brokers interact with the ethereasl? So many questions
It's nice to have an ending on something this expansion. Can anyone tell me what happen with sire denathrius soul? The dreadlord saved him to restore him but that never happend or do i have to read the novel to know what happend with him? Same for the Drust they can invade other dimension but it's never explained how they did that and why they wanted to take over ardenweald?
Xal'atath is up to some shit. The runes on the blade look like it came from torghast. She might be after something in the SL. Those old god jars found in korthia are giving me strange voices in my head. 😱
So ... were the Brokers ever alive or have they always only existed in the Shadowlands? Their storyline is interesting but their entire existence makes no sense (to me).
If you think that they may have once been alive as Ethereals, but we just haven't met any of the Ethereals we've dispatched in the past yet, they can make sense. They have a similar style of clan hierarchy, and have a practically identical acquisitive, devious, manipulative, and secretive nature. The parallels are too obvious to not see tbh.
So have the brokers essentially replaced the ethereals as the mysterious cosmic merchants? Do we have concrete answers to all of their lore? I do like this, I’m just interested in knowing if it’s just coincidence that they’re a bit similar.
