    I got a real negative reaction from one dealer when I said that I would only agree to purchase a particular new Class A after I had it inspected. I told him that I wouldn't buy a house without an inspection and this unit cost more than many new homes. I ended up going elsewhere.

      Good for you Roy! That was a very good decision to go elsewhere. If a seller balks when you mention getting an RV inspected, it's time to go find a different RV for sale.

    We dropped off the new GD Solitude today that you inspected for us. The RV technician was very impressed with the detail of the inspection and the pictures that were taken to show the defects you detailed in the report. All of this will be for warranty work. Thanks Duane!!

    Part of the RV definition generally includes plumbing with a bathroom, a kitchen with cooking, and sleeping facilities. I agree with your number one being a suitable floorplan, most important. (Almost) all RV's seem to have some types of issues, even new ones, be prepared, my last second hand RV still had problems that the original owner wasn't able to fix that were inherent to the manufacture. Try to learn about RV maintenance prior to purchase. There are all types of stories about pronounced windshield leaks, flapping side panels not fastened down properly, etc, even on some of the more expensive class A models. Not a great comment on the RV industry in general. But you do get a warranty with the new ones, even if the dealer isn't able to fix everything.

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are so right about RV owners trying to learn as much as they can about RV maintenance Midnight. Roughly 80% of RV issues can be resolved by the owner if they just have a little knowledge and guidance. And in most cases the manufacturers do stand behind their warranties well, but it may take them an irritatingly long time to get everything done. That's why having a comprehensive punch list for the dealer to work on is a good idea. That way the RV owner can get the bugs worked out as quickly as possible.

    • @midnight4109
      @midnight4109 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RVInspectionAndCare Another related point is to check the reputation of the dealership for service. One reason I have learned about RVs is that I lived in a city where RV people had generally a notoriously bad reputation for service. It's too easy for a service department to sluff things off until after the warranty period.

    Thank you so much for these videos. They are super helpful. It looks like you pretty much do the same inspection like you would a house except you have the added inspection of a vehicle if you are buying one on wheels. Where are you located at? How much should an inspector cost and how do you go about finding a good inspector. I am sure like home inspectors not everyone offers the same quality. Thanks again.

    Steven Heinrich. Duane I like your advice on the motorhomes. I'm thinking about purchasing a used 28A motorhome from Cruise America. Do you have any advice on these high mileage units, they service them & keep them up inside & out. I am going to get an inspection done also, & plan to buy their extended warranty. Do you have any comments that would be helpful on my decision or should I be looking at used motorhomes from a dealership or private party? Thanks for your advice.

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lee. I haven't had a lot of experience with CA motorhomes, but I highly recommend getting a certified RV inspector to look it over first. I would also perform a fluid analysis on all the engine, coolant and transmission fluids just to see what kind of shape the mechanical components are in. I am going to release an ebook and worksheet checklist this week (title - How To Avoid Buying An RV Money Pit) that would be good to use as a personal RV inspection guide before you call in the pro inspector. That way you don't spend a lot of money on multiple inspections. And the ebook explains the fluid analysis process too. It may be helpful for you in your search.

    We bought a class A Jayco precept 31 ft 2014 few months ago , , I just found out that we have soft spots under the slices on the corners. What can you recommend ?

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Marieline. I'm not sure what the "slices" are (maybe you meant slides), but if you are referencing the roof, sidewall, or slideouts, be sure to get that repaired ASAP. If soft spots have formed due to water intrusion, it must be repaired quickly. Time will only make the situation worse. And try to find out why the soft spots have happened and get those leaks fixed. Otherwise, it will only continue to happen.

    • @marielinejuillard9495

      @@RVInspectionAndCarethank you so much for your answers, yes it's the slideouts , it's coming from the rain dripping under the slides .

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just be sure to check all the seams where sealant is applied on the slide. Somewhere there is a gap that is allowing water in. A good qualified RV tech can usually figure it out and get it resolved.

    You mention getting an inspection from a certified RV inspector listed on NRVIA . I see there are multiple Levels of Inspectors, i.e. Level 1 Level 2 etc. what is the difference

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question Mike. Level 1 inspectors have been certified to be able to do a very basic inspection on an RV. For instance, this allows them to verify basic information about an RV for banks, lenders and some warranty companies. The Level 2 certification makes sure that the inspector is capable of a thorough and exhaustive inspection of all of the RV systems for prospective buyers. I always recommend choosing a Level 2 certified inspector when you are considering an RV purchase.

  • @jeandecker4073
    @jeandecker4073 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you need to put a deposit on the unit your interested in before you get the RV inspector in? I would be concerned that the dealer would sell it to someone else before you could make arrangements.

    • @midnight4109
      @midnight4109 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can do a pretty comprehensive inspection yourself paying attention to the things in the video. Many dealerships inspect and repair certain components at the seller's expense. Some will let you take it for a night. At that point you have a good idea of what you're getting into.

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      My experience has been that most reputable dealers are willing to have the RV inspected as part of the sale in order to put the customer's mind at ease about the sale. And if you are willing to pay for an RV inspection that should be a strong indicator that you are serious about buying that RV. There are plenty of RVs for sale to choose from. If a dealer resists having an RV inspection done as part of the sale, It may be time to go find a different seller to buy from.

  • @dboggs7744
    @dboggs7744 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If there's a list of things that need to be done, after it's supposedly completed, do you ask the inspector to come back to verify? Is it a full charge to do this?

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The purpose of the RV inspection is to let you know what the state of the RV is at the time of the inspection. They will provide a full report on each issue that they find, including photos, and make a recommendation about how it should be handled. Armed with that knowledge the buyer can usually verify that the work has been done properly. Of course, if you ask him to revisit the results of his inspection after the repairs have been made, he may choose to do that, but there will most likely be some extra charge for it. It is up to the individual inspector to decide what that charge should be. I hope that helps.
